Is it just the application that seems to be having an issue, or the browser as well?

Both. Also the volume in videos on websites like BBC.co.UK don't seem to work either.
I had the exact same issue on my sensation xe yesterday. Audio was working, however on video related media like programs, games youtube bbc etc it didnt.
I was worried that it was caused by the latest official update of ics 4.0.3 and sense 3.6. Anyway to fix this issue you HAVE to reboot. I tried to switch and off and on, but that didnt help. So reboot your device.

Turned off fast boot, rebooted it and it works now. Said it was 'optimising applications' on the start up screen
Nice that u fixed the sound issue.
I just held down the power button and rebooted/restarted the phone.
Didnt have to uncheck the Fast Boot option. Yeah mine showed 'optimizing applications' after reboot as well. I think it's an ICS thing. I dont recall Gingerbread doing so.
However I have no idea what caused the issue in the first place.

Hi to all,
I'm using revolver 4.2.0 ROM on ASUS TF101. I've noted that the audio does't work after deep sleep. It happens often If I use skype.
I have to restart my device every time.
Has anyone observed this kind of bug?
Thanks

Solved updating to JB AOSP. Seems to happen only with Skype working in background.
Thanks
I've installed skype once on my TF101... I'll look tonight if it's still installed ! It was a long time ago, and i've done a few reset since then !
We just have to wait for Asus to release JB so lol
edit : skype uninstalled ! I'll see if I still have sound problem...
No issue this weekend... so far so good !
Thanks gianoct for the tip !
I've spoke too fast.
For one week now, I reboot twice a day to have sound back !! :crying:
This is happening to me too (AOKP JP and CM10), with Skype not having ever been installed. If I reboot, the sound will work flawlessly, but when I turn the screen off I'll hear the lock "click", and when I turn the screen back on I'll get a garbled half-click unlock, and no sound thereafter until a reboot. Going to grab a logcat tonight and see if I can at least figure out a kernel or framework error to work from.
Ok, let us know what you find in your investigations...

I've had this with the stock rom and it's persisting with revolver. Generally seemed to be related to the issue with touchscreen sensitivity being *#@! after deep sleep, though at least touchscreen seems a LOT better with revolver - haven't even had to use the app which fixes that yet.
Found a solution. With the KAT kernel and K.A.T. app you can reinit the DSP and audio comes back! This kernel works with CM10, don't know about revolver
Interestingly, this is a problem specific to my tablet. It's working fine on my phone (HTC One).
Both devices are running recent versions of CM11. This has been a problem through several iterations. Both devices have similar apps and setups. I can't find any clue as to why only my tablet has this problem. It's frustrating because obviously watching videos on my tablet would be better!
I see a black screen and the video appears to be buffering but nothing ever appears. Any ideas?

Here's a weird one. Just got my 8 yesterday and noticed today it won't play any type of video...talking YouTube, external, even videos taken with the camera! Any help is appreciated. I was to get sound on one video but black screen. Almost like it's missing video drivers or something.
EDIT: A hard reboot fixed the issue...like the old blackberry days!
This is actually a known bug apparently. Except some people have to reboot more than just once due to the issue coming back. Hopefully a small update will fix the issue.

Also experiencing this. Over time, videos won't play via any app until I manually reboot the phone. Kinda annoying.

Factory reset is the solution
I also have this issue. Factory reset only works for a few days than it comes back. I hope they patch quickly.

we can expect an ota with the fix soon....
Yep this happens to me too!
YouTube playback goes black but audio still plays sometimes.
Browsing on reddit, any post with a gfycat that plays as an mp4 or related format doesn't load at all.
And as others say, rebooting fixes the bug.
Next time it happens I'll run a logcat or something as I'm rooted and I'll see if there are any errors and post logs. Issue happened before and after root so I'm sure root isn't the issue.
UPDATE: So it happened again and I captured a logcat while trying to play some videos. The last 4 lines are of interest. Logcat added as screenshot

Hello,
Do you guys experience a small audio lag during videos?
It happens in all the apps I use (Facebook, YouTube, Instagram..)
The videos start, then freeze for 1/2 sec at the beginning and then play but with the audio not sync with video .
Thanks

Not for me, all is perfect smooth.
This behaviour to me is something related in any way to your internet connection/mobile data

I don't think so..
It happens on wifi at home, 4G or wifi at work.
If I reboot, it's works fine but then the problem comes back a few hours/days later.

I know it's a bug and also HTC knows.
Wipe cache every time lag come back.
No other way by now brother
I've found the cause.
It's the USB Audio Player Pro app.
App un installed, rebooted the phone and the problem is now gone.
I have the same problem. Update from Nougat to latest oreo didnt fix problem.
Reboot helps but not for a long time.
Remove video apps and install mxplayer. If you don't use boost+ it's a good app by htc!.
I've had the lag off and on too. Last week I cleared the cache partition and so far it has not returned.

Hi,
I've just updated my KB2003 to 11.0.6.8 and I've noticed that video and/or audio playback pauses for a second and then plays back for maybe 3-4 sec and again it pauses. The issue is present in every app.
I've cleared cache after update. Any solution?
same happens to me, I believe Dolby atmos is the issue it keeps crashing and wont let me turn it off even.
problem on both wired and wireless headphone
From KB2005 OOS 11.0.6.7KB05AA

Same problem here
I can confirm kb2003 11.0.6.8 lag lag!!! Video online and offline, notifications, unlocking, with lag every 3 - 4 seconds.
Seen a lot of posts about this on the official oneplus forum.
Some claim that the answer fixed it self after a few hours and someone just posted
" Recorded myself on voice recorder, played it back, phone now behaves normaly !!"
" I restarted.. bug again.. i take a video with the phone... Then kill the photo app... No more bug "
"WORKAROUND: audio/video playback works witout interruption if battery saver is activated. "
Someone said a factory reset fixed it. But I guess most people want to avoid that.
No idea if it works or not. I haven't received the OTA yet. Eventhough I planned to download it with oxygen updater, but now I am waiting a bit until I get more info about this error.
