I just got my skyrocket back from my brother he flashed the VK1 radio for tmobile and said it worked just fine in California. When i got the phone it wasnt connecting to the service and I continually attempted to manually search for the sim card through settings>Wireless and networks. It searched for about a second then stopped. Tried auto, no luck. Switched the radio to the KID and didnt work. This phone has been nothing but problems and I just need to fix it can someone please help
You may need to flash a different radio. There is a thread dedicated to the Skyrocket on T-Mobile. Check it out.

Yeah i got that. I actually just changed the basebands and it worked. Im still only getting EVDO which is basically where i started 2 weeks ago.

I tried installing the T-Mobile VK1 and Kid radios on my ATT Skyrocket with no luck. I cleared regular and delvik cache, and tried again. It doesn't give data service. When clicking on Mobile Networks under settings, it says Insert SIM card. Any ideas? Running Sky-ICS RC7.4 Stock
The baseband says T898UVKID rightnow, which is as I would expect since my last attempt was the Kid radio. I tried posting this in the radio thread in the development section, but I don't have enough posts.
Just for additional info, I am an ATT subscriber, and when I flash back to UCLA radio, all is fine. Maybe I don't understand the purpose of flashing a t989 radio. My reception sucks, and I wanted to pull off the T-Mobile tower instead of att, is this wrong method or am I just being ignorant? Voice worked fine with the vk1 and Kid radio's, just no data??
Thanks
You will never be able to pull off the T-Mobile tower, even though you are using a TMO radio, you are connecting to the nearest 2G (maybe 3G) AT&T tower. Only TMO subscribers can connect to a TMO tower.
Thanks for letting me know.
I was hoping it would work, but it doesn't suprise me that it wouldn't, since I have an ATT sim card not tmobile

How horrible is your signal? I have read of instances where users have gotten a free micro-cell tower. I don't even know if they offer them any more but there was a period of time where people were getting them for free and just complaining to AT&T.
I was wondering if anyone could help me figure out whats going on. I got the tmobile\walmart plan for $30 that includes 5gigs of data a month at 4g speeds. My phone is unlocked and with the tmobile sim I am only getting edge speeds right out of the box, so I tried flashing various t989 modems with no luck. I would either get edge, or when I would try to goto apn settings it would say no sim installed. Right now Im using the Telus Kj3 modem, and still only getting edge. I am right in the middle of St. louis so I think getting tmobile 4g shouldnt be a problem. Also im on stock 2.3.6 rom. Any ideas?
Read the thread about this. Search

Ive been searching for two days, and have read about 35 different threads spread all over xda and the skyrocket forum regarding this problem and have tried a hundred different things. I need someone that has successfully gotten it to work that can point me in the right direction. Your advice of "search" does me no good. If I had found the answer, I wouldn't have created a new thread about it.
The thread you seek is in the general section. Good luck

Well apart from the search advice ... it's too simple
-unlock the phone with a purchased unlock code
-put T mobile SIM
-flash T Mbile blaze 4G radio using ODIN
-in Android set up the T mobile apn settings
It should of been simple but it wasn't. After days of trying different roms and modems, and reading every page on it, I had no luck. So I invited someone over with a tmobile 4g phone, and I put my sim in it, and that phone didnt get 4g either. Finally figured out it was on tmobiles end, called them, and they fixed the issue. Also, after flashing the blaze modems, my phone said no sim card. The telus modem is the one that worked for me.

And it's always a good thing if somebody with a problem to disscuss here , would come back and say what worked for him/her so it can benfit the others
I had my wife call. I did not need a new sim. The first tech couldn't figure it out because he had her do things like take the battery out, and power cycle the phone which of course didn't work. So he escalated to a higher tech, which eventually tried "refreshing the signal." Wife said right after he did that, the 4g symbol came on my phone. Sadly though, Groove ip and talkatone don't carry a conversation to well while driving, even on 4g. I think I will try skype, and if that don't work I will have to switch my plan to something with more minutes.

refreshing the signal eh? hmm i wonder if mine has gone stagnant..
It sounds weird I know... but kudos to the tech guy. Whatever he did, it worked. Rather it be that, or something else he tried.
Hey everyone, I am a Galaxy Nexus user but my brother got an old Roger's S2 LTE that he wants to put on a non-Rogers network (same one I am on with my GNex). However we are having a weird issue where if we insert the original (deactivated) SIM that came with the phone it detects it. But if we put in either mine or his own it just always says "No SIM Card". I even have a pay as you go AT&T SIM that wont work in it either. So far I have flashed CyanogenMod and tried the UCLF6 radio as well as the Rogers ICS Radio UXLF3 from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1754473
I should note that when my brother originally inserted his SIM he got the unlock screen and paid to unlock it through cellunlocker.net and it was recognizing his SIM at that point. Since then however we have had no luck. He even replaced the SIM card board with a new one.
Any ideas? I am leaning towards hardware issue but its odd that it still reads the original inserted SIM
did you try to go back to stock firmware and see what happened
Yep. I'm pretty sure its hardware. I got it to read again but still no signal. I have it reading my AT&T card now but again still no signal.
In fact even without a SIM card in if I search for Network Operators nothing comes up. If I do the same on my GNex I get a listing so its looking like this phone is no good
EDIT: Just realized who responded. Your threads were VERY helpful for me! Thanks so much... I'm still not convinced the phone is toast... I have a friend with a GNex on Rogers (I'm on MTS) so I will see if I can borrow his SIM and see what happens

agree, not the phone, the only way to make sure of anything is to restore to stock and do all the testing from that point on
edit: dah, its the radio, what freq is the new sim card on that wont work, is it the same as T-Mobile
edit: maybe not radio, think its like rogers, could be network settings
Actually both MTS and Rogers use the same towers so the phone should be set properly.
I've got it reading my MTS SIM now but cant pick up any networks. Its set to LTE/HSPA/GSM (Auto) and MTS is HSPA.
Is there anything that could be done to the IMEI of the phone to sort of "blacklist" it from working on any network?
Here is where I have tested from so far:
Stock before I did anything to the phone (Stock rogers GB)
CM9 Nightly
Stock Rogers ICS
SkyICS
I have also tried both the lastest AT&T Radio as well as the latest Rogers Radio. With my GNex both myself and my friend on Rogers use the same Radio (UGLC1).
At this point it seems either the radios arent working at all or the phone is blocked somehow
EDIT: Info on the MTS network... Found on the FAQ on their site:
Any unlocked devices (i.e. devices that are not tied to a specific carrier) will work with MTS SIM cards (on the MTS 4G network). However, carriers such as Rogers, Bell and Telus lock their devices to work with only their SIM cards and these devices will not work with a MTS SIM card. Similarly, MTS intends to lock our devices to our SIM cards. Therefore, our devices will not be usable on another carrier's network.
Please note that any unlocked device must support 4G North American Frequencies (850Mhz), older GSM devices will not function on our new 4G network. You can find out if your device is 4G compliant by reviewing the phone's settings.

UGLC1 never seen that radio for the skyrocket
edit: oh, for the gnex
did you try the *#2263# menu
Yes when I try that menu (*#2263#) it doesnt do anything. I can do *#*#4636#*#* when on CM9 and it works but on stock and SkyICS it just FCs when I select "Phone Information"...
I am going back to Rogers Stock ICS right now. Gotta head off to my engagement party but will likely be back at it tomorrow
shouldn't forceclose, redl and try reflashing x2 the rogers radio, wipe/format x3 in cwm b4 going back to stock ics
Will do first thing tomorrow (or tonight if I'm still in any shape to do so )
If anyone reading this thread has a stock Rogers phone can you turn it off, take out your SIM and then boot it up without a SIM in it and then do a Network Search and see if anything comes up? On my GNex I get networks but on the S2 LTE I dont. In fact I have never seen any signal from any network on this phone yet with an MTS, AT&T and an old Rogers SIM
EDIT: Actually you will probably have to be on CM9. With stock you cant get to the Network Operator section without a SIM card inserted but in CM9 you can

Ok I had enough time to do as you suggested above. Wiped like crazy then went back to stock using the ODIN method and the firmware from sammobile.
Actually I figured it out... it only FCs when I have the AT&T SIM card in and I think thats because AT&T is RAT Locked? If I have no SIM in I can get to all the menus.
k, try to set the freq(play around with it) in that menu w/out sim, then shutdown and install sim b4 restarting, left haptic to click "end" is saving
Got home and went right to work. Almost positive the problem is the radio not working now. I managed to get both SIMs reading without issue but neither will get signal of any sort (even straight after stock reflash). Gonna call it for now until I get a hold of my buddys Rogers SIM.
Thanks so much for all the help, I really appreciate it!
Well my contract ended today, so I decided to jump ship to AIO Wireless... Since T-Mobile is getting rid of their grandfathered plans and making people upgrade, I decided to leave, and join the Pre-Paid community :victory: -- Cant wait until the Nexus 5 drops haha..
I'm SuperCID'd sim unlocked (did it last night), rooted (been rooted for years, the sensation is not my first rodeo), and all that Jazz...
Anyways.. I did everything that I was supposed to get everything activated and working.. typed in the new APN settings and got my data working and all..
My problem is that i do not get connected to 3g or 4g... I called CS and they said that everything looks fine.. (they dunno whats going on).. go figure.
I have 2g. Its pissing me off...
Just wondering if anybody else made the switch and are having/had similar problems??
Thanks
EDIT: Well i called back hoping to get another person to talk to.. and that somebody told me that since my phone is from T-Mobile, I wont be allowed to use their 4g.. --- My question is now this -- Since my phone is unlocked, wouldnt i now be able to use AT&T's network?? Or is the phone itself still required to use TMO's frequency? I'm confused.
EDIT 2: Did more research around xda and found that i could change the modem to att's frequency bands.. I flashed the modems via terminal emulator and even put in canadian radios.. well, both didnt work. when i flashed the modems, they didnt change the bands.. I would need the international sensation that uses att bands for att to work (thats why i flashed the canadian radio just to see if that would work) This is probably why we dont hear anything about our tmo sensations getting used on other carriers because no one has successfully changed the modem.. We cant change the bands that our phone comes with.. Damn.
Well, I guess i have to live with 2g for a week or so until the nexus 5 drops.. Then i can just slap my sim card in there and experience LTE ) -- but in the mean time, ill be using wifi.
Hey, thought id ask here. I have s8+ from Freedom Mobile (canada). I unlocked the phone and decided to go with Tmobile. Phone works fine in US but as soon as i went back to Canada DATA doesnt work. Ive had 3g few times but 99% of time its not working. 5 days in Canada already. I did what Tmobile recommenced. didnt help.
After I do a hard reset on the phone i have 3G (which works pretty quick) but it took 20 min for signal to disappear and i havent had it since. Phone calls work absolutely fine, its the data thats a problem. Yes i still have an account with freedom and phone does work fine on LTE there.
Any thoughts???
Im thinking may be I should push a tmobile firmware. May be that will fix it. I think i have tried everything else already.

What Canadian carrier are you connecting to? Try a different one if possible. I have connected to Rogers (LTE) and Telus 3g if I remember correctly.

That's what mobile asked me to do. On its own the phone mostly chooses Telus.
I may be able to connect to bell not Rogers. Although phone does connect at times to both bell and Rogers on its own.
Whether I connect or phone does it on its own I still have no interest connection.

Possibly check your apn and see if it's correct. I had similar issues on my old note 2 like this. Good luck

Thanks for the help. I tried putting an apn for telus since that is the network which the phone is connected right now but nothing happened.
Will search more for a solution

Did you enable Data Roaming in Settings?
Do you use T-Mo SIM card? If so, you need to use T-Mo apn.

Yep you both are right. Solved it a few days ago. When Sabresfan mentioned it i was trying to get Apn for telus as thats the network S8 connected to in Canada. Then went on youtube and some guy had Apn video for tmobile. I put that in and everything works fine so far. Now even have LTE. Next week will go to states to test see if everything fine with the phone over there.
