go to the play store app, hit menu > settings > 4th box down is Auto-add Widgets. uncheck that box and return to the main menu. now you should be all set
^As said above.
I have GB market however, and to me it says "Auto add shortcuts". It depends if you're on ICS or GB to know which option you'll get.

This is probably one of the best apps I have seen in a long time!
1. Get it on the market
2. Set as default home
3. Set the home you were using before in settings
4. Double tap home anywhere and see a mini homescreen!
It's VERY similar to Apple's overlay feature on Macs (middle button) which lets you put widgets and access them at any time.
Try it out!

YES! Exactly what I need when I walk outside and bam the sunlight hits the screen, press home twice to access the power control widget and turn the brightness up, never even leaving the app I was in! I love Faruq Rasid's work, first the HelixLaunchers and now QuickDesk!
This is pretty slick.
Nice job!

Same here! It's perfect!
I've used this since it was in Alpha.\ and I absolutely love it! Everyone should use this.
If you didn't set it up properly, it says you can clear defaults in your Android applications settings if the popup doesn't appear.
Where exactly is that. I don't want to end up clearing the wrong stuff.
Manage apps in settings menu, choose app, and then choose clear defaults.
Sweet app....very useful as I need Lamppu while under a desk while using pinout so thanks!

It's not a one-size-fits-all kind of thing.

It doesn't actually say, but if you see it in the Marketplace it most likely will work with your device.
Wow this is actually really useful! Thans for letting us know about this apk

I don't know if this is just me... because I haven't seen anyone else complain.
It looks like a very nice concept, but my phone would lag all over the place when I used this app. When I would select applications some would be unresponsive and when I would select from a list, the highlight would flicker... Did I do something wrong? Should I just try reinstalling it?
**edit... I tried reinstalling it... I encountered the same problem again. But then I messed with some of the settings and it worked fine. Great app!
If you guys are not too sure on how to setup QuickDesk on your phone, here a guide for you, http://droidbar.net/2010/09/quickdesk-setup-guide/

Option A: Uninstall a launcher (for example Go Launcher) and it will ask again.
Option B: Go to Settings-->Applications-->All apps-->"The launcher you are using by default right now" (In this case Go Launcher)-->Delete default config or something like that (scroll down to see it).
Option C: Search in the market for Home Manager (https://market.android.com/details?id=com.carp.HomeManager&feature=search_result)
You re right again..thanks pal
Ok.. So here's the issue. I'm using Nova Prime.(This might not matter which launcher you use) And I noticed that if I uninstall Nova and use the stock launcher again, it shows shortcuts of things I have downloaded. Problem is most of these I already uninstalled while using Nova. But they still show on stock launcher. Is there a way to stop the Note from creating a shortcut icon on the home page so this doesn't happen? I really don't want to keep using a different home launcher knowing that in the background it will be creating home page shortcuts on the stock launcher. As I said when this happens they are present even If I uninstall the app while using a different home launcher..
Am curious to see if anyone else can recreate this issue. To do so, install something from the play store while using a different home launcher(Nova would be best since its what i'm using) and make sure to set Nova or whatever you are using to default then uninstall the app and uninstall the launcher. You should now see the app icon shortcut still present on the stock launcher and when you press it it says app not found or something.
Anyway thanks . Keep in mind if you uninstall your preferred launcher you will loose your settings so do it only if you want to. Either way I hope there is a way to stop our tab from creating "desktop shortcuts" in the background of other launchers:silly:
i think u can disable "create shortcut in desktop" in play store's settings

Auto add widgets is the one, if you uncheck it there will be no more shortcuts on homescreen when you download from playstore.

Hi All,
So I've got Paranoid Android JB on my HOS and have a question. Usually, or at least on ICS, in the Google Play store there were 3 dots that when click listed something like "My Apps" or gave you some more options. Similarly in the Contacts App, there was an extra menu button that allowed you to edit and delete etc.
Well, I don't seem to have that option. How on earth do I edit a contact or view my installed Apps via the Play Store?

Not 100% but if it got some kind of toolboox in the settings menu then its in there somewhere under Hardware Keys.
If your ROM has AOKP "ROM Control" under Settings, then its under Rom Control, General UI, and all the way at the bottom w "Show Menu UI Overflow"
It has to be somewhere in your settings though.

Spot on, thank you.
Did Verizon disable this for some reason? Or did HTC? When I open the Google Search app (where you can usually say "Ok Google" to jump into voice commands), the settings say it's enabled, however it doesn't say "ok google" next to the microphone icon in the search bar, like it usually does
It's especially weird because I vaguely remember using the Ok Google a few days after I got it, but I could be mistaken (quite often this is the case)
No matter how loud I've screamed at it, it's not working. Anybody else having this?
Lol. The m8 isn't "always listening"

Ok Google works with this phone. There is a setting that enables hot word detection in Google now, check there.

I know it's not always listening. However you usually can say OK Google from the Google now app to go to voice commands
And I already have it on in the settings, but it's not working.
Oh and also when I installed the Google now launcher to see if it would work on the home screen there, it didn't.

Is your app out of date perhaps? It works fine for me, but it is limited to the Google Now app. I can't do it on the homescreen, but it works perfectly fine from the Google Now app (swipe up from home).
If you are totally up to date, maybe try going with a factory reset.

actually, this is how it works for me as well. I was hoping to get it from the home screen but swiping up is ok...not totally hands free but close.

If you want it on the homescreen, you'll have to sideload the Google Now Launcher APK and use that instead of BlinkFeed. You do lose access to HTC's widgets, but other than that there's not much difference.
If you want to do that, here's the XDA thread to get the APK:

Now Launcher's folders are a white circle background with the "stack" icon effect. You can simulate this in Nova and see how you like it before installing.
Nova Settings > Folders > Background > White Circle
Nova Settings > Folders > Style > Stack
