Ok. I do have questions on how to root my damn phone, they're at the bottom. But first, I bought the Galaxy S2 I9100G (note the G)
from LowYat (Malaysia) 2 weeks ago (March 9, 2012), and while there are those who are laughing at me, I'm sure many don't even know they
have the G variant. My problem might be more familiar with owners in South East Asia but please don't dimiss.
(To be honest, I've been playing some of the high end games like GTAIII and modern combat 3 among many others, and they really do run
beautifully without a hitch, so if the GPU is this good I wonder about the Mali-400's power)
My firmware:
model no.: GT-I9100G
os: Gingerbread 2.3.6
baseband: I9100GDZKL3
kernel: 2.6.35.7 [email protected] #2
build: GINGERBREAD.DZKL3
No rooting method seems to clarify it will work for my specific model.
Superoneclick doesn't work for 2.3.6; many other methods specifically mention not to try them on I9100G, but only on I9100.
However, some tutorials show methods for devices that match mine, except for the build version. For example, XXLB1 or DZKJ2.
Questions:
- I'd like to know if anyone has tried rooting with specs similiar to mine.
- My build version is DZKL3. Will methods on rooting XXLB1 or DZKJ2 work for mine? DZKL3 is an update of DZKJ2, while still considered 2.3.6. I don't know about XXLB1.
- Often when I connect my phone to the pc, Kies doesn't recognize any device, despite ending task, reconnecting, etc. Any solutions? (USB debugging mode is off)
Forgive me if this is a repetition of previous threads, but I couldn't find an answer as to wether my strangely unique build number
poses a threat. I wish I could post links to the manual I found but I'm new & unallowed. Do bear with me.

Hi everyone.
I got my Galaxy S2 yesterday here in Saudi Arabia and the retail stores install a custom ROM on all the new S2s that come here which includes an Arabic language pack (there is no other option but to get 1 of those here). I wanted to root it, but apparently the only thread that I came across is this --->
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1233654
This merely describes the features and how to install this ROM. What about the rooting bit? I've rooted 2 Galaxy S1 phones before, but this seems like a real pain. I've Google'd all that I could, without any sufficient gains. Some feedback or guidance will be highly appreciated.

New person to the forums. Please feel free to move if in the wrong forum.
I have a Samsung Galaxy Player 5.0, US Model.
When I connect this to my wireless router, I saw that the device name is "unknown". Is there anyway to change it to a custom name? I'd like to name it something other than "unknown" so I can more easily identify it.
When looking through Samsung's settings menu on the device, I did not see anything. I also did not see anything in Samsung Kies. (It is possible I couldn't find a setting after a couple looks though.)
I recently rooted my device per SuperOneClick 2.3.3.
Thanks in advance.

More than likely I'm jumping the gun here, but I was curious if anyone has experience rooting the Reverb (on VM)? And perhaps point me in a direction if so? I've been sweeping google but the vast majority of the results are related to the freshness of its release. Be gentle, my last 'smartphone' was an LG Dare with no internet access (lol don't ask). I'm a long time computer geek, but a virgin cell rooter on virgin mobile.
Thanks for your time!

I havent found anything yet...
neither here.....kinda been thinking it could be based off one of the galaxys s plus roots or 9070 roots?
Not sure if anyone here knows yet probably do but just in case here is the video on rooting the Reverb.
How to Root The Galaxy Reverb - Virgin Mobile
I have a newer Samsung Galaxy Reverb SPH-M950 Virgin Mobile that came with JB 4.1.2 pre-installed.
NONE of the Reverb Roots for JB are working.
I tried reverb-cwm-test-8 and cwm-touch-iconvmu-signed(cwm6030) for the Reverb with no success. I tried different versions of TWRP made for other Samsung phones, with different results, but still no success.
Odin3v304 does flash the recovery successfully, but the previous CWM's made for the older ICS based Reverbs do not boot when i finally get into Recovery mode with the OutOfBox 4.1.2 Reverbs.
Something has changed with the JB 4.1.2 pre-installed Reverbs that is not allowing the commonly know JB roots via Odin.
I really just want to put an older ICS build on this phone because of the TouchScreenLock issues it has with any JB build...
Anyone had success with newer Samsung Galaxy Reverb SPH-M950 Virgin Mobile that came with JB 4.1.2 pre-installed?
I notice the Kernel Version is dated April 30 of this year...hint?
NOTE: I have not Activated the phone yet (not sure that makes a difference)

I just bought my new Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 2 days ago and I love it. When it comes the root part I have 3 questions related to it. Specifically is the model GT-P5110
1) Does the newer tablets comes with bootloader locking chips? It happened to me once with the iPod 2nd gen. long time ago. The newer model (or MC model had a bootloader feature that was blocking the jailbreak). Does this happening to android tablet? Just to be sure.
2) If yes on the 1st question do I have to be care with root? My tablet comes with Android 4.0.4. I didn't update it. Came with pre-installed 4.0.4. So which guide do you recommended to follow in order to root this beautiful tablet ?

I'm thinking also for the second one. I'm scared for the 1st one since it's working good for 4.0.3. I don't take any risks. Any confirmation about my choice?
Sorry for being noob. I have rooted many Android devices in the past and I need some help. As you know every root (for each device) is different.
Thank you
I recently bought a Samsung Multi Media dock that I finally got to work reliably. I'm not impressed with the experience so I want to flash my phone over to a custom rom so I can tweak settings (and recover from it if I screw it up). I used to have a custom rom on my last phone but since I had to replace it when Cricket nuked their CDMA network I'm stuck with a stock Samsung Galaxy S4, with touchwiz- I hate touchwiz.
My brother kind of held my hand when my phone was first flashed over to CyanogenMod, a more accurate description was that he sabotaged it giving me little reason not to flash a custom image, so I'm still a bit new at this. I've gone threw the forums with the intent of reading up on weather I can and how I should go about flashing my phone. Problem is that I can't find anything that directly relates to the version of the firmware I have and I don't know if its compatible with any of the methods on the table.
I'm rightfully terrified of bricking my phone. I at least want some encouragement of reading about people with a success rate with an identical device before I go off and potentially brick my phone, if I do brick my phone I want it to be completely my fault because I plan on reading every guide and forum thread twice just to make sure I don't miss a nuance of the process.
Anyway,
i have a Galaxy S4, SGH-I337Z
Build #: KOT49H.i337zTUUBOA1
Android Ver- 4.4.2
security software ver: mdf v1.0 Rel 2
any combination of that information just points me to similar threads with no 100% (or even 50%) identical information. I've got three threads open in tabs rite now that say things about MD3 or MK2 firmware and I have no idea if I have those or not.
Anyway I'm hoping someone can find the info I'm to blind to find myself.
Thanks in advance!
Ryo
