It is so irritating. My data enabled feature turns on automatically. Even though its off.
Any solution?
As far as i know, this is an ongoing problem. It is not the rom that is the problem, but some apps installed on the phone. Some apps on instillation, you agree for the program to access data services, so even if you switch it off, the app can enable it again.
Very irritating indeed, but i did find a short term solution. As data services are really expensive, I personally only use Wifi before i get a big bill. Due to those conditions, i never require data services, so done the following:
1) --> Settings
2) --> Wireless and network settings
3) --> Mobile Networks
4) --> Access Point Names
**By default, this should be your service provider
5) Press the complete left button at the bottom(next to home button).
6) Select add new APN
7) Just change Name and APN to anything random(I used Test & Test).
If data services does get enabled, it will not be able to connect to the service provider and won't cause any problems. You can also swop between the test and the default settings if you do require Data.
Hope this helps in your case.

I have Windows Live Mobile installed so after a soft reset, the program automatically attempts to make a data connection. However, the data connection tab in the comm manager is set to off by default, so a connection can't be established.
Is there any way on the AT&T Fuze to set the data connection on by default?
Thanks....and yes I searched "data connection default" but didn't see anything related to this problem.
Advanced_Configuration_Tool_v3.3 or Diamond Tweak 0.5.3 have an option to have data always ON. However, this will kill your battery in no time
thanks for your help. i have those programs, but i'll look them over again.
EDIT: i looked at both and don't see an option to always have a data connection enabled. under data, you can obviously enable various connections and i already have those set. but i don't see the option to always have the connection on.

Funny how I'm trying to do the opposite. For some reason my data turns on by itself. I turn it off and a few minutes later it turns itself on again. It's really a battery drainer.
If anybody knows how to change it so it will default to off, please post. Thanx.

Certain apps/functions will need data access depending on their polling settings. Email and weather, for example. I disabled the auto updates for those and am hoping to see the data connection stay OFF when I set it.
Hope this does the trick.
I had to configure a bogus network so the device wouldn't get anywhere even if it tried... because it would seemingly reactivate at will.
I dont have a data package for my fuze so i want to disable it from connecting when i load an app that uses internet. I wish to have wifi as my default connection.
Is there a simple way to do this?
Search for the nodata app. It will allow you to disable all data connections other than wifi. I am in the same situation as you and it works out fine for me so far.

or you could just go to your connection settings and under advanced select My work network in both drop down boxes...
um you could just go to the connection settings and delete the dial up profile
Or you could just go to Comm Manager and turn off Data Connection.
go to settings, then Communications and turn off your data connection.
yeah but he doesnt have a data connection that wouldnt stop it from dialing up would it?
If there's no wifi - it will automagically turn the data connection back on (when it needs one - weather/email/etc.). Why there's even a switch.... i dunno.
Well i did disable so it didnt even come up so i dont get charged even the smallest amount. However youtube doesnt work with wifi, everything else does.

I have disabled data connection and Youtube works great for me over wifi, so don't worry, it's not a software limitation.
I cant figure it out then, it doesnt seem to work over wifi. Perhaps your just a lucky fuze user.
Edit:WOW JUST POSTED THIS, Tried it and now its working lol
You can always ask your service provider to put a data block on your account, just to be on the safe side

This might sound noobish, but do you have a step by step?? Is it on Settings>Connections>Advanced>Select Netwoks>....?? Thanks in advance.
Search and dowload NOGPRS cab. It should be a zipfile with a cab in it. Run the cab on yout phone. You should now have an icon that says Nodata. This allows you to toggle the connection so it can come on freely when needed by an app, or not come on at all even if an app needs it. Pretty self explanatory. No need to create fake accounts, or delete anything. If you delete stuff, then when you need to use it if ever, you have to re-enter everything. This eliminates that.
Hey all,
New to the site and all.
Anyway i have a Samsung Galaxy S2X and ive been looking at my data usage and it says that a lot of data over a small period of time is being used for " Android OS services" though I'm not using my phone. If anyone has any suggestions let me know I wanna find out this problem so it stops eating up my data plan.
Thank you.
Hi Welcome,
I am new to.. back to the problem.
Those OS services are pretty normal I think, because there are multiple system apps that frequently make contact with internet to refresh certain data.
If you don't like this, because of data limits from your provider. Go to your phone's settings --> wireless and networks --> mobile networks --> "use packet data" and "data roaming". Make sure both are not marked, if you don't like the OS to retrieve data in the background.
If these settings are unchecked you need to take in mind that there is no way to use the internet through 3G, HSDPA, etc. anymore and you can only access internet via WIFI for example.
I hope this fixes your problem
Thank you for the idea, but its more so finding what ones take up the largest amount of data. That's what I'm trying to figure out.
Hi all!
I just recently upgraded from a Samsung Galaxy Player 4.0" to a Moto G. I sold my SGP and accessories for almost what I paid for my Moto G, which I considered a pretty good deal. I currently have no need for a cell phone, however, and merely use the Moto G as I did the SGP. That means connecting with WiFi only and using it mostly as a media and navigational device (with pre-downloaded maps and GPS enabled).
In an attempt to conserve as much of the (already amazing) battery life as possible, I've set location to Battery Saver and disabled "Data enabled" and "Data roaming" under Settings>Wireless & networks>Mobile network settings. I've also set "Battery Saver" under Settings>Battery to "On". Despite this "Cell standby" under Settings>Battery still consumes an average 20% of a full charge of my battery. Part of this could be that as I am in a remote location, with only very weak cell signals available, the device is constantly searching for signal despite the fact that I do not even have a SIM card installed.
Is there any possible manner in which I could switch off the cellular modem in the phone without switching off WiFi? I can set the device to "Airplane Mode" but that also turns off WiFi, which I prefer to leave on during the day and only switch off at night. I am very new to Android 4.x, so do not yet know all the ins and outs of the Settings menu, and as such may be missing something. Or there might just not be the option. Either way, is what I am wanting to do possible?
You can turn WiFi back on (long press it in the quick settings tile) after enabling Airplane Mode. There may be an app or widget to do this more seamlessly, though.
Turn OFF cellular radio.
I can't wait for my Moto-G to arrive, so I am winging it here..
You can try this: *#*#4636#*#*, and you will enter the TEST mode.
Select Phone information, and scroll down to where you see the SMSC dialog box, directly above this, you will see another greyed out box with the wording: Turn off radio. Select that, and the radio will be disabled, but will restart on a reboot, but there is a way to shut off the radio completely as well, but this should help for now.
You can also use this: ##7764726(program) and then tap DIAL to access the SPC password menu, where you enter SIX ZEROES, and tap 'verify' to enter the programming menu.
The two you will be more interested in, are the first and third selections, User activation and Extended NAM
You can wipe all the data if you wish (but write that information on paper so you will know its location if you decide to actually use that device in the future!
Scroll down to Extended NAM and write that information down, first to last, in proper order as before.
If you wish to completely disable ALL outbound dialing, you should delete the emergency number listings as well.
To upgrade your overload class, change that number to a '1', so some schmuck can't boot your call in favor of theirs.
Your MIN and MDN should be erased, as this prevents the phone from placing any calls, even 911 calls if you erased those numbers.
You can erase everything, from the SID to the MCC (Mobile Country Code), to anything the phone uses to access the network.
Just write everything down in proper order so you have a point of reference when you forget what you did.
Once you finish your task, reboot the device. You may need to once again, shut off the radio using the *#*4636#*# operation, but each device is unique here, you may not need to do this.
You can then try the above mentioned shut down procedure again, and disable the radio completely.
WiFi should still be operational
Thank you both very much for your replies! tma200's method works quite well for me, being easy to get to (definitely seamless compared to doing anything in Gingerbread!) and simple to remember. Thank you for your reply, AECRADIO, I'll keep it in mind if I ever need to do some more advanced radio management on my device!
There are 3 location settings,
1. GPS, Wi-Fi and mobile networks – this lets Google use any of these to find your location even if Wi-Fi or location is turned off. When this is switched on, you’ll often find Google Play Services is one of the biggest issues.
2. Wi-Fi and mobile networks – this disables the GPS chip inside your Galaxy S6 Edge and is probably the least useful of the three options. Relying on just mobile networks and Wi-Fi will allow you to find your location quickly but will then use a lot of data and battery as it relies on your Wi-Fi and mobile networks to keep track of your location.
3. GPS only – this is actually the mode I use as it prevents Google scanning in the background (more on that below). It has its pitfalls in that it can take a while to find your location but the battery savings from not having Google scanning are plentiful.
We know that option 1 and 2 could lead to extreme battery drain because Google uses the location manager and wake up the device. When you attempt to turn on either the first or the second option, you’re greeted with a prompt from Google to “Improve location accuracy”. The option means that anonymous location data can sporadically be sent to Google even when no apps are running, and as a result, this can have a large impact on your battery life, especially when using Google Now or widgets that depend on location. If I choose one of these options I do not see the dialog anymore. Maybe I accidentally clicked "don' t show again".
How can I get the dialog back???
When I enable the locations, it is always set to option 1, even if I had 3 the last time. Anybody else have this problem??

You can choose and set one of the 3 options to find the locations.

Yes thank you, I know that. But every time when I set option 3 and switch location on/off it is always set to option 1 again. Did you even read my post?
Go to apps, google framework services, clear data and cache. I has the same problem, not because of battery drain but because I don't want to do the dirt job of mapping wifi networks for google. I'll like to do it, but just if google ASKS for it
