I have a Samsung Galaxy Player 5.0, US Model.
When I connect this to my wireless router, I saw that the device name is "unknown". Is there anyway to change it to a custom name? I'd like to name it something other than "unknown" so I can more easily identify it.
When looking through Samsung's settings menu on the device, I did not see anything. I also did not see anything in Samsung Kies. (It is possible I couldn't find a setting after a couple looks though.)
I recently rooted my device per SuperOneClick 2.3.3.
Thanks in advance.

I have a Samsung 7” tablet that was purchased from T-Mobile. I have contacted both Samsung and T-Mobile to try to get an updated OS for this device, but can not get anything from either one. I get pushed off from one to the other saying it is up to the other to provide a software update. There are other users on T-Mobiles site that have the same issue and anything I could find out I will gladly pass on to help them also. There are some features on the new OS that I and others would like to have installed. Can someone please help! I use this device for my business on a daily basis and any help would be greatly appreciated. The device information is listed below.
Samsung 7” Galaxy Tab
Model: SGH-T849
Firmware: 2.2
Kernel Version: 2.6.32.9 [email protected] #1
Build Number: FROYO.UVJJB
Carrier: T-Mobile
Can someone let me know the following questions:
1. What is the most current OS that can be installed on my tablet?
2. Where can I find the software and directions to install it?
3. Is there any known issues that need to be addressed after the software is installed.
4. Is there a modem driver that needs to be installed in order for the data package to work?
Thank you for your time and look forward to a reply.

I have a similar question, so I'll subscribe to this thread.
I have a Samsung Galaxy Wonder I1850 with the Android Version 2.3.6. The Baseband version I8150DXLM2 with a build number Gingerbread.DXLM3.
It has a number of Bloatware apps that I would like to remove and I understand that you need to root the phone to enable this to be achieved?
I have read a number of posts that appear under the Galaxy Wonder Forum but they do not specify instructions to my particular phone they appear to relate to the Samsung Galaxy S I9000. Is this the same phone as to the one I have,if so which instruction should I use. As I am very new to this type of phone it would be appreciated if you could be specific as to the procedure to use as I do not want to brick my phone. Thanking you in advance Cheers
Why not flashing cm9 alpha 7? Its work great now

Hello,
Could someone be so kind and point me in the right direction to this Chinese Galaxy knock off, My friend purchase it and im trying to get it rooted and install a custom Rom. It has the stock Rom but for the life of me we try att,tmobile,net10 sims with the correct APN and still says no service, So I would like to root it and try a different rom to see if that works,
Any help would be great. And yes I did a search and that model doesn't show up.
The corrent rom on it is:4.0
Baseband: DM_BASE_12A_W12.43|sc6820_modem|11-01-12
Kernel: 2.6.35.7
Software: 6820_4.0_c910_YP_v13
Hardware Ver: 1.1.0
Duo Sim
Thanks in advance.
This has nothing to do with the Galaxy S Duos (GT-S7562), unfortunately. Incompatibilities relate mostly to hardware differences.

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I recently bought used i717 on Ebay. It is supposed to be unlocked but have not been able to confirm as the standard code does not work. Have not been able to root as superoneclick does not work. Finally got it to connect to Kies but Kies states latest ROM is installed.
When I go to Settings >>> About Phone - Model Number is Samsung SGH-i717, Android Version 2.3.6, Baseband Version T989UVKL1, Kernel version 2.6.35.11, Build number Gingerbread.UCLA1
When I boot up the ATT logo stuff is displayed and there was a bunch of ATT bloatware apps installed, most of which I deleted as I do not use ATT
Don't remember where I was but on one web site about upgrading stated that baseband version should be I717UCLA1, I717UCLF6, or I717UCMB4 before updatingand that It will be I717UCMD3 after the update.
I have discovered that the Baseband Version T989UVKL1 is for an SGH-T989, T-Mobile Samsung Galasy S II, which is probably the reason it won't update through Kies.
I want to upgrade to Jelly Bean 4.1.2.
Have considered Cyangenomod but afraid that with the non-ATT baseband I might brick it.
Any help will be greatly appreciated. I am new to this and it has been very confusing so far.
Hello,
I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 SPH D710VMUB Virgin Mobile running 4.0.4 and want to update to 4.1.2. I have searched all over the internet for help but nothing for my specific model. I don't want to update to the latest android version. I really need the help and very much appreciate the assistance. Will I have to root? I am fine with that, but i will need to know every step to get my device to 4.1.2. Thank you very much!
