[Q] HellFire Sandwich vs EAGLESBLOOD ICS AOSP - T-Mobile LG G2x

Which rom is more stable atm? I know hellfire sandwich is based on cm9 source from arcee, who released his APLHA code.......apparently that alpha source code of his had fair amount of bugs (Although I am not sure how many of it is fixed/worked around in HFS, can someone compile a list of know issues for hellfire sandwich for me if that isnt too much work? )
According to EBICS, they had the rom built from aosp, isnt that supposed to be cleaner with less issues? On top of that, nvidia just released the tegra sdk i believe.....should we expect some major performance improvement/bug fixes in the near future for both of the rom?
what do you guys think?

First, nobodies going to give a list of what does and doesnt work, just read the last 5-10 pages of the thread, and the first post and youll get an idea of what does and does not work.
Second, HFS is simply a tweaked version of arcee's CM9 (with bugfixes and other things in there as well). EB-ICS is AOSP, that means it's source code is a HEAVILY modified version of stock android 4.0.4. (this does not include the things like RIL and other things that they borrowed from CM9 to get the rom working) EB-ICS may also have many of their own mods that bring alot of the customization and functionality of CM9 back, but it will not have most of the CM9 settings your used to.
Its honestly just up to opinion at this point. i cant tell you which is more stable, youll most likely have to try them out for yourself.
also, NVIDIA DID NOT RELEASE THE SOURCE CODE YET!
that was just a version for a tegra development kit, and we cannot use any part of it for our phones, because the chips are different.
Hope that helps

AWWWWWW!!!!
And thank you for your help

EaglesBlood felt like it was faster to me. I went from HFS 1.4 to the CM9 based EB to EB AOSP to HFS 1.6. I probably like EB more, but HFS has some tweaks that make it a slightly more enjoyable experience.
They're both great, though. As soon as a new build of EB is released, I'll go back to that and probably just hop back and forth between ROMs between builds.

+1 for Eaglesblood
I'm using Eaglesblood AOSP 5.5 and it is definitely more stable on my G2x than HFS 1.9 was. Hellfire Sandwich was not very responsive, and crashed and rebooted a lot (although at the time I had the old baseband). I would go with Eaglesblood hands down.

In my experience on my G2x, Eaglesblood ICS performs like ****. Hellfire Sandwich works great. EB always makes the phone unresponsive for a few minutes after I turn wireless on. I assume it's something to do with all the apps updating and syncing at once, but I never have this problem with HF. I have to reboot the phone at least once every 48 hours or the alarm clock stops working. I'll sit there and watch it pass the time it is supposed to go off and it doesn't (This has resulted in me missing an early morning class - NOT happy). Various apps crash more often on EB, and sometimes it seems as if the whole OS crashes, when the app disappears and the launcher is also gone.

My own personal experience, Hellfire anything over EGB anything. Whether ICS or GB.

From my personal experiences, I would have to suggest Temasek's GB ROM (build 135.1) for your GB Pleasures, and TonyP's ParanoidAndriod JB Flavored ICS Build 11, or Genesis ICS 8/1/12 Build. Both rock the ICS world.
I can't use any ICS build currently, as I depend on WiFi calling to be mostly stable for me, and I have found that only in the GB Roms at this time.

Best Rom out so far????

What do you think the best rom out for the G2x in your opinion is and state why
(I thought this would be a good thread to easily choose a rom without reflashing and getting different users opinions would be good too soo......)
at the moment, i'm using
[ROM] (v1.2.5) Nexus AOSP Gingerbread 2.3.4 - Faux123
&
[Kernel]CM7 [2.6.32.41] (v0.2.4) OC~1500MHz/UV/SLQB/BFQ/EXT4 [Jun-21-2011]
and it makes my phone hella leet :x (no glitches, or freeze ups or anything retarded)
the other roms were too glitchy for me so i ended up using faux's
give it a try!
All the GB Roms have issues of some sort from limitations that the dev's can't get past until they get updates from LG. I think both EaglesBlood 1.05 and Ultimate Rom are the best, just buttery smooth both of them with absolutely no issues.
I've tried them all. I keep trying the GB based roms over and over again, thinking "it's going to be better this time," because I love the way the keyboard (even swype) has the placeholder for moving the curser. But it always ends with the same issues. I MUCH prefer the camera in the froyo roms to that in the GB's. For some reason, even though benchmarks may show otherwise, the froyo roms SEEM to move faster and smoother from task to task. Perhaps the froyo roms leave me with more available ram to play with...not sure.
Anyway, the Ultimate Rom is a fantastic rom. But I prefer to use EB 1.05 with the honeycomb theme from 1.04. I just love having the blue radio and battery icons, rather than the green ones. I always end up back at the EB 1.05 rom. It's 100% stable, no reboots, no freezing or forced battery pulls, no wacky battery life issues, etc. I don't bother with overclocking anymore...I'm more into undervolting so that I can get maximum useability of the feature-set, yet still get good battery life.
I agree how eaglesblood froyo is a nice smooth fast rom with better camera and i tried all the 2.3 roms i think that Faux's AOSP rom is the top rom for g2x with 2.3
and I also agree that until 2.3 is officially we will see a huge progression in better roms im just hoping for a sense 3.0 rom personally
I have tried several ROMs on this phone and they all bring their own strengths/weaknesses. I use A2DP daily and i like the HDMI out option (use about once a week) so I landed on the GB Leak (the 2.3.4 ROMs are missing this at the time). I know it can be a bit buggy for some however I have had zero issues with it. I'm sticking with this for now until the other ROMs are fully functional or until the official release of GB comes out.
For me, its stock. I've tried all roms and frankly my phone runs the best on stock. I've unrooted and am waiting for the gb ota. The real fun will begin when the official gb update comes out. I too am hoping for a sense 3.0 rom. My brothers Droid incredible runs it very well and it is sooo nice looking.

[Q] Different ICS Roms = Confusion | [Poll] Which one are you using? Why?

With the risk of getting banned, flamed or closed down.
It would be cool if someone could clear this up and I think I am not the only one confused here. I might add a FAQ later with all the answers.
So far there seem to be 3 ICS Roms*:
CyanogenMod9 G2X (SelfKANG)
*****EaglesBlood™***** ICS 4.0.3
HellFire Sandwich
*I ignore the (modified) MIUI ICS Roms because they don't seem to have data working according to their threads.
Now what are the real differences?
SelfKANG seems to be the most 'original' a.k.a first one. According to his post "Most visible Known issues [are]:
- No media acceleration: No video decoding, no video encoding
- Apps made for Android 4 with their own specific graphics implementations (Chrome is a good example) will be glitchy."
Then there's HellFire Sandwich which seems to build of one SelfKang version (not really clear), but according to changelog it got media acceleration. Does this mean video decoding & video encoding are working?
Last, but not least, there's ***EaglesBlood™***. According to post it's "BASED OFF CM9 UNRELEASED SOURCE.THIS IS NOT A KANG OF "Arcee's ROM (SelfKANG)" What's the difference? I thought Arcree's is CM9. At least in my understanding, it was...
Do all 3 Roms have the same problems (it doesn't seem to be the case though)? Which ones are the known problems exactly?
Then there's this list I found where more seems to be working. Or at least the problems that are reported sometimes shouldn't happen according to this list.
I went through many pages of the developers threads and no clear answer is to be found. I'm just really confused right now.
Thanks in advance.
Which Rom are you using? Why?
so, ricardo's (arcee's) cm9 build is unsupported by cm team.
Hellfire does not have hardware acceleration/video decoding/video encoding, it is a slightly modded cm9skX; so naturally they have the same issues.
doniqcc is doing his own thing based on the cm teams github sources.
i havent tried eagles blood yet, but i would recommend cm9sk3.
dont forget faux123's kernel. and v6 supercharger if you have the skill.

EB is based on the straight source code pulled from the Github. From what I understand, this would be like compiling your own "nightly" build from the most up-to-date changes.
everything has a tweaked hardware acceleration..HFS has media acceleration so you can play games from tegra zone. However, this does not have the video encoding to play movies. youtube works though. I haven't used EB so can't comment on that one.

thy for the answer.
do these work only work on HFS? or also on SelfKANG3?
SK3 can do youtube and just about any game I've tried to play. The only problem I've experienced because of lack of HW acceleration is trouble with Chrome for Android. Arcee said that apps like that which were written for ICS may have problems. Other than that, smooth sailing with SK3
Running sk3 and its damn good..haven't tried eb or Hellfire but reading thru the threads they both seem pretty solid
I think HFS is the most smooth of the 3
To clarify, Hellfire is based on self kang 1, next update should include things from 2 an 3 but there hasn't been an update since before SK2 was released.

Faux CM 49b4 SV ICS
Apex Launcher Beta v0.2
I have used all of them and I feel as though EB ICS feels the least "experimental" and the most like a daily driver IMHO. I use it just like previous EB roms for the most part and it has been a very consistent experience for me

I've only tried HFS and while I like it a lot I am going back to 1.9 since it is more stable. I work in the basement of a hospital and don't get a steady signal to my phone unless I use my work's Wifi and enable Phone Wifi. HFS crashes every 15 to 20 seconds whenever I enable to Phone Wifi so I can't use it reliably at work. That said when it becomes stable, I can't wait to enjoy some HFS goodness.
I've been running HFS and I've had only the known issues (wifi calling, ICS apps fc, etc...) I have been running John's roms sine he was kanging EB roms. He responds quick to issues and only releases complete roms ( as complete as possible)

There is HW acceleration, just not media acceleration. No dev would've released any sort of ICS rom without at least partially working HW acceleration. Faux's kernel is not needed, as all it does is OC/UV, and I would wait for morfic's kernel since there actually is a performance gain.
I'll add my vote for HFS. Started running it yesterday and it has been pretty smooth with almost no issues (except the known ones).
I am really digging ICS!
thanks for all the answers. Added a poll
I've been trying SK3 with faux 049b4 which comes with a minor bug.
If you flash Faux on SK3, it completely removes the "Mobile Data Limit" option which was added in Sk3.

So far it seems good/stable. what I've *really* noticed so far:
Fb contact sync won't work. (thanks to ICS, google & fb)
sadly no gestures for launcer nor ability to hide apps in drawer.
Try using apex launcher for hiding apps and gestures. I think it is best of the ics based launchers.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1452663
HFS 1.1 is indeed based on SK1, but for the most part is similar to SK2 after Hell's tweaks. His next build is supposed to be from source (SK3) and we'll probably have some of his personal customizations.
SK3 added in selection options your storage and something else that escapes my memory at the moment that wasn't terribly significant to me.
EB build 1 basically is SK2 built from source. His next build is supposed to be SK3 with more of his customizations from his other EB roms.

Stable ICS rom?

Its there a stable, clean ics rom for the g2x? Nothing themed and all that just stock style?
I've been using AOKP for a while now and have no complaints. It looks stock-ish.
They're all pretty stable and they're all pretty much clean until you start customizing stuff. EB is probably the most "clean," though. I don't remember it offering much, if any, options for customization. I'm currently a big fan of HFS, clean not dirty.

+1 HellFire Sandwich 1.7 Clean Version.
Stable. Stock.

Well...
I've been using the EaglesBlood ICS ROM and I like that one a lot. The creator said it was supposed to be close to stock but has a few extra features for better performance. There's also supposed to be an update to 4.0.4 today, and I've heard people say that the pre-release is very smooth and snappy. I would wait for the full release though, apparently the pre-release doesn't have working wifi... I would say get the 4.0.3 version until he comes out with the next.
But keep in mind that all ICS ROMs are still not completely stable and you will find some problems. I just find EaglesBlood to work well and HellFire is good too.
As I think you could probably find this out for yourself, by flashing them and creating backups like everyone else around here did, my choice is AOKP.
There's really no way to tell on your phone, though, as each phone is different. However, AOKP Milestone 5 is stable and amazing, with the stock kernel.
Eaglesblood 4.0.4 ASOP
Eaglesblood 4.0.4 ASOP is clean and awesome. The only issue I've run into is some WiFi calling glitches.
Minimal customization and code straight from Google.
Another Eaglesblood 4.0.4 ASOP user here and its worked well for me thus far. If you read through the threads for the different ROM's you'll find their users having similar experiences.
There are some known drawbacks to ICS on the G2x and thats more an LG issue that the Dev's here.
Backup your phone, then try them all out and pick your favorite. Worse case, you roll back to what you have now.
im currently running aokp milestone 5 and ive enjoyed it very much. havent tried out any other custom roms, but the control and customizations you get with aokp makes it a nice rom to try out. flashing process is pretty easy too
it's stable with a few known and documented bugs

What ICS ROM do you like best???

I know this has been done many time let try to help each other along with the kind developers. The ones I know about are Eagles Blood, Genesis, Hellfire Sandwich, and Owain's UNOFFICIAL BUILD.
If you know of more list them. If you like one VS the other list it and explain why and compared to what. List what you do not like about each one as well. Lists of likes and dislikes.
If one Rom has one thing working and another Rom dose not maybe this could help the developers.
thanks
How about you try them out for yourself and see which one works best for you?

I have tried all 4. The point is to get ideas flowing. What problems you have on one VS the other. What you like on one VS the other. facts VS Opinion.
I personally like Owain's UNOFFICIAL BUILD, he consistently updates taking in everyone's comments. I've tried Eagles Blood, and Hellfire Sandwich and I feel I have the most freedom with Owain's. I don't believe Eagles Blood has updated their ICS Rom since March and Hellfire Sandwich you can't edit the lock screen apps
If I was incorrect with anything sorry I might have just not seen it when I had them on my phone
I personally like resurrection remix rom.

Eaglesblood's AOSP pre-release is downloadable since about 5 hours ago. There's supposed to be another release today/tomorrow.
For the pre-release (my observations - do not generalize!!!):
*NO WiFi
*Lock screen seems to be off its normal position - it has the unlock/dial/messages/camera, but the camera is somewhere under the screen (?!?!) and I didn't even know it's there until someone pointed it out.
*Battery life seems pretty bad FOR ME. I had about 90% when I flashed the ROM last night. I only installed APEX launcher, Google maps, Dolphin HD, and updated ROM Manager and did a bit of browsing and messed around with some settings - not more than 30 mins. I also set the alarm to ring in about 5 hours. Surprise, surprise: the phone was dead when I woke up because its battery had dies - hopefully the release coming today/tomorrow will fix that.
*Stock browser doesn't work for me. It shows some all black or all white screen and sometimes just quits. That's why I installed Dolphin that fixes the problems.
*Google maps sometimes turns all grey. It's still there I can zoom in and out and use all the functions but I can't see them. I have to restart it - sometimes multiple time to get it back to work.
THE LAST TWO BULLETS have been common for me in all ICS ROMs I've used (EGB AOSP, Hellfire Sandwich, Genesis) and these are the main reason ICS is cannot remain my daily driver. I keep going back to Miui.

I've been using HFS for my daily. It's pretty stable and quick, and it just works. (for me anyway).
Owain's seems really innovative, but it just had too many issues for the time being. I may come back to that one on a later date when more things get ironed out.
In the meantime, I'm awaiting the release of HSF.8

Okay for me it's like i've tested every ics rom for g2x out there except genesis.
hellfire: it's a good rom but has some data drop issues didn't try it with harsh kernel yet may be on 1.8 coming soon.
eagleblood: 4.0.4 using it right now not bad smooth but few issues camera is 5m pix the gps is awful keeps on droping signal not battery percent option. data is perfect thou no drop ,
cm9 euroskank: this was the best rom i had up until they started updating it every update had issues no data at all no sound on the latest best was 1.3
right now i'm going to try hang v63 cz hopefully it's better i love the harsh kernel thanks the team that build it.
I've been running EB AOSP since the beginning, I love it.. All the ics problem I haven't really noticed.. The rom is super fast and snappy.. I don't take pics with the stock camera so the 5mp doesn't bother me.. I picked up fxcamera when it was 50 cents on the market.. Just no video recording.. But that's with all ics roms.. I've tried the others here on xda and they all seem very laggy to me.. I don't know why.. And too I'm like the stock feel of EB ics with apex launcher I'm happy

I've tried them all out myself. I used hfs for the longest because of how stable it was. Had to do the occasional reboot, but nothing major. I started using Genesis with harsh kernel a couple of days ago, and must say I am really impressed. I've had a couple of random reboots that wasn't normal with hfs, but I'm digging everything else. I just wish someone would fix the major camera issue! I'm a little ROM happy as I work for TMobile and am always trying to keep on the up and up. Hell, I'll try anything as long as it doesn't fry my beloved G2x!

I flashed from stock GB 2.3.4 (after downgrading my BB) yesterday with EB 4.0.4 (5/20 nightly) and have been surprised with it.
I'm having some issues with the sim , can't read my number or VM number and a strange issue with mobile data after a service dead spot (like on the subway) but a reboot corrects that....

I personally love AOKP. It's probably the smoothest and most stock 4.0.4 rom i've ever used. It has big support and a nice website with everything you need. It also has a simple rom control and theme manager in the settings and that's it. No other cluttered crap. I love the continuing updates and support. I haven't experienced one force close or overheat yet with this one. It's a keeper. [:
I don't like ANY of the ICS ROM's that are out currently. Until LG/nVidia releases the drivers for the tegra2 and G2X, I won't be pleased with what's out there.

New to G2X

I had a hd2 and loved it but had to switch to G2X. I have been looking to root and maybe a cool rom. What is lastest and best ones out? Any help would be great cause I can't find it.
Duck for cover
You are about to get a load of disapproval dumped on you but I will answer your question anyway. You should have posted this question in the, wait, you guessed it, the G2X Q&A forum. Now to answer your question, it depends on what your priorities are. I had an HD2 running Typhoon's CM 7.2 based ROM. If retaining nearly 100% of the phone's original functionality and stability while adding a nice collection of CM based goodies, I would recommend HellFire Phoenix 2.3. It is based on CM 7.2 and has nearly all the Driver, Kernal and OS bugs ironed out. On the other hand, if missing out on all the benefits of ICS is too much to live without, I tried HellFire Sandwich, Eagle's Blood, Domination and Genesis but found AOKP to be the best option. Nevertheless, after about four months of being fully committed to riding the ICS train until they worked out all the problems from not having open source drivers or ICS kernel code I decided to go back to HellFire Phoenix for a change of pace. What an eye opener. My passion for pursuing all the benefits of ICS had blinded me to how much in the way of stability, battery life and buggy core functionality I had given up. Needless to say it has been about eight months and I swore I wouldn't go back to an ICS build until the drivers and kernel were released for ICS from LG. The great news is the sister phone called the LG 2X just got it's ICS drivers and kernal source release a week ago and the CM team has already started releasing early nightlies of CM10 for the 2X. Our G2X has essentially the exact same hardware so we are expecting or at least hoping for CM support in the next couple weeks. If you don't run over 100 apps like I do, don't mind having crippled video recording and a few annoying crash inducing bugs and want ICS now, try the latest AOKP build. What I think will make you happier is to run HellFire Phoenix until some reasonably stable CM10 builds for the G2X come out and then jump on those. Eventually, developers will KANG the stable CM10 build and then it is up to you were to go from there. Good luck.
Wow thank you so much!! That was very nice of you. Sent you a pm also...thanks again!

Take your pick but out of the vast number of roms we have the pleasure of using ive liked these the best and depending what you want they are in order of stability. Of course this is all dependant on your Baseband and kernel preference. Have fun
All the info you need to prepare your phone for custom ROM's is available in the sticky thread at the top of the G2X development forum. I strongly urge you not to take the shortcut of flashing Clockwork Mod from ROM Manager. That is a fake flash that is temporary and if you ever run into a boot loop you will have to jump through many hoops and wipe your device to recover. Do a full NV flash of Clockwork Mod. Good luck. For the record, I'm far from an expert. At most I'm an experienced consumer of the wonderful work of the XDA geniuses. They never cease to amaze me.
I forgot to mention Weapon 3.1 ROM in my original post. Unlike all the other ROM's which a were based on a Cyanogen, it is built on top of the stock ROM. I loved it for a long time but it had a problem with spontaneous reboots. Also, it hasn't been updated in over a year. It is a solid ROM and has the extra bonus of including the nice LG camera software but in the end I moved on to Cyanogen based ROMs.

Well for roms if you want something really stable get CM7 pretty much the best one out there, if you want some ICS go for paranoid android that's what I've been using for a while now I haven't had that many problems, but yeah for paranoid android build 12 is the newest one and for CM7 go on the cyanogenmod website for it.
