How to install a kernel ICS ROM? - T-Mobile LG G2x

Ok i installed aokp ics rom but I noticed the battery goes by real fast. So i thought maybe I should install a new kernel; problem is I do not know how to install a new kernel and I do not know if it is compatible with the aokp ics and wether or not it can mess everything up? so can anybody help me with this? Would Harsh Kernel P999 Build-0604 for ics rom work with the aokp ics rom and how would i be able to install it? Please help!!

Hi, I've bee using the harsh kernels with aokp since they have been available and think it is a great combination.
To install a kernel boot into clockworkmod recovery, clear cache, go into advanced and clear dalvik cache, then I usually fix permissions also in advanced(i dont know if this is necessary but i do it for piece of mind). Then go back and reboot system. That's it

How do i change the default htc kernel to something that allows overclocking?

As you all might know, the evo comes with a default htc kernel that doesn't let you go past 998MHZ. Im trying to overclock my evo. How do i do that? And what kernel should i use please?
Any help will be highly appreciated.

Most kernels other than stock will allow overclocking. Which ROM are you using? There are many kernels out there. One of the most popular is netarchy's.

Im using the default sense 2.2 rom. I tried all the roms i can get my hands on. Myn, cm6. 1.2, fresh, baked... didnt like them, so i was hoping i can change my kernel in sense 2.2 to netarchy or something... hopefully you can help.

Try any of netarchy's kernels. There is tons of information in his thread. Just put it in the root of your SD card and flash like you would any ROM. Wipe cache and dalvik cache before hand. For future reference you might get a faster response in the Q&A section. This section is more for developers and their creations.

Thanks ill look now and find the thread. Is it going to go to the correct directory if i just put it in the sd card, go in recovery mode and click on it? Thats what flashing is right? And sorry about that. Next time ill get it right. .

Yes, put it in /sdcard, boot into recovery, wipe cache and Dalvik cache, then install from sd card, browse to kernel zip file and flash.

Every phone seems to react differently, If I were you I would just read through netarchys thread ... the last 5 pages or so and get a feel of what they seem to like. It's easy to flash.. like the others said... do it just like a rom but ONLY wipe cache and dalvik cache.. DON'T factory reset or you'll have to start over flashing your rom.

read the thread that you download the kernel from first. some will say for aosp roms only. also make sure to do a nandroid backup before you flash anything. cant tell you how many times mine phone has rebooted into the boot loop after flashing something. good luck

Are you rooted? If you're rooted then any rom is a "custom rom". A sense 2.2 rooted rom is still technically custom, but, it can just be a pretty much stock rooted rom. So yea, you can try custom kernels.

thanks man...now i just have to find some kernels..
is this a good kernel for sense 2.2?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=883455
No, that's for AOSP only
I was under the impression that newer hardware and hboot versions couldn't use custom kernels so if that's your case I would be careful.

Wrong section I believe. This should be Q&A.
I'm using netarchy's kernel with stock hatch rom right now. More-havs smartass etc. Allows overclocking and great battery life.

G2x - 6 days and counting with no lockups/reboots

I just wanted to throw my 2 cents in for those who have had problems with their G2X rebooting or locking up and requiring a reboot. I update daily to the latest Cyanogenmod build and have already been going on strong for 6 days without a single reboot/lockup.
Before this, I was experiencing multiple lockups/reboots throughout the day.
Except for battery life, I'm happy with my G2X now.
Ditto.
CM7 is what brought sanity back to the phone for me.
Only reason I reboot is because I flash the dam thing every night.
Can't wait for the RC or stable release.
I guess I must be a lucky one. I haven't had any reboots or issues like that with my G2x. The only reason I rooted this phone was because I suspected the bloat was causing my Audio to studder. After rooting and installing then Ultimate G2x Rom with faux's stock kernel, I can say this g2x is now one of the best phones I have owned. I can't help but wonder how many issues with rebooting and what not would be solved by removing the Tmobile and LG crapware they put on this phone.

Same setup here and no reboots or freezes or anything like that.
I'm running the stock ROM rooted with the faux kernel and I've NEVER had any rebooting or freezing.

Same with me, stock with faux. I also applied paul's fix.
Are you using the pre-UVed kernel? Did you UV even more? Right now I'm undervolted -25mV in addition to the -50mV in the kernel
The only rom that gave me trouble was the unofficial GB leak. Every few hours the phone would be off in my pocket.
All other roms ran like a champ. Been running CM7 since #0, only straying to try other roms for a day. No complaints.
To OP, CM has always been rough on battery life. Try using another kernel and you should get more life.

yea u would def have to restore your stock nandroid backup, because no one has just the stock kernel from lg u can flash, so yes u would restore the backup, then if u wanted to flash the kernel wipe cache and dalvik then install fauxs kernel and your good.......also and if u dont like it which u probably will, just restore the backup again, and u should really try ebfroyo 1.0.5 it looks just like gingerbread and u have the stock camera app and its so quick, awesome rom
Im def going to give ebfroyo a try! Thanks for the help bro!

I've been searching for gapps froyo with no luck...I'm on my phone and dont have a computer available at the moment, can someone help please? Sorry, thanks!

Rooted Fine But Roms Won't Install

Hi Guys,
I have my phone perm-rooted....BIG THANK YOU....but I can't seem to get any custom rom to install except for Mikshifted 1.6. I've tried several AOSP roms, Cyanogenmod and Miui and they just stay at the HTC white screen. I've wiped everything and still no go. Any help is appreciated.
Did you wipe data, cache, and dalvik 3x before each install?

That's your problem, your using an old recovery. Download ROM manager from the market, open the app and at the top you'll see flash recovery. Once you updated your recovery you should be good.

Answering a call

Hi all
When I receive a call, it takes ages until I see it on the screen, so I can actually reply it. Is there anything that I can do to improve it? This is the thing that annoys me the most.
thanks

People only conplain of that lag when they are custom roms first time on stock rom(correct me if im wrong dont have a fantastic memory ) maybe try a reflash? Or OC or wiping data and/or wiping cache and dalvik cache
EDIT: i dont believe wiping cache and dalvik cache will help but try it out first and if it works you'll save yourself the trouble of restoring data after a reflash or factory reset

what about any mods of your own like scripts kernel flashing etc
If so reflash stock jpu
I am currently using stock jpu and I think its fast even better than certain custom ROMs
I don't really know. I just have OC kernel, the rest is all stock rom. The problem is that the stock kernel (more stable from my point of view) haven't got the recovery, so I flashed g3mod kernel... actually my phone is fast, stable and i have no FC's at all, the only problem is that, but is a very important problem as is actually a phone! not anything else... would check for any improvement...
thanks a lot anyway
If everything is stock and unrooted like mine, then calls work perfectly. They just lag a little when ending the call.

Cannot Install Custom Kernel

This is a strange problem that I only started to have once I installed Team Nekkid 7.2 RC dated 3/29.
I can flash the ROM no problem, wipe dalvik and fix permissions and I'm good to go without any issues. But if I flash the ROM, then either morfic or faux kernel, then gapps, when I go to wipe dalvik, all I get is a quick screen flash with no option to actually wipe dalvik.
I go back and wipe the overall cache completely, fix permissions, the reboot. I am now stuck at the morfic boot animation until i pull battery.
If i try to install a Faux kernel, same thing happens with dalvik, but gets stuck at the blue LG screen.
Once i battery pull and get back to CWM, i wipe everything, reflash ROM and gapps, wipe dalvik and fix permissions no problem and boot up into whatever ROM i choose.
EDIT: Went back and flashed Bionix 1.4.1 and was able to flash a Faux kernel and wipe dalvik. Booting up this ROM now.
I also have NO problem with ICS ROMS/kernels.
When you say NO PROBLEMS with ICS ROMs, does that include Google Maps and the stock browser working perfectly??
Which ICS ROMs have you tried? How is battery life?
Thanks!

I did all of that. I flashed the kernel before and after gapps but end up with the same result.
I have a feeling there is an issue with the CWM since I am constantly flashing roms/kernels and have never had these problems before. I'm at work so I cant use the Nvidia tool to flash CWM so I have to wait until I get home.

I usually just follow the instructions precisely by the OP. (Wiping/formatting, flashing rom, gapps, restart + let 10 min stand if required by OP) I have not installed another kernel that what the ROM has included. Should I try that? If yes, which one? I currently have EGB AOSP ICS 4.0.4
[UPDATE] Ok I got it now. Just read your last message

I've tried 3 different ICS roms and read hundreds of posts and found nothing that would fix the maps and browser issues. I guess I have to wait a bit more for the devs to work on them. Maybe the lack of drivers is the problem.

My main concern is Google Maps not working properly. I rely on it in my job a lot and can't have it blanking out on me like that.
I've tried the replacement solution for the stock browser - I installed Dolphin HD. I'll try Firefox, though. Haven't used that on a phone since I had the Nokia N900 - Ah, the good times when I still believed in Nokia

If the maps shows up and then goes blank, simply close the map and re-open it.
I know the close/reopen "trick," but I thought there might be a ROM that just has the Gmaps working. If there's none I'll just wait. Is Owain's unofficial 55 based on 4.0.4 ? I'm also going through his thread now in hopes of finding it. I'll probably just flash and see then.
