[Q] Use NVidia shield tablet as a display for PC - Shield Tablet Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, I have no use for my tablet so i was wondering, if i can somehow make the tablet a wired display. There are lots of app avaiable but i didn't find any that could connect to my pc with a cable. And alot of them are paid.
Is there a more effective way to do this?
Thank you

Hello, Shield tablet has only HDMI out. so, it can't be used as display effectively. If you could try those apps that uses USB cable, they still are limited by USB transfer speed, and custom code in their apps. They most likey won't perform fast enough to be a good display.
VNC viewer and other screen sharing apps are only decent options, but they lag, and resolution may mess up from time to time.

Is external touch screen control possible?

Hello all, I've been wondering lately if it's possible for an Android phone to be plugged into an external touch screen and be completely controlled via the external touchscreen?
By possible, I actually mean easily done via some basic or maybe not so basic code.
I know some Android devices offer mirroring via mini hdmi, but you usually have to either control using a remote or the phone. I'd rather have it connect through the micro-usb port, lay the phone somewhere else, and fully control the phone through the external touch screen.
I tried to search, but wasn't sure what to use for the search and all I found was ways to remotely control you pc using your device.
no i dont think so....a web application is there for controlling your phone via wifi with the help of router..
Airdroid try it..

Thanks for the reply. I'll give Airdroid a try, but I was looking for a more direct option. I'm thinking there has to be a way since the webtops/laptop docks seem to work well, but again those use mouses/keyboards for control.
I am hot on this idea too
I have a lilliput 4 wire resistive screen that i want to use a carputer.
I have seen one solution that is stuck in "coming soon" that requires some manual intervention called customgadz...google it. It's expensive.
I have googled endlessly to try and find a way to input the Liliput directly into the Atrix HD dock as a USB input but the touch screen needs to be calibrated.
So i've resorted to emailing liliput to see what they say.

Looking for an app..

I frequently use the hdmi adapter cable to plug my s3 in to an external screen for videos and msg throughout the day.
my question is: is there an app that turns the screen into a laptop style touch/gesture pad? i use a bluetooth keyboard with it all the time, and if i could just use the screen as a touchpad, it'd save me from needing to purchase a bluetooth mouse.
i have searched google and this site, but i believe i may be using the incorrect search terms. i cannot be the first person to think of this! thanks in advance!

For videos and messaging, I just skip the screen mirroring and use Airdroid. It puts all the info in a desktop view and eliminates the need to even have the phone nearby.

Daemon, I appreciate your input, but that's not what I want. I do not have or want the screen that I connect the s3 to connected to another computer. I simply wish to use the touchscreen on the s3 as if it were a laptop style touchpad for itself, so I do not need a bluetooth mouse.
On a similar note, I am looking for an app, that would allow me to change the resolution of the operating system, or at least certain apps (like browser, etc) so that when I have the s3 plugged into the screen, it looks more like a computer's view- not like just mirroring the phone view onto a bigger screen.
Thanks in advance!

advice needed for mini pc project

I want to design a program that will run on an Android Mini PC. It'll be connected to any monitor so that when the monitor is turned on, it'll power up the android mini pc via USB (monitor will be required to have USB port) and then the program will start automatically and display on the monitor.
The program itself is a visual acuity chart (like at your eye doctor's office). So it will run all day as you use an RF remote to flip through the images.
Sound easy? I'm trying to figure out if Android or Raspberry Pi would be best for this.
Thanks
Pretty cool idea. The only thing I can think of is Android on the Android sticks allows a customizable boot animation which would be cool to create your own for marketing. The Android sticks are also faster and boot quicker so less wait.
You can also remote desktop into a more powerful machine to offload some work. Essentially have a server as the mainframe.
Android will also require you program it to run at startup. I'm not sure how you do this without a 3rd party app, but I know some apps that load on startup.
Both units are tiny and the android sticks include wifi and there are some Bluetooth models. The Raspberry Pi has neither. And boots slower and isn't powerful.
I think its an easy choice.

ok, so it would at least be possible but I'd need some intricate coding and extra apps which is ok with me. thanks
You need to look at the power requirements of the Android Mini PC as well. Often they draw more power than is available through TV and monitor USB ports. You might get enough power to run the mini PC but if you have wifi, wireless keyboard/mouse, bluetooth and other devices the power draw might exceed the output of the monitor. This is something I am interested in as well as I am trying to resolve the power on/off problem on these mini PCs. The probox has a remote with a power button but I've heard the remote has problems with distances more than 1M.

I won't need BT, wifi, or really anything. I need to find someone that thinks he can tackle this project. Any good places to hire someone for this type of work?

Couldn't you use tasker or locale or something similar to run an app on startup? Just an idea...

Screen casting/wireless display for devices that do not support it

I have a cheap cinese tablet (a teclast P80X, see http://www.teclast.com/en/zt/P80X/) that does not directly support screen sharing/casting, wireless display or whatever else is that called.
I'd like to mirror the display to a Samsung smart TV but I'd be okay also to mirror the display to the Windows HTPC that is connected to the TV.
Any reasonably working options? Most of the apps available on the Play Store are just wrappers around the built-in wireless display support that is not available on this tablet. TIA.

There are mobile app/PC program combinations that work together to share the screen to your PC if they are both on the same wireless network. If you have a PC or a laptop, you can use these app/program combinations to share the tablets screen to the PC or laptop then connect the PC or laptop to the smart tv via the PC input port on the tv and the PC or laptop's screen will be displayed on the TV.
It's a bit of a roundabout, but, given that your hardware does not support screen sharing, you will not find a software solution to achieve this, you will have to use some kind of external hardware.
If you can find an app on the tv that has a companion app for your tablet that work together in the same manner as the mobile app/PC program combinations.
A Google search for
"Share android screen to PC over Wifi"
Should find many android/PC screen sharing solutions. Find one that works and that you are comfortable with, use it to share your tablet display to PC/laptop then connect the PC/laptop to the TV. I do this myself when the need arises, it works for me when needed.
So i ended up using scrcpy (https://github.com/Genymobile/scrcpy) which is just great. The only catch is that you need adb/usb debug which was not a problem in my case.

Question Problem with camera app in dex mode.

Hello, I often use Samsung Dex with my s22ultra (using wifi). The problem is with the "Camera" app. It is very limited, no zoom, no resolution options. Anyone have a solution? Maybe some other video app?
Are you using the front or back camera? The front (selfie) camera doesn't zoom, nor can you change the resolution.
I try use back camera... and i cant zoom or change anything options.
What is your setup? How are you connecting to the monitor/TV, and how are you controlling your phone? Wired? Wireless? Are you using a keyboard and mouse?
To my knowledge, you can't display DeX on your phone itself, it has to be connected to an external display like a TV or monitor.

Ok. I presume you are using the Samsung DeX app on your laptop and that your laptop is a Windows machine.
I will try it today. I expect that I will get the same results.
To be honest, I don't think there are any other camera/video apps that would do what you want while in DeX. At least not any that would work with the phone's cameras. DeX was not really designed to be used in that way. It was intended to be a laptop/desktop replacement solution.
Why are you needing to be able to have back camera control while using DeX? Just curious.

Ok. So I have the same limitation. When I run the camera app from DeX I can only switch between front and back cameras. No zoom control.
However, if I connect via Link to Windows and then control the phone from Phone Link, I have complete control of the camera. I connected using Phone Link wirelessly.
So, if you want complete control of your phone from your laptop, connect your phone via Link to Windows and then use Phone Link to control it.
