Hi everyone,
sorry for my bad english!
so, i've rooted my htc explorer following the tutorial here in the forum, but the problems started when i did the installation of the JaggyRom!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=24242126&postcount=948
i followed all the steps, but at step 2 i had some problems, i mean:
-i have put all the folders on my pc before delete everything from the SD card
-i've resized on 2 partitions: fat32 (500mb) ext4(1,38mb)
then i've finished all the step successfully.
but the problem now is: why i've lost all my data on the internal memory?
how can i restore all my phone numbers, apps, etc???

In step 5 you did a factory reset which deletes everything. You cannot get anything back unless you made a backup (or synced with your Google account..

hi, just for your sake, i shall explain what happens in step 2 and step 4. in most phones, the SD card contains media data, extra data that is not usually needed in most cases, and app info (if you moved apps to sd card). do note however, that all data in the internal memory is not moved to your computer in step 2. it remains in the phone.
step 4 is factory reset, which basically deletes everything in the internal memory apart from the ROM itself. user data and apps are stored in the internal memory. with regards to your phone numbers, by right, you should have saved them in google contacts, so when you log in to google accounts, you should get them back. for your apps, so sorry, but they're all gone. a way to not lose your apps when you flash a new rom would be to download Titanium backup from the app store. use it to back up all your apps to your SD card, and restore them from there after you flash from another rom. you will have to re sign in to most of your accounts though.
hope this helps
hmmm...right...
now i've another question..
if i want to reinstall jaggyrom how can i do?
how can i uninstall it? because i want to resize the 2 parts of the sd in a different size and also because i've probably deleted some important files...

Factory reset and format all partitions, then do the installation.

I am using Android phone for first time, It's a HTC Desire (unrooted), I have a 4GB memory card installed in it with lots of apps and stuff on SD card. Now I want to root my device and bought a new 16GB card. I want to transfer all my data from this 4 GB card to new one, and also want to partition it for rooting. what is the easiest way to do transfer all my data / sms / contacts / everything else to my new card. and my contacts are mess, they were saved on phone not syncd with gmail. I saved them as cvs file and uploaded them on gmail but now every contact is double. alot of crap going on in my phone. anyways want to fix all of it and install my new card and root my device with lee droid rom. can anyone help ?
Guys Sorry if this question have been asked before, I tried to search but couldn't find the answer.
First root your device and install titanium backup and backup all your apps and data. After this copy all the contents of your card onto hard drive. ( take special care that you get the folder named TitaniumBackup, it has all your app and data for restoring)
Then partition your card according to your requirements by any of the methods recommended( i used amon ra recovery) and flash your rom and setup your accounts and all. After all this you can just copy back the contents from your old card onto new one and install titanium backup and restore all your apps and data with it.
As for the doubles in your contacts. log into google contacts and it lets you remove 'doubles' pretty easy.
hope this helps.
thanks man, so rooting doesn't remove my apps / data from device ? sorry i m noob in android world.
Edit. Did it .. thanks
Do you need to back up apps found in link2sd with titanium backup if you want to restore it after flashing a new rom?? I mean its already in the sd card so do i need to back it up? Any help would be appreciated!!
Yes, you still need to back up your apps. The files in the 2nd partition will probably get wiped if you flash your phone and the links on the internal memory will definitely get wiped.
Easy steps:
backup your apps & data with titanium
flash and install new ROM
[preferably] change setting so that all apps are installed to internal memory
install link2sd and install script. Reboot.
restore apps from Titanium. Note: if you run out of internal memory while Titanium is reinstalling all your old apps, it will proceed to install the remaining apps on your SD using a2sd.

Another reason to do it via backup is that if you're using link2sd's dalvik-cache linking, the optimized dalvik may not match the new ROM. For example, I'm not sure I would wouldn't want to take optimized dalvik generated on a JIT-enabled 2.1 and run it on a 2.2.1 system or vice versa.

What do you mean by "install script" in the 4th step ? Titanium Backup's Backup / Restore is so confusing with Link2SD
Thanks

Haha yeah it's been almost 5 years
Anyway I have resolved the "Link2SD +TB" backup and restore issue.
Thanks for taking your time to reply.Cheers!!
gingerbread seems to be difficult to root. i have been following the instructions on this page http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1255214 and using all the links provided there which also takes me to another cool site called theUnlockr. following those directions as well.
i do have the abd drivers installed, the tegra usb drivers installed and the cwm on the phone and the zip file stored on the sd.
on to my questions.
first set of directions have me just installing the zip from sd, another site has me wiping data and cache. which is correct?
next if i back up my current stock gingerbread rom (nandroid) and it is on the sd card will it not be removed with the wipe if wiping is the correct option? Ok lets say a wipe does not remove the backup, can i move it to my computer and if i need it copy it back to the cwm backup folder?
sure look forward to the replies.
thanx gene

Hey Gene! To answer your questions:
1. I'd try it without wiping first and if that works then you're lucky and don't need to wipe.
2. When you do a Nandroid it saves it to the MicroSD and so wiping will NOT delete it. If you want to be on the safe side though, feel free to copy (don't remove it, just copy it) the entire backup folder inside the nandroid folder from the sd to the computer. When you need to put it back on the phone simply replace the backup folder again by copying it back.
Good luck!

hey Dave thanx for the advice i do have a few more questions but first i want to say i'm a member of your humble site. love the new social networking thingy. Well new to me anyway. I see the post that started it all opened about 4 months ago.
i don't have an external sd card. i was assuming (that can get you burnt) the the phones sd card would be untouched. seems kinda strange to have that part affected by an ota update and the like. i know when i got the phone i had to wait for the update and when it came i installed but don't remember if there was a wipe or not. personally i think it should. clean installs always work better you ask me. but if it did wipe i don't recall losing my apps and such.
but just so i got this straight, the phone has two partitions. one where the os is installed along with all them nasty bloatware things t-mobile installed along with what google installs, and then the other partition is the mmt/sd_card? that is where astro file manager keeps all of its back ups. last there is a slot for another sd card which is read as what appears to me mass storage. is it the last card i need to have in order to not lose data or is the mmt/sd_card sufficient?
I guess the worst case is i have to re install all my apps, but please if you don't tell me anything else tell me that clockworkMod is unaffected.
thanx for your time i'll see ya at the unlockr.
Hi ...
Still I am a new to Android, so want to know how to use External SD card memory as internal memory (fed up with low memory).
I can partition the SD card using Mini Tool Partition Wizard into Primary and Ext3 and Ext4.
But my question is how to install Custom Rome and whether it is will ask me where to install the Cust. ROM OR it will pick Ext3/4 automatically OR anything else.
Plz help step by step.

I want to tell you to Google first, because that's what I did. But here's a guide anyways.
1) root your phone
2) install a custom recovery (such as clockworkmod, 4ext) depends on phone
3) if you want to keep all your data when you you install (flash) a ROM, use titanium backup pro to backup apps, sms, mms, etc.
4) download ROM, boot into recovery, make a full NANDROID backup (in case anything goes wrong), factory reset, then flash the ROM, which should be a .zip file
5) after reboot, let ROM settle, set things up like gapps, sync contacts, etc.
6) install link2sd. It should detect a 2nd partition and it should ask you what file format is that 2nd partition. Select ext3 or ext4 or whatever you chose and reboot.
7) restore apps and use link2sd to link them to sd card! You can make it to link2sd automatically links new apps installed, check around the settings

Thanks Br.
I Will try the same way.
But can you also tell me how to backup selective Apps at once in Titanium backup ?
I tried it takes all apps OR one by one.
For e.g. I want to backup 25 out of 32. So, is there any way to select 25 of my choice and then start backup ?
Just go to batch and before u select all apps just select the ones u want! It shows all apps with a tick around them!

Just be carefull while updating the systems app and data...
User/custom should be fine..
SOLVED - I just reinstalled all the APK, automatically linking them on the SD card. The data was still on the EXT4 partition, so everything was found by the apps.
--------------
Hi,
Link2SD was working really nice, until randomly, I kept getting errors saying it cannot links the apps...
So I've fulled backed up my EXT4 partition on my computer (Just drag and dropped the folders. Not sure if this was correct), powered off the phone, reformetted the EXT4 partition with GParted, copied the files back in with Linux, put the SD card back in the phone, power it ON;
But now, Link2SD does not detect the apps that I've copied back on the card - although it can link the apps again.
The apps that were restored simply doesn't appear anywhere (But are on the partition).
Is there any way I can restore the full EXT4 backup I've took ?

Your solution didn't work for me because it just gave an error whenever I tried to reinstall one of the previously linked apps. Likely because of the excess files leftover from the original because it would let me install new apps but not the missing ones. I tried to delete some files manually for an app or two, but that didn't work either. I found an easy solution though that works.
SOLUTION:
Just open Link2SD. Click the top left corner for the menu. Then click on "Clean up the 2nd partition". When I did it said it needed to delete 104 unused files, so I said ok. Afterwards, actually all but 2(out of 32) of my apps were restored with data automatically and those two I just restored from Titanium Backup.
NOTE FOR ANYONE TRYING THIS:
If it's still not working after that, then just try to reboot and see if they reappear. If you do lose some apps, at least you can reinstall or restore them from a backup after that. Again I only lost 2, but the other 30 missing linked apps were restored.
