I've seen this discussed in many other places so forgive me if this post is redundant, but I have yet to find a clear solution.
I'm running official MIUI US 2.3.16 on my G2x, with the Faux kernel. The problem now is that the T-Mobile 'my account' app doesn't load, and the about phone > status dialog displays my phone number as 'unknown'. Voice calls still work fine, but data services are completely off without wifi.
The APN list is empty, and there are no settings there whatsoever. Is this a HW defect or is it just the rom? The stock kernel did not work either.
I'm assuming that in order for my data services to work, I have to have the correct APN in the list. I read about a method here, and while that did bring back the APN settings back, they were gone again after a reboot. Additionally, the T-Mobile app still did not work even when the APNs were there.
And to clarify, I don't recall having any of these issues in the past with the stock rom and stock kernel, data services and the app worked fine.
Thanks!

Hey everyone
For some reason bing maps does not seem to be working with directions when i am using cellular data; i usual get the error cannot connect to wifi or cellular data. I know my cellular data connection is working fine as i am able to use local scout, Ie and even Gmaps and it works fine. Bing Maps is also not accurate alot of the time either with it showing me to be around 2km away from my house.
If i am using wifi i am able to get directions but sometimes it says cannot find location even when i am clear view of the sky. I have had bing maps working previously and i prefer it to gmaps but this is really annoying me that it wont work. I want to format my phone but since you can no longer download metrotube i am reluctant. Any help would be great.
I should refer you to my thread:

I had the same problem. It turns out that APN settings have to be re-entered using the ADD APN or EDIT APN button for your carrier after the latest update for WP7.
Hey thanks for the reply, i am on optus also but i have a unlocked HD7 which i purchased from mobicity.com.au, i use the HTC auto configuration app which is compatible with optus to set up my apn original.
Perhaps Optus has changed some settings as my brothers HD7 has the same problem. What apn settings did you add or did you get optus to send them out to your phone ?. I know with my previous phones when setting an APN for say mobile data there was separate sections to do so ie internet, mms but under WP7 it seems as if there is only one APN section.
Think i fixed it i just changed the celluar settings from Automatic to Yes Optus then added internet as the apn and it seems to be working fine now. I am so glad some one else had the problem it was driving me nuts.
No worries at all mate. It was driving me nuts as well. Its apparently a common (relatively) problem for people on optus since the last update. Glad its all fixed.
So I bought the HTC Once E8 from Etotalk, which came with all the Chinese apps removed and the Google Play store added. I went to the ATT store to get a nano sim, and calls and texts work just fine. My issue is with the data connection. I have done a lot of google fu, and have tried the same settings that people are using for UK M8's but am still having issues. From my understanding the bands are supported, so It should just be a configuration issue.
Would anybody be able to shed some light on this for me? This is my first overseas phone, and I have only had experience with vanilla Android installs to date.
Also, the first thing I did was install the software update from HTC, which probably wasn't the smartest move. I don't see how this would affect APN settings though....
Let me know if any other info is needed, thanks in advance for any help!!

You probably lost the etotalk modrom while updating, but that shouldn't be a big deal. Though it may have overwritten the predefined APN settings?
Did you manualy check your APN settings under settings --> mobile data --> sim1 --> access point names?

Yeah that's what I think happened, is that I lost the modrom. I wouldnt think that would affect the APN though, isn't that supposed to be unique to each country, or something of the sort? I will send Etotalk a message and ask them if there's a chance that could be it anyways.
I have indeed tried keying it in manually, trying every combination from default, to the one I got from the ATT rep, to the ones I have found online from different forums.
Fixed
I tried using the legacy cingular APN. Apparently my grandfathered unlimited data plan was on these old codes, ie. 3G only...
Thanks anyways.
Help request: LTE Data works,"no service" otherwise. IMEI/number, but no texts/calls.
Software: Android 5.0.1 Skydragon M8 v2.0 Sense 7
Many people have posted issues with LTE where their cellular signal was fine for "2G" functions like calls and texts.
I'm having the opposite problem. After leaving airplane mode (landing at an airport today), I have a "No Service" message in the status bar drop down (notification tray), and the Settings>Network information page shows "Not Registered." However, I do have an IMEI (see details below). However, LTE data works perfectly fine.
I've obviously tried changing the settings in Settings>Mobile Data (preferred network to Global / LTE / LTE/legacy 3GPP mode) connection type global/auto/LTE/etc), to no avail. If LTE is connected it works flawlessly, but I cannot make calls or texts, and show not registered on the network. Data roaming is set to deny, but even allowing roaming does not change the situation.
Before this happened, I HAD gone through all the XTended Settings, and even 'looked' at (but did NOT change) some advanced settings pages, including the 'hidden' HTC network info page ( *#*#4636#*#* ). Again, however, I didn't change anything -- unless by accident?!
Does this sound familiar to anyone? Anyone know if I may have inadvertently changed something and can change it back (a setting that would persist in the hardware through NANDROID restores and factory resets...). Or, any other advice to restore the cellular service connection to normal?
I've tried a full NANDROID restore (multiple times) to a working copy, and a factory reset. I have limited access to a PC since I'm traveling, so re-flashing the VZW firmware or stock recovery or lollipop/verizon RUU would be challenging.
I did spend a good 45 minutes (at a library, my only PC access!) searching the forums and web, but to no avail.
Settings information:
OPperator Name: Verizon
Signal Strength -114 (I've had better but still have the same issues)
Mobile Network type: LTE
Service state: In service
IMS service state: Not Registered
Roaming: Not Roaming
Phone Identity page:
IMEI shows up (15-digit number...how can I verify I didn't mess this up?)
Phone Number is correct
IP Address: 100.66..... (looks good)
Any help is GREATLY appreciated!
Same here
I'm having the same issue. When i try to make a call my LTE bars drop to nothing and it says call failed no network available. Any ideas or help would be nice. I was using venom rom as well. I'm currently trying to flash the newest RRU to see if that resets things. I'm wondering if it somehow my sim card. I took it from my droid turbo. I've made sure to turn off advanced calling on my VZW account though.

I had this same issue, running from ruu then rooted. I didn't noticed until I started seeing voice mail notifications but never heard the phone ring. When I tried to dial out I got the immediate call lost message. I couldn't figure what was causing it so I just did a reset. I made sure not to restore any systems data from prior to the Lollipop upgrade. At this point everything is working, the only thing I haven't installed yet is the xposed framework and sense 6 toolbox.

What kind of reset did you do? I know my issue is slightly different, but I did a full RUU-flash yesterday (latest lollipop version) and still no luck. Unfortunately I'm out of the country now and access to a computer is limited, and I don't even have a SIM card yet to check if cellular service would work anyway.
I do intend to do a flash of the stock recovery and radios once I have the time and access, but that may be a while...
Still, I'll keep checking this thread to see if anyone posts any other options

Just go into settings and to Backup & Reset , this will return your phone to a fresh install and remove all non bundled apps.
Before doing the reset try going into Settings then Call then change Preferred Network to Global, or toggle from LTE then back to Global.
hi. first let me state, ive had no training in developing, im teaching myself bits and pieces here and there (through trial and error). now onto my issue:
I have a moto g 2015 osprey, us cellular, 8g version. ive got twrp recovery installed, and have tried two different custom roms, resurrection remix 5.5.7, and CM 12.1 latest nightly, both with stock kernel and with squid 2 kernel. the problem i am having is, with both roms, i have wifi, and can activate my phone on us cellular towers, but i have no data connection. (btw, i got both roms from android development thread, if that matters). hopefully someone is able to help me get my phone working on custom roms with the info i have provided, as i absolutely abhore stock roms. if not, ill gladly provide any info requested. and thanks in advance!
Those roms may have been wiping out your APN settings under Settings>More>Cellular networks>Access Point Names.
I don't have them in front of me but Google US Cellular APN and you should find them. Be sure and save the settings at the top before you back out. There are apps for APN settings but I haven't had much luck with any of them. There is one app though that I believe does give you the APN settings even if it won't change them. Search in Play for APN and you'll find lots of apps.

pardon, i forgot to mention that. CM 12.1 WAS deleting my apn, reloaded stock, took screenshots of my apn settings, loaded CM 12.1 and set them up manually. still no data connection. Resurrection did not delete my apn, but it added 2 others. selected the apn my carrier assigned when i got the phone, still no data connection.
I can't even register it on the towers. Just reports "Cellular network not available"
So, let me explain the problem I had as context for my question.
I have a HTC M8 from Verizon that is totally unlocked (bootloader, SIM, etc) and rooted. I am running a recent version of LineageOS
My wife has a Samsung Galaxy S5 from Verizon that is rooted. She is running the latest available stock firmware from Verizon (with some bloat removed).
On the Verizon network with our Verizon SIM cards neither of us could edit APN settings.
We have been off contract for a while and just switched to Total Wireless.
I had 0 issues with my phone as the proper APN for Total Wireless was obviously loaded properly into my phone when I put in their SIM.
My wife OTOH was not able to get any internet access and upon examining her settings I noticed she lacked the newer TRACFONE.VZWENTP APN that my phone had.
I was not however able to edit her APN settings.
From everything I was finding online it seemed that the phone was clearly unlocked since the TW SIM worked to make/receive phone calls. Also it appeared people were stating that the presence of an APN is a function of the SIM and that if the APN wasn't there or I couldn't add it, then the SIM was the problem.
In the end I was able to install build.prop editor and make the following changes:
Code:
ril.sales_code=LOL
ro.csc.sales_code=LOL
This allowed me to add an APN. I copied the settings from my HTC *exactly* (triple checked) and still no Internet.
Finally I chose the option "Reset to default" and it appeared that it deleted the APN I added and added another TRACFONE.VZWENTP that was just slightly different then what I had on my phone (it set the "Bearer" option to 'LTE' instead of 'unspecified'). Everything then worked.
This experience leaves me to believe the following:
1) The ability to edit the APNs is a function of the ROM, not the SIM, since I was able to edit with build.prop and then make the change.
If this is the case however, why would a custom ROM like LineageOS not have this unlocked by default???
2) The APN is actually stored in the SIM card.
This must be the case because when I "Reset to default" there was nowhere that it could have gotten these changed settings from other than the SIM card as it was unable to even reach out to the internet at the time (wifi was off).
This was all just such a hassle and there are hundreds of posts out there about people in similar situation who state they can't access their APN settings.
If my wife's phone wasn't rooted I would not have been able to use build.prop editor to make the APN editable and then I would never have been able to get internet. What could I have done in that situation?
Again - my issue was resolved, but I am trying to understand specifically how these things are controlled and unlocked - especially for someone who doesn't have root access to their phone.
Oh - I just wanted to add that I worked with Total Wireless over chat for close to an hour while I was researching this on my own.
I helped them out from the beginning by telling them that I thought the APN was the issue and the block head kept telling me that I needed to edit my APN settings.
When I continued to tell him they were greyed out and I couldn't do it he just kept repeating as if they have never experienced this before and there *must* be a way for me to edit my APN settings.
I haven't had a build on my HTC or my wife's G5 that I can remember where I have ever been able to edit them manually, so I would expect that grayed out APN settings are pretty standard. Ofc I may have had a total moron over chat (likely), but he seemed to be consulting either their internal KB or another associate - so the fact that it was so difficult for them to figure this out (in fact they never did, I did) and they never would likely have if my phone wasn't rooted is very perplexing to me as to the root problem.
