while I agree it could be nice to have an update, you should keep in mind that ICS or not it doesn't change much... I mean, the SGS II got the update and with the touchwiz and all you can barely see the difference. Plus your phone won't get any faster so... Better hope for a custom ICS ROM for your phone than from Samsung

Signed.. Rediculous.. ICS was released in December, it's April, and still there is no Update.. And even if there would be one.. with the damn ugly TouchWizz
On Samsung you will always get touchwiz..its not a nexus its not android sorry.. but I signed it for you

True, if I knew more about Android, I would make another choice.
By the time they push the OTA update the next best thing will be out. Find a good Rom. Will benefit you more

How many petition have we made? and do they really have any effect?
I did not want to mention a rival company, but Sony updated its entire Xperia line of 2011 to ICS, which means your competitors have realised that their customers don’t deserve to be frozen out.

Actually, they just pushed back the release date for ICS recently. We were supposed to get it in mid-march, but the WT19i will get it around end of may/early june. I bought my SE WT19i because they promised the upgrade for ICS, but two weeks ago they mentioned that if they couldn't make their rom perfect, they would even skip the 2011 line, and give ICS only for the 2012 line.

Also checked out the Jw4 value pack... meh. I liked the snap stills while recording feature, and the face lock with blink did sound great but execution was lack luster. My wife's GS2 phone seems to laggier on tw ICS than it was on tw GB.

One one hand that sucks, but given what I saw on Sammy's Touchwiz version of ICS it could be for the best. Sorry have not played with the Xperia line, don't know how Sony UI is. They seemed a little more concerned with refinement. But all OEMs are dragging their feet on this.

U r not getting the point ...when Samsung releases a rom or the libs , XDA devs can work full-on on custom roms like cm9,aokp etc ...no one cares for Samsung's roms we want the libs and some base ics rom to start off with...
Our cm9 port is yet to get a working camera and everyone is going crazy asking for ETAs
you know you are rooted when you use XDA more than FB
don't think that petition can solve the problem.... :-(
I have the Galaxy tab (first generation).
What Samsung said about Honeycomb: The size of the screen, 7''. (!?!?!?!?!?!?!?)
What Samsung said about ICS: Hardware. (!?!?!??!)
What I say for samsung: No more. Asus and Sony, wait for me.
PS: Samsung will do nothing, the only thing that wants is MONEY, MONEY AND A LOT OF MONEY.
True... At least they should release libs and files

You obviously have much better understanding then some of those who are new XDA, most likely because you own a device directly affected. Of course I and evolsam don't know all the nuances like you do. I myself only just noticed the SGS2 ICS ROMs are not as refined yet as the GSS ICS ROMs. The Galaxy S has had to port over most of the ROMs. Which has gone over quite well so why would it not seem like an answer for other Galaxy devices like the Ace and W. Barring an explainantion, the need for code source release in these cases is not something that is readily apparent.
Anyways I now know, and of course I'll sign, anything to aid the devs. That's all you needed to say or anyone needed to say. Maybe more like evolsam will then too.
Don't think that petition can solve the problem.... :-(

No, there's not such ROM... developpers still work on Froyo... the others wander whether G3 supports or not Gingerbread and whether Samsung will support or not Gingerbread on G3...
Samsung won't release gingerbread for our phones, I can guarantee you that. We're lucky if we get froyo.
First, is the hardware limitation
Second, there's no point for samsung to officially release it to our phone. We're not paying them anything anymore, It's much more profitable to release a new phone with gingerbread in it. That's how biz-nes works.
@thom47 there is NO hardware limits... if phone runs froyo it can also run gingerbread

I know it can run it technically and people can cope with it, but can Samsung agree to the performance of it is a different thing. But well, we're not getting it anyways so let's not get our hopes up

I agree,
a stable Froyo + some usable custom ROM is much more important then still a newest version.
There are not significant advantages - and our hardware (no 3d acceleration, no JIT) has its limits

Why should JIT be a matter of hardware?
MAD-Team has enabled JIT for the G5 too...
Anyway it's very cool to have gingerbread because of the lock animation

The answer should be No......
ICS is supported by the smartphones which can handle Gingerbread...
because it is said that both have same requirements...
According to samsung ...our G3 is not designed for GB update....
So how can they update it to ICS ????
Even i would be too happy if i get wrong in the future.....but sadly we think that there will be no GB as well as No ICS update for G3

its the next update from Google...After gingerbread(GB)...
Froyo>>>GB>>>ICS
100% sure we are not going to get it officialy. we didn't get GB, how do we expect to get ICS? I doubt that samsung galaxy S will get updated to 4.0 by greedy samsuck. they will make the new nexus, it will have 4.0 exclusively for like 6 months, and then they will update SGSII after 6 months of their customers crying for an update... Samsung has no love for their customers, especially for those with less money. We can only hope that our devs can make a port of ICS. GO DEVS!
bro..,,who said we dont get ICS...
samsung galaxy mini which is lower config than galaxy 3... got gingerbread update...
what the hell....why we dont get any gingerbread or ICS...update...
very disappointed with...SAMSUNG...very poor support...
answer is no , we will not get ICS
ICS is supported by the smartphones which can handle Gingerbread...
too bad that we will not have a sandwich, but also too good that we have wonderful Devs to port it
Maybe we can port a cyanogenmod ics if ready...?
well, i read that gingerbread has the same system requirements as froyo, so it could handle ics as well. but i bet we'll never see an official update from our dearest company, samsung, so... maybe somebody will port it.
hope dies last...
Our phone can handle gingerbread (we have cm7 that is 2.3.5, remember?), if it can handle gingerbread it can handle ICS. Problem is samsung want's you to buy a new phone witch has ICS preloaded. Most of the current smartphones that have gingerbread won't get ICS just because the manufacturers want you to buy a new phone every half year.
i really like samsung phones, but the back-up and service from samsung after you have parted with your money is pretty dire, almost as bad as their wonderful kies program!
i think that the company like most companies aim to profit, so they make cheap phones so we buy it, and provide little support so we buy another cheap phone with the latest updates and so on, but thank god we are talking about android here, so we have devs that we support to port the newest updates
go devs yeaaah

do you know that many phones having much lower specs than galaxy 3 are running gingerbread as smooth as Froyo eg. Wildfire
& in the official launch of gingerbread it was started that if your phone can run Froyo it can run gingerbread smoother than it.
"Galaxy 3 us not upgradeable"that's what the Samsung is selling us,N'djamena those *****es care only for the the pre profit they can generate, which acc. To them would be affected as consumers wouldn't buy new launches.
I tell you G3 can run gingerbread & may be ICS also.. You want proof? Its already running 2.3.5 CM7..
BUT, if you expect it will official it is no neuter than a day-dream..
So, better request our AWESOME DEVELOPERS TO PORT IT & SUPPORT THEM IN ANY WAYS WHEN YOU CAN IN THIS ENDEAVOUR!

apparently there are no major perfromance increases in ICS but mostly just UI changes so this increases hope for us....besides, phones like the lg optimus one can run honeycomb itself so, evn tho the G3 is a less performing than the lg O1, it shud b able to support ICS
G3 may get ICS in form of CM9 (depends on marcelusbe ).
I have read on CM forum that CM9 (will be based on ICS) can run on all the fone which has -
RAM : 256 MB
Phone must have GPU
lets hope for the best.
ics does run better.. gingerbread and ics are designed to run faster.. even on low end phones but we will have to port it.. samsung wont:S

Very little hope of that too. He's got no time for the i9003 and its just lying around somewhere in his house. This phone is one of those unfortunate ones that no one seems to care about or even remember. ROM Manager still doesn't recognize it, most forums don't even acknowledge its existence and Samsung doesn't give two rats about it.
You either have to live with GB, wait for someone to port CM9 (unlikely) or maybe IF Samsung decide to throw a 4.0.x update at it later or just move on to another device that is actually popular and supported by the larger dev community.
I personally got frustrated and went for the Galaxy Nexus but I still have my i9003 and care about it. Its a pretty good device but one of the least supported. The Optimus Black, Droid X and other similar phones have plenty support. Even the super cheap low-end LG, HTC and Samsung phones have more support than the i9003. Its just a mystery why! Samsung just didn't release this device in enough countries.

Pretty sad considering that the original GS and its US variants are basically the Nexus S which already has the update.
At least they left the device running nicely on Gingerbread (even if you need to use ODIN to upgrade depending on your region)

If you guys still are in hope of ICS for the i9003, go HERE and sign the petition.
Remember to add the optional message and mention the i9003.
Keep it civil though.
So sammy doesn't seem to honor the 18 months update schedule? Original i9000 was released long ago and i9003 deserves ICS according to the plan...
its not official
i9003 has not completed the 12months support period thats y samsung has to rlease it otherwise we can always ask samsung to xchange our phonz with GALAXY SII

I didn't know abt the 12 or 18 month support thing... Where is this mentioned??
Can somebody guide with a Internet link or whatever so that I can check..
If that's viable then we don't have to start a petition or anything., instead complaint to our respective Consumer Support Forums.. (no disrespect, but petitions are crap which'll never work)
Samsung threw us(
the industry won't let this happen... new phones will get ics officialy, older phones just will get it modded... always works in that way.
Samsung is a manufacturer which is having the most market shares currently. But, their customer aftermarket support is the worst.
As all of us know, the Galaxy line of devices are so successful today for having a sales of up to millions. The reason for this is from the start of the Galaxy S.It is their flagship phone in 2010, with a sales of about 20 million globally. Now, Samsung have made a decision not to upgrade the Galaxy S to the newset Android 4.0. Source: http://www.samsungtomorrow.com/2043
Translated English page by Sammobile : http://www.sammobile.com/2011/12/22/official-no-android-4-0-for-galaxy-s-and-galaxy-tab/
Is it a hardware issue? No, it is because they just don't want to upgrade it and wants people to buy their new phones so they can make more money. And even Sony Ericsson done soooo much better than them. They decided to upgrade their whole 2011 Xperia line of devices, even including the 150$ Xperia Mini.
Yes i know that the Galaxy S is an old device, which already exceeded the 18 months of software update. But well, what happens to its other brother? The Galaxy S Super Clear LCD i9003 which launched about the same time as the Galaxy S2, and the Galaxy S Plus which have not even exceeded 6 months, and the recently Galaxy W,what would happen to them? And also, the Galaxy S have so much similarities to the Nexus S, which had its Ice Cream Sandwich update about 1 week ago.
It is a BIG SHAME that Samsung would make this decision, as these devices are still in the 18 months software update timeline. Is the Google's Android Update Alliance dead? Most of us would probably say yes. If Samsung are not gonna rethink this and release the new update for the Galaxy S phones, I would be sure that this is my first and last Samsung phone ever.Samsung is just caring its sales of new devices and its money. My next phone would be only from Google, the Nexus line.
I'm guessing u have a galaxy s? All companies are like that all they care about is money. The market is just a joke now - the devices are all junk really. Everybody can get one now because they're free on contract, and that has totally killed the value of a "smartphone", even if we can get them cheaper now. For this reason, there's no need to cry over spilled milk. I had an HTC Diamond from 2009 up until this year, when it wasn't worth it to repair because the market screwed itself so badly. I (sadly) carry around a Samsung Epic (the superior of all the Galaxy S series), but it'll never be able to replace the magic of Windows Mobile that our quickly moving market/retarded Microsoft has frowned upon.

Motorola is the worse when it comes to upgrade

Sent from my E10i using XDA App
people who care about receiving the latest update would be on forums like this - by extension you will have dabbled with custom roms.
samsung gave their reason why they couldn't put ICS on the older devices - it involves touchwiz, which is their core skin - samsung aren't going to ditch it for their non nexus devices anytime soon (otherwise every android handset would really be "the same as the next").
load a custom rom with no skins onto your phone and stop complaining, or buy a new device. nobody guaranteed you any updates to the latest firmware - and hell, i wouldn't be surprised if the galaxy s 2 won't receive an update to android letter "J" because the screen resolution is too small or something.
Stop whining and get a new device. I was once a Galaxy S user, and have been through the Eclair, Froyo and Gingerbread era. I am more than satisfied to have this phone supported until Gingerbread. Besides, I can flash the ported ICS rom if I want to.

Spot on! Most of the average consumer don't give a damn about what android version they are using, the manufacturer skin and other stuff about that. As long as the phone is works just nice, then they don't care about the versions they are using. I even saw phones (Xperia X8) still stuck at 2.1 and yet the phone works just fine. Did the phone render unusable for not having 4.0? No right? If those guys (especially techies) still whine about manufacturers not giving updates or some sort why don't they flash a custom rom? Problem Solved.
Bro!
This is ****ing XD-****ing-A!
root your phone and flash the ****!
You're pissed off at a company for not putting out OTAs of upgrades?
We're talking about Android here, the OS that I love, that i die for. What are we talking about, Android? We're talking about Android! What are we talking about, Android?
This is XDA homez!
root your phone and flash ICS!
How in the name of Zeus did you go 4 days with a stock ROM on ANY Samsung device? How the **** did you not void your warranty the second you unboxed your phone??
In ALL of the time you spent putting together this very eloquent and moving post, you could have rooted your phone and flashed a custom ROM.
Just wait for CM8 on EVERY device, don't worry about it, you're getting bent out of shape.
Can old S even handle 4.0 hardware wise? How much ram does 4.0 need to run comfortably?
Also, OP, you've clearly NEVER really been a phone enthusiast, have you? Go look up OMNIA HD, for example. People still used and more or less loved it despite how little support it got even from the community.

Just wait for CM9 on EVERY device, don't worry about it, you're getting bent out of shape.

It is just amusing to see that non-android techies just whine about (Insert phone manufacturer here) not giving updates to (Insert phone of the manufacturer). And OP even rant in a forum called XDA.... Head-------->Wall
What? Did the phone rendered unusable for not having 4.0? Well, you can get a freaking Nexus... and Problem Solved.
BTW Sammy is one of the most dev-friendly manufacturers out there. They tried to make everything open source, having an open bootloader and even gave SGS2s to CM7 developers. They hired Steve Kondik (The guy who worked on the popular CyanogenMod Rom) too. Unlike HTC which locks down bootloaders on their devices and lied about it about the bootloader unlock thingy.

Unless OP wants to get a Nexus One which won't be updated to ICS officially....

lol thx for the fix, was laughing my ass off at Jim Rome and slipped the 8 instead of 9
Just get nexus end of story.
Hi,
I was attracted by the features of O3D, I bought it and trust the date provided by LG for upgrade.
Unfortunately, with the dates announced by LG for ICS (September 2012 at best) is the straw that broke the camel!
I even tried my own builds upon the rom without success, as LG provided virtually no sources ..
I decided to exchange my O3D against a galaxy SII, its cost me nothing ... and I was surprised to see that Samsung has already publish ICS beta rom perfectly usable as daily use. I use now CM9 and is perfect, in short I am no longer frustrated.
I encourage every member of this forum to do the same thing, for LG understands that we must not take these customers for idiots!
Wish you best for 2012, goodbye all++
PS: ICS is very very beautifull!!

Nice good for you. I'm getting frustrated with O3D as well. After the initial awe of 3D is over it's just plain slow even with some custom roms. AFter GB update it sometimes has missed out calls and it doesnt ring, camera still takes ages to come up. Less and less updates from LG and list goes on. But i wouldn't change it now since Galaxy SIII is supposed to be launching this quarter or other phones with quad core. So might as well go for something better.
U r right but i'm not waiting the ICS rom so i'm gonna stay with LGO3D
Oh guys, I got rid of my O3D as well, but not for GSII, for the mighty Galaxy Nexus..
As a loyal Nexus One user once, I have really missed the Nexus experience, and I must say, LG really really sucks big time.
You have to experience the zero lag experience of this phone, especially the zero lag camera shutter is amazing. You click, and bamm, you have your photo taken, and back to shutter mode in absolutely no time.
And ICS rocks of course.
What a loss with O3D..
I would not exchange it for a SII, it's not a worthy trade.
But my patience with this handset has reached its limit. It has been a torturing experience using this phone so far, and it has all been due to the constant MAJOR bugs LG adds to its ROMs.
It's unbelievable we get the ghost calls and sms on a V21 ROM, and the loads of problems previous ROMs had before make us expect nothing positive from LG.
I'm hugely disappointed by LG and though I'm sticking with this phone for a while more until I decide what to buy next, one thing is for sure, LG terminals are a no-go.
Cool, you pays yer money, you makes your choice.
I on other hand have just gotten rid of a Samsung product - the galaxy tab - due to woeful support and buggy software. You think lg are the only ones to delay and pre-release software?
The s2 is a great phone but the optimus 3D is fine for my needs, and ics isn't stable enough yet so I can wait. I bought the device knowing it was on froyo so I can't say I'm too aggrieved!
Good luck with your S2!

Isnt the SGSII much more expensive than the O3D (At least in Australia. Prepaid O3Ds go for ~$400 while prepaid SGS2s go for at least 550.)

I don't actually like the look of ICS - It looks too simple. I also don't see why people want ICS so badly, Quite alot of apps don't support it, and there isn't much new features that cant be done better by Non-ICS apps.
Most custom launchers already have the functions of the ICS launcher, most with extra features as well.
Cyanogenmod pretty much has Swipe to dismiss notifications.
Swype is much better than the ICS keyboard imo.
Face unlock and the better voice input engine are pretty much the only things custom apps cant add to GB/Froyo (Neither of which has much use. Face unlock can also be unlocked by a photo.)

Thats why I have turned back to Nexus Nation. No need to worry about the crap that manufacturers put in their firmwares. Pure Google, Pure satisfaction
To each his own, I guess.
ICS would be nice but I'm in no rush...heck I don't even see any difference in Gingerbread from Froyo (except better camera quality which is not even because of Gingerbread)
Phone works great and I love the 3D so I'm staying put

yeah...we all know that galaxy sii come with better support and software in both community and from factor...but still i have the 3D and at least cm7 is coming and the current roms are good enough...and im willing to wait another 9 months or so to get my ICS
so i'll stick with the optimus 3D for now...i would choose it over galaxy SII any day
but its a matter of personal taste and preferences
The price of O3D has been dropping in the online stores lately (around 300-400 euros atm), and I've been thinking of buying one to replace my Nokia N900. But reading these posts makes me think it's not that smart, even the price isn't that bad.
I really like the N900, but I think I need a new toy. And 1080p video recording. And no, I don't want to buy SGS2, as even my boss has one.
No thanx. Have had a SGSII before O3D and I like O3D better.

O3D is the best of the best
I had used many mobiles including Sgs2 , and i can say with full open mouth that optimus 3d is the best among of all

Why change it with a p[hone as sluggish as hell, full of bad quality hardware and crappy 3d? just because of the custom roms? Bottom line is that (almost) no custom rom is as stable as stock ones any brand you go see. Sure i like custom roms too just for the freedom of choosing but srsly evo3d? I've seen it in action with a hell lot of custom roms (my brother has one) and it is not half as good as o3d. My bro is so jealous of my o3d that he keeps asking me to swap phones
Was going for SGII, but after trying Cyanogen Mod I happy with this phone again, Zero Lag.
Just for fun I called LG, I knida call them every week for fun to tease them.
thinking about it now I should have taped the phone calls and put them out on you tube. very funny stuff.
Last call to LG:
me: when will Gingerbread for Australia will be released?
Op: it is has been released already
Me: really?
Op: yes
Op: you do this, then you do that. (installing software on the computer for the update)
me: can you please ask your tech guy please?
op: okay give me 2 minutes
after 10 minutes on hold
op: oh I am sorry but I made a mistake, the gingerbread will not be released for another 3 weeks.
me: another 3 weeks? why???????
op: they are doing final testing to make sure it is 100%
me: oh, so it the same as froyo where they tested and it is still buggy????
op: foryo???? what is Froyo???
me: you are kidding, right???
op: LG uses Android and the delay is from Google and not us, and the problems with the phone is because Android is Buggy
me: Thank you for the information, have a nice day!!!!
