Rooted Fine But Roms Won't Install - EVO Shift 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Guys,
I have my phone perm-rooted....BIG THANK YOU....but I can't seem to get any custom rom to install except for Mikshifted 1.6. I've tried several AOSP roms, Cyanogenmod and Miui and they just stay at the HTC white screen. I've wiped everything and still no go. Any help is appreciated.

Did you wipe data, cache, and dalvik 3x before each install?

That's your problem, your using an old recovery. Download ROM manager from the market, open the app and at the top you'll see flash recovery. Once you updated your recovery you should be good.

Thank you! Flashing to an updated Tom did the trick.

Battery Mod Gingerbread 2.3.2

This is a battery Mod for the new Gingerbread Roms 2.3.2, should work on all 2.16 builds. 1% Battery
*CWM Recovery 2.5.1.3 may be the best recovery to flash this Mod*
1.Backup
2.Install via CWM
Let me know if there are any issues!
V2. Bootanimation.zip taken out
What does it do exactly ?
It will add the battery percentage, as in the picture. If you have the new Gingerbread 2.3.2 Rom this will work.
Will it install the boot screen automatically? I just want the battery mod.

I can take it out if you like, then it would just be the battery %?

Just for your Info I used this mod on RC MIX 4g 4.0 Works great on his rom.
Great! I'm on Android Revolution..... But as long as it is a 2.16 build it should be fine.
flashed ontop of AR 4.0 b1 and I am now stuck in a bootloop with the Android bootanimation.... Just flashed the latest version v2 as well.....

You need to wipe dalvik and the card partition. Then flash. It will work after that. Restore you back up and flash again.

I am on the same Rom and it works. Just restore your backup, try clearing Dalvik cache and card partition. As long as you are on a 2.16 build it will work. So that should include every Gingerbread Rom that was built off the Gb leak.

[Q] How do I install a Theme?

I just got a inspire 4g and rooted it. I flashed honey3d after a full wipe. How do I go about flashing the themes that are available for honey3d? go into recovery and flash the theme as you do a rom?
thanks
yep same as a rom. wiping dalvik cache is a good idea before flashing the theme but not mandatory. option to wipe dalvik is in your advanced menu in cwm recovery.

Sam is good about having properly ported themes available for his Honey builds, which makes getting themage just a flash away. Just a tip - I learned this the hard way - when you get the itch to try other themes, or another ROM and theme what you will want to watch out for is your Roms Build number, sometimes refered to as its Base, Base Build etc. Honey 3D is 1.35 or 1.37(?) So any themes not ported by Sam or the team would need that same base. Different Roms, updates, phones, etc, will have different bases, so you will want to make sure your chosen theme is made from the same foundation.
I thought my phone was dying - I was flashing and downloading, reflashing, wiping, and everything in between only to realize I couldn't just find a sweet theme and flash it and all be well. Anyways - best of luck!
ok, thanks!

Clockwork Failing? help?

ok, so I picked up the Cappy tonight, did alot of reading,
PLEASE NOTE, I have a Rogers Galaxy S Captivate SGH-I896, On Froyo 2.2
I successfully rooted the device with superoneclick,
downloaded Rom Manager, Flashed Clockwork recovery for Galaxy S Captivate
Reboot to recovery, select re-install packages, FAILED Signature...and aborts,
What am I doing wrong here?
Is there a better method? Every guide I read said to do it with rom manager...do I need to flash the stock rogers GB with bootloaders? then retry clockwork again?

soooooo.....
you didnt actually SEARCH for the ACTUAL ERROR MESSAGE that you got?

Thanks thats exactly what i needed, i now have cm7 loaded up.
one question tho, while cm7 would install fine i initially tried to flash the ICS port by teamhacksung and it resulted in a bootloop, is there some step im missing? are someupdates only installable from internal sdcard?
You must be on a mtd based rom, which cm7 is, (touch wiz roms are bml based) before flashing to ics. U should be able to flash ics with no problem now.

ok will give it another shot!
Enjoy, it's quite different
Well, ics successfully flashed this time.
Only difference from my last attempt was I flashed a cm7 nightly instead of stable, also once on cm7 I flashed a newer radio as well as the glitch kernel. Dunno what had affected it before but its now running nicely on ics build 9.
Thanks for the help guys, I guess where I got hung up is where cwm resides in the kernel on this device? Where on all my htc's we simply flash cwm over the stock recovery. Anyways thanks again!

The glitch kernel is not compatible with ics, as of yet. It was over written when u flashed ics I'm pretty sure.
Well being completly new to this device was a lot of learning, I still have no idea what I did wrong initially to get stuck in bootloops, but I somehow managed to get cm7 working and then up onto ics so all is well as far as I can see now. Its a backup device for us so I'm pretty sure I will only be flashing ics as it matures. Must say the ics on the cappy is pretty far ahead in terms of usability compared to the desire z, great work here from your devs! And thanks for the pointers guys!

How to install a kernel ICS ROM?

Ok i installed aokp ics rom but I noticed the battery goes by real fast. So i thought maybe I should install a new kernel; problem is I do not know how to install a new kernel and I do not know if it is compatible with the aokp ics and wether or not it can mess everything up? so can anybody help me with this? Would Harsh Kernel P999 Build-0604 for ics rom work with the aokp ics rom and how would i be able to install it? Please help!!
Hi, I've bee using the harsh kernels with aokp since they have been available and think it is a great combination.
To install a kernel boot into clockworkmod recovery, clear cache, go into advanced and clear dalvik cache, then I usually fix permissions also in advanced(i dont know if this is necessary but i do it for piece of mind). Then go back and reboot system. That's it

[Q] GPS does not work with Cm7?

I can't seem to find any roms that fix the Cm7 no GPS issue.
I tried this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1250226
after I installed it onto my Inspire, my phone just white screened. I uninstalled and recovered from my back up.
It's not a major thing to have GPS, it's just easier when getting directions in L.A.
Does anyone have the ROM everyone else seems to use? Whenever I find an old thread that links to it, the link is dead.
Thanks.

Are you using a stable rom or nightly? Which version of CM7 and did you get it from the cyanogenmod website? Did any other rom (including stock) have issues with GPS?
Perhaps downloading the rom again and installing it might do the trick.
Have you tried installing the GPS audio fix file for inspire.it worked for me.Also you should try cm9.it's working very well for me.
Inspire 4G CM9
I have been using this, and it seem to work for me with any ROM.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=28111523&postcount=21767
I am using a stable rom. I used the once ace hack toolkit and then downloading CM7 from their website.
Thanks for the QR code!!! I am trying it right now.
Thank you so much for that QR code!!! Rebooted and installed easy peasy. Now works faster than ever!
ROM update
When you flash an update to your existing ROM, do you have to do a wipe again?
