Best Rom out so far???? - T-Mobile LG G2x

What do you think the best rom out for the G2x in your opinion is and state why
(I thought this would be a good thread to easily choose a rom without reflashing and getting different users opinions would be good too soo......)

at the moment, i'm using
[ROM] (v1.2.5) Nexus AOSP Gingerbread 2.3.4 - Faux123
&
[Kernel]CM7 [2.6.32.41] (v0.2.4) OC~1500MHz/UV/SLQB/BFQ/EXT4 [Jun-21-2011]
and it makes my phone hella leet :x (no glitches, or freeze ups or anything retarded)
the other roms were too glitchy for me so i ended up using faux's
give it a try!

All the GB Roms have issues of some sort from limitations that the dev's can't get past until they get updates from LG. I think both EaglesBlood 1.05 and Ultimate Rom are the best, just buttery smooth both of them with absolutely no issues.

I've tried them all. I keep trying the GB based roms over and over again, thinking "it's going to be better this time," because I love the way the keyboard (even swype) has the placeholder for moving the curser. But it always ends with the same issues. I MUCH prefer the camera in the froyo roms to that in the GB's. For some reason, even though benchmarks may show otherwise, the froyo roms SEEM to move faster and smoother from task to task. Perhaps the froyo roms leave me with more available ram to play with...not sure.
Anyway, the Ultimate Rom is a fantastic rom. But I prefer to use EB 1.05 with the honeycomb theme from 1.04. I just love having the blue radio and battery icons, rather than the green ones. I always end up back at the EB 1.05 rom. It's 100% stable, no reboots, no freezing or forced battery pulls, no wacky battery life issues, etc. I don't bother with overclocking anymore...I'm more into undervolting so that I can get maximum useability of the feature-set, yet still get good battery life.

I agree how eaglesblood froyo is a nice smooth fast rom with better camera and i tried all the 2.3 roms i think that Faux's AOSP rom is the top rom for g2x with 2.3
and I also agree that until 2.3 is officially we will see a huge progression in better roms im just hoping for a sense 3.0 rom personally

I have tried several ROMs on this phone and they all bring their own strengths/weaknesses. I use A2DP daily and i like the HDMI out option (use about once a week) so I landed on the GB Leak (the 2.3.4 ROMs are missing this at the time). I know it can be a bit buggy for some however I have had zero issues with it. I'm sticking with this for now until the other ROMs are fully functional or until the official release of GB comes out.

For me, its stock. I've tried all roms and frankly my phone runs the best on stock. I've unrooted and am waiting for the gb ota. The real fun will begin when the official gb update comes out. I too am hoping for a sense 3.0 rom. My brothers Droid incredible runs it very well and it is sooo nice looking.

[Q] Fav Rom in your opinion

So i am currently running eagles blood and love it, super smooth, love the black. Havnt found any other glitches yet. Props to creator. What are some other good roms our there
Before the g2x I had a vibrant and ONLY ran Team Whiskey built ROM's because they were always the quickest and most reliable. When I first got my g2x I saw krylon running around the g2x forums and was very excited to see what he will do. My wife is STILL running Bionix on my old vibrant and I am also running Bionix on the g2x. Battery is a lot better, black theme is very nice, phone is super snappy, and I have NO problems with Bionix.
I have tried pretty much all the gb rom's out there and fauxs aosp 1.1.5 gb rom has been the most stable and smooth build I've used... with his custom kernel the thing is buttery smooth and fast with an oc of 1.5ghz if you want it super fast ... plus its a nice stock gb build with no extra stuff which I prefer ...
right now I'm running Bionix.
It's hard to say anything about one being better/worse than another right now, since they're all still in beta form. Let's get some final releases out, or at least an official gingerbread leak to compare against, before judging anything too harshly. And I'm not trying to say they should rush...just that we should expect some glitches
Here is my opinion.
None is better then the other for the fact that they are all built off the same source. If you look at the change logs for all roms right now it is mostly visual things changed with few backend things. (minus cm7 as they built their own)
Anyways give the devs more time to get more actual development done then compare them.
Stock Rom because it's more stable than any of the custom roms at this point. Every thread I've been reading people are having a lot of issues that's why I haven't flashed yet. Waiting for stable build from official source

Not quite true.
stock has almost all the issues and more then most the modded roms.
The reason you see more people complain about the issues on the modded roms is cause ALOT more people are using them over stock as it is junk.
EB1.04 Froyo. Used with included kernel and just a couple of tweaks here and there. Better than stock, LG camera, no GB issues. I get great battery life and speed with it. I'm not looking for a Quadrant record holder...just something that does what I want it to do when asked.
Now for the moderator in me:
These types of threads have the potential to invite flame wars. Keep this thread civil and helpful so it remains open. Thank your for your cooperation.
I've tried a lot of roms but settled with EB 1.0.4 because it feels like a stock rom but without the resets I kept having the with leaked version. The GB keyboard lags some but its nothing.
CM7 is really coming around but I'm going to hold off until they fix the APN settings. I've used CM since the first nightly and started looking elsewhere after #21. I'm looking to just relax with a working rom ATM.
As far as the various roms, they aren't all based on the same source. CM uses a CM base and their own kernel, EB uses the GB leak, and a few others are from AOSP directly from Google. Lots of variation. I agree that we should wait till we get some final builds until we compare but I think this thread is good for people to know because I've been using CM since it came out and when it came time to find something more stable I couldn't find which ones worked or which ones had which bugs.

I'm a Team Whiskey fan coming from the Vibrant so Bionix is my first choice, But Eagle's Blood 1.0.4 FR is also really good and in fact I'm running right now because it's still 2.2 so it has stock camera which is great!
Once Krylon gets the camera working on 2.3 I will go back to Bionix!
Haven't tried any others because of the APN issues!

No issues on Bionix.
I've played with all roms.
Latest was Bionix. It suffered some miserable battery drain with this rom. I gave it a few days play, with plenty of idle and game time. I'll say it is very snappy, however I couldn't accept going from 100-under 50 overnight idle while I slept.
Great rom and I will try again.
I'm gonna try EagleBlood 1.04 here in a few minutes, as it's gotten some decent mentions throughout the forums.
oh and btw, faux's aosp 1.1.5 got rid of any lag on the keyboard which i think no other rom has been able to fix on a gb rom

I wish they had a froyo version, cause I hate the jerky browser in gingerbread....
yea man i gotta say def eb 1.04 froyo is what is best rite now ive tried all of them and dont get me wrong bionix is the **** and faux did get rid of the keyboard lag and thats a big thing with these tgingerbread roms for some reason but yes all great roms but eb froyo 1.04 is sick got this extra keyboard by lg which i love and the stock cam also butter smooth but when running a oc kernel im having problems with my phone being on charger and it dying and not turning back on n having to do a battery pull so im just keeping it stock and love it still very fast!
The best ROM for me has been EB Froyo 1.04 and Morfic kernel is running great.
I have flashed nightlies, bionix, GB leak, and eb 1.02 and 1.04.
EB Froyo seems to be the most stable and just works for me.

I just dont want to have something go wrong and have to ask for help and get flamed for flashing ROM's without knowing what I was doing first. Hehe

I'm using the stock kernel. I tried the first morfic kernel for the build, and it was very unstable for me. Planning on giving the +48mb version a shot in the future, but stock works so well for me (speed+battery life), it'll be hard to justify a switch.

BAMF 2.0 or Gingeritis v1.0

Ive run bolth this week and tried all the diffrent rom and kernel combos im running gingeritis with dream kernel 2.0.2 what are you guys running and what have you like abt each rom and what havent you.
i've run the froyo bamf and gingeritis and i have to say that gingeritis is a much better rom. Butch and Mik are both crazy amazing rom crafters but from the way both roms work i see that bamf roms are a bit advanced for my liking, gingeritis has the right amount of stock apps and extra apps installed on a clean flash and allow me to use the superuser from the market without and hassle.
I love both roms but my preferance is mik's roms and right now gingeritis is where i will stay until i feel i want to move to CM7. I think everyone should be working towards getting to know your thunderbolt and slowly working their way to CM7 by trying out different roms and learning adb, fastboot, cmr, and theming
Theoryofginger is making some serious headway with users may take a look at that.
Gingeritis is excellent but the transparent pull down can be difficult to read at times.

+1 for Gingerth3ory. I downloaded the 4.0 test build and it is rock solid, quick and pretty good battery life for Gingerbread. I've flashed many roms and this one is my current favorite.
I've tried th3ory as well but I seemed to have quick battery heat up on that Rom I'm not sure why but I've noticed my phone getting allot hotter lately can't figure out why
I was on the froyo Bamf since it came out. Went Briefly to BAMF GB and personally it was buggy (and to a point still is). No disrespect to butch, I heard he go injured on the job and his hands are full.
Gingeritis I waited until the final came out and went with the same dream kernel. For me it has been problem free, much like BAMF's froyo rom. Not as many bells and whistles, but it is stable.
My final decision was based on reading the last few pages of each roms posts, seeing what the main complaints were. You can do the same and see if those complaints you can live with or is too much to deal with. Either way both ROMS are basically beta's, so there will issues until the official GB release comes out.
i would have to throw in bamf3.0 preview4 it is by far the best rom i have ever ran, just wipe 3x before installing. sense 3.0 is beastly, you should definitively take a look at it. i have tried other roms out but i always end up back on bamf
Another for Gingerth3ory. Loaded the 4.0 release last night with the Rapist kernel and enabled the ability to drop to 184MHz... Battery life so far is the best I've seen so far, and the whole system runs silky smooth. (I was running the beta of gingeritis until I switched to th3ory 2 weeks ago)
+1 Bamf
I'm on Bamf 2.0-5, and haven't found a reason to switch out yet. Fast, Stable, and only one major bug at this point (sometimes recharges slowly until you restart).

Honestly if you try all the GB roms, they all buggy. I liked remix GB the best though was as quick as Gingerbean and gingerbean IS LEAN and pretty sensless so thats an achievement by BAMF to say the least. Those are the only 2 I liked. Have not tried theory yet but been reading on it alot.
They all buggy though I can't stay on GB... everytime i flash its cool for like first day or 2 then weird **** happens. Phone always runs hotter and battery is just unpredictable.
I test the BAMF 2.0.5 and Remix to , now i run Liquid Gingersense v1.1 with Nerozehl's dreamKernel 2-0-3 meantime best result and very stable
I've tried both and frankly everything else and I always go back to Gingeritis.

Gingeritis with Neo's latest, running Rapist extreme mod = win.
BAMF GB pr4 for me and it works like a charm understanding there are somethings that are still being worked on. Can't wait for pr5 which I hear is being built with a new base from the ground up so keep your eyes peeled back for that one peeps.
I personally run Gingeritis over BAMF because of the transparent market and auto-rotate toggle within the status bar. miss the bamf toolkit tho

You will get as many opinions as there are Roms. If you have not already done so, I recommend getting Rom Manager from the Market and creating a backup copy of your rooted, but basically stock phone. From there I have had improved battery life and respectable radio performance using BAMF GingerStripped v2.1 & the latest leaked radio (1.46.00.0704w_2, 0.01.76.0703_2r).
You will find that radio performance is sometimes hit or miss when using the Gingerbread Roms. With that being said, improvements are made on an almost daily basis. I have no complaints with the stability or performance of my phone under the Rom/Radio configuration described above though.
All the links to Chingy51o ROM's will be down in the Tbolt forums. Go to themikmik.com to download. I wouldn't suggest TPS 1.5 though. It's old, based on a froyo leak that no kernels were ever developed for, and there's sereveral that are faster and more developed. Do you want feature-rich and solid as the Rock of Gibraltar, or, do you want a ROM that runs like a raped ape on fire? If you want feature rich and solidly developed, go to TeamBAMF.net and try one of theirs. If you like speed and all the junk pulled out, try themikmik.com and check out Chingy's ROM's. If you're feeling senseless, OMFGB is probably the best AOSP ROM out there. And then there's always CM7, which is starting to look like a finished product. I like Gingeritus3D V1.0 BetaV. V and VI are as fast as any gingerbread ROM I've ever used, if not faster, even with all the extra graphic load and Sense features. And it's reliable.
If batter life is what you crave, Froyo is probably the way to go. In that event, would definitely suggest BAMF. They seem to have the most developed Froyo builds with the best kernels. And they're great guys over there to who are always happy to help.
That question is about as tough as us telling you what's the best car to drive for you.
Not for us...but for you...
As said, best thing you can possibly do is make a backup of stock via clockwork recovery mode.
Do NOT use ROM or Kernal manager to flash Roms or kernals. Use Clockwork.
There are a TON of good ROMs out there...lately, there has been a little bit of an exodus of talented developers...politics are politics. It's too bad.
My advice is any time you go from one ROM to another, wipe data, cache and dalvik.
DroidTh3ory makes a great ROM (running it now)
BAMF makes a great one (Have run them a lot in the past) google search...they are no longer on XDA
Virus (Synergy, airborne) makes a great ROM
Chingy (Gingeritis, liquid ginger, perfect storm) makes a great ROM. Google him as well, no longer here.
Pretty much any of the Developers make two flavors of their ROMs, with Sense and without. 100% personal preference. If you like the eye candy...stay with Sense. Trade off is a little speed an performance and battery life (you may not even notice) vs. a non-sense based ROM.
Without a doubt, the most popular AOSP (Android Open Source Project) ROM is CM7.
Personally...I like sense. I've tried 2 or 3 non-sense based ROMs...I like candy, what can I say?
Tesla Coil
ROM Suggestion
I tried Perfect Storm v1.5 as well as my first ROM and it was good however I have now moved on to Eaton ROM v1.5.3 and it is flawless!
I've tried a few different ROMs, to include Das BAMF (RC4.9), Ging3r3dTh3ory, Liquid Thunderbread v1.4, as well as Gingeritis v1.2 and Gingeritis 3d v1.0 Beta VI.
I really liked the eye candy that Das BAMF had in his ROMs. It seemed pretty stable, too, but I haven't been able to find a Sense ROM that beats Gingeritis. Either "Gingeritis v1.2 non-3D" or "Gingeritis 3D v1.0 Beta VI", have both been very reliable, and the 3D version is very snappy considering it's 3D and Beta.
I have not tried any other roms other than Th3ory roms and they are awesome , great battery life.
I have been running the ROMs released by Th3ory. I started out with the Sense 3.0 ROM, then moved to a 2.1/3.0 Hybrid. Now I am running his latest CM7/AOSP mashup. It is rock solid for the most part. While I do miss some of the Sense UI elements, the sheer speed and performance, not to mention battery life, with the AOSP ROM is phenomenal.
Also, I do recommend the use of the 627 radio as well with this ROM.
I've tried every rom out there (up until about a week ago or so), and Th3ory Roms are easily the best for me. I value Performance first, Stability second, and debloating third. Every Rom that DroidTh3ory has put out has out performed all other roms for my needs. His latest offering, Pur3A05P, is amazing. I've never had an android experience so smooth, snappy, and stable. Not to mention fully AOSP, so fully debloated.
Also, you should see about flashing the latest radio. It's available at themikmik.com, labeled something like (2.xxx.xxx.xx). A reminder: A radio image is flashed by placing the file, named exactly 'PG05IMG.zip', on the root of your SD card, rebooting into hboot (vol- while booting), and accepting the upgrade. Also, make sure you delete or rename the radio off of your sd card once your done!

How is stock Gingerbread on this phone?

So I'll be coming into possession of a G2X very soon and I was wondering how the stock Gingerbread OS is performance wise. I was gonna root it and remove bloat but that's it. I'm not sure I wanna get into flashing ROMS like I did with the Galaxy S. So performance wise, not customization wise, is it worth flashing or am I good with stock Gingerbread rooted with bloat removed?
Best off using a stockish rom actually. Stock on the g2x is very stock.
Sent from my LG-P999 using Tapatalk
There is a stock gingerbread which people have good luck with. One of the best roms, Weapon, is stock based. I use CM7 and MIUI cause the features are hard to live without.
You'll be in good company regardless.
G2x - 2.3.7 CM7
Transformer - 3.2 Revolver OC/UV
Telnav and qik are the only bloat which have running procs under stock. Runs more stable than froyo did.
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
I think you'll be happy with it, though I agree with player911, a large driving factor for me to use CM7 is the features.
Not only is it very stable, but there are plenty of fixes and some nice modified versions of stock, like xboarder56's tweaked 1.2.2 build (My father and I have the same phones, he prefers the stability of stock and xboarder56's ROM has been flawless.) that is to fix any problems with the OTA build and nothing more.
If you want stock GB but want 2.3.4 instead of 2.3.3 check out my two new roms.
Regular: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1325403
LG Colorized: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1334819
They are based on a stock 2.3.4 build from LG. Colorized has colors and icons taken from P990's new 2.3.4 GB rom. The kernel is 2.6.32.9 built by LG for 2.3.4 on our hardware.
Go with custom roms. No reason not to.... they are way better. Especially for battery, customization. Rooting your phone is the only way to make it truly yours and make it perform the best it can. I wanted to stay stock actually, but once I tried a custom rom, there was no going back.... ever

Awesome, thanks for the responses guys. Can always count on the community with a little help
I've heard some real horror stories around here about this phone, but I've never had any real issues with it.
I ran stock GB out of the box, and never had any of the plaguing issues that some users see.
I flashed almost all of the roms and kernels, and found Weapon 2.8 with faux's oc/uv kernel to be to my liking. Everything works, and the phone its quite a bit snappier oc'd at only 1.1GHz.
Flash until you find what you like. There are a lot of combos to try, and a great dev community here.
Just my 2ยข
I have been using Xboarder's stock tweaked for the longest time and have settled on Weapon G2x.
Great stability and features

MIUI VS CM7 VS Eaglesblood VS Weapon

Which one do you think is the best? Why?
Adv vs. Disadv analysis is encouraged.
Btw, I am not jboxer. There was a little bit of a name mixup
I've only tried weapon. I have had no desire whatsoever to try anything else. Weapon works! i get 24 hrs. of medium usage or 48 light usage per charge. it's fairly customizable, has many themes for it. bluetooth, hulu, netflix all work. i'm sure the others are great, but i'll stick to weapon. thanks Whitehawkx!
I have used EaglesBlood and CyanogenMod Nightly's. I have noticed no real differences between the two as EaglesBlood is based on CyanogenMod.
Weapon is based on stock, so it will be customizable but retain more of the stock functionality and won't be as widely customizable right off the bat like CM7 and EB. Weapon is also based on 2.3.3 vs 2.3.7. MIUI is also based more on stock but has a redesigned UI that looks a little more like iOS. MIUI is also more compatible with the Asian market and it's phone technology. They all have their downsides, mostly in that some piece of hardware isn't working at full ability. But that is just one of the things about custom ROMs.
In the end it is all up to you in what you want for your daily use. I suggest just trying each one out until you find the one that suites you best and stick with it.
Eagle ftw!!!

I've used EB and weapon, and personally i preferred weapon over EB. i haven't used MIUI and CM7 seems so unstable.
Started with weapon which was great. Tried miui but really to me its an ios knock off gone wrong.
EB is good but I had memory issues with it.
So since as of Oct 25th I have been using CM7 nightlies. They are pretty stable. I don't have any issues. CM is where most developers get their stuff from or they get stock.
With CM you have the latest version of Android. When ICS comes out I am sure CM will have the first stable one
However you do need to try and test urself what is good. Clockwork and Titanium are must have when using custom Roms.

MIUI FTW
I've been using CM7.1. I first scooped it up when I saw the Cyanogen guys drop it in the dev section and have been using it ever since. Battery life is great, GPS is relatively quick on my device and its very customizable, obviously. Only downside for me is sometimes when I'm charging it the phone will become unresponsive and basically give me a blank screen, have to batt pull. I have recently wipe batt stats and haven't had that problem.
I haven't tried weapon yet, but I like most of the stock based roms because of the LG cam and hardware compatibility. I may flash weapon when I get bored though just to mess around with it.
MIUI was one of the first ROMs I flashed because I came from an Optimus S and always wanted to run it. It was a great ROM; batt life was good, really snappy, very customizable again and it looked soooo good. In the end however the hardware compatibility issues caused me to look elsewhere. Was getting random FCs, GPS wasn't quick enough for me, overall not stable enough for myself to run as a daily.
No experience with EB here, but right now CM7 is my favorite ROM. It has a good balance of look, features, compatibility and performance. IMHO of course.
I've used EB, CM7 stable, and Weapon. I haven't used MIUI for the G2X but have run it on other phones in the past. MIUI is interesting to use as something different but the novelty wore off for me after awhile.
Right now I am sticking with Weapon as it provides the most stability and functionality IMO. For example, I couldn't stream Bluetooth audio in my car with CM7 and GPS locking was a nightmare. I also find it gives me the best battery life but that is highly subjective...
Anyhow, with ICS source code being released today I think there will be some serious beta ROMs coming my way soon.
Flash everything and see what you like best. Just remember to Nandroid along the way!
Faux rom all the way.

I think I've used every rom made for the G2x and flip between them often.
Weapon just works but that's boring. I would use it if whitehaux included T-Mobile theme support (aka CM7 themes). The addition to the notification toggles helps lower the burden of use also.
I haven't tried EB in a while but it doesn't get updated much. It runs off a CM7 base... so I figure why not just use CM7?
MIUI does have a novelty that looks like it would get old but if you use a 3rd party launcher and play with the themes, you might find yourself getting addicted to the various array of different apps and functionality. The dialer, messaging, and music apps are glorious. You will however find that compatibility is the lowest and some FC more times then normal. For me it was completely useable. Development for MIUI is being ramped up and I would really like to have a really good stave version one day.
CM7 is what it is. It is the fullest and most worked on rom available on any phone. It doesn't have as many bells and whistles as MIUI but overall is a good balance between MIUI and Weapon. It is currently what I use.
What I like to do is view the "Post your homescreen" threads for both CM7 and MIUI. Find something that you really like and go for it. Android is all about custom appearances and style. Embrace it.
G2x - 2.3.7 CM7
Transformer - 3.2 Revolver OC/UV
I've tried them all
CM7 Nightlies - Seemed very unstable to me
EB - Just didn't feel it. I wanted to retain the look of stock. (First ROM I used, switched to CM7 Nightlies about 2 days later)
Weapon - Perfect for me since it looks just like stock and has more. (Currently using)
MIUI - Too much like iOS. Why did I get an Android? Because I liked the look of it... Didn't really like not having an app drawer (plus I liked the cube affect in app drawer) I reflashed Weapon about 5 minutes after flashing MIUI.
I've been using Weapon 3 RC1 and switched around to MIUI and CM7 then back to Weapon. I found the user interface of MIUI confusing and CM7 I can't say much about cause I used it so little. Weapon is straight-forward to use and very stable. I will continue to try various ROMs and kernels because I like to experiment and discover what's developing that may be better than what I'm currently using. For now, its Weapon.

CM7 is what it is. It is the fullest and most worked on rom available on any phone. It doesn't have as many bells and whistles as MIUI but overall is a good balance between MIUI and Weapon. It is currently what I use.

Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
Eaglesblood - Worked great but was always behind CM7 as it doesnt get updated as much.
MIUI- Looks great but can be slow and unstable at times
Weapon 3.0- Just wasnt working good for me at all. I dont know why but things were broken (Browser would constantly crash).
CM7- I am currently on this rom and it works great. On the latest nightly havent had any problems.
MIUI. im a recent convert and I really am seeing what all the hype is about now. super smooth, super customizable with themes and my personal fav? NO MORE ANNOYING BROWSER SLINGSHOT EFFECT!! this urked me to no end with other gingerbread roms. I can finally scroll without having to think about it lol.
miui all day baby!!!
Weapon since 2.6. Everything works. Period.
MIUI does feel weird at first but load up a custom launcher and you'll be right at home with Android-like feelings. Once you stop using the default launcher, it starts becoming this amazing experience. The launcher is the only resemblence to iOS (restrictive), everything else is unique.
Once you use MIUI or CM7 for a while, its hard to go back to Stock-like roms. The pros outweigh the cons. I didn't see the purpose of CM7 at first either. It's only until you discover the hidden gems that make it alternative roms simply amazing.
For Example: CM7 and MIUI allow UserAgent changes on the fly to flip between Desktop, Mobile, iPad, Android, Chrome, etc. I personally like the fully rendered pages so I set it to a desktop renderer so I'm not pulling up the crappy mobile sites all the time.
