I've seen a post somewhere here about having multiple copies of folders and files in the phone's internal storage, but I'm not able find it any more. Every time I move a ROM in my phone's internal storage, then CWM it, I always notice that the ZIP has a "clone" with the same size as the original; however, it is not a ZIP file: it just says "File". This applies to ALL the files in each folder, including music and video files. Can someone give me insight and enlighten of this problem?
Additionally, would I be able to rid of all these extra files, or would it make my originals unusable?
I've not seen it myself. But i think the extra files are just "ghost" versions and are not really there. But i could be wrong.
Do me a favor and try putting the sd card in a computer and see if the extra files are there. Could you also upload a screen shot of the issue. I've been trying to track this one down for a while.

Try formatting the internal storage THROUGH Android itself, not off of a computer.

You actually can't see it through file explorers in the phone itself, but only when connecting it to a computer. AND LOL I deleted a "copy" of one of my clips which resulted into an error when trying to play it.

what os are you using on your computer (windows, mac, linux)?
do the "ghost" files have any strange characteristics? (dot '.' in the front, '~' before or after, grayed out/see through)

I'm using Windows 7 to connect my G2X. And nope, they have the exact same name. There are no strange characteristics and are not grayed out/see through.

few more questions for ya
are you connected using UTP or MTP (does it show up like a USB thumb Drive on your computer, or does it say its a "media Device"?)
also, have you tried copying the files over to your desktop and seeing if they work when one is deleted?

AHA it's cool. I just want to know how to fix this slight problem cuz it's bothering me every time I move a new ROM into my phone! AND It's connected as a Media Device.
I'll try copying some files to my desktop now
YOO! OMG the extra files aren't there any more! I am certain now that this is a problem with AOKP ROMS, including the new Genesis! This make sense because I've never encountered this problem until I got addicted to AOKP since it's first ics release for the G2X. I can't confirm for other ROMS, however, except Hellfire Sandwich 1.6, because I'm currently using it right now.

Hello,
I have a HTC G1 and I couldn't get the windows recognize the device. Guess it needs a driver before I can install apps to test it on the phone. I was referred to this forum by someone in the Android Developers forum. Do you guys have any insight?

you have one? like sitting in front of you and you can touch it? and to answer question it doesnt sync with computer it syncs with google over the air...
Yes, it was right in front of me a few minutes go. It has gone for a walk around other cubes.
Won't you need to have some connectivity with the PC to use the ADB?
If by "ADB" you mean contacts, all that is sync'd with Google online. Nothing has really been said about connectivity with any desktop PCs yet.

I have developed an application using the emulator and now wanted to test on the device. How can I load it on the phone? Could you explain the process?
Thanks.
You already have a jump on most of us by actually *having* the phone. A micro-SD card would probably be your best bet.
I have one too, and am having the same USB connectivity problems. The SD card shows up as a USB Mass Storage Device. It wants another driver for what it says is "Android Device".
According to what we've heard so far (here and on tmonews) that's exactly what's expected to happen.

how is it possible if g1 release is on oct 22nd?
from all the press releasinfo and various blogs, its beenreported a fe hundred times that the G1 will not sync in any way, shape, or form ith a pc. This also means that youcan not try to install any app on the device through a pc like you can with a pocket pc. You will been to dr the instal file over to the storage card on the G1 and install it from there.
Also, if you actually have the devi, I'm sure all of us here on the site would love to see a detailed video of it. I know we've all seen the dozen from a few weeks ago, but there's still a lot tt was not shown.

yes vid please!! also nick is right your best bet is to probably upload it to your sd card and then put it back into the phone and install from there...if not we should start working on a sync program or something such as this
If i had mine already i would have posted all kinds of info and pictures on it. If you truely have one which i don't see how you could then put us out of our misery and share the wealth lol.
USB mass storage ?
I thought that the phone shows up as a usb mass storage device when plugged into win, mac or linux boxes via USB. Is that not true?
According to the user manual, the SD card shows up as a mass-storage device via USB. It doesn't say anything about the phone's memory.
Stop thinking winmo, guys Why write a sync application when it's drag-and-drop in the first place?
this is true....as far as adding music and whatever else you like you should be able to just drop in onto the sd card right? the only thing that people are needing a sync if for the exchange?

I found this post in google http://groups.google.com/group/android-developers/msg/b9f5ddc77af39239
I put the binary folder into the SD card under /download. Now I don't know how to access the SD card and launch the application.
If i could only have it for just 3 hours. I would love to open up the phone dissect it, and later see if we can get it into bootloader, maybe mtty.
that "android device"
I *think* that is the debug CLI (not a linux shell) called the Android Debug Bridge.
Interesting that it is client/server and runs on odd port numbers between 5555 and 5585.

Right on man, sorry i didn't mean any disrespect i didn't think it was possible to get one early. Looks sweet, are you happy with it so far? Was wondering what kind of material the outer shell was made out of, is it rubberized or more like a plastic type material? I love the dash shell, it has a rubberized shell.
So I check my Xoom out this morning and Boom "Low on Space 'Tablet storage space is getting low'. It is impossible that I filled all of the space. I looked at my breakup and i have about 6Gb of music and it says the rest is completely full due to applications. I look at my applications but I only have about 3GB worth of application and data attributed to saves (manually counting). For the most part, besides the stock honeycomb apps, these apps are the same that I have on my Droid1. Which has much smaller storage. Somehow some app is taking up all the space (which i can't identify), the OS is corrupted, or I have a virus. Everything else has been pretty mainstream applications.
I have the OTA update and my Xoom has never been rooted.
Is anyone else having this problem?
A lot of people got this issue. It is being discussed in the Motorola official Xoom forum. But still no one know what's the root cause.

Hi Everyone,
For those users not yet experiencing this but wants to see whats going on, I made a video. There is also a way to check to see if this is occurring to you by checking out your internal storage on the Xoom.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tWFeq0Qj3iA
Is there anyone else experiencing this issue on their Xoom?
It happened to me last night while playing WordFeud. I get the two line message "Low on space" and "Tablet storage space is getting low"
There is no way that I am using 25 gig in applications.
Thanks,
Dan
My initial guess is that it is Application specific. My xoom has 628Mb for Applications. I think maybe some app that each of you is using is continuing to pull in data and not deleting it over time. Maybe something like a news stream or something else. I would chat with the others having this problem and see what similar apps you have.
Just a thought. Sounds odd, I agree.. but.. a place to start. Maybe akin to a memory leak.
Thanks for the quick reply, eaglecomm. Your suggestion makes sense. In looking around a little this morning, I see that some people thought it might be the Google Body app, which I had installed. I uninstalled it, but it didn't make a difference.
It turns out that there is a fix coming in the next update.
The thread is at the Motorola Owners Forum titled 'XOOM Storage is Full' problem - 47 apps takes up 27 GB?
Since I am a new member here, I cannot post the actual link.
I thought I would post this info for any other Xoom owners that are have this concern.
I am glad to see it is being addessed.
Thanks,
Dan
My Xoom is not indicating that it is low on storage, but the applications do seem to be taking up an inordinate amount of space. Funky little bug.
On a positive note, it is good to know that the functionality of this device will only get better over time.
Tombstones
Are any of you able to look at the sizes of the files in /data/tombstones? I had the same problem and did some digging and found a tombstone file that is 19 GB. It appears to have been generated by a browser crash. If any of you are having the problem can you open a terminal and go to /data/tombstones and find the biggest file and type cat (name of biggest file) and tell us the name of the process (listed after pid). You may need to be rooted and may need busybox for cat to work. I doubt it's only the browser... I'm curious to know if it's a honeycomb thing with how it tombstones app crashes.
Have you tried using a cache cleaner ? I use 1 Tap Cleaner and Fast Cache Cleaner .
Try using DiskUsage to view what is using up your storage. If you're rooted it gives you even more options to view specific folders. If you've ever used WinDirStat then this is the closest thing android has to it that I've found.

Although Moto is promising an update "soon" to fix this, the problem has been getting reported on for over 45 days now. Some people were hit with this early and some more recently - like myself. This one was sort of the last straw for me. I had to do a factory reset on mine (in Settings) in order to resolve this issue; which hasn't reared its ugly head again since. However, between that mess, and no SD card, SMS, etc, I finally got fed up and rooted mine so that I could use the Tiamat kernel and at least add a 32 GB SD card in the slot provided. Rooting also allowed for Clockwork Recovery (which I love) so making modifications is much easier. If and when Motorizon decides to provide us with the 4G update, then I'll flash it back to stock. However, in the right here and now, I needed a tablet for my work and didn't have the luxury to sit around with my hands tied and wait for Moto to finally have pity on us and provide what they hyped us with. The XOOM has become too integral a part of my work and home life. The product answered a lot of needs - some I didn't even realize that I had. I'll just have to do the extra step now of flashing back to stock when (and if) update time finally comes around. Until then, I'm moving forward and I've got WORK to do!! Yippee kyy-yaayyyy!!
I have this problem and looked in my folders trying to find large files using ES File Explorer. I have found a repeating set of folders here:
/sys/module/usbhid/drivers/hid:generic-usb/module/drivers/hid:generic-usb/module
These folders keep going and going and going. I tried to look at the properties of the sys/module folder but the file size kept going and going and going. I ran it all night and it was still running in the morning at 1.25GB and counting. Is it safe to delete the repeating set of folders? Does anyone know what these folders are used for?

Looks to me like a recursive bug where the folder or device is continually being created inside itself, it would cause everything from unstable os to complete unresponsiveness and even filling up the storage.
Macbots drool as I XOOM through the Galaxy to my hearts Desire.
For some reason my Media Scanner isn't working and updating the libraries. I checked for .nomedia files and there were none. What could the issue be?
Are you talking about the stock gallery? Quickpic detects everything fine for me, I never use the stock anymore.
Well yeah the built in Android one.
I create folders and download files on the tablet but I can't see them on my PC over MTP until I restart the tablet which fires up Media Scanner.

I don't think that's the case here. My Samsung Galaxy 10.1 runs Media Scanner when files are changed and have never had this issue.
Also the default music player does not see new files added until the tablet has been restarted.

Ooooh, I see your point. I meant the ASUS tablets' file transfers are unreliable (this was the case with my prime too). I don't really know what the problem might be. Have you tried upgrading the normal stuff (upgrading firmware, factory resets)? Also, I've heard good things about the beats ROM in the dev section.

I am running the latest .26 firmware and have tried factory reset. I've not flashed a custom recovery yet, so not going to be able to try custom ROMs just yet.
File transfers for me have been fine. I created a folder on the tablet (via ES File Explorer) and then had to reboot the tablet before this folder was visible on my PC via MTP. I then copied 20GB to the tablet without a hiccup.
I've seen countless threads on these 2 errors, but I just found something intriguing on my android device.
This one is a Measy U1A android stick (the ones that you connect to your TV via HDMI). A truly nice piece of hardware, but it seems to have some issues.
Since day 1 I can't install apps most of the time. Yes, *most* of the time. 80% I get the "Invalid Package file" error, another 10% of the time I get a "Package was not signed correctly", but curiously enough, a 10% of the time the packages go through and install correctly.
Of course, this gets on my nerves.
Now, I'd really want to know what's going on and I'd love some help from the true Android experts.
This is what I've already done:
Got a Log Viewer to see what was going on.
At first it said that was an error downloading (more on this later)
Then other times it said that there was no signature for X or Y file INSIDE the apk file (I remember some libraries, I was trying to install netflix on my tests)
So, I tried to tackle the download error by checking the space (df), I found that /data had few space remaining, so I cleared stuff from it. Now I have 308Mb free, more than enough to download Netflix (14Mb download). I'm talking about /data since I found out that the downloadfile-x.apk files get downloaded to /data/data/com.android.providers/downloads/cache
Tried again, nothing. Ok, so I thought that maybe there was some weird error in the /data partition. I created a directory on the sdcard portion of the stick and linked it (ln -s). Same issues. I created a directory on my external sd card and liked to it, and the same.
Now, for the weird part, and this is where I'd love some insight:
Out of 5 downloads, ES File Explorer got installed correctly, and I got a bunch of EQUALLY SIZED downloadfile-x.apk files on that directory, but NONE OF THEM HAS THE SAME MD5 SUM. Weird? Yep, but that could only mean 3 things: Either there's a problem with my wifi/network stack, or the /data, /sdcard, /mnt/extsd partitions ALL have errors in them. The 3rd option is that Perhaps Google signs every download with a different salt and that's the reason they are all different. But I DON'T THINK THE 3rd OPTION IS LOGICAL OR PRACTICAL.
Now, I don't have access to recovery here... well, I haven't tried but there's no obvious option, perhaps CWM but I don't want to risk it too much since it ran Ubuntu for a while and now that won't boot (that's another topic, unable to debug it since I can't see anything on the screen until it boots).
I've already tried:
1. Deleting Play Cache and Data, rebooting
2. Deleting Play and installing it again (it took several tries because of the same issue)
3. Factory Default and logging to my google account again
4. FIRMWARE UPGRADE (yes, I found a new firmware, it seems faster and more stable, but I still have that issue).
Now, I haven't found a memory checker or a "nand" (as you call it) checker on the app market, do these apps exist? I'd love to rule this out.
Thanks if anyone has another option, as I said, I'm out of them. The funny thing is that once the apps are installed THEY WORK FINE!!!!
Please help, I just can't spend 15 minutes to install each app that I want
I know my way around Linux, so don't be afraid to suggest crazy things :fingers-crossed:

Mexico City here.
I found a firmware update, it makes the homepage icons bigger, changes the boot screen and overall feels faster. But I still have the same error.
As for the remote control, I found a vnc server that can be run on the dongle, and any vnc viewer can be used to control it.
I got a Rikkomagic III (not S, silly me), and let me say, that thing kicks the U1A over the window, performance is great but it has no bluetooth.
I'll keep trying to find a solution for my issue, as the Rikkomagic works fine.

As of now there is only one app . Remodroid which works as per requirement
you can download it from play store. you need to install in both the Dongle and cellphone . it works well.but sluggish at times
I'm trying to transfer my pictures and videos from my Nexus 4. There is about 8GB. I first transferred them to my laptop and then plugged in the Nexus 5 to transfer them to the new phone.
The phones android.process.media keeps crashing 1/4 of the way through the transfer. Even when I limit it to 100 pics at a time there is still some crashing somewhere. I just can't get a big batch of pics/vids to transfer.
Any idea why?
I get that too. Someone else reported it too. Not sure how to fix it right now though.

In a pinch, you could try sending an entire folder via adb push. If you don't have ADB set up and working yet, there are guides available. I realize the average end-user shouldn't have to do this but it's worth a mention.
For example:
adb push ./bigassphotofolder /sdcard/bigassphotofolder
And then wait... quite a while... until it finishes.
An alternate "cloud solution" if you don't need them all stored locally is to put them in Google+ Photos.
Use Airdroid and wifi instead. Excellent app.

Haha thanks man. I've also had other phones too like the HTC Sensation (not worth mentioning, I hated that thing).

cmstlist - adb push speeds are terribly slow

That's a disadvantage yes. Also if you are using a desktop computer with multiple USB ports, make sure you are connected directly to a rear port and not to a hub or a front port. That can make a real speed difference.
Hello
I'm having the same problem trying to transfer files from my Nexus 4 to my Nexus 5.
I'm using adb push and while some folders would transfer without problems, others would simply get stuck halfway. No error message or anything. It's just stops and I have to Ctrl+C and retry and the whole operation.
It's frustrating yesterday I've spent the whole day with this and I still could finish copying the files, so I'm still on my old phone.
Is there anything reliable like adb push but with resume support, or at least that skips existing files?
Thanks.

I always use an FTP server, but Airdroid works.
I use "ES Explorer" - Tools - Remote manager

Thanks. I ended up using SSHDroidPro. Paired with WinSCP I was able to transfer everything over, and finally I'm using my new phone. Up until now I was under the impression that a USB cable was faster than Wi-Fi, and that adb was the most robust way of moving files. I guess I was wrong on both fronts. Oh well, I learned something new
Cheers.
The easiest way to prevent the FCs is to do as follows:
1. When copying audio/video etc, select 'Camera (PTP)' as the connection from the statusbar dropdown.
2. When copying music, select 'Media device (MTP)'
No more FCs.
I just got my nexus last night and I did the same thing as op and was getting the same error. Will try some other things when I get home tonight.

I have the same issue on my Nexus 5 and glad it's not just me. I never had anything like this happen on my Note 2 so it was really weird seeing it happen.
I had to resort to using Airdroid, which is highly annoying because anything over 100 files takes forever to load into the web interface and even has Chrome thinking the tab has crashed when it hasn't. I had to load files 100 at a time onto my Nexus 5.
I hope Google can fix this. Does anyone know if a bug report was filed? Is Google aware of this issue?
Hmm I have around 2500 pictures and 1k songs to transfer...I think I might wait for a better solution

I have almost 2000 wallpapers that I use with a rotation app. Air droid worked for transferring them all as I was having the same issue.

On a related note, I have noticed with past transfers that adb pull does not preserve created/modified date flags, while adb push does. In particular it does this with photos which then confuses the gallery. So often I have had to use Windows copy to dump files without losing the date stamp, and adb push to put everything back en masse.
(Sigh, I do miss the days when this entire process consisted of moving a microSD to the new phone)
