New to G2X - T-Mobile LG G2x

I had a hd2 and loved it but had to switch to G2X. I have been looking to root and maybe a cool rom. What is lastest and best ones out? Any help would be great cause I can't find it.

Duck for cover
You are about to get a load of disapproval dumped on you but I will answer your question anyway. You should have posted this question in the, wait, you guessed it, the G2X Q&A forum. Now to answer your question, it depends on what your priorities are. I had an HD2 running Typhoon's CM 7.2 based ROM. If retaining nearly 100% of the phone's original functionality and stability while adding a nice collection of CM based goodies, I would recommend HellFire Phoenix 2.3. It is based on CM 7.2 and has nearly all the Driver, Kernal and OS bugs ironed out. On the other hand, if missing out on all the benefits of ICS is too much to live without, I tried HellFire Sandwich, Eagle's Blood, Domination and Genesis but found AOKP to be the best option. Nevertheless, after about four months of being fully committed to riding the ICS train until they worked out all the problems from not having open source drivers or ICS kernel code I decided to go back to HellFire Phoenix for a change of pace. What an eye opener. My passion for pursuing all the benefits of ICS had blinded me to how much in the way of stability, battery life and buggy core functionality I had given up. Needless to say it has been about eight months and I swore I wouldn't go back to an ICS build until the drivers and kernel were released for ICS from LG. The great news is the sister phone called the LG 2X just got it's ICS drivers and kernal source release a week ago and the CM team has already started releasing early nightlies of CM10 for the 2X. Our G2X has essentially the exact same hardware so we are expecting or at least hoping for CM support in the next couple weeks. If you don't run over 100 apps like I do, don't mind having crippled video recording and a few annoying crash inducing bugs and want ICS now, try the latest AOKP build. What I think will make you happier is to run HellFire Phoenix until some reasonably stable CM10 builds for the G2X come out and then jump on those. Eventually, developers will KANG the stable CM10 build and then it is up to you were to go from there. Good luck.

Wow thank you so much!! That was very nice of you. Sent you a pm also...thanks again!

OH GOD
Obviously new to XDA too im assuming since you posted here.... =]

Take your pick but out of the vast number of roms we have the pleasure of using ive liked these the best and depending what you want they are in order of stability. Of course this is all dependant on your Baseband and kernel preference. Have fun

All the info you need to prepare your phone for custom ROM's is available in the sticky thread at the top of the G2X development forum. I strongly urge you not to take the shortcut of flashing Clockwork Mod from ROM Manager. That is a fake flash that is temporary and if you ever run into a boot loop you will have to jump through many hoops and wipe your device to recover. Do a full NV flash of Clockwork Mod. Good luck. For the record, I'm far from an expert. At most I'm an experienced consumer of the wonderful work of the XDA geniuses. They never cease to amaze me.
I forgot to mention Weapon 3.1 ROM in my original post. Unlike all the other ROM's which a were based on a Cyanogen, it is built on top of the stock ROM. I loved it for a long time but it had a problem with spontaneous reboots. Also, it hasn't been updated in over a year. It is a solid ROM and has the extra bonus of including the nice LG camera software but in the end I moved on to Cyanogen based ROMs.

Well for roms if you want something really stable get CM7 pretty much the best one out there, if you want some ICS go for paranoid android that's what I've been using for a while now I haven't had that many problems, but yeah for paranoid android build 12 is the newest one and for CM7 go on the cyanogenmod website for it. Also welcome to the g2x forums xD

[Q] Best Nexus S Rom?

Hi guys,
I was wondering if I could get some advice. I had the Nexus One and had Cyanogen running on it, which I loved. I got the nexus S at christmas and love it... the random reboots did annoy me until 2.3.3 came out. Recently I rooted the phone and flashed modaco custom ROM based on 2.3.3 with the KB3 radio and GRI 54 base.
I was wondering if your guys opinions, what is the best ROM to flash, that is stable, with not random boots etc. but an improvment on what I have?
Thanks!!
They're all great. Try them all and see which you like the best.
Personally, I like CM 7 because of the T-Mobile theme engine that allows me to change the appearance of the ROM with the touch of a button. No more constant flashing of themes for me!
CM, only CM)
I was a CM7 fanboy untill i tried MIUI
MIUI without a seconds doubt...

I've tried a lot and although they all have their advantages I always come back to CM. It generally picks up all the great little mods that the community develop not to mention all its own great features.
Bear in mind that it is still not technically stable yet though R2 has been pretty good for me with only a couple of reboots since installing on the day it was released. Once we get the full stable CM7 it will be a tough one to beat
Cyanogen Mod 7 only.

I will elaborate. I've run every ROM available since January (when I got my NS). I've tried almost every release of those ROMs as well and I can honestly say that they are all awesome for different reasons. I try really hard not to be biased to one ROM or one developer because it tends to cloud your ability to try different things with an open mind. Right now I have NANDroid backups of CM7rc2, MIUI, Axura, NSCollab, Stock 2.3.3, Stock 2.3.3 Deodexed, and Honeycomb.
I'm always sad to see these thread because I think its asking the wrong question altogether. What these threads should ask is "What is your daily driver?" because "best" is so subjective to uses and personal preference. What some love about CM7 is also what many other hate. The iOS look of MIUI is both on of its most loved and hated qualities. Whatever tweaks a particular dev or team of devs seems fit to include may be exactly what a person wants or what a person doesn't want.
Now, I've said my diatribe and I'll answer the other question: "What is your daily driver?"
I have two. Some days I run CM7rc2, some days I run Axura. Once the white background issue is cleared up in MIUI, I'll add that to the rotation as well.
Cm7. Other roms are good for if you're bored and want to flash something new. Pretty sure everyone ends up on cm7 for stability and features better than stock.
Axura is my everyday driver. Its fast and its been the most stable for me.

I must agree entirely. I tried CM7 for awhile but it wasn't stable enough for me. I've never had a ROM as stable and fast and clean looking as Axura! I'd recommended at least giving a few of them a try though. The stickied thread by Kenvan is a wonderful resource!

CM7 for me.. the settings that CM7 offer are just too good to give up.
Axura for speed and animation, and CM for usability.

[Q] Fav Rom in your opinion

So i am currently running eagles blood and love it, super smooth, love the black. Havnt found any other glitches yet. Props to creator. What are some other good roms our there
Before the g2x I had a vibrant and ONLY ran Team Whiskey built ROM's because they were always the quickest and most reliable. When I first got my g2x I saw krylon running around the g2x forums and was very excited to see what he will do. My wife is STILL running Bionix on my old vibrant and I am also running Bionix on the g2x. Battery is a lot better, black theme is very nice, phone is super snappy, and I have NO problems with Bionix.
I have tried pretty much all the gb rom's out there and fauxs aosp 1.1.5 gb rom has been the most stable and smooth build I've used... with his custom kernel the thing is buttery smooth and fast with an oc of 1.5ghz if you want it super fast ... plus its a nice stock gb build with no extra stuff which I prefer ...
right now I'm running Bionix.
It's hard to say anything about one being better/worse than another right now, since they're all still in beta form. Let's get some final releases out, or at least an official gingerbread leak to compare against, before judging anything too harshly. And I'm not trying to say they should rush...just that we should expect some glitches
Here is my opinion.
None is better then the other for the fact that they are all built off the same source. If you look at the change logs for all roms right now it is mostly visual things changed with few backend things. (minus cm7 as they built their own)
Anyways give the devs more time to get more actual development done then compare them.
Stock Rom because it's more stable than any of the custom roms at this point. Every thread I've been reading people are having a lot of issues that's why I haven't flashed yet. Waiting for stable build from official source

Not quite true.
stock has almost all the issues and more then most the modded roms.
The reason you see more people complain about the issues on the modded roms is cause ALOT more people are using them over stock as it is junk.
EB1.04 Froyo. Used with included kernel and just a couple of tweaks here and there. Better than stock, LG camera, no GB issues. I get great battery life and speed with it. I'm not looking for a Quadrant record holder...just something that does what I want it to do when asked.
Now for the moderator in me:
These types of threads have the potential to invite flame wars. Keep this thread civil and helpful so it remains open. Thank your for your cooperation.
I've tried a lot of roms but settled with EB 1.0.4 because it feels like a stock rom but without the resets I kept having the with leaked version. The GB keyboard lags some but its nothing.
CM7 is really coming around but I'm going to hold off until they fix the APN settings. I've used CM since the first nightly and started looking elsewhere after #21. I'm looking to just relax with a working rom ATM.
As far as the various roms, they aren't all based on the same source. CM uses a CM base and their own kernel, EB uses the GB leak, and a few others are from AOSP directly from Google. Lots of variation. I agree that we should wait till we get some final builds until we compare but I think this thread is good for people to know because I've been using CM since it came out and when it came time to find something more stable I couldn't find which ones worked or which ones had which bugs.

I'm a Team Whiskey fan coming from the Vibrant so Bionix is my first choice, But Eagle's Blood 1.0.4 FR is also really good and in fact I'm running right now because it's still 2.2 so it has stock camera which is great!
Once Krylon gets the camera working on 2.3 I will go back to Bionix!
Haven't tried any others because of the APN issues!

No issues on Bionix.
I've played with all roms.
Latest was Bionix. It suffered some miserable battery drain with this rom. I gave it a few days play, with plenty of idle and game time. I'll say it is very snappy, however I couldn't accept going from 100-under 50 overnight idle while I slept.
Great rom and I will try again.
I'm gonna try EagleBlood 1.04 here in a few minutes, as it's gotten some decent mentions throughout the forums.
oh and btw, faux's aosp 1.1.5 got rid of any lag on the keyboard which i think no other rom has been able to fix on a gb rom

I wish they had a froyo version, cause I hate the jerky browser in gingerbread....
yea man i gotta say def eb 1.04 froyo is what is best rite now ive tried all of them and dont get me wrong bionix is the **** and faux did get rid of the keyboard lag and thats a big thing with these tgingerbread roms for some reason but yes all great roms but eb froyo 1.04 is sick got this extra keyboard by lg which i love and the stock cam also butter smooth but when running a oc kernel im having problems with my phone being on charger and it dying and not turning back on n having to do a battery pull so im just keeping it stock and love it still very fast!
The best ROM for me has been EB Froyo 1.04 and Morfic kernel is running great.
I have flashed nightlies, bionix, GB leak, and eb 1.02 and 1.04.
EB Froyo seems to be the most stable and just works for me.

I'm using the stock kernel. I tried the first morfic kernel for the build, and it was very unstable for me. Planning on giving the +48mb version a shot in the future, but stock works so well for me (speed+battery life), it'll be hard to justify a switch.

Feedback Needed From The Thunderbolt Community

If you recently purchased a Thunderbolt ....
You may be in the same boat as me, looking at rooting. Everyone is talking about gingerbread coming to our phones. I haven't seen an OTA as of yet, but it has leaked. located here->
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1225752
Now,
I know that you can root very easy here->
http://revolutionary.io/
and I would play close attention to this video as it provides detailed instructions ->
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-UK_CiB2SYk
**WAIT**
Before you dive in, here comes my question.
If you have done your research, there are alot and I mean ALOT of roms to flash for the thunderbolt.
I would like some feedback as to what rom you have flashed.
This will help anyone new to the thunderbolt party as well as myself.
I have yet to make a decision on rooting or waiting.
Your feedback below please.
Thank you all in advance
And as ALWAYS,
Thank you to all the developers who are working there butts off !
I tried out team bamf first, but then they jumped ship to their own forum. So then droidtheory started releasing roms and jumped to him and haven't looked back.
He has a sense and aosp (cm7) version and also dhacker and xpack have released their own versions based off of droidtheory's work.
xpack's senseless rom is very nice. Has the sense base so gps and nfl network work right out of the gate, but no sense (adw launcher instead) so its fast and smooth.

You can't go wrong with DroidTh3orys ROMS.
Root. Now. That way you can make your choice when/if GB actually comes. You can always go back to stock unrooted. You may not be able to root with the new OTA.
Roms? Like many things they are a personal choice that no one can make for you. Having flashed them all, I can tell you they have improved dramatically since I got my bolt in May. If you choose to root, do yourself a favor and try several. You will find the Rom that suits your taste and needs.

100% agree with this guy.
Us leaving XDA doesn't change anything about the quality of our roms. Fact is, many of our innovations end up in other roms anyway (ask ihtfp69 and erishasnobattery).
You can find us at teambamf.net, or rootzwiki.com.
There are many roms to choose from out there. Try them all, then decide.
Thank you all for your feedback. I made sure to click the Thank You buttons on all of your comments.

Multiple reasons, first and foremost my phone behaved the best with ShiftAO5P. I had a very smooth running phone and an amazing battery life with all the bells and whistles turned on. I've been running dasBamf Roms for a month now and love them. I am currently on UberBamf PR3. every Tbolt is different, so experiment and see what works best for YOU. After you install each ROM, make a back up of it. That way, if you install one, that you don't like, you can revert.
I like a fast, customizable ROM without all the Sense bloat so I use Liquid Thundersense. I've only had this phone for 5 days so I really have no other Thunderbolt ROM to compare it to (I ran Gingeritis for a couple hours and the stock ROM only long enough to download Gingeritis to the device; I just hate Sense lol). As far as it goes though I've owned five Android devices total and have rooted and ran custom ROMs on all of them. Only way to go IMHO.

Anyone else saddened that the development of roms have basically halted?

Trigger is done, roman moved on. Xboarder stopped a long time ago.

Whitehawk's 2.3.3 & other stock-based roms
Faux's Nexus
That's it. I hope Krylon's & Whitehawk's up-coming rom is kick-ass.

I may be off the mark but as far as I'm concerned, NVidia's the one who screwed us all by not releasing their source. In the absence of that development can only go so far. This will be my last NVidia device of any kind if I can help it -- for phones/tablets, I'm going with TI or Qualcomm and for laptops, I'm going with ... well, whatever I can get away with

Yeah Nvidia can suck it. ATI and for Computers and TI/Samsung/Qualcomm for mobile.
Nvidia has never been that open with their products. And likely never will.
I'm not worried about it. Its a pretty bad ass phone, once you get it working right. Trigger and Roman aren't necessarily gone...he's just working on other phones too. Plus, I'm sure new devs are getting some G2Xs every day. Somebody will step in to fill all the voids. Whitehawkx is around, Fits is busy, faux, and obviously the CM team...our world isn't so bleak. Whose MUIU are you using? The one here or the one over on the other site?
I'm using Jface's 8.19 rom since it was released a few weeks ago and aside from the lack of WiFi Calling and WiFi Tether, it is running like a dream. Battery is good and the phone is snappy. I was getting FC's with Rom Manager Premium but RM updated and now its good.
But really, CM and MIUI are pretty much the icing on the cake. Both are updated regularly by their respective teams.
It is also funny that this thread is right above "Nightlies are like crack". There are plenty of stuff to flash and try but right now, most roms are "as good as they can get "hardware-wise" aside from little tweaks and bug fixes all of them are working fairly well.
I need WiFi calling so that version isn't a viable option for me. There are still some little bugs with the version on the other site (having problem installing and applying themes). Once the bugs are worked out it would be a viable alternative to CM7. I still use Weapons as my daily ROM, and CM7 when I want Netflix. If CM7 or MIUI found a way to get HBO Go working and allowed HDMI output control I would probably start using them on a daily basis.

Ya I just got this phone. This is the 13th android I ever had and definitely near the bottom for development. Not much variety and seems to be going downhill
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium
You can't get much variety because this phone is based off Stock android. Can't really blame the devs if LG couldn't produce a respectable upgrade.
All the ROMs are based of CM7, AOSP, or Stock 2.3.3
If you seen one you seen them all. Can't have SENSE on this device. That would create more flavor of ROMs.
But the biggest deterrent is LG and NVIDIA. No support, you can only get so far. Lesson learned. Don't buy a device that has no love/support from manufacturer.
lately i've been upgrading less and less. i think once the phone gets to a stable environment (which is almost has) there really is less and less reason for development since it is stable.
There was someone that was looking into porting motoblur and optimus 2x but he seems to have gone AWOL

Stable ICS rom?

Its there a stable, clean ics rom for the g2x? Nothing themed and all that just stock style?
I've been using AOKP for a while now and have no complaints. It looks stock-ish.
They're all pretty stable and they're all pretty much clean until you start customizing stuff. EB is probably the most "clean," though. I don't remember it offering much, if any, options for customization. I'm currently a big fan of HFS, clean not dirty.

There's also supposed to be an update to 4.0.4 today, and I've heard people say that the pre-release is very smooth and snappy. I would wait for the full release though, apparently the pre-release doesn't have working wifi... I would say get the 4.0.3 version until he comes out with the next.
But keep in mind that all ICS ROMs are still not completely stable and you will find some problems. I just find EaglesBlood to work well and HellFire is good too.
As I think you could probably find this out for yourself, by flashing them and creating backups like everyone else around here did, my choice is AOKP.
There's really no way to tell on your phone, though, as each phone is different. However, AOKP Milestone 5 is stable and amazing, with the stock kernel.
Eaglesblood 4.0.4 ASOP
Eaglesblood 4.0.4 ASOP is clean and awesome. The only issue I've run into is some WiFi calling glitches.
Minimal customization and code straight from Google.
Another Eaglesblood 4.0.4 ASOP user here and its worked well for me thus far. If you read through the threads for the different ROM's you'll find their users having similar experiences.
There are some known drawbacks to ICS on the G2x and thats more an LG issue that the Dev's here.
Backup your phone, then try them all out and pick your favorite. Worse case, you roll back to what you have now.
im currently running aokp milestone 5 and ive enjoyed it very much. havent tried out any other custom roms, but the control and customizations you get with aokp makes it a nice rom to try out. flashing process is pretty easy too
it's stable with a few known and documented bugs
