This is going to sound trivial to a lot of you, but i really don't like the Now search widget parked on each of my desktops. On the Now screen, it's fine, but I like seeing my home screen wallpaper.
In KitKat, there used to be a setting to remove this from other screens, but I can't seem to find it in Lollipop. Anyone know if I'm missing it somewhere, or is this one of those things we have to wait for in the next update?
Did you look in google settings? I'm pretty sure its there.

They might have removed it, not sure. But since Xposed isn't available on Lollipop right now, you have to completely disable google now or use a custom launcher.

For the record, I never used Xposed on KitKat. All I know was that I was able to remove the widget from the center and right home pages, either through a drag and delete or through a setting on the phone. I've dug through all the settings and can't seem to find it. Maybe I'll check my wife's phone later, since she hasn't installed the update on hers yet.

You can use nova launcher and use the "OK Google" command on any screen with out having the search bar/google now. I use that.

Yeah, this method works well & the bonus is a nice launcher too. OK Google from any screen is nice.

I tried searching for this and didn't find it, and I'm really curious about it.
Is it possible for the swipe left to google now (which looks incredibly smooth in the KitKat videos) to be implemented into launchers such as nova and apex? Or is that going to be a stock launcher only thing?
Just to clarify, I'm asking if a future version of Nova/apex will be able to copycat this design, not just implement another gesture that opens the google now app. The beauty of these launchers now is that they appear very similar to aosp, but they have many more features. Will that no longer be possible after this change?
Nova (paid) already has gestures that you can set to launch any app. There are 9 gestures although swipe left isn't one of them - not that it matters

Right, I guess that is one option, but it is more jarring to switch to a totally different app than the swipe gesture that it looks like KItKat has. That seem so fluid, almost like it's just another home screen.

From what I was reading, I believe that in 4.4 it actually IS another screen. I mean it's not just that the app is hidden in the background and uncovered by a gesture, it is an option to have google now to take up a page in the layout.

Nova right now cant do anything like the google launcher for kk. When you swipe right there is an actual google now home page.

It sure is first you've got too activate Google now its in the Google search settings somewhere

i really hope that nova will implement this and all the other cool stuff from the new kk launcher... something like a more customizable stock launcher
The google launcher is basically an extension of the Google search app. Kind of like Facebook home. I doubt nova will be able to integrate this unless the build it themselves into nova. http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2013...e-kitkats-primary-interface-is-google-search/

I suppose an app like GMD gestures could help you achieve the same effect

I think it would be cool if you can swipe left to any app of your choice, even if the app has to go on pause.

Remove what? The launcher? You can just install Apex launcher and use that instead if you wanted. If you really wanted to remove it you will need to uninstall it through titanium backup, but I wouldn't recommend that.

do you know how I can get rid of the Google Search bar in the standard launcher?

You can't. Google Search is sort of the launcher itself, notice that you can't disable it. The "Launcher" is just an addon for Google Search and required it to work.

Okay, I just wasn't sure I had understood that correctly when I read it earlier today. I'll see if i can live with it or I'll go back to Nova. Thanks!
I suggest just use a custom launcher, you can always access Google Now by swiping up from the Home button.
Did Verizon disable this for some reason? Or did HTC? When I open the Google Search app (where you can usually say "Ok Google" to jump into voice commands), the settings say it's enabled, however it doesn't say "ok google" next to the microphone icon in the search bar, like it usually does
It's especially weird because I vaguely remember using the Ok Google a few days after I got it, but I could be mistaken (quite often this is the case)
No matter how loud I've screamed at it, it's not working. Anybody else having this?
Lol. The m8 isn't "always listening"

Ok Google works with this phone. There is a setting that enables hot word detection in Google now, check there.

And I already have it on in the settings, but it's not working.
Oh and also when I installed the Google now launcher to see if it would work on the home screen there, it didn't.

Is your app out of date perhaps? It works fine for me, but it is limited to the Google Now app. I can't do it on the homescreen, but it works perfectly fine from the Google Now app (swipe up from home).
If you are totally up to date, maybe try going with a factory reset.

actually, this is how it works for me as well. I was hoping to get it from the home screen but swiping up is ok...not totally hands free but close.

If you want it on the homescreen, you'll have to sideload the Google Now Launcher APK and use that instead of BlinkFeed. You do lose access to HTC's widgets, but other than that there's not much difference.
If you want to do that, here's the XDA thread to get the APK:

Now Launcher's folders are a white circle background with the "stack" icon effect. You can simulate this in Nova and see how you like it before installing.
Nova Settings > Folders > Background > White Circle
Nova Settings > Folders > Style > Stack

Hi guys,
do you know how to turn off this shortcut?
I am not sure if it comes with Nova Launcher, or something else, but I've searched through Google settings & Nova Launcher settings and couldn't find that
Any ideas? It's totally useless for me, but often open google when I doesn't need that.
Screenshot it attachment.

Gravitybox lets you disable it
I have Paranoid Android installed, not all functions in GravityBox work for me.
But just to check it - which one and where, because I've also looked there...

Wondering if someone can please help me to remove this circle area. I don't really want that on home screen. I could rather use widget.
It is not possible without root or another launcher.

Yes you can, this has been posted and explained here before not too long ago. You need to be rooted and if I'm correct use the xposed framework

Exactly , I was about to post that screenshot to ask lol. Just received 7 pro a hour ago and was setting it up. Thanks bud.
As an alternative, you can just set up another home screen without At A Glance.
Lawnchair or nova your best bet
I used Niagara for a couple of days and paid for the full version this morning. Love the 'empty' screen!
Please tell me how to remove this information from the locked screen? a flashlight also appears instead of the date ((very annoying. There are no lock screen settings in AOSP.

Are you using a Pixel 7?
Your best bet for fixing the flashlight issue is to probably install a Pixel Launcher, stock or modded and customize your At A Glance settings. As for the lock screen weather, not so sure you can turn that one off.

Unfortunately, I am not sure how to remove the date. My apologies there.

It was the same on my 4XL. It's nuts that they put that on the homescreen. Every morning when I turn the phone on, I have to swipe left to get to the homescreen I want to use. I don't want to root, or change the launcher. Back in the day, I was able to choose the homescreen page I wanted.
