Hey everyone, I am a Galaxy Nexus user but my brother got an old Roger's S2 LTE that he wants to put on a non-Rogers network (same one I am on with my GNex). However we are having a weird issue where if we insert the original (deactivated) SIM that came with the phone it detects it. But if we put in either mine or his own it just always says "No SIM Card". I even have a pay as you go AT&T SIM that wont work in it either. So far I have flashed CyanogenMod and tried the UCLF6 radio as well as the Rogers ICS Radio UXLF3 from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1754473
I should note that when my brother originally inserted his SIM he got the unlock screen and paid to unlock it through cellunlocker.net and it was recognizing his SIM at that point. Since then however we have had no luck. He even replaced the SIM card board with a new one.
Any ideas? I am leaning towards hardware issue but its odd that it still reads the original inserted SIM
did you try to go back to stock firmware and see what happened
Yep. I'm pretty sure its hardware. I got it to read again but still no signal. I have it reading my AT&T card now but again still no signal.
In fact even without a SIM card in if I search for Network Operators nothing comes up. If I do the same on my GNex I get a listing so its looking like this phone is no good
EDIT: Just realized who responded. Your threads were VERY helpful for me! Thanks so much... I'm still not convinced the phone is toast... I have a friend with a GNex on Rogers (I'm on MTS) so I will see if I can borrow his SIM and see what happens

agree, not the phone, the only way to make sure of anything is to restore to stock and do all the testing from that point on
edit: dah, its the radio, what freq is the new sim card on that wont work, is it the same as T-Mobile
edit: maybe not radio, think its like rogers, could be network settings
Actually both MTS and Rogers use the same towers so the phone should be set properly.
I've got it reading my MTS SIM now but cant pick up any networks. Its set to LTE/HSPA/GSM (Auto) and MTS is HSPA.
Is there anything that could be done to the IMEI of the phone to sort of "blacklist" it from working on any network?
Here is where I have tested from so far:
Stock before I did anything to the phone (Stock rogers GB)
CM9 Nightly
Stock Rogers ICS
SkyICS
I have also tried both the lastest AT&T Radio as well as the latest Rogers Radio. With my GNex both myself and my friend on Rogers use the same Radio (UGLC1).
At this point it seems either the radios arent working at all or the phone is blocked somehow
EDIT: Info on the MTS network... Found on the FAQ on their site:
Any unlocked devices (i.e. devices that are not tied to a specific carrier) will work with MTS SIM cards (on the MTS 4G network). However, carriers such as Rogers, Bell and Telus lock their devices to work with only their SIM cards and these devices will not work with a MTS SIM card. Similarly, MTS intends to lock our devices to our SIM cards. Therefore, our devices will not be usable on another carrier's network.
Please note that any unlocked device must support 4G North American Frequencies (850Mhz), older GSM devices will not function on our new 4G network. You can find out if your device is 4G compliant by reviewing the phone's settings.

UGLC1 never seen that radio for the skyrocket
edit: oh, for the gnex
did you try the *#2263# menu
Yes when I try that menu (*#2263#) it doesnt do anything. I can do *#*#4636#*#* when on CM9 and it works but on stock and SkyICS it just FCs when I select "Phone Information"...
I am going back to Rogers Stock ICS right now. Gotta head off to my engagement party but will likely be back at it tomorrow
shouldn't forceclose, redl and try reflashing x2 the rogers radio, wipe/format x3 in cwm b4 going back to stock ics
Will do first thing tomorrow (or tonight if I'm still in any shape to do so )
If anyone reading this thread has a stock Rogers phone can you turn it off, take out your SIM and then boot it up without a SIM in it and then do a Network Search and see if anything comes up? On my GNex I get networks but on the S2 LTE I dont. In fact I have never seen any signal from any network on this phone yet with an MTS, AT&T and an old Rogers SIM
EDIT: Actually you will probably have to be on CM9. With stock you cant get to the Network Operator section without a SIM card inserted but in CM9 you can

Ok I had enough time to do as you suggested above. Wiped like crazy then went back to stock using the ODIN method and the firmware from sammobile.
Actually I figured it out... it only FCs when I have the AT&T SIM card in and I think thats because AT&T is RAT Locked? If I have no SIM in I can get to all the menus.
k, try to set the freq(play around with it) in that menu w/out sim, then shutdown and install sim b4 restarting, left haptic to click "end" is saving
Got home and went right to work. Almost positive the problem is the radio not working now. I managed to get both SIMs reading without issue but neither will get signal of any sort (even straight after stock reflash). Gonna call it for now until I get a hold of my buddys Rogers SIM.
Thanks so much for all the help, I really appreciate it!

Hey there, my brother recently inheritted someones old Rogers Galaxy S2 LTE. My brother is using MTS which uses the same bands/freqs (same towers in fact) as Rogers and was wanting to use this phone instead of his crappy Nokia.
He threw his SIM card in and got the screen asking for the network unlock key. He went to cellunlocker.net and purchased the unlock key and unlocked the phone.
However with his SIM card in he still doesnt appear to pick up any signal at all. I have an android (GNex) on the same network (MTS) and have never had an issue.
Do I have to flash a non-rogers ROM to get it working? I saw the SKY ICS one and was thinking I might flash that one to try it out. Unfortunately I wont have access to the phone until tomorrow
EDIT: I should have mentioned that his phone is completely stock right now. I have read about "Locked" radios and am wondering if that isnt the cause of our issues. I have heard from other I727 owners who were able to get their phones on MTS
I have a different thread in this forum where I was asking slightly different questions... I found some new info and the old title isnt as appropriate anymore so heres the new stuff...
The situation is this. I have a I727R which is the Rogers Galaxy S2 LTE. I am trying to get it on a different network (same frequencies, etc... in fact same towers in many cases). The network I am trying to get onto is MTS.
Previously it seemed the phone was not capable of getting any type of signal as I would never ever see any carriers when I searched for available networks under the "Network Operators" section. However since getting back to the city I can now see one carrier listed as "302660" which according to this site: http://rebelsimcard.com/listed-adde...and-mobile-country-code-mcc.html#.UBbxurSe6So is the mobile network/country code of MTS. Even with my MTS SIM in the phone it wont use this network and on other phones the network actually shows up as MTS and not 302660.
It seems that there is something that I need to do with the Radio to get it working. Not sure if this one is locked in some fashion or what. Has anyone experienced this? Any suggestions?

did you try *#2263# or still nothing happens when u enter the service code, my thinking is u have to force it to use a frequency that mts is on even though its the same as rogers, and you are sure its unlocked
edit: almost positive thats the problem, i was mucking around w/that menu and picked something accidently and i lost my connection
Yeah that menu works if I flash to stock with either GB or ICS but doesnt work in CM9
I have tried all of them. This phone is just stubborn. In another development I actually used ODIN to go back to Stock GB and the phone was just screwed up. So now I'm trying to wipe it completely clean (Wipe Data/Factory Reset x 5, Format System x 5, Format basically anything I could x 5 , Wipe Cache, Wipe Dalvik, etc.) then flash to one of the stock images.
I'm also redownloading them both and going to compare the MD5's on them to see if they match or if I had a bad download.
I'm not sure if there is another way to completely wipe the phone clean (as in I dont care/want any data on it...). I see the repartition option but see many warnings about using it
Compared MD5's and they matched on both downloads (different PC, different internet connection) but this time the flash back to stock GB worked (no FCs). However the network still shows up as 302660 instead of "MTS". Using *#2263# I tried leaving it on Automatic, setting it to WCDMA 850 (my GNex is set to WCDMA Preferred), GSM 850, WCDMA ALL and GSM ALL but it always shows up the same and wont let me join (under GSM it doesnt show up at all actually). I didnt touch the LTE menu item because nobody around here has rolled out their LTE network yet
The oddness of these issues actually makes me suspect there are bad "sectors" on the internal memory or something... is there anything to check it?
EDIT: Just another update... using my AT&T SIM in my GNex I can put it on WCDMA Preferred and then search network operators. I get 3 different networks to come up (302220 302610 and CAN Rogers Wireless). If I click on CAN Rogers Wireless the phone gets signal and registers on the network.
If I do the same in the S2 LTE I only see the 302660 network still and cant register on it. The others dont show up at all (not even the Rogers one which is odd to say the least)
Its looking like there is some wierd hardware issue on this phone that I just cant figure out
the only way to solve this is to do further testing
try skyics 4.2f6, he has all the radios there, try each one and see what happens, when switching different radios flash them twice, the service code 2263 works with this rom
SKY-ICS 4.2F6-2.4
Ok I've typed this post like 8 times and it keeps telling me my post cant be submitted... arrgghhh... here goes again (losing detail as I continue to try)
I've tried your suggestion above with basically the same results. I have made a few more obervations though...
- My MTS SIM doesnt always read and it seems ROM dependent. There are times when I've had it reading the SIM without issue on a ROM then i flash to another ROM and it wont read no matter what I do. However the AT&T SIM reads on every single ROM (still no signal). If i have the patience to continue playing with this phone I might try and narrow down which ROMs will read the card and which wont (then reflash and see if thats still the case)
- With SkyICS when I dont have any SIM inserted (which is the same as having my MTS SIM inserted since it never sees it ) the phone shows signal! Oddly enough it shows this signal on the LTE band of which no providers in my area have an LTE network (tested by setting the bands using *#2263#). MTS is supposedly getting one later this year/early next year so maybe I'm seeing some sort of test network?
- It almost seems to me like its not actually unlocked (even though we purchased the SIM Unlock code from cellunlocker.net). Not sure how to test it or how to try putting it in again seeing as it never pops up and asks since we unlocked it. How does it know its unlocked once its been done? I mean if I go back to stock through ODIN should it be locked again? My brother replaced 2 pieces of hardware after unlocking it (the SIM reader and the USB port) so not sure if that would have anything to do with it.
At this point I'm almost writing it off as busted. My friend on Rogers is away but thats the last thing I'd like to try is using a Rogers SIM
The only way to tell if its unlocked is in stock with a sim from another carrier, so if its a rogers phone dont use a rogers sim, when the phone boots it will ask u for the unlock code if its locked, if its unlocked it will just boot into android. Once its unlocked it stays unlocked forever, unless you change the memory chip, wherever that chip is i dont know
Posted w/xda app w/ i727R
MY STICKIES
| ROMS | KERNELS | FIRMWARE | RADIOS | HOWTO'S | GUIDES | INFo |
NEWB GUIDES TO: RESTORE TO STOCK | USE ODIN | INSTALL CWM | ROOT |
Yeah its unlocked then I guess. I only have non-Rogers SIM cards and its never prompted me since. Think I'll just trash it... maybe I can convince my brother to get a GNex since I know they work
Thanks so much for all the suggestions. Your patience and investment in this is very much appreciated!

im using rogers ics radio xlf3, seems all radios work with rogers or att.
i got some news for u, my problem was when i was in toronto i wasnt getting lte, i went to mobile settings and seen it was set to gsm/hspa, so i picked gsm/hspa/lte/ , but would not stick.
so i went into 2263 menu and picked lte, then "all" then left haptic button and hit "end", then i got lte.
when i got home there is no lte so i wasnt getting a signal, data or voice, and i could not pick an operator as none would be visible, nada.
so i did the 2263 menu and chose automatic then hit left haptic button and choosed "end", then bam got connected to rogers.
for mts its either gsm or wdcma in the 850mhz range, or pick all, you will have to test or try this procedure.
or try this is from seans old skyics instructions to get data working so it should work for voice but i edited for your needs, try w/out sim or with sim to see what happens, mine worked w/sim installed:
power off phone and remove sim card
then reboot phone (no sim card)
and when up go to phone and dial *#2263#
Select ? Settings(for u pick what mts has, maybe auto or wdcma and pick 850Mhz or all bands, this is where you will have to test)
then bottom left haptic button hit end
Open dialer again.
Dial *#2263#
select automatic
Right bottom feedback button/end
power down
now place sim back in phone
reboot
im almost sure your problem lies in the band frequency for mts, you just have to set it properly
edit: when you get into the 2263 menu see which item has an asterik next to it, thats the one currently set to
edit: it seems like the second item, wcdma, is the hspa band, which is mts's band, or try automatic
After taking a long time to arrive from Hong Kong, I tried putting my Wind SIM into the Optimus T but it would only go onto GPRS on Wind Away (Rogers). The settings said the phone was a p500, but after checking behind the battery, it really was a p509. I tried multiple methods of getting the 3G to work, such as flashing the branded T-Mobile ROM with KDZ, applying the old baseband and adding a Wind APN, but nothing worked. When I force the phone to go onto WCDMA, it cannot find the network. In addition, with the T-Mobile ROM, it does not say that I'm roaming when I'm on GPRS, like it should.
I scoured the forums for other answers, but haven't really found anything that helps. Any recommendations? Thanks.

Might help to say where your located since Wind doesn't cover all of Canada and if your not in Wind coverage zone then you will be stuck to roaming on Rogers 2G network.
I am in a Wind zone, as I receive nearly full bars of 3G from my Nokia 500. I originally bought the p509 to learn about Android development, but having 3G would be nice (the Nokia isn't that great of a phone ).
UPDATE/ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
-I have flashed mik's CM7, and the phone displays that it's roaming on the Rogers network (still on GSM, EDGE)
-My IMEI is displayed, as well as my phone number, but when I tried calling it from a different phone, it just says that I'm unavailable. It's only later on when I get a text message saying that someone tried calling me
-With the SIM card inserted, the Wind APNs for MMS and Internet are already added
-I was starting to suspect it has the wrong motherboard in a T-Mobile casing, but a production sticker on the inside indicated that indeed it was a 509
-LGMDP shows that the phone is using the old baseband (V10s), and is a p509
Any help is welcome, it's driving me insane since I can't seem to find the problem.
I have a mobilicity sim running on P509
do you want to try my sim on yours
or your sim on my phone?
where about are you? I am in burnaby bc area
Sorry, I'm in Ontario... I might ask a friend to try their Wind SIM in my phone and see if it works, but it probably won't. But I still don't understand; software-wise, everything seems fine.
I just bought a Fido Razr HD for connecting to Rogers network. To my surprise, I was able to connect to Rogers even though it is a Fido phone. Never the less, I paid and got the phone sim unlocked. But I noticed that my Razr never connect to LTE. It always shows it connected as H+, which I assume to be the HSPA+ network. I verfied the following:
-Rogers LTE APN for mobile - checked this against entries posted here on XDA for Rogers
-Network select set to GSM/HSPA/LTE (Auto)
I do get a strange error every time i change from another sim back to my Rogers's one, it says something like no suitable network -15, something like that. I assume my problem has to do with it being a Fido rom working on Rogers.
Am I missing something really obvious?
Thanks,

Have you tried configuring phone according to SIM?.. Configuring it according to sim will load Rogers ROM on it and it will install all Rogers crapware along on it. But i think if you don't see the LTE , it is worth trying. Also make sure your area have LTE coverage.

Yes I have already converted to crap Rogers bloatware rom. It does that automatically when you put in a Rogers sim. Now I got bloatware and still no LTE. My Rogers work iPhone is happily LTE'ing at like 20 mbps, this one is only doing 5 mbps, booo.

hmmm.. okay.. do one thing.. Go to setting and then mobile networks and Select network.. make sure GSM/HSPA/LTE (Auto Mode) is selected. Secondly, Remove the sim and restart the phone and then re-insert the sim and see if it works. If still it don't. Simplay factory reset it and check.
Just here to share my experience because I had a similar problem too.
I'm with fido carrier and got the razr hd with fido (in futureshop) which sucks.
Anyways long story short, same thing happened to me it kept on staying on H+ which I did speed test is only around 2-5 average...mostly 2max.
So I went in LOTS troubles finding out what's wrong and GUESS WHAT when I get the phone and the micro sim card with the sales HE SAID it IS LTE supported (because there are two different micro sim cards....one supports LTE and one doesn't)
Then I went through all troubles and finally had to talk to on of the representatives ONLINE and tell them to send me a LTE micro sim card.
For my fido sim card it does say LTE on it but don't trust the people you call you gotta force them to send you an LTE micro sim card because I called LOTS times to fido and some say on there should be LTE labelled on the micro sim and some say don't know and some say it shouldn't which pisses me off a lot until I did the ONLINE chat and they finally send me the LTE micro sim card and it works....
But one thing is don't expect to have LTE everywhere in Vancouver because as for now, I know I get LTE more in burnaby like near metro (but not in metro hahah...sometimes not always) and not a lot places in Richmond as for downtown not too sure because I went there 2-3 times only got H+ but I don't go there often.
At least i know LTE works which is the main point so I guess after all you have done, make make make sure your micro sim is LTE compatible.
P.S. for fido the LTE is included when I sign the contract so no charge to me for them to send me one but I'm not sure about rogers.
Hope this helps more or less.

Hey everyone, thanks for all the responses. Just prior to reading this thread, i came to the same conclusion that this is sim related as I put my micro sim into my girlfriend's LTE phone, it can only go up to HSPAP. I realized that it must be sim based. I was cheap and just cut down my old sim, i assume my old one did not support LTE on Rogers. And with this response I am 80% sure this is the problem. I will go pay 10 buck and enjoy blazing LTE tomorrow!!!
Thanks all!!

Oh they just letting you know....which I didn't say because it was a super long story that's why I briefly said it....somehow DO check if your rogers micro sim card says LTE or not on it because what I left out and didn't easy earlier was that I went to buy a micro sim card at the store and I asked for micro sim card...and at last they still only give me a regular micro sim card that's why I kept on confused if it does say LTE on it and went online chat to complain what happened. So double triple make sure or if you know someone in rogers store then it'll be good too. Because after I got the fake LTE they kept on saying on maybe because the tower delay wait for a day or two some said and some said few hours but guess what! when fido mailed me the LTE card the LTE works RIGHT AWAY....so ya...find a way to make sure the card is LTE micro.
After much research, and scouring this forum (which Id like to note is fantastic) - i am hitting a brick wall and at my wits end with my Doctors phone. (Doing him a favor)
Here's the preface. He purchased (off ebay) a "presumed" unlocked Rogers Galaxy S2 SGH-i727, and wishes to use his existing Straight Talk Sim card with it. The Sim is confirmed working in his previous older Samsung cell, which i also have, without fail.
He gave the GS2 to me claiming it wouldn't read the Sim, and i thought, agh just needs a root and rom, and maybe some radio switching. And boy am I humbled. This thing will not read a Sim if its life depended on it. Before I rule out a beat phone hardware issue, id like to see if anyone else could just advise me of some things.
1 How would I confirm this phone is indeed unlocked from Rogers, and if it wasn't would that cause a no Sim read issue?
2 To make this go from work from Rogers to Straight Talk, is their a ROM, Kernel, Radio, Band known to do the job?
At this point I've used Sk8's CWTouch for Recovery and it works great, current ROM i tried is a TMobile one (Juggernaught 5.0), Stock Rogers/ATT Radio, and i believe the Rogers Kernel as well.
Any help on this mess i've gotten myself into would be sincerely appreciated. Many Thanks!

under the battery does it say "i727r", if no "r" at the end its not a rogers phone.
if there is a "r" try a rogers sim card and pure stock firmware .
if no "r" try a att sim card on stock firmware
yes, there is definitely an "r" making it a rogers phone, being in the US, i have no access to test a Rogers sim, but also this needing to work on straight talk is the mission, otherwise i believe he may have to pursue another route unfortunately thanks so much

that was to check for a hardware failure for the sim card tray, you need to know before you can diagnose further, do a att stock restore then try a att sim card and see whay happens, nothing to lose
Vincom's suggestion is to rule out an actual hardware issue. On the other hand a non Rogers SIM should either work if it's unlocked or pop up the unlock dialog. Suggest trying an AT&T SIM since that's the closest to a Rogers. I have no idea about Straight Talk.
