Just wanted to know if anyone else had this happen:
My Skyrocket is on the new leaked ICS and I love it.
I have the ATT 200MB plan, which I have never gone over before. I was away from my home WiFi last night and this morning. When I woke up I saw that the 4G LTE icon was showing a lot of traffic. I looked at the data usage stats and saw that Yahoo Mail had used just over 280MB over night, and I had texts from AT&T saying I had gone over my data limit and accrued an extra $15 charge for another 200MB. It looks like there was a data error in the Yahoo mail app that had it trying to reconnect to the Yahoo servers all night. I removed the app and switched to K9 Mail for my yahoo account.
I suppose I just have to take the charge since I am on a leaked ROM and Yahoo's terms of service limit their liability.
I am curious if anyone else using the Yahoo Mail app has had this problem.
Thanks!
I think ICS let's you assign data limits to apps and to the phone itself, maybe.
Might want to look into that since you have the minimum data plan.
yahoo mail app
Why use the app when you can just set up the email via the email app on the phone? It is less intrusive. Just a thought.
thanks!
Thanks for the responses:
Yes, Eddie, I'm experimenting with those data limit settings now - just too late!
ricanguy, the built-in mail app would not let me connect to more than one yahoo account, so I use K-9 because it will let me use both of my yahoo accounts and it has a lot more features and custom settings than the stock mail app.

You can call and have the overage removed.

If you can't have the charge removed you should at least be able to get a gb for 10 dollars.

Att changed their plans again, there is no plan available for $10. It used to be $15 for 200mb and now they don't offer that any more either.

I normally use about 2-3 GN a month, lol my plan really is unlimited without the clause as i have had it for nearly two years. i never worry about how much i have used
Download an app that monitors what's eating all of your bandwidth. Odds are that it's some rogue app that you installed that just constantly trying to sync data. Are you watching a ton of youtube videos in HD or netflix movies? Both for long periods of time will zap your data.
Only one I've heard of is 3g watchdog. What ones tell you exactly what uses data? That would be awesome!

I think that's it. It should also show you real quick what's hogging your data. FB and twitter feeds, as well as news widgets, weather widgets, and other widgets that need a live feed will all zap your data pretty fast. If you're using a ton of widgets you may want to change their sync settings to see if that makes a difference.
Only see total amount of data....leme know how to see what apps are using data if possible. Thanks

I think you have to get the paid version of 3g watchdog to break down usage by program/service.

What is the difference between ANDRD UNL Web vs this Unlimited data - 5 GB of high-speed data included??? Does that mean I only get 5GB of internet usage max per month as opposed to not having a cap before? Why would they have to change this if this phone is also an android?

Agreed! I use about 2.5 Gb a week but that's with lots of Netflix/Youtube HQ streaming and downloading games via 4g.
-edit-
And that is with wifi NEVER on.
I have the same issue, Watchdog tells me its HTC using up the data as in Friends, calendar email etc

If you couldn't get Watchdog for free

'Track your 3G' seems to do the same thing, but is free.
4G to 3G isnt that much of a big drop.
I used 40GB from my 2GB usage. Never noticed a difference when it dropped to 3G
I usually connect to WiFi whenever it is available. Haven't had an issue since.
Get bandwidth monitor from the market, it splits wifi/3g use and also lists individual apps usage.
I have a very limited data plan (500mb) and if I use regular facebook stock app, it uses about 70% of my total data because of the photos (which I don't even want to see)
Is there something like Text-Only-Facebook?
U are complaining ? I have to get along with ridiculous 200mb a month xD
But you're right with Facebook. The app users a lot of data and is unbearable slow. I use the mobile website which is way better in speed an data usage
If it wasn't for Facebook, even 200mb would be way too much for me

Go to settings in the app and change the update frequency to never.
It wont use as much data. It will still refresh everytime you open the app.
I would also recommend using the touch site at touch dot facebook.
To save more bandwidth, I would suggest using Opera as your browser as it compresses incoming data for you! I get at least a 50% data compression with it pretty consistently.
Tried Friendcaster, no good. The only difference is that the traffic will be listed under "FriendCaster" instead of Facebook.
I don't like the mobile version via browser. Any solution?

Install Onavo count and Onavo Extend. It will connect you through a VPN (kinda like Opera does) and compress your data
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.onavo.android.onavoics
It even tells you how much traffic you save. Onavo count has some neat widgets that let you see how much traffic you used.
Is my personal data safe with this?

It's because the FBI is backlogged with work because of all the data flowing through the internet they have to review.
I think Gmail freaks out if you try to send more than 10mb

JottaCloud recently released their app for their Google Play Store and it is basically like a cloud storage back up for Android. You can set it up so it automatically backs up your photos, MMS, SMS, and songs to the cloud. It is like DropBox but even better.... and more storage.
You have to keep in mind though...
They are offering you only 5 GB initially...but if you sign up and download the android app ..you get an addition 10 GB...
Do the MATH..
5 GB + 10 GB = 15 GB...WOW!!!!
Learn more about the app here:

And by "so YOU can get the extra 5GB", y'all mean "so I can get 5GB more", right? Haha!
Not sure what the point of this is. I signed up kind of on impulse (and got the 10GB extra) but I don't know what I'd really use it for. I may just uninstall.
Contacts... Google backs that up anyway. I suppose if you're running CyanogenMod sans Gapps, this would be good. Otherwise... Why?
SMS/MMS... I don't know about y'all but once the message is received and responded to (or not) I'm done with it. Not sure why you'd want to keep them around.
Pictures... Dropbox automatically uploads my pictures, so I already have a solution for that. This offers more space, though, so there's that.
Music and video... For one, I have videos I don't wanna sync. Two, it would take longer to download them from the Internet than it would take for me to just copy them back from my computer. So why would I want to waste time uploading all that multimedia? Even if I do it while I sleep, if I need it back, downloading would take more time than transferring it via USB/WiFi.
It's a nice app. Would be nicer with an inverted/black theme, but that's a minor gripe. And it will probably show up in a later version. A Google Play commenter mentioned 4G/LTE sync. LTE would be faster than my home WiFi/DSL, but I haven't got it. For those of you who do (and have unlimited data) this feature is definitely a noticeable omission.
I really use cloud storage quite often. Jottacloud has very good integration with all OS and offers great pricing. Free users get a lot of storage no charge. Can't see a downside.

This isn't like dropbox. It automatically gets your SMS/pictures etc from your phone and uploads them. No files or anything for you to choose and upload.
Works perfectly. Already clicked on someone's referral, so got extra 5 GB. Only downside is that there is no option to select manually what you want in the cloud.

Are you sure? If the other devices use a different gmail address you have to log in with that email. Atleast that is what I had to do.
Looking at the guide page confirms it uses whatever gmail address is on the phone. I used this for a while until I bought cerberus, dont get me wrong it is nice but IMO not the same or better. I suggest it to anybody that wants a free tracking app.
