[Q] - General Questions and Answers

I have been having some issues, as outlined in my last thread that I haven't managed to solve.
Had more issues last night, so decided to unpartition card to see if that fixes it as that seems to be where it started, just wanting to check how to do this safely. Do I use a2sd to move apps and dalvik cache back to phone, back up apps then erase card using phone (will that get rid of partition?), then transfer the back up from before I partitioned back onto the card? Then to be safe go back to the Nandroid of before I partitioned? I will use it like that a few days, check it sorted the issue, then try partitioning again.
If that doesn't work I will reflash ROM.
Could someone please confirm that is how you safely un partition?
Thanks in advance
ETA: Sorry I didnt realise I hadn't put anything in the thread title and now its to late :/ hopefully somebody reads this anyway!

A little help on flashing android screen

Hey guys,
yesterday i flashed my g1 with JF RC33 and alls fine, except by one thing: every time i turned it on, a message pop up telling that android.process.media needed to be close.
Then I did a wipe, but after this i can't turn on my phone again, it stay on the flashing android screen
What should i do?
Thanks!
it seems to be caused by a broken system file or hardware problem. could you try flashing your system again? this update.zip is signed, so something must happened during the copying process.
Simply reflash an update. I recommend you do a Nandroid backup next time. Also, make sure your SD card is in your phone when turning on. For some odd reasons, when my SD card isn't in my phone, it just hangs on the boot image. Very strange. I have Apps to SD and am running on Haykuro 5.0.2H
it looks to be an issue with your sd card, do you have apps to SD enabled or anything else with your phone that might need to access the SD card at boot? if you have apps tp SD then you need to re-push the mountd.conf and the init.rc and redo the links to your /system/sd partition. if not i would make sure that your SD card is not corrupt by formatting it again. as solomenwishing(sp) said next time you should make a nandroid backup of your phone before you mess with anything
Thanks guy.
I flash everything again and it's ok.
Now i don't know how to make the nandroid backup.
Can someone help me?

Well this is a sticky on this forum
okay, i had already read this before, but the only thing that i don't know for sure is this.
"Android G1 phone in recovery mode with busybox installed, including appropriate symlinks to at least tar and md5sum, as well as 'adb shell' support running as root."
My recovery image is from the JF topic "How -to- Root,Hack and flashing...."..the only thing i know is my one has the adbshell support running as root
It's ok to do this?

[Q] Can anyone help? SD card (internal)

So I updated to the leaked Samsung 2.2 Froyo. I am trying to move apps to the sd card and I am getting an error. "Failed to move application. Not enough memory".
I have seen demos/reviews with this function working. I am also making sure I try it with apps that are compatible with the feature.
Anyone have a clue as to whats going on here.
Other than that, I love being a new Android user, ported over from the apple world. Captivate made my 3g look foolish.
Thanks in advance for any help guys.

When installing a program it will pop up, this is Apps2SD, do you want to move. Or you can see it in manage applications, select application > Move to SD is highlighted
You have to be careful with it because that silly media scanner will run and disable you sd functions. Example. You have a program that starts up when your phone starts you will get a FC because the media scanner is running.
Good to have you by the way.
I'm getting the same message, but it was working before.
I flashed a ROM and enabled lag fix. However, when I went back to stock, I forgot to disable the lag fix.
I'm back to the leaked 2.2, but I still can't move apps to the SD card. There is plenty of memory free.
Is there any way around this?
Thanks!

Have you tried doing a master reset to remove the the lag fix or gotten the app from the market app2sd?
I tried a master clear using Odin, but I haven't tried a master reset. How is that done?

If you did a master clear with odin then it is pretty much the same thing
Oh, and when I use the app, I get the same message.

Ok I know a dumb question but do you have enough rom on your SD card? Try the apps2sd app from the market
No worries, I know you have to ask.
My SD card has 12.83GB free.
I did try using the apps2sd, but I get the same message, that there isn't enough memory.
I would say that there is an issue with the leaked rom. I would try a custom rom and see if it happens, if it is still an issue I would copy the stuff off your card and reformat it to see if that is an issue
I actually got the message the first time I tried a custom ROM. When I went back to 2.2 the problem went away, but I hadn't tried the lag fix.
When I tried another customer ROM today, I got the message again, but this time a tried the lag fix.
I forgot to disable it when I went back to stock, then to 2.2.
I did reformat the internal SD card, didn't help. That's why I turned to the forums. I'm all out of ideas.
OMG I am stupid lol. The apps to SD is for moving the APPS to an EXTERNAL sd card not the internal sd
LOL, no worries.
I don't want to waste my time, but would it be worth a try to:
1. Flash back to stock.
2. Install Clockwork recovery
3. Install customer ROM again.
4. Enable lag fix.
5. Disable lag fix.
6. Flash back to stock.
7. Master clear
8. Install 2.2 again?

Only if you have enough room on your external sd (micro sd plugged into the phone)
I don't currently have one installed.
It must be a file system issue. Is there anyway to rebuild the stock file system? Or is that supposed to happen when I flash back to stock?
By the way, thanks for your help on this.

No prob, but here is the deal. This only works for external SD card in 2.2 2.1 didnt have this option at all. So unless you insert an external SD card it is not gonna work.
OK, now I'm the stupid one. I didn't even think of putting my SD card back in! I always take it out when I flash back to stock because the media scanner takes so long.
Anyway, I put it back in, now I can move to SD.
So, my next question is, where does it put it on that SD card? I looked, and I don't see anything other than my music.

To tell the truth I dont remember really, I have not needed to move anything to my external sd in a long time, what are you using to look at your SD card?
Root explorer. It's not really that important, it's mostly just curiosity.

[Q] Do I need to wipe SD card? (GingershedBread)

Hi,
I am very new to this, which is why I couldn't post this in the GingerShedBred forum.
Anyway, it was made explicit that I needed to wipe the sd card. Unfortunately, I thought that when I pressed "wipe" on the bootloader, that that's what it was doing. Looking now, I see that that isn't the case. Yes, as I said, I'm new to this .
Anyway, so far, it is working fine. I flashed the rom, and gapps, and everything is working smoothly (it's only been an hour). What should I do? Should I just leave it? Should I format the SD card, then reflash? If I format it, where will my titanium backup stuff go?
Thank you so much!
Edit: I am using an Eris, and I updated from a Froyo rom.

I'm guessing you hadn't forced anything to SD while on Froyo. Otherwise, you may have had some issues when you came over. From what I understand, there's some sort of incompatibility between the way Froyo stores things on SD vs the way GSB does it.
If it's working as expected, you probably don't need to reformat your SD card.

[Q] Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 (GT-p5113) Internal Storage Issues after flashing custom ROM

So after rooting and flashing the "Clean" ROM v1.1 I had internal storage issues. First the gallery app would not work. It would give me a message "not enough memory" when trying to open it. Also I could not save any downloads, I would get a message that download failed. So, I recovered to the stock ROM provided in the guide (I have a GT-p5113). Recovering to this stock ROM fixed the above issues. However at this time I noticed that my internal storage shrank from the stock 16GB to about 2 GB total (even if i deleted everything my total internal storage would only be 2GB). So it's like my internal memory went from 16GB to 2GB for no reason. See attached screenshot. I'm not sure if that happened after installing the custom "Clean" v1.1 ROM or when I recovered back to the stock ROM. I've since flashed both the "Infected" ROM and the CM9 ROM and with those I still have the reduced storage area and the problems with the gallery app and inability to save downloads.
Anyone have any ideas what happened and how I can get my storage space back?
Same Problem here
Im having the same problem with mine Ive flashed all three of those roms and have no internal storage space left really. the Misc Files in internal storage has jumped to 8.34 GB and an available 2.18 left.
Please someone help us.
P.S. if you figured out how to fix this please post back.
Thanks!
Gallery "not enough memory"
Similar issue. Tried wiping Dalvik but still not working. Installed 3 times wiping data each time. Any ideas?
Same exacts specific problem as kdubbfive.
im not sure Dunkn.Mynes has the same problem. He is losing free space as if something is taking up room .Dunkn, check you r. clockworkmod directory isnt on your internal memory, taking up more room each time you r un a back up.
Just to underline kdubbfive's problem.
have gt-p5113 - same here
installed cleanrom 1.1 - - same here here
total internal memory shrunk from 16gb to 2gb - same here
restored and tried other roms, internal memory remains 2gb
Weird thing is i had the exact same problem putting clean rom on my phone - Motorola atrix
if i dont he of any fixes ill probably try factory restore with kies and the computer image. i only have a chinese stock image that is suppoosed to be the same as USA version. but I'm not convinced of it.
ill post if i get the nerve to try this our find another fix. if anyone has stock image for gtp5113 p please post. good luck.
Thanks for the Info - Hope to find Solution
Glad to hear someone else is having the exact same issue. I've been going crazy trying to find a solution. Please post if you are successful. I'll do the same.

HERE's what worked for me (kind of a complete wipe)
I'm a novice, first time writing instructions, and 2nd time ever posting so let me know if I missed something, and I'll try to get back to you on it.
Make backups as best you can (CWM recovery, Titanium, nandroid)
ALL DATA WILL BE LOST. Haven't tried recovery of data yet. That's the concept behind all the backups above.
Not sure all was neccessary, or what step was key so here is all of it:
Install Kies http://www.samsung.com/us/kies/
Connect tablet and follow any Samsung Instructions exactly
What is says there is updated ROM available, allow it to to install.
On reboot your system will not be rooted, and data will be there (only for the moment), on mine internal storage was still 2GB
Do a factory reset, wipe any cache and all that. Maybe repeat for good luck.
Follow the rooting instructions exactly here including re-downloading files and following all precautions:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1657056
(I noticed the cwm file has a PIT file in it which relates to internal memory partitioning. I suspect this may have been key here.)
Follow instructions all the way to the end.
In the end I had 12GB internal which is normal because I think there are 2 2GB hidden partions there for ROM and maybe swap file, I don't know)
I'm going to make a backup now, then go back to see what I can recover. On second thought, maybe I'll just start fresh. Also, I think I'm done with custom roms. I can deal with the junk Samsung programs for the sake of dependability.
Good luck. I'll check back to see if you have questions.
Thank You!!!
Worked like a charm! Thanks, a million!

[Resolved] Issues updating CM10.0 to 10.1 (T-Mobile GS3)

So I have had CM10 on my phone for probably 8 months now (almost since I got the phone) and have had no issues with the ROM whatsoever.
I got a notification about an updated version of CM10 today and went ahead and downloaded and installed it, but when I finished the update, I had no personal data left on the phone, could not set up accounts to recover the data, could not (and still can't) recover backups through ROM Manager, and cannot recover backups through CWM. I get an error message which I can't remember at the moment and leads to a bricked phone upon reboot until I do a fresh install of CM10.0.
I read after I started having the issues that I wasn't supposed to directly upgrade from the CM Updater with an S3, but it was already too late. Supposedly the issue is something along the lines of an emulated version of my phone's internal storage? If that makes sense. So whenever it's pulling a piece of information it's looking in the spot it should be in, but on a non-physically-existent SD card, essentially. That's what I gathered anyways.
I have a 32gb external SD Card that is also in use with my S3. I have tried moving my ROM Backups to there and recovering from the External SD Card, but the same error message occurred, although ROM Manager was at least able to find the backups after they were moved (I also had to change the setting and request that it prefer to look through an external SD Card).
So I have a usable ROM as far as the software itself, but I no longer can use any accounts or information that is stored with them or any of the same widgets (not a game-breaker) as I was able to previously. Is there a way to fix this? I've never just been completely stuck before >.<

Just to be clear, you're saying to try and flash CM10.0 and then do not update when prompted from the notification? The other part was clear enough lol.
Edit: Tried the above and did not fix the problem, but I didn't use fastboot specifically because I have a Samsung phone.
The error I'm getting is "unable to mount /system" when I try and restore a backup.
Bump. Still haven't figured this out.
Problem solved.
Re-flashed CM10.1; doing full data, cache, and dalvik wipes before and after the flash; and the problem was corrected.
