I've tried several resets, I even restored a two day old backup made via spb backup and yes, have also gone into "connection setup" under connections and let it setup AT&T as my provider which subsequently asks for restarting the pda. Also, the HSDPA utility is still showing a check mark on HSPDA On.
All of the above have failed to get my phone back to 3G speeds. I've even tried to surf/download thinking maybe just the icon is showing "G" or "E" however its painstakingly slow now.
So, its either the "G" icon or "E" is what shows now. This all happened when I looked at my phone this morning after SPB backup had performed its scheduled backup that was triggered around 2:30am.
other than that... THIS IS AN AMAZING ROM BY DUTTYTHROY!! YOU RULE DUDE..
oh.. almost forgot: my radio is 1.27.14.09 which I've read that only works with the AT&T Tilt, which is what I have. Just an FYI.
Someone please help as I'm a heavy data user hence can't afford to be without 3G/HSDPA ... TY

WTF... Thats messed up! I've had this problem just today though. Also, my Tilt isn't unlocked to the best of my knowledge.
Please - somebody tell me this isn't true!!!

Cite your sources.
I get 3G/HSDPA just fine on my Kaiser, whenever at&t actually built out some towers.
When I first tried this rom (radio 1.27.14.09) I lost all connection with AT&T but after several hours and traveling into another area everything seemed to fall back in place. I've also noticed that the phone is very slow to reconnect after passing through blacked out areas, not sure why other AT&T phones lose connection but come back online much faster.
Otherwise the ROM is great.
Is it possibly something to do with your rate plan?
EDIT: nevermind I'm using a diff rom I think

I personally don't have any issues on the network. I'm running Dutty No.6 AT&T. Does this problem apply to a CID unlocked phone, a SIM unlocked phone, or both?

It shouldn't be my rate plan as I have the PDA unlimited for $39.99. Also, here's an update. This morning when I woke up my Tilt it was still showing E and my wishful thinking of Santa giving me a pre-christmas gift by fixing my phone (I'm easy) were just about drowned. ...however out of nowhere and without doing anything to the phone like soft-reset etc., the 3G icon came back and now its been coming back intermittently..
Now I'm pretty sure that its not that I'm traveling in a non-3G area and thats why its coming back intermittently as I live in a decent size metro area of Jacksonville FL and also because the areas I've been to this morning have always had 3G.. unless I'm wrong.. which I sure hope so..
BTW: I "downgraded" my Radio to 11.17 last night itself as one of the things I was trying to fix this issue. Just an FYI.
Here it is in a nutshell!!
Please note the following:
1) Got my new (unlocked) tytn II on dec 12.
*Sim in at 6:00pm. Had 3g & hsdpa till 10:00 pm. Went to bed.
*Dec 13th could not make calls or connect to data while on 3g.
*Calls would disconnect. Hsdpa message "the answering modem has disconnected "
* Switched back to gsm mode. Phone works but no 3g or hsdpa support.
*Dec 14 called att. Customer service said "unknown device" not supported.
*Transfer to data tech " Stated unsupported device" cant add the pda data package for $39.95. Stated my imei was blocked from 3g & hsdpa because of unlocked device status. But edge & gsm would work. Note edge & gsm modes work.
*Data tech said go to att store and get another branded att 3g device and use it to activate the pda data plan.
*I did this at 2:30 pm est. It worked for about 1/2 hour till 3:00 pm est. So much for my $39.95.
*Called att again & got a product support specialist(pr guy haha).he stated:
2) Att will not support an unlocked device.
*I said what about my $39.95???? I also said that i was a paying us att customer and was willing to pay for the high speed service. He said that they could no change my device unlocked status within the att network even though i was willing to pay for the data plan. I was pissed at that point. I told him that the hardware supports 3g & hsdpa and stated that att had locked a paying customer out of the 3g network. He said again "att does not support unlocked devices". I then asked him why i had access to the gsm & edge network and why att supported me on it and not 3g or hsdpa? I must have stumped him because he put me on hold. His reply after talking his boss was "att wil not support an unlocked device. We went back & forth like this until I Said "THIS IS BULLSHIP & HUNG UP.
* He call me back about an hour later because i threatened to switch back to verizon an stated " if you had the att original rom and if the phone was carrier locked it may change my device status" I said that I would give it a shot.
* Got the orig. att rom from here. Used sspl to apply cid per the reverting instructions. Phone said att 3g on startup & cid-8. Still no 3g. flashed hspl and bact to duttys rom 7.b for now.
In summary I can get the 3g & hsdpa signal but nothing works when connected! CAN YOU SAY CLASS ACTION LAW SUIT!!!
3G Test on AT&T network
How can we test if we are getting 3G speeds after changing our ROMs? I see the 3G and H logo's but don't think I'm getting the speeds.
Does changing the ROM unlock our AT&T phones?
Is there a ROM that is transparent to AT&T and allow us to use the 3G speeds?
Will reverting back to the AT&T Rom allow us to get the 3G speeds again?
newbie
Are you on drugs? , AT&T unlocks their phones, that does not matter , the reps you were speaking with are retarded they use a BILLING SYSTEM called TELEGENCE if you enter a IMEI wrong or of a unlocked device it gives back a UNKNOWN device message which means pretty much the reps can and if they dont want to , wont help you get your data working because they are lazy as ****. they do not block data on phones nor can they monitor your device to know what you are doing. their HLR's are only one way addressable.
Ok, I just upgraded to this ROM (cus duttys roms are amazing) after I read your post and...
I ran into some connection problems after my programs started looking for "my ISP" (isp.cingular) instead of "MEdia Net" (wap.cingular) In "advanced settings" in "connections" I re-set programs to run off MEdia Net, and it seems all is well
I think it might have switched when I was screwing with the comm manager and turned G3 off
DISCLAIMER: I'm a noob so take my advice with a grain of salt haha
No probs w/ ATT
My unlocked phone works just fine on the ATT network and i constantly get 3G UMTS and HSDPA speeds. Att does not block any device you are able to use on their network as they have roaming contracts with cell phone service providers across the world. If your device does not receive 3g speeds you can have your imei number added to the ATT allowed database just call 611 from your phone and talk to the service rep. If they give you any problem then call back and tell them you want to add the imei number of a wireless data card for computer and they will add that for you.
Must have been smoking the glass pipe!
Sorry folks.
This is a reception problem for me.
ATT really jerked me around.
The problem is a weak 3g signal.
If i dont have four bars 3g & hspda fail.
I went & sat under an att tower and everything works.
As soon as I drive away from the tower and the signal strength drops I loose 3g calling & Hsdpa.
Is there a fix.

Digg and random bloggers aren't really a good source. I remember the bullfrap article on Digg about Hummers being more environmentally conservative over a lifetime than any other green car.
have you tired having your sim card replaced? I had a similar issue where i was not able to call or receive calls in 3g but could on edge for a good day. Went to ATT and found out that others were having same issue with kraiser had them replace my sim card and everything worked great after.
Got 3G back and for good.... so far!

thanks for the tip jellorice.. I actually got my 3G back since yesterday and its been working great ever since. As for the sim being faulty, Thats something I didn't even think of and now that you've mentioned it, I'll keep in mind for future troubleshooting as I'm sure some other issue will crop up.
Nevertheless, Dutty's ROM 6 is UNBELIEVABLY AWESOME!!! I'm sure Dutty's gotten numb to all the kudos he's got and still is getting, being in Gazillions... but I wish I had better words to describe this ROM as for someone like me who is virtually bringing food on the table because of the Tilt (heavy business user), the key strengths of his ROM are just Marvelous.
Sry for getting sidetracked.. I got a little exited there.
I currently have an Atrix 4G working great where I'm from but I'm thinking about getting a skyrocket... Will it work with the same sim card my Atrix does...? Obviously it won't have the LTE speeds but I don't care... I also know I have to unlock it with cellunlockr.net that's not that big of a deal...
I did exactly the same thing. Had atrix aquired a skyrocket last week. Popd in my atrix sim could make calls but no data no text no web. So i called att . They need to know u have the lte phone u gota call and tell them or u will have no data they had to punch it in there system then i restarted my phone when she was done and i had data everything worked fine. But i do have anblte plan and wana use my lte so i went too att store this evening and they gave me and programed a lte sim card for free. But if your not uaing at&t obviously youll have to unlock the phone and in that case i dont see why it wouldnt work . Mines locked to att so they were the reason my data wasnt working
See why it wouldn't
I am one of the Atrix 4G people who have hopped on to the SGSIISR, Atrix 4G is used to work fine after unlocking in India. Just unlocked (by paying) last week the SR, I am pretty sure it will work. Will check out next time I am overseas.
You just have to make sure the GPRS/2G/3G/HSPA/LTE bands are supported by carriers wherever you want to use this phone. The phone will not support the T-Mobile 3G bands, so far as data is concerned you will get only Edge.
Does anyone here know anything about the regional carrier nTelos and its' CDMA network? I'd love to get the Nexus 5 but I'm not sure it'll work on my carrier.

I wouldn't bet on it. They may register it for text and talk, but getting data and mms working has always been an issue. It can be done, but it's a lot of grunt/guess work

Thanks. I was afraid of that. Do you know of any reliable way to set APN's on jellybean or KitKat?
nTelos has LTE launched in a few markets, and now they are selling LTE devices in Richmond even though the LTE network isn't up. (Phones are running on 3G). In theory, if the device is unlocked, you should be able to put an nTelos LTE SIM in the device and it should work. (I went by my local Richmond store and got a SIM card for my iPhone 5 and upgraded my wife's S2 to a Moto X). I can switch the SIMs back and forth between the two devices with no issues. I am trying to find someone with an unlocked N5 here in my area to test my theory, but the only person I know who has one is on T Mobile, and we work opposite schedules, so it's almost impossible to meet up.

You might not have to wait as long as you think. nTelos has launched LTE in Bluefield and Bexley in WV. The person who I spoke with also said that the remainder of the network should be launched by EOY 2014. I saw on an investor relations report that the actual claim is 70% POP coverage. The rumor that the rep told me was hopefully June/July for LTE here in Richmond.
I'll keep you posted on the N5!

Once you do meet up, the T-mobile / Unlocked aspect shouldn't really be an issue as the T-mobile device is the same unlocked device that everyone else in North America has. So far, no locked N5's have turned up

Well, that's positive news! nTelos uses band class 10 for CDMA and LTE bands 2, 4, and 25, so in theory, when an nTelos SIM is placed in the phone, it should register and work without issues.

Yep, but theory and practice are 2 different things
I do like the snap dragon 800 though, meaning there is only a requirement to have 2 devices worldwide. I'm pretty sure soon, qualcomm will be able to support more than the maximum 7 on one radio chip and maybe soon we'll start to see one worldwide device per release. That would be great. Until some other country decides to shun global standards and invents their own band

Exactly. Hopefully it will work though because I am interested in getting an N5. I have a nano SIM in my iPhone 5 and my wife has the same in her Moto X, but I do have a SIM adapter so, barring any setbacks, I should know this weekend if it will work.

I do. I am an nTelos dealer and flasher with my own flashing site going live as we speak. It can be done if you have CDMA workshop, otherwise I take mail-ins.
That's awesome! Link to your site? I'll check out when I can. I actually do have CDMA Workshop but no idea how to use it or what all I need to set up on the phone with it. I was afraid to go ahead and buy the phone because I didn't know if I could get it working.
Ok... So I had a friend attempt to try a Sprint variant of the N5 which he got at Best Buy... No dice. Couldn't figure out the carrier settings and it wouldn't make calls either. I tried a Play Store edition yesterday... Also, no dice. Same situation.... I have another friend that works at T Mobile that is going to grab one for me to try. I'm not giving up hope!!! I'm sure there is a way to get it to work, but when you go to network settings, if only allows you to connect to AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, T Mobile and 311 660 which I think is Metro PCS. There has to be a way to change the settings to be able to recognize the nTelos SIM card. The N5 supports CDMA Band Classes 0/1/10 and LTE bands 2/4/25, which should cover nTelos.... Not sure if the device is domestically locked to those certain carriers, and the international version would be a better try (I think it is only GSM though), but if someone can brainstorm a work around, I'd love to hear it!
Ok... Here we go... I might have stumbled upon something here on XDA that might help us out. I'm still researching it, but I wanted to post my findings here so that if anyone else s interested in looking into it, you can. You may have already seen this, and someone here commented about CDMA Workshop, and that is involved, so maybe (s)he could chime in and give us a helping hand as well?
The first link I came across was:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2619312
This looks to be a trial and error guide. I MAY be able to get my hand on some of the files that may be needed with a little digging around and some schmoozing with nTelos employees, so we will see what happens.
I posted in that thread to see if it will only operate on CDMA, or if it will switch over to LTE when it goes live (as long as there is a sim card in it). Waiting on a reply, so hopefully we will hear something back soon!

Ok well good deal! I hope you can get it working. Little word of advice though, all the phones are the same. Sprint, Play Store, doesn't matter they're the same.
Ok, well, I have gotten my hands on a Verizon S3 (boo for the locked bootloader), and when I throw my nTelos SIM card it in, it works for talk and text immediately, which isn't surprising, b/c the device is unlocked. You do get the Non-Verizon SIM message in the notification bar though. Well, anyways, I was able to take my jailbroken iPhone 5 and use an APN editor and recover the APN settings for it. I entered those into the S3 and BLAM! It worked! Data kicked over immediately!
Now here's my thought process... The S3 took the SIM for talk and text without issue, while the N5 wouldn't even read for that.... Even though the N5 is supposedly unlocked, could it still be locked down to the bigger providers, and not allow a SIM card from a smaller carrier, such as nTelos? I have heard of rumors of AIO Wireless SIM cards working, but that is an AT&T MVNO. I haven't seen anywhere posted that someone from, say, Alaska Wireless, or Cspire, or Republic Wireless using the N5.
Now, if there's a way to "unlock" the device to work with additional carriers, that would be great, but I'm not sure where to start even looking for any of that information. most comments you read about the N5 state that it is unlocked to use anyone's SIM card, which obviously isn't true. The phone seems like it wants to pre-configure itself with the SIM card. I did see a thread somewhere that people are able to get the N5 to work on Straight Talk on LTE with redoing the APN settings.
I need to get my hands on another N5 and replace the APN settings with the nTelos LTE APN settings and see if that works. If I can get that done, I'll let everyone know!!!
Ok... Here we go again... I'm posting here more of a "think out loud" type of post. I was digging through the Nexus 5 Q&A thread, and I came across something that might help out. *#*#4636#*#* That is supposedly how you get into the settings for an LG device to be able to change it's network type. I'm wondering that since I missed doing that with the last one that I had my hands on, if that might be why it didn't read my SIM card. I went by my local nTelos store last night to see if it worked on all LG devices since they have the F7 on display. I was able to go in and change it while I was playing with the phone. Some of the settings completely borked the reception, which is what I was hoping, but others worked just fine. I'm going to try and go by a local Best Buy later today and try it out on a display model there to see what I come up with. I'll post back here once I figure something else out.
Hello,
I bought my HTC Sensation about a year ago on Ebay. The seller claimed the phone was purchased outright and paid off. I checked the imei and it showed clean. When I got it, I popped my Airfire sim card into it and it worked fine. A month ago, I switched to Cricket as Airfire was going out of business. Cricket made me enter my imei. It said it was bad. I called T-Mobile and they said the seller defaulted on payments. They refused to help in any way. They told me to buy the phone direct from them next time. I told them I had proof I was buying it in good faith. They didn't care and apparently have no problem punishing the victim.
Anyways, when I got my Cricket sim and popped it in, my phone said I was roaming. It has said I was roaming for a full month now. I can send and receive calls, but my data is stuck at EDGE and some of the programs don't work since the phone thinks its roaming. I need to have "data roaming" enabled for data to work. Cricket ran some tests and eventually said I needed to do a factory reset.
So, I switched from the Android Revolution rom to the ViperS 5.2.1 rom. I did a full dalvik and cache wipe and reformatted everything but the sd card. I installed the new rom and kernal. Same thing. Phone still says I am roaming. Odd thing is, when I go to manually select carrier, my options are Cricket (current carrier), Airfire (previous carrier) and TMobile (stock carrier). Also, when I am using data, it has an "E" above the data. E is what Airfire used. Is there somehow somewhere a place that the phone is storing info through wipes?
I am s-off, rooted and debranded. I sim unlocked the phone myself. I am so stuck and think that only one of the geniuses on XDA are my only hope. I have went mental spending hours and hours on this. Some XDA peeps are smarted than HTC and Cricket combined, so please help me out here.
Thanks,
Grant

Hi grant, this is a very odd situation your in. With my sensation when I leave the UK and connect to another EU "partner network" is the only time my phone would jump into roaming mode. Is it possible that cricket is not directly supported in your area? Maybe they rent their local connection from another carrier and thats why your getting connected as roaming? Have you tried any other sim cards to see if they come up as roaming?

Hi heavy_metal_man
I am quite sure that At&t is Cricket's parent company so all of the towers should be At&t's networks. Also, I have checked it when in other cities and I get the same message, though I haven't traveled more than 30 miles away.
The previous sim with AirFire worked fine. I also popped out the sim for Cricket and put it in my mom's phone to see if it was the sim. Her's worked fine. She got the automatic Cricket update settings right away and was not roaming. Mine never got the Cricket pop-up so I had to manually enter all of the data info. Yes, odd indeed and I am lost.

Hi heavy_metal_man. Yup. Same info. Only difference is that the info all loads automatically on hers. I do get automated texts from Cricket when I put the sim in my phone as did she, but I had to get the APN info from Cricket the first time because it didn't auto load. I am still wondering if it is a sim issue, but I expected my mom's phone to be roaming when I put the sim in hers. I was shocked when it wasn't. She just has a free stock phone from Airfire btw. Nothing fancy and nothing done to it.

Hmm. Are those 3 carriers the only ones available to you? I think the imei may be key here, if cricket know its a T-Mobile phone they may register that you are roaming. I think your previous carrier (airfire) was a Virtual mobile network, much like giffgaff in the UK ( which runs on the o2 network.) As such they may not have inforced the same imei policy's that cricket does. But this is just a hunch as I am on UK networks and we do things much differently. If you could ask about any friends and colleges that have different carrier simcards from our previous 3 you could gauge what carriers your phone is compatible with.
Worst case scenario you could maybe buy another broken htc sensation and perform a motherboard swap. This would solve your imei issue, assuming that it was the primary issue. But check the simcards first and report back

Hmm... There are only 3 carriers available. Should there be more? It's not tied to the sim? Everyone I know either still has Airfire and plans on switching to Cricket or has cdma so I have been out of luck with trying another sim. The only other thing I thought about was 4ext recovery. No matter what I flash; roms, kernals, firmware or radios, the recovery always survives of course. So, if the previous carriers are surviving the flashes, perhaps there is a place on the phone like the recovery where they are surviving.

Its unlikely to be to do with the recovery, no reason for it to keep anything like that. It's most likely the phones imei at this point, though im unsure as to why this was not an issue for airfire.
Do you know what firmware version you have? Have you flashed 3.33 by yourself?

Yup, I flashed 3.33 universal after doing a super Cid. Well, maybe its time to just get a new phone, although I would really like to figure out this problem first. I am not the kind of person who can just drop things, lol.

I know how you feel. Maybe its because they cricket know the sensation 4g is a T-Mobile device and force you into roaming mode by default. I think its possible to overwrite the devices mid and cid, flash a sensation XE rom and effectively have a sensation XE. But such things can be quite dangerous and i couldn't say for definite if it would work to fix your issue :/ (not recommending anyone tries this without proper research and understanding :/)
Can you get access to another cricket sim without a contract? Just for testing?

I believe I have already done that. When I go into info about my phone, it says Sensation XE. It also registers as Sensation XE in the Google play store. I was thinking about telling Cricket to send me a new sim. Otherwise, I have no access to one at this time.

I think that it would be your best bet, although your device is probably showing up on the play store as an XE because of its build.prop from your custom rom, not any advanced MID changes. although you can check by using the command
Code:
fastboot getvar all
this will show your your mid, cid and your imei among other things.

I've worked it out! Its a frequency issue. Cricket apparently only support cdma frequency's, while the sensation only uses gsm frequency's. So in order to connect your phone is bunnying onto a local gsm service, which is then redirecting you to cricket. Hence the roaming! If you want off the data roaming you will need to either swap to a different phone carrier or buy a cdma phone

Hi heavy_metal_man,
Cricket did use CDMA for most of the time, but they have switched to GSM. They send a sim now and are trying to switch all of their old customers to GSM. What I am having trouble figuring out is what frequencies they use. Perhaps my phone is not quite compatible. I am having trouble with that as well. GSM arena, Phonescoop and the other major sites kind of have different data as far as my phone goes. My phone is called "HTC Sensation 4G" as far as I know. Yet, they list no 4g capability or frequencies. Of course, I believe that would only affect data and I still should not show as roaming.
I have been unable to figure out fastboot since switching to the viper rom. It doesn't use usb mass storage anymore. It uses the new system in which the whole phone is recognized as a storage device by the computer. Forgot what they called it. I wish they hadn't changed it, and apparently Windows 7 should recognize it by default, but it does not. I am sure if I get enough time to put into it I will figure out how to use the fastboot commands again.
I am ready to give up and just get a new phone pretty soon. Would be nice if Cricket's customer service wasn't so worthless. It could still be the IMEI or something on their end that I can do nothing about but they have failed to provide any solution.

Sorry for my delayed reply, I noticed that cricket swapped out to gsm and I discovered that their gsm tech is actually supplied at&t as they bought them out.
So I looked at their coverage map for the area airfire operated and I noticed that they had 2 or 3 area that were only providing 3g support via a partner, so I assume that would put you into roaming. It might be worth a look at their map and confirm if you reside on one of these black areas ?

So having recently upgraded from an unlocked T-Mobile device running on ATT, I was expecting that I would have better connectivity since the T-Mobile device I had didn't have support for a lot of bands. However I haven't had data work at all since setting up this phone.
Full disclosure, I'm on blackwireless. But it's an ATT mvno so I should still get their network.
But I'm getting zilch.
Talk and text are just fine, just no data.
I'm also not fully used to the interface on this phone cause my old one had actual "bars" in the icon and would also say LTE or 4g. Maybe both, is it sad that I've already forgotten just three days into owning a op7?
Firstly, anyone else an blackwireless, or ATT having issues with data?
Haven't yet called blackwireless because their support is 100% outsourced.
Had same with T-Mobile, it wanted me to sign in...and that page said this plan has no internet. So I called support, they ran a diagnosis but before it could finish ! Near the lte disappeared and it worked

Have you looked at your APN settings?
Sometimes it just doesn't select anything or it's empty!
You're right. That was the exact problem. I ended up calling the support line and it was a much better experience than I remember. And there were several apn to choose from. I just had to choose a different one according to their documentation.
Global version works just great with AT&T, no need to get tmo phone that just makes it more of a pain int the ass to go through the unlock process

I know. What I meant was my old phone was T-Mobile. My op7 I bought direct from OnePlus.com
