I used Titanium Pro to back up all the apps and bloatware on my G2X. When I try to restore any of the ones I have un-installed the restore option is not there. I think it may have something to do with the external - internal sd card. I also keep loosing the icons to some of my apps (the ones on sd) inside the folder on my home screen. How do I restore these apps that I have backed up??
Ps I have used titanium many times on my rooted cliq with no problems.
my backups are on the internal sd.i've restored a few times with no problem i haven't updated mine though. using an older apk. i've read people are having issues here and there with titanium. so i'm sticking with my old version.

IMHO Titanium Backup has always been great with user apks, but very lacking with system apks. I'm not sure if it's trying to actually "install" system apks or what, but I've never had any luck with it.
Anyway, you should be able to just push the apks back to your /system/app/ from one of the roms or backups you can find here.
Have you checked the path to the folder that your backups are in with TB?
There is an option to change it in settings. You may have to reboot after changing it.
gonna give that a shot. Thanks.
Having trouble with my Titanium Backup. I backed up all my user apps + data, wiped and installed a new ROM. After getting it back up w/ new ROM, market, install titanium (w/ pro key) and go to restore apps. None of my backups show up. Batch > "Restore missing apps with data", shows 0 apps. When I go Preferences > Backup folder location it shows the folder (mnt/sdcard/TitaniumBackup) with all my backups it in, even says "This folder contains 62 backups".
Any help on how to restore these would be greatly appreciated.

On the folder location screen choose detect and choose whole phone. It will search for the directory your backups are in. If that doesn't work then i'm guessing you may have formatted the location where your backups existed.
Try this..

What happens when you install CM7 is that the sdcard directory now points to your external sd card rather then the internal that comes with the phone.
the internal is now at /mnt/emmc
Get root explorer and you will see what I'm talking about.
Once you have root explorer just copy the titanium backup folder from /mnt/emmc to /sdcard and you should be able to restore all user apps with data... however DO NOT restore system data from stock to CM7... big headaches.
Hope this helps!

hello guys, i have 1 problem that i was ignoring for too long, anyways, when i use cwm backup, it backups evrything, including sd ext , now when i restore, it restore evrything,
BUUUT , my applications are not working, i mean, they are there, i can see them, they take memory but cant use them, applications from sd ext,
i was using s2e .
as u can see on picture, they are grey, and have some sd mark near them, i am so noob
its pretty urgent, if anyone know what to do say, or i just flash over rom lol, i hate doing nan backup and restore when have a2sd s2e or ungaze (((((
figured that , since my dalvik is on internal and app data on sd ext , my system afther restore doesnt want to mount sd ext partition. what could be problem?
anyone???? formated sd card again, and made new partition again, restored system again , but it wont restore sd ext part, and cant mount sd ext afther i reboot, hwat can cause that problem guys??

I installed the Cyanogenmod A2SD, before of it I installed the script for him, then I marked Apps are on the SD> Dalvik Cash on SD-EXT> Move in A2SD and when everything is almost A2SD system should I reboot. Then I installed the applications and restore everything works fine.
i am on cm mod ofc, for s2e , just problem is, i keep dalvik on intenral, app on sd ext, when i go nandroid restore, sd ext partition wont mount anymore.
zimis, that is same a2sd as for normal roms?

I don't know. I use A2SD version 1.0.
I don't get it:
Is there a solution to the problem? Because I just ran into it as well which is pretty annoying because it's my girlfriends phone and guess what: She hates it when I fiddle with it to "make it better" ending up with a dead phone! :/
Question:
What is the solution to restore nandroid backup when using s2e, it get's fully restored w/o errors but after reboot most apps are "gone" even Root is gone. When I try to install an app it says: You replace an app. So thats not working either...

What's happening here is that the symlink of the apps is gone.
The files are still present, but the system doesn't recognize them as "apps".
Idk how to solve these when using s2e, but link2sd has an option which allows restoring symlinks.

No clue about the root part though.
Did u try s2e patch by pavel...i think that may solve the problem..i hope so..

Since i didn't really find a solution I had to start from scratch and this time I used your great Tutorial about Link2SD a MUCH better solution than S2E.
BUT: I moved nearly everything exept the Holo Launcher to SD and still I only got 50 MB on data. I just don't understand... shouldn't it be nearly 140 MB or so? I did move everything (dalvik as well).
What might be the problem here?
Will it work the next time I'll make a Nandroid backup?
Slightly OT:
My other problem was that I did a mistake by only backing up user app with TB, so I had to get contacts and such from the backup which worked neither with TB nor with AppExtractor so possibly the nandroid was missing the symlinks already. So the long way was to extract files by hand and move it back to the new system. Than I had to start again from scratch because when I moved Swype to System something went so terribly wrong that it threw an error so often, I couldn't do anything to remove files. I tried fixing it by "Fix Permissions" but that made it worse and all the symlinked apps got me errors! It was a terrible long night.
@cosmickamal:
I couldn't because I could neither open s2e nor could I install s2e again because it gave me a "Do you want to replace the existing one?" and I still couldn't fire up s2e.
Well I hope this is fixed.
What I learned:
Do not combine S2E with Nandroid backups and ALWAYS backup EVERYTHING with TB, too. Just in case!
Thanks for your help.

Why do you NEED so mich mem free? Link2sd doesn't move app private data, like for eg, my custom whatsapp has 20mb data which remains inside the data partition consuming space.
I have 30 mb of space left, but I can still install Ingresd oh-so-easily.
Believe me, having 140mb free system resources would be a waste in this case.
More judicious use is the existing setup.
And nandroid works, tried and tested countless times by my own self

S2e or most other memory solutions don't mess with your contacts and messages and other system data
I don't need all the memory free but if my girlfriend comes wining in a few days because it is full again - well, I try to avoid that.
And I had like 30 MB free before and that wasn't enough if a view updates were running (dunno why).
Good to know that Nandroid works now. Thank you.
So just the other night I flashed Synergy r66 on my phone and I have already done this once before but still followed the steps provided. After it loaded once, I opened up Titanium Backup to get my apps back and I realized that the backup I created was gone. It had been deleted by something. I then check my rom manager app which not to my surprise, had its backup deleted as well. I am entirely confused on why this would happen. I am also having problems viewing my extsdcard in any application. It shows up under storage in the settings but when I try and make the backup directory on my ext card, it doesn't show the folder for it.

What recovery are you using and are you sure you didn't tell it to format your sd card.
If you connect to your pc can you see it?
Sorry, its a bit of a novel, but wanted to give as much detail as possible.
I have a rooted LG P500 running cm7, with a partitioned SD card.
Today the apps on the SD card have stopped showing. The only thing I have done different today is uninstall update on play store as I was having some issues with it, I believe the apps were briefly there after this, and also it has now updated itself from market back to play store and things are still wrong, so I don't think this is the issue.
They are not showing at all in the app drawer, the ones I have shortcuts to in that bit down the bottom (don't know what its called sorry) have a green and white square android icon, and do nothing if touched. If I go into "settings", "applications", "storage use", then "SD card", it accurately shows the amount of storage I have left on the SD card, so its not like its not picking it up at all, but everything in the list that is on the SD card has a grey icon by it instead of the proper picture. Actually scrolling through the list right now, I can see the majority have the grey icon, but there is a couple with their normal icon. Some of those with the normal icon show up in my app drawer, and some don't, so its actually affecting the apps to varying degrees rather than them all not working.
If I try move anything new to the SD card it says "failed to move application"
If I go into "my apps" on play store, it is impossible to compare them all, but at least some are missing.
I have tryed each of the following several times:
Reboot
Unmount and remount SD card
Reinsert battery
The latest time I rebooted I noticed that now although all the apps are not loading still, some of the ones that did are different ones to last time.
Any ideas?
Thanks
The next thing I have tryed is I formatted the FAT32 partition and put on a back up of the SD card I made a couple of weeks ago, it made no difference.
I would like to format both the FAT32 and EXT2 partitions and repartition and start completely over again, but not sure how to do this, can't see the EXT2 partition in easeus.
ETA : I managed to get rid of the partion, format the whole card to fat32 then partition again, then put my SD card back up from a couple of weeks ago back on, and still the same problem! I am out of ideas, any help would be greatly appreciated.

what happens when you install a new app? Does it show up in app drawer? Also did you have any backup of the apps using Titanium backup?
Try some other application.. a2sd, s2e, link2sd.
Also make a swap partition.
It won't let me install any new apps, I have backups but it won't let me create anymore, it lets me restore some, but not all.
What I did with the sd card last night really screwed things up, I ended up having to go back to a nandroid. File manager is saying the sd card is empty, and I am having trouble using usb storage connected to computer, so I think I have really stuffed things.
I am going to try any ideas including the above on tonight, but if I can't fix I might just unroot, factory reset and sell the phone, go back to a text and call cheapy, i've had a lot of problems with this, although all others I have been able to fix, but most seem to come down to the fact i'm pushing apps to sd because of low internal storage, might be better off waiting to get android until I can afford a better phone.
Anyhow, i'm willing to spend another night trying to fix this, so any ideas appreaciated. Thanks
ETA:
Update, I got USB storage turned on, my computer says sd is corrupted or unreadable. Is this fixable? Thanks
Another update, when I turned off USB storage my phone also told me the card was corrupted and gave me the option to format it,, so I formatted it through the phone this time, windows is now recognising it and I am transfering back an old backup onto it, I will come back and update if it works so noone has to waste their time helping me, if I don't come back it didn't work and I will be back to try to fix the problem tonight. Thanks
Update: I am now back to a similar position as I was in at the beginning of the thread. WHen I get home I am going to reinstall the darktremor scripts as the nandroid I went to didn't have that by the looks, then hopefully once I can start utilising the EXT partition again I will be able to restore from ti backup. I'm not holding my breath though as I couldn't do this earlier on.
I know I said I wouldn't be doing it till tonight but I really wanted to get this fixed so I have been messing around with it all morning. Had all kinds of problems, but have finally got sd card partitioned, not corrupted, and both partitions recognised as they should be. My apps are still not there, however play store is letting me install now, so I am redownloading them. Titanium back up is saying there is no backups of anything, and it can't find any profiles, however as I am redownloading apps all the data that should be there is there, so yay. I will sit down tonight and spend alot of time redownloading everything, then I will make new backup with titanium. I just hope once I have done it all the apps stay there this time LOL. Thanks for the help, I will be back if it doesn't all go as planned.
ETA: Never mind I need help again already. After redownloading just a couple of apps I decided to check that ti backup would do a backup, it won't do even a single backup because of unsufficient storage space, however I have 7.4gb free on sd, 125mb free on internal and 259mb on sd-ext, why isn't there enough room?
If it helps, on my SD card there is a folder called "backups", with a folder called "apps" in it which is full of .apk file from apps i've download, and I also have a "Titanium backup" folder with properties and GZ files in it. I'm definitely not going to do anymore until tonight as I have no idea what to do now that ti backup won't restore or backup.
That backup folder is of astro file manager backup. Titanium backup is always buggy specially after you "patch it".
Best option. Delete all partitions.. format (not quick) your sdcard if possible from pc. Reflash the current rom ( make sms call bookmark and all sort of backup).. do complete wipe. Start from beginning. Fresh phone would do good!! Try some other apps too.. link2sd and s2e are good!!
Edit: Dont move ti backup to sd.. let it be in internal memory!!
had happened to me once. The SD ext becomes corrupted if my mistake the a2sd script gets deleted. u have to then reflash ur rom and script to get it working again. b4 that wipe ur SD card and partition it again. And use gobackup to backup and restore apps. it's simple and stable.

Thanks, as in my last post I did eventually get the sd card working after a few formats and repartitioning, I was having trouble with titanium backup no recognising any backups, but as I was reinstalling things that suddenly fixed itself (no idea why) so I was able to restore my backups.
The a2sd script did get deleted, but not until after I was already having problems and had to go back to a nandroid, it was the nandroid I took before originally partitioning the card so the script wasn't there, which probably didn't help things!
My ti backup is on SD, so I will move it back to the phone thanks.
Alls well that ends well, but got stressful there for a while! Had a few issues before, but none that took as long to solve as this one. I am on the lookout for a bargain on a phone that has bigger internal memory, but glad to get this working again in the meantime. Thanks everyone.
ETA: Also I did solve the problem with titanium backup saying there was no room to backup, so everything is working perfectly now. Unfortunately I can't for the life of me remember how I did it, but if I do I will come back here and post it in case anyone else has the same problem in the future.

I'm happy that u solved ur prob. cheers
As the tilte is saying, whenever there's less than 100 mb of internal storgare the performance just dies. Even scrolling is laggy. I've used multiple ROMs (CM 11, 10.1, 9/SlimKat/SlimSaber/BeanStalk) but no luck. I've also used Greenify and it hasn't helped. I only install the apps I really need : Facebook, Facebook Messenger, Shazam, Hangouts, Youtube, Viber. That's it ! I even uninstall wallpapers and ringtones, plus all the apps that could be moved to the SD card are moved.
Does anyone have any suggestions ? Maybe increasing the internal storage on KitKat ? Or are there any tweaks I'm not aware of ?
Thanks in advance.
First backup your SD card. And then create external partition type ext4, using TWRP recovery and only TWRP (If you use any other tools, you will not be able to backup sd-ext using TWRP, and this is from my experience).
Next, get Link2SD app, and create mount scripts, reboot, set Auto linking checked and (also App, Library, and Dalvik checked). And link App, Library, and Dalvik files to sd-ext. If you paid for Link2SD+, you will be able to link internal data too. A warning though, keep important apps that starts up with android on internal memory such as launchers to prevent lag. Depending on what class your SD card, you might not notice any lag at all. I still have the 16GB that came with the phone, and it is not really fast, it is laggy but not much.
I know I will be lashed for saying this, but get Lucky Patcher (use it for legal stuff only, lol) and ODEX all your system files. Custom roms are unoptimized due to the need to have resource hooks and hacking the system files or debugging them. Creating Optimized dexs, they will occupy less memory and become faster. You will notice a significant improvement in speed.
Currently, I have SlimKat 4.4.4, 2.5GB sd-ext ext4 partition (~1.5GB used) and have 204MB free on internal. And around 143-145 apps installed ranging from few hundreds of KBs to tens of MBs. And the system is snappy.
Another warning if you use Titanium Backup, if you batch restore many apps at once, Link2SD might not be able to catch up linking apps as soon as Titanium Backup finish restoring the apps with data, causing memory go low or Titanium Backup freeze. A solution to this, only restore chunks of 10 or 15 apps at once, and wait till Link2SD done linking all of the apps.
After you are satisfied with the results, go to TWRP and backup EVERYTHING including sd-ext. EXCEPT "EFS" partition (if it does show up), which you might get bad IMEI number if you restore EFS again. You can enable compression to the backup, which helpfully compressed the ~2300MB files to ~1300MB for me.
Good luck. :good:
Thanks mate ! Gonna try ASAP !

First, thanks for writing this. Now, just a quick question, did you have had problems with apps disappearing after a update?
This begin happening like a month or so ago. After an app auto-update, it disappear, and I have to recreate the mount script on Link2SD and reboot for it to appear again. Now I disable auto-update, android only notify me of updates. Then I remove the links of the app to update on Link2SD, then update the app, and then I create the links again.
I have my device set up exactly how I like it, but I'm thinking about erasing my phone and starting up again.

I believe this happened to me long time ago when I used an older version of Link2SD. The newer version promised that it fixed Apps disappearing after booting. But, if that happens to you, you can fix this easily by "Relink all app files" from Link2SD to find any unlinked apps that are supposed to be linked and then reboot or soft reboot from Link2SD. Or you can "Clear 2nd Partition" and/or Dalvik cache to delete the apps that disappeared and reinstall them again. But an answer to your question, I didn't have any apps disappear on me when I started clean.
Also, for anyone deciding on ODEXing system files. Choose a ROM that have enough free space in system partition to do so. Some roms have less than 8MB in system partition (CM11!) which can cause problems when doing so. SlimKat 4.4.4 is really slim, you have over 40MB free in system partition. If you want to keep the ROM you are using, you can free more space in system partition by converting the Keyboard app to a user app, that is another 40MBs free (and if you did that, you have to reselect the Keyboard from Language input in settings, by un-ticking/re-ticking the checkbox, also don't link the Keyboard app to 2nd partition, it can cause lag). I noticed if you have less than 5MB in system partition, the performance of the phone suffers greatly.
From using Link2SD to view storage information, you will notice that Data partition and Cache partition are the same (I could be wrong here, but that what it seems to be). So it is important to have more free space in the Data partition.
