Is external touch screen control possible? - General Questions and Answers

Hello all, I've been wondering lately if it's possible for an Android phone to be plugged into an external touch screen and be completely controlled via the external touchscreen?
By possible, I actually mean easily done via some basic or maybe not so basic code.
I know some Android devices offer mirroring via mini hdmi, but you usually have to either control using a remote or the phone. I'd rather have it connect through the micro-usb port, lay the phone somewhere else, and fully control the phone through the external touch screen.
I tried to search, but wasn't sure what to use for the search and all I found was ways to remotely control you pc using your device.

no i dont think so....a web application is there for controlling your phone via wifi with the help of router..
Airdroid try it..

Thanks for the reply. I'll give Airdroid a try, but I was looking for a more direct option. I'm thinking there has to be a way since the webtops/laptop docks seem to work well, but again those use mouses/keyboards for control.

I am hot on this idea too
I have a lilliput 4 wire resistive screen that i want to use a carputer.
I have seen one solution that is stuck in "coming soon" that requires some manual intervention called customgadz...google it. It's expensive.
I have googled endlessly to try and find a way to input the Liliput directly into the Atrix HD dock as a USB input but the touch screen needs to be calibrated.
So i've resorted to emailing liliput to see what they say.

phone as usb monitor?

is there any way to use the phone as a side monitor for my PC?
I'd like to keep my IMs on it and respond using the phone's keyboard, or also control my music via touch screen
At the moment, no. However, it may not be out of reach. Give it time and somebody may try making it possible.
Still, all of the things you want to do can be done, just not the way you want to do them. There are IM clients for the phone. As for controlling your music, I've seen a few apps that can do so remotely.

Looking for an app..

I frequently use the hdmi adapter cable to plug my s3 in to an external screen for videos and msg throughout the day.
my question is: is there an app that turns the screen into a laptop style touch/gesture pad? i use a bluetooth keyboard with it all the time, and if i could just use the screen as a touchpad, it'd save me from needing to purchase a bluetooth mouse.
i have searched google and this site, but i believe i may be using the incorrect search terms. i cannot be the first person to think of this! thanks in advance!

For videos and messaging, I just skip the screen mirroring and use Airdroid. It puts all the info in a desktop view and eliminates the need to even have the phone nearby.
Sent from my sexy phone using XDA Premium
Daemon, I appreciate your input, but that's not what I want. I do not have or want the screen that I connect the s3 to connected to another computer. I simply wish to use the touchscreen on the s3 as if it were a laptop style touchpad for itself, so I do not need a bluetooth mouse.
On a similar note, I am looking for an app, that would allow me to change the resolution of the operating system, or at least certain apps (like browser, etc) so that when I have the s3 plugged into the screen, it looks more like a computer's view- not like just mirroring the phone view onto a bigger screen.
Thanks in advance!

S7 Screen Dead, Phone on - How do I access it for backup?

So my new S7 's screen is completely dead. I can see the soft buttons light up and I've been trying to swipe but I can't. I was going to try to screen mirror to my Fire TV (by looking at a vid and hopefully hitting the right places to get it to connect) but the screen isn't passing any input.
So my next thought was to get a USB OTG cable and a mouse, although I have no idea how fast the pointer will move making guess the steps to connect really hard. I was also looking at chrome extension Vysor, but again, it need debugging enabled (which isn't) on the phone for it to work. Apparently sammy discontinued MHL support so there's no way to just plug in to in a TV with a cable,
Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can force access on the phone to get a backup? Again, I need something that will let me see the screen, preferably in as little steps as possible (the more menus I have to navigate, the less likely I'll be able to blindly fumble my way through)
Thanks!
Anyone?````
same situation here, not much resources out there. Is your phone still connected to your wifi? mine is not so I can't get google play to install apps to it.
If you can though...
Samsung SideSync was recommended on another forum, similar to vysor but might work wirelessly for you
Good luck, and please let me know if you find a solution. I might by vysor to try wireless (they haven't answered me whether or not wireless version by passes the need for usb debugging)

If it's turning on (except by the screen) you can use Smart Switch or Kies to recover your data.

OR You can use FIND MY MOBILE if you registered a Samsung account to unlock remotely and use USB.

Control phone with broken lcd

Hi
I have Galaxy Ace 4 (kitkat 4.4) with broken lcd. The screen is blank but touch should work. Earlier something was visible on screen and as I remember touch was working.
Moreover, the system had some failure due to permanent "application xxx stopped working" and factory reset should be made.
I would like to use this phone as wifi hotspot. Is there any way to access the phone after factory reset? I have found application like Visor to control android via usb on pc. But developer mode has to be enabled and I'm not sure if system should be rooted.
Thank you for any help
If you can still see the screen, but the touch screen does not work:
Buy a cheap USB adapter so you can connect a PC keyboard or mouse (probably a USB C to USB A adapter). You can buy these adapters from China on eBay for $ 1 (but you may have to wait a month until they arrive in the mail. In this case, buy from a seller in your own country). I suppose you have a keyboard or just use the keyboard and use the arrows to move and select things, so I think the Windows button will become the home button. Press Enter to select and Escape to return. Or you can simply point and click with the mouse. The problem is that not all phones support "OTG", so you may not be able to read the adapter. If so, then I think you have no other choice. . But most of the stores themselves definitely support 100% OTG, so it should work normally. The problem with Bluetooth is that you need to pair it first, which requires touching the screen. Therefore, if you cannot touch the screen, using a Bluetooth mouse or keyboard may not work
If you can't see the screen, but the touch screen works normally:
Unless you change the screen, don't think that there are many things you can do. Android phones that were previously compatible with MHL allow you to use a dongle to connect it directly to HDMI. But the cell phone no longer has that function. If you have a Samsung phone, I think you can buy a Samsung Dex docking station, which will allow you to connect it to the screen via HDMI. If you can install applications on your phone, you may be able to control your phone from your computer using a screen mirroring application (there are thousands of different software that can do this, but you need to install applications on your phone). Same as Google Chromecast screen mirroring. .You need to access the application on your phone to perform this operation. Therefore, there is nothing you can do except replace the screen. If you are lucky and your smartphone supports some type of HDMI dongle adapter or some type of desktop docking station with HDMI output, you can view the phone's screen and access it.

Hello, Shield tablet has only HDMI out. so, it can't be used as display effectively. If you could try those apps that uses USB cable, they still are limited by USB transfer speed, and custom code in their apps. They most likey won't perform fast enough to be a good display.
VNC viewer and other screen sharing apps are only decent options, but they lag, and resolution may mess up from time to time.
