switch to the nexus? - HTC Sensation

Hi.
My lokal shop got the nexus on an offer for around 150$ + my sensation. is it worth the upgrade, or should i skip it?

I say skip it. Your sensation can do everything the gnex can. It would be a waste

But you stand to get updates and development well into the next nexus device that comes out.

I'm not so sure about that anymore...Google cant update Nexus S to ICS properly and some GNex are still running 4.0.2 when 4.0.4 is out

Kind of true...
But that is where the main advantages of the Nexus over the Sensation ends. The Sensation has much better hardware in general, except for just the screen.
But that deal is a bit of a rip-off, so no.

I suppose I should say that when I see Android Headlines on my feed, I usually see roms or updates for the nexus devices and the sensation.
The sensation is purely off of development, while the Nexus devices naturally get a first look at updates.
To answer the original scenario - your Senation + $150? I say 'no'. Thats break even moneywise, so why give up a great phone to break even?

the only thing i see good in nexus is that it has stock AOSP ICS whyle the sensation is still in development, but still i wouldn't take the nexus...

our sensation is better, don't do it!!

Agreed.
I say skip it, and go for the next one. Or one of the HTC One series, or the upcoming Galaxy S3.

Id stick to the sensation for developement on their forums only roms you see its just cm9/aosp all roms basicly the same ..
Over here we got multiple choice such as sense3.0/3.5/3.6/4.0 miui/ cm7/cm9 and so on ... And hardware is better than the gnex only the screen doesn't beat it and i also heard battery life is horrible on the gnex because of signal issues..

I've had the Nexus S 4G since launch and at this point, it's going to take a lot to pry this phone out of my hands.. It is still easily the best god damn phone I've ever owned and with ICS coming there is really no end in sight for exchanging it for something else.

Speaking only for myself, not a chance. I love this phone.
I think you really will enjoy the Nexus. Its a great phone. I hope to always keep a Nexus in the stable.
I feel the same way, I will most likely always have a Nexus variant if not collect each one.
I wouldn't trade my nexus for anything other than the galaxy nexus. I got mine on the launch day last year and still loving it.
You should definitely trade. I have both and except for the dev support and screen, the sensation is better in everyway. And sense 3.5 on it is BADASS. ONLY carrier overlay that is worth a **** IMO.
I have both the Nexus S AND the Sensation. I like them both almost equally. Although, I do like the way the Sensation feels in my hand a little better. But....YMMV.
It's a tablet dammit! Not a BIG phone....
I wouldn't, it's a marginal hardware update, and then there's sense, which in all of its variations I just don't like. I follow there cm7 though, looking fairly stable at this point. That's a plus if there's one. This is just my opinion, not trying to start a flame war or anything

So true, I'll never buy another bloatware-laden locked down phone evar!!!!
I broke my HTC Desire HD, and as I had to buy a new device, the best and cheapest choice was the Nexus S (LCD here in France, far better than amoled picture wise).
There is only two thing the Nexus S is better than the DHD, its screen with better colors and backlight, and the useless but funny toy: nfc chip. Ah, another one : easy device unlock and rooting !
If I could afford it, I'll buy a Sensation or Incredible S, or even Desire HD any time.
Better alu case, better overall feeling with HTC devices, better camera... More Ram, and so on...
Maybe worse in benchmarks, but overall use experience much smoother and less laggy.
Now HTC devices are again unlocked, so MIUI is again available on theses rigs, so if you have to choose between a Sensation or a Nexus S, I'll choose the the HTC every time!
As you already own a Sensation, from my point of view, you are going a step down, maybe two...
But it is only my opinion.

Agreed, I hate all those custom UI's, AOSP FTW!
i think i would swap
but im waiting for the next nexus if i can hold out. i realize i need dual cores. i multitask way to much.
i also want a rock steady gps and the nexus s is flaky at times
i also need a better camera. after the epic i have been spoiled
i might not find the camera portion in the new nexus. i will hold out for the gs3 if i have to get it shipped.

Android 4.0

Soooooo, ever since the release of the nexus galaxy sporting the new adroid 4.0, i wondered, will we get the update, and if not, is there a way to replicate the look of the deivice theme wise,i love the way it looks!
HTC has not confirmed nor denied the Inspire will be getting ICS. I'd bet not, and if we do it will take a LONG time, or one of the devs here will port it.
In the mean time, if you head over to the Android Development and Hacking section, and check out the Android Themes sub-forum there are a lot of different launchers and themes with ICS flavoring.

I agree with him on the themes portion. There are MANY themes that are ICS, and many of them work well, and look VERY smooth.
Concerning ICS and the HTC Inspire. Looking at the specifications of the Galaxy Nexus, the Inspire has the internal components that can handle ICS. The processor for the Inspire is faster than the Galaxy, and so on. The only difference between the two is that the Inspire has dedicated soft keys on the home screen, whereas the Galaxy Nexus will have the home screen buttons as part of ICS itself.
Also, after talking to HTC, they're currently looking into how they can roll out ICS updates for as many phones as possible. I also read somewhere that most of, if not all, 2.3 phones WILL receive the update. Until then, continue looking at the forums and wait until a recognized developer ports to Inspire. Hope this helps!

Not sure where you got your information from but this isn't even close to be correct.
But, I'm sure we will see ICS on the Inspire fairly soon after Google releases the source. Whether its from the CM team or a different dev.

I wish all we had to worry abut was when HTC was gonna release it but we have to wait for ATT as it will be them that finally releases an official release for our phones. It may not happen and we will have to use a port from the DHD which only has to wait for the HTC
thank yoiu alll! and i didnt know we could go to the general android theme section and use themes from there lol, i thought we had to use the themes in our designated section only

G2x to HTC Sensation

I'd say the sensation is a step up but I'm not exactly a non bias party tho.
There are currently no roms containing ics. There is a major alpha Rom under development.
Make sure to get yourself a case and maybe an mhl adaptor. Some nice headphones wouldn't be a bad idea either
Currently the arhd roms for sense 3.0 and 3.5 are very well built and do wonders for efficiency and performance. It just depends what your looking for in a Rom

OK thank you! The big reason is that I personally think a 4 inch screen is too small for me. Don't get me wrong I love stock Android but I always need to change my phones customization that's why I love sense. And I love the build quality of HTC phones. And the g2x's Rom development is dead. Basically.

ya i agree about the build quality and the sense being a top selling point. i love the sensation and with it being one of the few devices getting ICS first (at least as of now) the development should be going strong for at least 6 monthsd from now.
That is a long time in android years lol

i have both phones and have the sensation as my daily. while i like the sensation slightly more i must say the sense is what keeps me. i hated sense until i really started to use it and im now hooked. i also think though that the g2x has a much sharper and nicer screen.
performance wise i have tested both side to side and the only thing the lg wins in testing over the sensation is neocore (nvidia processors). 78.9fps to 60fps. however linpack and quadrant the sensation takes the cake.
generic testing i know. but it does help to some degree.

I'm not trying to say the sensation screen sucks. As a matter of fact the resolution is greater than the the one on the g2x. However I must say that the screen seems richer and sharper on the g2x. Just my 2 cents...

I have both the G2X and the Sensation and I like the Sensation better. The G2X seems faster and benchmarks faster, but both are fast enough and the bigger screen on the Sensation is my main reason..
I also have a Tmobile Galaxy S2 but I actually do not use it anymore and switched back to the Sensation because the S2 is too big, it is hard to use with one hand and a pain to carry around..
All 3 have custom roms on them and whichever gets a stable ICS first will be my new daily use phone...
the s2 looks amazing and has amazing specs. seeing as you have all three phones is it hands down the best for performance outta the 3? also i love the screen but i think 4.3 is about the biggest id need.
Yea okay I'm definitely switching because the g2x has a nvidia processor and there is no way there going to give the drivers out. So no ICS for the g2x until the official release.

This is ICS behaviour - it replaces the pop up that appeared when you long pressed in a text box component on earlier Android versions that allows you to configure your input method.
If you test and/or use alternative keyboards or other input methods that shortcut is a blessing imo... if you don't need them, it could be annoying but you get used to it almost immediately.

That's the smallest thing htc had to do! A phone that comes out with a certain version of android will always be updated to the next one... The problem is when htc has to update the sensation to jellybean... Imo the sensation won't ever receive an official jellybean update unfortunately

So we're paying for updates now? God forbid we actually enjoy the phone, but screw that noise, can't enjoy a great phone if I know I've only gotten one major OS update.
Get real. Who cares? The phone launched with 2.3, you got an update that bumped it all the way to 4.0.3, I'd say that's plenty.
We will get Jellybean someday...that's why we have XDA!
No seriously but I have to admit, HTC have no quality control. HTC sense looks pretty, but slow as hell, even with tweaks.
Touchwiz 4 is so buttery smooth, even if it isn't as attractive it is efficient and when i payed for this phone back when both came out I expected some decent usability and speed.
Timescape UI is also so refined. My dads Xperia arc runs smoother on a single core on timescale compared to dual core powered sense. This was my first and last HTC device

Yeah the Sensation will never see an official Jelly bean in my opinion. But there really is no doubt that the Sensation will have ROMs with the next I would say two too three Android OS versions. It just has the hardware specs to be a device that will handle future OS updates.

You have a point, but I personally feel like the Sensation has the ability to continue to get every new Android versions like the HD2 does. The development community for this device is pretty outstanding in my opinion.
Oh and remember the Sensation, as well as all Android smartphones, got locked out of Android 3.0 as it was just for tablets. I mean Google did finally drop the source code on it when the released ICS. But with ICS being for both phones and tablets, I do not really see anyone making the effort to get 3.0 running on a phone now.
I don't see fully why not. I know for a fact it will be able to handle it because the desire c or whatever will definitely get it along with the one v and they are single cores. HTC brought ics to the desire s, why not jellybean to the sensation?

I still haven't had the chance to upgrade. I been wanting a galaxy nexus, but haven't found a price that suits me. Even my tmobiles contract is about to be up in October. Now htc one x plus is around the corner. How many of you guys are waiting for the one x plus.

Pretty much. I have no contract so I just buy my phones used (got this one for 200 six months ago) or full price, and I'm probably going to wait another generation for the next Nexus phone. Until my Sensation can't do something serious, there's no reason to upgrade other than to get something new.
I will, however, be considering a tablet with a keyboard like the new Surface that Microsoft is releasing. That is, once I see the price.
