Re: Ics leak tweeks - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

Re: Ics leak tweeks
TO SPEED UP PHONE AND BOOST PERFORMANCE. On the new ics leak.
You must be rooted to do some of these tweeks..
1. Use titanium backup or the app of your choice to freeze or uninstall unwanted or misbehaving apps. You can find a list of apps that come preinstalled (bloatware) that is known to be safe to freeze or uninstall by searching the dev section.
2. Uninstall any and all task killers or task managers. After research I find they do more harm and slow down performance and kill battery life than they help. By freezing or uninstalling misbehaving apps in step one you don't have to worry about apps running in the background eating up your data. And besides ics has a really nice data manager built in.
3. Install apex launcher from the market. I can't explain why but using this launcher with ics instead of the stock tw launcher sped my phone up considerably and totally eliminated that little bit of lag that was in it when exiting apps and scrolling screens. Not to mention apex has a lot of freeking really cool features you can't do with the stock tw launcher. Like add another shortcut icon on the dock bar and the ability to scroll 5 dock bars full of shortcuts you can add. And the home screen allows for another whole row of icons and much much more. But best of it made my phone ALOT FREAKIN FASTER....
BATTERY DRAIN ISSUES.
I found going from gingerbread to ics was a bigger strain on my battery a way bigger strain. So far this trick has helped a lot but I'm still looking for other ways to go with this to improve it even more. So if you have any tricks up your sleeve feel free to post please. So here is what I've found so far...
I used rom manager from the market but I'm sure there are other free apps that can do this again far as I know you need to be rooted to do this...
1. Wipe battery stats. After installing any new rom or even updating an existing you should always wipe battery stats. This helped my phone tremendousley.
2. Find a app that monitors your battery stats. I use badass battery monitory. I don't like the name but it will tell you which apps are draining your battery and allow you to make necasarry changes. There is a free version on the market but I'm using the paid one.
I posted this info I've learned to maybe help someone else. It helped my phone a bunch but each phone is different and what works for one may not for another so I make no guarantees. For info on rooting see the link at the beginning of this thread it worked for me. Anyone that has learned other tweaks please post. And if this is in the wrong section I'm sorry. I just started using the app and not my pc to access xda and I'm trying to figure the app out still which is laid out weird and the search option just plain sux...

Swipepad and pageonce in the market

So usually I get really good battery life with MIUI rom I think is the best compare to CM and any sense rom in battery life and I use this 2 apps, well pageonce(bank accounts and bills) I barely start using it cause when it came out for android it look bad compare to my BB pageonce app and swipe pad I really like it cause is like an extra launcher in any app which make app switching faster and stuff, you guys should try them, anyways my battery was really bad today and it doesn't look like they killing my battery but is draining faster then normal and those are the only apps that I never had in MIUI rom, any ideas?

Go to settings - check the battery usage per app.
(I am the android developer of Pageonce...)
+1 for system panel app, it does a great job monitoring everything going on and it also has a nice installer feature.

V6 Supercharger. This will make your SK4G smoother and get rid of launcher redraws!

Saw this while reading my rss feeds and decided to give it a try. Overall the sidekick was slow when switching between apps and when going back to home screen(screen takes time to redraw-icons and widgets)
This script was pretty easy to do/apply and is supposed to work on stock and custom roms. Obviously its working for me on ayoteddys gingerclone with root.
I suggest you all try this out. Multitasking has become more satisfying.

Yeah, the instructions are very thorough and it's not complicated, only thing is in script manager (free) it's hard to see the full menu and when you touch to scroll it inputs characters but all that takes is a little deleting

Lock screen lag still seems to be there for me a bit, better than it was for sure but I have only tried one setting which I posted earlier, there are a ton of tweaks and hopefully over the next few days we can figure out the best setup for our device. Landscape to portrait is smooth as butter for me

I followed this visual step-by-step tutorial http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1126940. For speed I chose 1 (fast). Then I chose #2, aggressive 1. Then I reboot. When I check if the script is working it prompts me to choose all the stuff again rather than showing the screen as shown on Step 8. When I repeat the same process anyway the current and previous minfrees are different, Current being higher.
Are the settings sticking after reboot? Did I do something wrong? Because when I switch orientation in GoLauncher EX widgets still refresh at the same speed before applying the script.
I've noticed a huge change in lack of lag after running this on aggressive 1 (option 2) there's barely any lag between exiting apps and returning to home now or switching between them its soooo nice hehe
Sent from my SGH-T839 using XDA App
So far I'm happy with Agressive 1. There's still that slight lag on the lock screen, and the Jump Menu is still laggy, but it's definitely a big improvement over the pre-supercharged performance.

This is a low risk script, you have more of a chance of screwing things up from rooting/flashing roms and the dev is trusted. Just make sure you read instructions and are confident when taking the steps and you will be fine. I've only tried one setting "aggressive 1" but so far so good and I will be testing another later and reporting differences.
Dunno what 3g turbocharger is, I might give it a shot but if it has to do with internet connection I'm in a wifi or 4g zone 99% of the time so a 3g booster wouldn't do anything for me.

I didn't use the visual tutorial, but it sounds like you used the same method I did. You should DEFINITELY notice a difference so it sounds like it's maybe it didn't work. I am on gingerclone with launcherpro so it could possibly be a golauncher issue, is anyone else running with golauncher?

I just tried golauncher and it seems to be working just as fast as adw and launcher pro when using this script. Do u have that task manager widget that comes with golauncher? try taking that off.
What about returning to home screen after running a couple of app... does your go laincher still take time to load?
Performance should be noticeable after running script.

I will try uninstalling the Go task widget. Returning to the homescreen has always been fast ever since running the script. So that I did notice.
As for the minfree keeping their settings after reboot, I ran that 99-whatever.sh file as a script, found in root-data, and ran as root and boot as troubleshooted in the help html file in the sd root. But I took that off and will unSuperCharge and SuperCharge again just to start clean.
EDIT: Btw, having task managers will interfere with the script, that's you asked about the Go Launcher task manager, right? If so, I'm using ZD Box, which is a multi-feature app, such as task killer, password protection, 3G monitor, battery status, and more. Will having this installed interfere much with the script?

[Q] Slow and laggy Nexus S HELP

Hi,
I use the newest AOSP+ and Glados 2.7 kernel on my Nexus S. I experience a lot of lags while opening apps. I tap on the icon, the app launches and I wait 1-4 seconds (depending on the app) then the content is loaded. No matter if it is SMS app, Call logs, Facebook, even Market or Appbrain. Usually after the reboot things go well for a while. But then everything slow down. Even the apps as native Phone app in ICS is very very slow while opening even though it is not killed. I think it is something with RAM, right? I used to have HTC Desire (the first model) and my Nexus is at the same speed!!! It is not right!
Can you help me with this? Where is the problem?
Wipe and reflash. Try a different kernel. Make sure its supported for the nexxxy

Ok, I did a full wipe, reflashed and got back all the apps using Titanium Backup. I get the same problem again. Before I installed all the apps, phone was really much faster. I do not know where is the problem.
What causes app opening lags? Shall I somehow track RAM to find out? Or what? Can some widgets on homescreens cause lags? Or Go Launcher?
I am really desperate. I use just stable ROM and kernels and my phone is still lagy as I would have two years old smartphone (
How mamy apps do you have on the phone?

I have 82 apps. I also tried it as the new setup for the first time I flashed this ROM. I experienced the same problem when I had HTC Desire. Maybe there is an app causing this. Is it processor or RAM or what?
This is weird. I never had this problem. Maybe try unrooting and flashing back to stock. Then updating the the official 2.3.6 which will be avail once u flash back to stock. See if the stock rom is slow as well

I have experienced the same that you have, with my Nexus becoming slow and laggy. I use an MIUI rom though. I mostly experience this when my RAM is full or close to full. Usually, what I do is either clear my RAM by killing apps from a task manager or rebooting, and then it goes back to silky smooth for me. I'm not sure if this is the same problem that you have though.
Did you try using a task manager to clear tasks?
No. I will not use task manager on phone as Nexus S. Why shall I do this on such a device. Task managers are for slower phones. AND I read very clever article about saving battery life. You can read there that Android manage the tasks on its own much better. Task killers usually don't work as they should or as the user think they do. They will usually slow down the apps which should be loaded in RAM.
ANYWAY... I found the problem. I use NSTools and there is the feature "Deep Idle" - this feature saves battery A LOT!!! (When phone is idle 5+ hours with wi-fi, it takes only 1-2% which is great). But this causes the problem whit loading apps. So I turned it off. Now I have problem with battery life which is a little bit worse.
So now, I need better kernel and also radio (my wi-fi has very poor signal even though it is closed to the router)

[Q] Go Launcher Ex - taking up too many resources?

I'm on stock GB, rooted.
Go Ex Launcher seems to be killing my resources. Even with their nice cleanup tool, it's basically shut down my phone.
Is this just me, or are other people having this issue? Any advice or help would be appreciated. Thanks!
I'm having the same situation, except mine is rooted. I've been monitoring my phones performance avidly lately to see if there's any other services or apps that could be removed to eliminate this problem. The little bit that I could gather with my limited knowing and ability to delve into the phone more is that the whole slew of GO apps, services, & add-ons are the culprate. They take up massive amounts of memory thus hindering the devices performance. The whole series of GO apps are demanding.
For GO Launcher Ex specifically though you can increase performance by using the default UI theme. The downloaded themes use up a bit more then the default UI. Don't forget that you can reboot the GO Launcher from the options button menu. Rebooting the launcher does a great job of clearing up space.
Overall though, I think the best thing to do is to just ditch as many of the extra GO add-ons. I find them to be bloatware for the most part.
What other apps and services from GO do you have though?

Yes Go launcher is bad for Infuse , it drains battery and eats up too much memory (you can see that it is practically red in the task manager panel ) , i suggest that you dont use it , how ever there can be no harm in doing so. but then again good luck with the force closes and random reboots. alternatives are Roms with touchwiz or install widgets from market. i suggest remics ICS or AOKP

I've gone through a few launchers and finally settled on Nova. Seems to run quite well with the CM9 build since I can't remove extra screens on the stock launcher.
I have only 3 screens because I come from the days where we couldn't have resource-hogging apps due to low memory. If you could imagine trying to run Froyo or GB on something with about 1/2 the total RAM and ROM space as the LG Ally, you'll understand why.
I just got used to it being that way and I used ADW EX for the longest time until lately.

[ROM][MB1][5/28] ZERO v1.2

Completely developed on the device for the device. Not one computer was used.
IF YOUR BATTERY LIFE IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING TO YOU IN THE WORLD THIS MAY NOT BE FOR YOU!
Battery life hasn't been thoroughly tested and not expected to be great.
Welcome to ROM ZERO.
ZERO was developed for one purpose. SPEED! You will open apps, download, install apps, and browse the web faster than before. This rom is based on USABILITY SPEED and may not show in benchmarks. It's two totally different things. Battery life is not expected to be great but hasn't been tested so please Don't complain about your battery life. I would like some feedback on the battery life but as I said, don't expect much.
This is a stock rom lightly debloated with a few nice tweaks. I have added my yamato performance edition tweaks and some scripting in the frame buffer to help speed things up. This will give you higher frame rates in games and overall speed. Lean kernel is preloaded and completely over clocked including the GPU out of the box. There is no need to lkconfig. The GPU governor is also automatically set to performance mode. There are alot of adjustments made to this rom for speed. It's FAST.
SO WHAT DO WE HAVE HERE?
De-odexed system with ODEXED apps.
Lightly debloated.
Black & white toggles.
Black status bar.
4.2 keyboard.
Menu to kill.
Holo & stock TW launchers.
Adjusted Bluetooth for quicker connections
Complete rewrite of the build.prop and included all of my HWUI settings for speed and a better visual experience.
Frame buffer speed adjustments.
Full HW rendering.
GPU over-clocked.

I just posted a dropbox link in the op. See if that works better for you. The original link is working fine for me though.
I can start the hotspot from the status bar on top, but when I connect to my phone, get either a Limited Connectivity error or no connection at all. I can take some screenshots when I get home if that would help, maybe the app has an error log that I can find.
Just flashed, had no issues. Everything seems nice and smooth. Its also visually very smooth. Coming from clean ROM I would say as far as "speed" at least opening apps and such Clean ROM is faster, but Zero is very fluid. No issues with lag. I havent tested much else. So far so good though. Nice work and thanks! Its been kind of quiet on the forums since the S4 came out.
Unfortunately I found an issue this morning with some of the scripts loading. This rom is currently not running as I intended it as far as speed. The update tonight will be a huge difference in performance! Sorry about the bug.

Well it's obviously easy enough to remove the app itself but removing the tab from the settings menu isn't something I have ever dove into yet. For me it's a bit complicated and over my head right now. I'm going to have to read up on setting tabs and learn a bit more about it. Probably in version 5.0 lol.
