I don't know what to do about this sudden problem. I've had my transformer since early May with the dock. I've never had any trouble connecting to any computer via the usb cable until this past weekend. Now all of a sudden it won't even show as connected when the tablet is connected to the dock.
So I tried it directly connected to the tablet and it will connect and come up on the computer but most of the time it kicks out after a little bit or when loading the files in a folder it just gets stuck loading and will not move so I can't move files to it.
I know I can transfer files with things like dropbox, but I move files every day and don't feel like fighting with the transformer for a half hour every day to get files where I want them when under normal circumstances I can move them in seconds via usb.
I tried calling support but all I got was a bunch of BS about needing to install all the software from their site which I actually did and it didn't fix anything.
Both computers I normally use are Windows 7 64 bit machines.
Anyone run into a similar issue? Any ideas?

Try enable USB debugging.
Go to Settings --> Applications --> Development --> Check box for USB Debugging.
There's fews options you can (Do a backup first) try:
1) Reset to factory settings.
2) Format your microSD.
3) Re-flash the ROM.
Besides there's many ways to transfer files from Asus pad to PC.
Wireless Transfer.
FTP Transfer.
Wireless or FTP.
OP, sorry to hear about the issue. In the instances where you are able to connect via USB, if you leave it alone (don't' touch it), then can it complete the transfer? Since the Transformer uses the same connector to charge and transfer, I'm just wondering if the connector is physically getting lose or something.
When I had the transformer, I usually use the micro-SD card to transfer files. But that's just me.

Not to criticize your idea or be a jerk...but what does that mean? I don't think 1) wireless transfer and 2)FTP transfer counts as two different methods of transfer. That's like calling USB and "drag-and-drop" two different ways of transferring stuff to devices. Wireless is wireless, whether you're using a FTP protocol or just downloading using the browser.
Similar Issue
I had a similar issue when (but before) I rooted my TF. My Windows 7 64-bit machines wouldn't notice my device unless debugging was enabled and then I couldn't "safely" disconnect the device unless I disabled debugging.
I'm not quite sure what the issue is there but that is how I connect and disconnect.
Thanks for the reply. USB debugging was already turned on so I tried without it. No luck. I'm on hold with support again. If nothing comes from it I guess I will need to reformat. I never rooted so I doubt it's a rom issue.
As I was typing they said to download and install the latest firmware. I've kept this thing up to date, but I guess it's worth a try.

I got it to work one time. Every other time it just gets stuck loading the content of the folder. If I try to add anything it just sits there as it seems to be waiting for it finish loading. It's just so weird as it has worked perfectly for two months now and then all of the sudden it stopped working. I would maybe understand if there was an update or something but nothing's changed on the tablet or the computers.
I have the same issue with my usb and EVERY device. It all started when I updated the usb drivers with the nvflash certificate. Now when I want to use a usb device or my on board card reader I have to uninstall the general usb driver in the windows device manager, and for new devices. Only then will it recognize whatever I may have conected.

oh the weird usb issues I've seen. Right now my system says that it doesn't have drivers for my vibrant and yet I can connect it and access it perfectly
Try format your microSD yet? Use SD Formatter 3.0.

With wireless (using Wifi File Explorer), you just enter the asus epad (ip address) on the browser to download/upload/etc... files from your asus pad.
With FTP, you will need install ftp client on your windows to access files on your device.

Windows XP and newer versions already have an FTP client - Windows Explorer.
I use the free "Software Data Cable" app. It creates the FTP server on your Transformer, and gives you the address to type into Windows Explorer.
It works great! You can transfer files using your PC, which is a lot easier than doing it on the Transformer.
I haven't used the USB connection since!
Thanks for the replies. I think this thing needs to be rma'd. I just did a factory reset and it's still having issues. I managed to get it connected only through a direct connection and it won't even let me create a folder. It's getting a little late to do it now so I'll call asus tomorrow morning and get it started.
Okay, so I just bought a Samsung Galaxy 7.0 Plus Wifi. I have a 16gb microSD card in it (which I can write to thanks to another thread in this forum).
I looked up info on MTP and found that it works seamlessly with Windows, but needs an Android app for Mac. Okay. not optimal, but I can deal. I downloaded and installed "Android File Transfer" (v1.0.16..6656).
I plug my GT+ into my Mac. The tablet says it is initializing MTP, then switches to "USB Connected - MTP-Connected".
Sounds good, right?
When I launch the "Android File Transfer" on my Mac, I immediately get a pop up window saying "No Android device found. Please connect your Android Device with a USB cable to get started."
I've tried rebooting. I've tried different cables and different USB ports (although all of the above work with other devices).
What on earth am I doing wrong???

Seriously - at least for Snow Leopard, I'm not using any special apps and it works. I can't remember at the moment, but I might have had to tap the USB icon thing in the notification bar to activate something on the tablet (or maybe that was on my gingerbread phone... I can't remember now, and my mbp isn't available at the moment.)
Get rid of the excess stuff, plug it in... if you don't get the drives available on the mac, tap the USB symbol on the notification bar on the tablet and see if there's an option to turn it on or something...

Well, that certainly is strange. I'm running Lion (v10.7.2), so you'd think it would work there as well.
I tried tapping the USB symbol where it says "USB Connected / MTP-connected". No dice. It just goes away like it isn't really tappable.
You did make me think to look System Information -> Hardware -> USB to see if the system at least recognized the tablet (Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus). It does, as you can see by the attached screen cap (the "Android Phone" listed is my HTC EVO 3D, and yes, I've tried this without it being attached.).
Any other ideas?
I have an iMac with Lion and I could never get the Android Transfer App to work. But what does work is an app by Samsung called Kies. Do an app search on the Android Marketplace to find it. You'll find more reviews there, than at the Samsung website.
You will also need Mac version of the app as well. Should be at the Samsung site; probably under support, since you're now looking for a Mac app.
While it states that it will connect via Wi Fi, and I'm sure it will, I have my iMac hardwired, so I had to access my Tab7+ using USB. You'll have to try it to see if has the features you are looking for.

I had this same problem with the MTP-connection message on my Gingerbread Android device (Samsung Galaxy IIS Epic Touch 4G, ...yes, it is a long name! I know.) with no acknowledgement of connection on my Mac Mini running OSX Lion 10.7.4. The curious part was that my Macbook Pro also running Lion was seeing it with no problems at all using the same USB cable.
So finally it hit me, I tried connecting the USB cable directly to the USB ports on the back of the Mac Mini and problem solved! I got on my Mac Desktop two new drives, one for the internal memory and the other one for the microSD card! (Both with read/write permission)
I must add that I was trying it originally through a Belkin powered USB 2.0 hub (7 ports), but apparently something is not working right for the Mac trying to connect to the Android device through the USB hub.
I hope this helps some of you out there!

1. Problem
In short, I plugged in my Nexus 5 to my laptop in MTP mode, it does not show up in "My Computer".
I just wanted to transfer files to my phone via USB, not even using ADB yet.
I have yet to solve the problem after googling around for a bit.
Relevant XDA threads that I remember reading are this, this, this, this and this.
I have tried numerous combinations of (un)plugging my phone / (un)installing drivers / rebooting my laptop and phone / switching usb ports / turning USB debugging on and off / connect in PTP mode / ...
As a workaround, I am now transferring files using the AirDroid app, which is really convenient with acceptable speed.
Still, it would be nice to know why the problem occurred and see if others have similar problem.
Below I will describe the devices I have on hand and more details on the failures I have encountered will follow.
2. My Devices
A. an old Galaxy Note
B. the new Nexus 5 with the stock micro USB cord
C. new laptop
- 64-bit Windows 8 Pro (not upgraded to 8.1 yet)
- only USB 3.0 ports
D. old laptop
- 32-bit Windows XP Home
- only USB 2.0 ports
3. Details
Scenario A. Nexus 5 not showing up in "My Computer"
Naturally, the first thing I tried is to simply plug my Nexus 5 in to my new laptop. I was used to Android devices working just like that!
However, my Nexus 5 does not show up in "My Computer" after a loooong wait.
On a closer look, my Nexus 5 (only) appears in the "Device Manager" under "Portable Devices" as "MTP USB Device".
It shows my device to be "working properly". However, I cannot uninstall/disable it when my phone is plugged in (normal?)
Frustrated, I decided to unplug my phone. I have the option to "Unplug Nexus 5" under "Safely Remove Hardware", but the operation always times out, so I simply unplugged it.
Then I tried with my Note using the same cable. It works flawlessly either in MTP mode or Mass Storage mode.
Scenario B. Nexus 5 shows up, but is really sloooooooooooooow
At some point, I turned on USB debugging.
With USB debugging on, my phone appears under "Portable Devices" as "Nexus 5" (and in some other places according to what drivers I have installed).
I was quite pleased for a few seconds as my Nexus 5 now shows up in "My Computer"!
However, it took a few minutes to list the folders I have under my phone's internal storage.
Attempting to copy a 12MB file to it gives an estimated time of over 2 hours.
Scenario C. Success?
After tinkering with it for some time to no avail, I was beginning to worry if I have gotten a defective hardware.
Then I remembered I had an old laptop stashed somewhere, so I tried connecting my Nexus 5 to that.
And... voila! It works without a hitch (MTP mode, USB debugging off).
A maybe useful note is that I have used both the old and new laptops to transfer files to my Note before.
4. Possible causes
While many seems to have solved the issue by simply unplugging and letting Windows reinstall the drivers, I have no such luck.
I sincerely hope that it is not due to any hardware defects since
a) my Note can talk to my new laptop through the same micro USB with no problems, and
b) my Nexus 5 can talk to my old laptop.
I feel that this is a driver-related issue but I am not sure.
Is it possible that there are compatibility issues with using USB 3.0 port (which should be backward compatible...) or a 64-bit Win 8 Pro?
Any help is appreciated!
It is so strange..
I just bought a USB 2.0 hub and connected my phone to my new laptop through it.
Guess what... it works perfectly!
Apparently my problem was that my new laptop only had USB 3.0 ports for me to test on?
Doesn't make sense... thought 3.0 is backward compatible and my old Note works on it!
Maybe I'm missing something but I'm happy it is solved for me now

I basically seem to have the same problem as you do.
My laptop also only has USB 3.0 ports and Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit installed.
The Nexus 5 doesn't get installed, in MTP mode it is just shown with the yellow exclamation mark in Device Manager. Downloading different USB drivers including Google's and trying to manually install it doesn't work at all. I specifically checked that all older similar drivers are gone, so I doubt that older Android devices could be interfering.
On the other hand, as you noted, using an older computer with USB 2.0 works perfectly, I had the same result.
To be honest, I'm not much of a developer or Android tinkerer, so I'm not really making any progreess... In the end, I think I will follow your example and test it with a USB 2.0 adapter.
Did you manage to get it to work without this workaround?

I had a lot of issues with my S3 and my work computer (windows XP SP3) and it was because I had half installed some USB driver that windows tried installing.
I fixed the problem in device manager by manually uninstalling EVERY SINGLE USB DEVICE attached to the computer while I had my phone plugged in.
Word of caution: You'll probably uninstall your mouse/keyboard doing this.
Once everything was uninstalled I reinstalled the Samsung drivers and it worked fine.
The same computer only required me to install the Google drivers for my N5. If I enable USB debugging, I all of a sudden can't install MTP drivers, but USB debugging disabled works fine.
USB & MTP mode
I have the same problem with my Nexus 5. The only workaround to transfer files to my phone from a computer via USB cable is to enable USB debuging, set the phone to PTP mode instead of MTP and then it shows in My Computer as a camera. I can only access the DCIM and Pictures folders but for now I have to settle for this...I copy all the files I need to let's say Pictures and then using a file explorer (on the phone) I cut and paste them to the folders I wish...e.g. movies to Movies, music to Music and so on...
I had same problem. Developer Mode...USB Debugging ON worked.
I have this problem too, but I got it to work using a galaxy s3 cable. for some reasons the cable that came with N5 did not work.
Its usually just missing drivers.. You can get them straight from Google or a toolkit as mentioned! (P.s you need to download a little applet like thing from Google if you want to hook up your Mac to your n5)

The problem I am having now connecting is that my phone got wet recently. I dried it immediately and used dessicant to withrow the water and now it works (sort of). Now when I plug my phone into my pc, the usb debugging icon doesn't even show up.
I tried connecting to both my work pc and home laptop and they both say the same thing, that the usb device has malfunstioned and that windows doesn't recognize it.
Is it time for a new phone?

Sounds like the usb is shorting. How long did you let it dry. Give it more time and try it again.

Yeah maybe thats what happened. It's been drying now for about a week. The screen was the major problem at first but has since dried there mostly.
Hopefully it will come back. Would suck to have to buy a new phone because of that.

MTP connecting problem solved
Going back to the subject of the thread: I am pretty sure that ADB drivers and SDK (I am confident that a lot of nexus users have their devices rooted and that means they must have the above installed) is what is causing some sort of conflict when trying to connect the Nexus 5 as MTP. After I reinstalled the windows (W8) on my computer and connected my Nexus 5 it took @1-2 minutes to auto install the drivers and then worked fine...I have no ideea what happens if I install ADB and SDK again...

If you tell the SDK not to install the drivers it'll be fine
The simplest and shortest way to connect google nexus5 with PC as MTP(Media device)
When I plugged it, there wasn't any yellow exclamation mark within Device Manager. So for me, the drivers were OK. But the device was not listed within my Eclipse DDMS. After a little bit of searching, it was just an option to change in the device settings. By default, the Nexus 5 USB computer connection is in MTP mode (Media Device).
What you have to do is:
Unplug the device from the computer
Go to Settings -> Storage.
In the ActionBar, click the option menu and choose "USB computer connection".
Then select Media device(MTP) or Camera(PTP) based on your requirement...
Plug the device and you should have a popup on the device allowing you to accept the computer's incoming connection..

I faced the same problem with mine...
Couldn't connect my phone with my laptop.
It installs the driver but not displaying the folder in my computer.
I uninstalled the Existing samsung driver in control panel.
Then the issue has been solved,
Or uninstall previous mobile's drivers
Try this!?!
Search for Universal Driver here in XDA. Had the same problem most of you are having. First try and BAM! Works like a champ...

Problem solved for me
I have no more issues what-so-ever after I unninstalled ADB & SKD drivers...Windows(8) installed my phone by itself after a restart and it works as it should in MTP mode and PTP mode.

My P900 is not recognized AT ALL by either of my MacBooks...one runs Mountain Lion, the other runs Mavericks.
The other day, I spent an hour on the phone with Samsung, including Remote Management but they were unable to fix the problem (in fact, thanks to this forum, I knew a few things they didn't). A quick summary of what they tried:
- Downloaded Kies...didn't work. BUT... I remembered reading about issues with the OEM Samsung Cable and Mac, so I tried using my Blackberry cable. That connected the P900 to Kies BUT it still did not show in Finder.
- Remote Management downloaded Android File Transfer. It did not work (He said it works 80-90% of the time).
- His recommendation: Backup P900 using Kies; Restore to factory settings; Try to connect again with OEM cable. If that fails, take P900 and Mac to Authorized Samsung Service Center in my city. Show them the problem and have the tablet repaired.
Any thoughts on this advice? Can anyone successfully connect the P900 to Mac using the OEM cable and have it appear in Finder? What about with other cables?

Kies will connect to my note pro using a 2.0 cable and I can't recall but I think android file transfer will not (I don't have it installed anymore for that reason I think).

Sorry about taking your quotation out of context. It made perfect sense to me as I read it but I understand what you mean.
The Kies connection is useless to me since it only transfers media files. I need to be able to transfer all types of files back and forth.
So the question I am really asking:
Is it possible to connect the Note Pro to a MacBook so that it appears in "Finder"?
Generally, isn't that what is supposed to happen when something is connected by cable? I am a teacher and I have connected dozens of different student devices to my MacBook. I plug in the cable, the device appears in "Finder" and then I copy the files from the student's device to my MacBook.
If the Note Pro cannot connect to Finder, do you have any idea why? My understanding is that it works correctly with Windows. Is that correct? Also that other Samsung devices work with Mac. What about other devices running KitKat? To me, if this is an issue with the Note Pro and the Mac it is simply unacceptable. And worse is the advice I received from Samsung on the phone telling me to do a factory reset and then to take my Note Pro in to have in repaired. I wonder what they would do to try to repair it? Maybe I should find out?

The Kies connection is useless to me since it only transfers media files. I need to be able to transfer all types of files back and forth.

Generally, isn't that what is supposed to happen when something is connected by cable? I am a teacher and I have connected dozens of different student devices to my MacBook. I plug in the cable, the device appears in "Finder" and then I copy the files from the student's device to my MacBook.

Boils down to lack of support in the drivers for the Note Pro. It doesn't seem like a priority to Samsung to fix it either.
You can do what you need to do with Kies.
When you open Kies and then connect the Note Pro via a USB 2.0 cable it will show up on the upper left pane of Kies.
On the right hand pane (main window) a summary of the device will be shown along with the device name and bars that indicate the state of internal and external storage (microsd if inserted).
On the right of those status bars for storage is a folder icon. Click that.
A popup window will appear and you may interact with the storage location of the device as you wish (just no root access). Simply drag and drop files or folders from a finder window into that MTPBrowser window.

I have not been able to connect the phone since the windows 10 upgrade.It never finds the devise?
Has anyone else seen this and if so is there a fix ?

I actually did have some issues initially. I believe i went in and disabled, then reenabled MTP mode on the N5 while it was plugged into the computer, at which point it was able to see the phone and files correctly. This was while the phone was running the latest official stock. As a side note, I've since put the 3rd developer preview of 6.0 on, and had no troubles at all with Windows seeing the files. I have heard that 10 is still having issues with certain portable memory systems (for example, Nikon camera's aren't functioning correctly; they show up, but have no files listed at all when plugged in via a usb cable). I've only heard of microsoft saying that they are "aware of the problem" thus far.
