Did Verizon disable this for some reason? Or did HTC? When I open the Google Search app (where you can usually say "Ok Google" to jump into voice commands), the settings say it's enabled, however it doesn't say "ok google" next to the microphone icon in the search bar, like it usually does
It's especially weird because I vaguely remember using the Ok Google a few days after I got it, but I could be mistaken (quite often this is the case)
No matter how loud I've screamed at it, it's not working. Anybody else having this?
Lol. The m8 isn't "always listening"

Ok Google works with this phone. There is a setting that enables hot word detection in Google now, check there.

And I already have it on in the settings, but it's not working.
Oh and also when I installed the Google now launcher to see if it would work on the home screen there, it didn't.

Is your app out of date perhaps? It works fine for me, but it is limited to the Google Now app. I can't do it on the homescreen, but it works perfectly fine from the Google Now app (swipe up from home).
If you are totally up to date, maybe try going with a factory reset.

If you want it on the homescreen, you'll have to sideload the Google Now Launcher APK and use that instead of BlinkFeed. You do lose access to HTC's widgets, but other than that there's not much difference.
If you want to do that, here's the XDA thread to get the APK:

Now Launcher's folders are a white circle background with the "stack" icon effect. You can simulate this in Nova and see how you like it before installing.
Nova Settings > Folders > Background > White Circle
Nova Settings > Folders > Style > Stack

UPDATE: Version 1.1 is prettier and now launches straight to the Google Voice inbox without the delay from Version 1.0.
Here is a simple app I created that will allow Google Voice to be launched from the message icon on the MIUI lockscreen. I use it with this ROM here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=915527
Usage:
Install the attached APK.
Lock your phone.
Unlock your phone from the MIUI lockscreen by swiping with the message icon on the right.
In the "Complete action using" dialog, check "Use by default for this action" and select "Inbox"
You're done! Now whenever your unlock your phone with the message icon, it should launch straight to the Google Voice inbox.
You may need to uninstall any previous versions of the app, since they were signed with the debug keys. To do so, navigate through the following:
Settings -> Programs -> Manage Applications -> Downloaded -> com.ayuforever.googlevoicecatcher -> Uninstall
For anyone who's interested, the reason that Google Voice isn't available by default from the lockscreen message icon is that it doesn't have the intent filter for the "vnd.android-dir/mms-sms" mimetype. This app registers the needed intent filter and in turn launches the Google Voice app.
This is really cool.
How hard is it to change the lock screen icon designations?
Is it possible to change one of the icons to be a search icon, so that when you unlock with it, it launches a search keyboard?
p
lets try this again.

All I wrote was an app that catches an intent that Google Voice didn't already catch. Changing the icons on the lock screen? You'd have to ask the MIUI devs about that.

The messaging icon starts the activity for the default intent of the "vnd.android-dir/mms-sms" mimetype. While the stock messaging app and other apps like Handcent register this intent, the Google Voice app does not.
All this app does is register the necessary intent and then start Google Voice.
It doesn't do any sort of modding to the MIUI lockscreen at all.
how do I uninstall it? thanks in advance
I don't have to wait long for google voice to open I use swiftkey it opens quick for me thanks

Google Voice for calling
Have any of you gotten Google Voice making calls to work? So far the dialer doesn't seem to want to route my calls through Google Voice... :-/
Ran across this today. Wonderful stuff. Works perfectly after setup.
Edit: Working on Samsung Captivate
Thanks.
Working great so far with Rod's miui mod!
I've been wanting something like this for a long time.

How did you solve this? I need GV for international calling.
EDIT: I figured it out. Go into settings > Programs > Call Settings and enable 3rd party access under the phone security section

Ok.. So here's the issue. I'm using Nova Prime.(This might not matter which launcher you use) And I noticed that if I uninstall Nova and use the stock launcher again, it shows shortcuts of things I have downloaded. Problem is most of these I already uninstalled while using Nova. But they still show on stock launcher. Is there a way to stop the Note from creating a shortcut icon on the home page so this doesn't happen? I really don't want to keep using a different home launcher knowing that in the background it will be creating home page shortcuts on the stock launcher. As I said when this happens they are present even If I uninstall the app while using a different home launcher..
Am curious to see if anyone else can recreate this issue. To do so, install something from the play store while using a different home launcher(Nova would be best since its what i'm using) and make sure to set Nova or whatever you are using to default then uninstall the app and uninstall the launcher. You should now see the app icon shortcut still present on the stock launcher and when you press it it says app not found or something.
Anyway thanks . Keep in mind if you uninstall your preferred launcher you will loose your settings so do it only if you want to. Either way I hope there is a way to stop our tab from creating "desktop shortcuts" in the background of other launchers:silly:
i think u can disable "create shortcut in desktop" in play store's settings

Auto add widgets is the one, if you uncheck it there will be no more shortcuts on homescreen when you download from playstore.

This is going to sound trivial to a lot of you, but i really don't like the Now search widget parked on each of my desktops. On the Now screen, it's fine, but I like seeing my home screen wallpaper.
In KitKat, there used to be a setting to remove this from other screens, but I can't seem to find it in Lollipop. Anyone know if I'm missing it somewhere, or is this one of those things we have to wait for in the next update?
Did you look in google settings? I'm pretty sure its there.

They might have removed it, not sure. But since Xposed isn't available on Lollipop right now, you have to completely disable google now or use a custom launcher.

For the record, I never used Xposed on KitKat. All I know was that I was able to remove the widget from the center and right home pages, either through a drag and delete or through a setting on the phone. I've dug through all the settings and can't seem to find it. Maybe I'll check my wife's phone later, since she hasn't installed the update on hers yet.

Unfortunately, I didn't (well, at least not for what you're seeing in that screenshot). If you visit plus.google.com in Chrome, it offers to put a link to the site on your home screen. So, that icon just opens the web version of Google+. I did install Google+ earlier today, but because I had to sign it myself to remove the conflicting permissions (it conflicts with the improperly built Gallery app), Google's servers rejected the client. IMO, the only chances we have of getting a working Google+ installed are 1) if the phone is rooted, then we should be able to replace the Gallery app with a non-broken one, or 2) Lenovo needs to fix it. Option 2 might happen by accident if they ever decide to release Android 7.
Looks like you can only change the lock screen wallpaper to a static picture, no live wallpapers unfortunately. On other phones you can.
Also, I can install and use Google+ just fine it seems, perhaps because I installed their latest December update.

My stock launcher somehow become corrupted, every second, I get "Unfortuantely Launcher has stopped working". It was a ***** to get to the Google Play store between saying, "ok" and having the message pop again in 1 second. So I was able to get into Play store and install another Launcher that is near the original Launcher_3. However, it does not have that LockScreen Walpaper mode.
I don't know how to fix and reinstate the original launcher. Even after trashing and reinstalling it, it still doesn't work.
Any insight?

To be honest , not sure. I just kept trying normal processes for adding widgets, then choosing nova activities, and under settings there are a ton of options for apps/app mgr, I kept trying different ones and one stuck.

Thanks for this.
The only thing that worked for me (Samsung S9+, Android 8.0.0) was the Nova launcher. QuickShortcutMaker went through the motions, but didn't actually put a shortcut on the home screen.
The Nova launcher works a treat, but why do Samsung oblige me to replace their launcher within the first half hour of owning their otherwise very nice phone?
I always switch on "Do not disturb" before going to sleep, as I use my phone as an alarm clock, so need to leave it switched on, but of course don't want alerts all night. As you can imagine, the last thing I want to be doing when I'm tired is effing around with settings, so having a shortcut to DND is essential.
The other shortcut I created was to the "Change Home" setting so I can easily switch back and forth between Nova and the "Samsung Experience" whenever I want. And you know something's going to be dodgy when they call it the "Something-or-other Experience"
Grrrrrrrrrrrr!!
