New Update - T-Mobile myTouch 4G Slide

most likely not

Why do you say that? Is it cause of tmobile?

They've been releasing nothing but patches for our phone. We'll get ICS, but probably not for another six months since T-Mobile needs to bloat it up first.

HTC already announced (twice) the list of the phones they are going to update and MT4GS isn't in it while other T-Mobile phones are
also, t-mobile is messing around with the mytouch line and repositioning it as mid-low tier devices

Which doesn't negate any existing support contracts HTC and T-Mobile have.
Actually, I'm kinda wondering if HTC is going to take over the sidekick line.

The myTouch 4G Slide is a T-Mobile branded phone, not an HTC branded phone. HTC has no control of when they are allowed to release an ICS ROM for the MT4GS. The phone may be produced by HTC, but it is no more HTC than the T-Mobile G2 or Google Nexus One.
We will likely get it, just not in the near future.

Well I don't know whether to be happy or said :S and i hope the X1 wont outperform it.
I can only assume, AT&T will need to have their own "uniquely named" device and not the vanilla Touch Pro the rest of the world will enjoy. This in itself will add 6 months to any official release date of the Raphael in North America. I hope I'm wrong.
I will snoop around on my side and report anything to this thread with any positive news.
Lol, I would say they're that bad , however i can imagine them releasing it sometimes in Q4 (October-ish?) or early Q1 of next year.
I thought CDMA version is coming out first for Verizon. or was it for Sprint... I read it somewhere in Engadget or BGR.
this will be called tilt II for at&t. this is a rumor i heard from a friend from at&t wireless side.
Why does the US seem to get this stuff last? I blame it on the carrier cartel that refuses to adopt the mobile phone industry models the rest of the world has.
If the only experience with HTC i had was my wizard, I'd be all over the Raphael. I paid 588USD for the tilt (off-contract) and get the shaft from them. Now, I'm up for a phone upgrade, and I'd really, really like to get my hands on this device, but I don't know if I trust them anymore.
Still LOOKS kickass, though.

I would be VERY surprised if the Raph couldnt be sorted out like this, remember the Hermes didnt have necessary bands for telstra in AU which was eventually sorted with a hack to allow the necessary frequency to be used.
Details details people, if AT&T were going to use it i imagine the bands situation would be trivial, im sure they are going to carry it.

You and I can hope but I'm 98% sure you're right. Trends point to AT&T releasing this sometime next year, as to not disturb the X1 and without the front facing cam. Right now it seems like Sprint is going to get this first as they're getting the Diamond sometime in September.

AT&T Options?

I am stuck using AT$T as my provider currently. I want another android phone. I have a Moto Droid for work and love it.
Since the backflip is a POS, what other phones can be brought over to AT&T and work with 3G? I saw the progress on the iPhone, but would really rather a physical keyboard.
Thanks
AT&T only has 2 android phones available. The Dell Aero and the Moto Backflip. The Backflip being the one with a hard keyboard. They have HTC listed on their android page, but who knows when/if that will happen. I think I remember reading that they made Bing the default search provider for the Backflip. I don't know AT&T's policy on bringing unlocked phones onto their network, but you could get the international version of the Hero or something similar. I just rooted my Sprint Hero with the Fresh 2.0d ROM and it is like having a new phone. Once all the Sprint bloatware was removed it runs twice as fast. Unfortunately, none of the unlocked android phones support AT&T 3G, so you will be stuck on 2G. For a hard keyboard, your only option is an unlocked Motorola Milestone(newegg is out of stock).
www.google.com/phone
Or get a Rogers Dream or Motorola Milestone from eBay if you want a physical keyboard and 3G on AT&T. Then it's just a matter of unlocking and rooting.
Of course, you need to be careful with Rogers. They have "patched" their Dream in such a way as to require a JTAG to root.

I am pretty sure the Milestone does not support AT&T 3G, only T-Mobile. The unlocked Nexus will support AT&T 3G, except for the minor hardware design problem where if you hold the phone the right way you can block the 3G radio. (See youtube, search "Nexus One 3G Problem")

according to this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snapdragon_(system_on_chip)
its the same processor in both. the international Raider is clocked at the same speed and the AT&T variant (Vivid) is slightly Underclocked from the factory. but they are both capable of the same speeds.
You don't even say why you want to return it.
I've personally contemplated getting the Galaxy Nexus (unlocked), but I'm torn between the two.
The main GN selling points for me are the higher res display, notification light and NFC out of the box. On the other hand, it's got a crappy camera, no LTE (plus I'm hearing lousy signal and data speeds on AT&T).
What I love about the SR is obviously LTE and the camera, but on the other hand I hate the 800x480 res and sound quality of both ear speaker and loud speaker is sub-par. Plus, no notification light is killing me, reminds of my days with an iPhone. Why does Samsung omit this feature is beyond me.
If you can live w/ less internal memory, than the LG Nitro HD LTE might be good.
But the dev suport on the lg will be a gamble

The skyrocket is a really good device, you might as well keep it. Your other option on ATT is the vivid which I have and is a great device. But don't worry, with this CarrierIQ thing going on right now (which seems to be ATT only and not Google, Samsung or HTC) you ptobably should be able to opt out the contract at any time since you didn't sign up for that crap...

Then it looks like the SR is the best choice for the next 6 months or so. Honestly, I haven't even looked at new phones that were coming out for AT&T. The LG phone doesn't look appealing as there is only 4gb on board which is crazy for a smartphone these days.
Thanks for the info!!

This is my concern. The only two gripes I have about my skyrocket are the screen lines and the poor audio...The LG Nitro screen quality may be better resolution, but it is still LCD. I doubt audio is any better than what it was on the thrill. On that note...the thrill has hod absolutely no developmental improvements since I left that device over a month ago.
I have no interest in the Vivid (heavy, washed out screen, bootloader issue) so the Nitro would be my only choice at the moment and I just don't see that happening...4gb internal memory and no development....the SR will prolly be the better choice to tide me over until mid '12
We have another upgrade available next week so we may pick up a nitro to compare side by side.

Where are you seeing this? None of the reviews I've read have mentioned that. One thing that may not be widely understood is that you need to have your account provisioned to get HSPA+ data speeds. The old wap.cingular.com gateway is apparently capped in terms of data speeds. You need the IMEI of a "4G" capable AT&T phone in order to get a 4G data plan and the right code added to your account - AT&T doesn't recognize the IMEI of the GN as 4G capable. My plan is to buy the SGS2 Skyrocket with my upgrade, activate it on the 4G unlimited data plan, then sell it and use the SIM in an unlocked GN once the 32GB HSPA+ GN is available.

I read it in multiple posts here on XDA under the GN section. My line was fine with HSPA+ since I had the Atrix, and they said I wouldn't need a new SIM for the Skyrocket...which I believe since I'm getting 45mbs here in DC.

[Q] Why no love for the 9020a?

So, I've been running 4.03 with the UCKF1 radio since December, but I'm really wanting a stock update from Google. Why haven't they released anything for the 9020a at all? It's just a different radio from the 9020T and now the 9020T has seen 2 ICS revisions, while if I chose to only use the official OTA process, I'd still be on GB. Is Google finally going to release something for the 9020a now?
I don't believe anyone here can answer you with 100% certainty.
I still believe however that if we didn't see a release, there's a reason. But people aren't too good at the waiting game.

At times like this I really do hate the North American carriers. I was pretty misinformed up to this point as to the nature of android updates on the nexus phones. I was always under this blissfully ignorant impression that it was fully under google's control to push updates at their sole discretion. Sort of like the advertising led me to believe.
So now that false belief has become painfully apparent to me, replaced with the knowledge that the carriers still have the ultimate say.
I doubt very much now that this update will be seen any time soon OTA in Canada if Telus has any say in the matter. Hopefully AT&T will authorize it soon so we can at least get a factory image we can flash ourselves.
Yes this wait is hella annoying especilly since i've been forced to use i9020t as base for mine but for those who are adventurous you can download the factory image for the i9020t from https://dl.google.com/dl/android/aosp/soju-imm76d-factory-ca4ae9ee.tgz and slectively flash boot.img and system.img.
You just need to unlock bootloader (backup first it wipes device) download the archive, extract the boot.img and system.img and flash them.
The commands are:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash system system.img

I made an XDA account just to comment on this issue.
When I bought my i9020a Nexus S from AT&T, I was under the impression that the only difference between this and the T-Mobile model was the radio/antenna. I was also under the impression that updates would be carrier-agnostic, since it is a Nexus device after all.
So why the hell does T-Mobile always get the updates instantly, seemingly not having to wait for approval? T-Mobile is a carrier just like AT&T, but it seems like T-Mobile users don't have to wait for carrier approval like we do on AT&T.
What is there to approve? Is approval from AT&T really necessary for changing the radio file?

You'll excuse carriers for not wanting to cripple their networks because some radios might be misbehaving...
Seriously, I don't get it. Why so impatient? Is anyone in a life or death situation regarding the ICS release?
Not too long ago, everyone found GB to be nice and dandy, now everyone wants to flee from it like the plague. The update will come in due time, and I for one largely prefer a polished version rather than one with issues.
So far the ICS release has seen enough bugs, some that even warranted a pull on the plug. I don't feel the rush to upgrade to something that won't work right...
My 2 cents
So all of us using a 9020a on a carrier other that AT&T are at the mercy of AT&T when it comes to updates on our Nexus phones? That wasn't what I signed up for when I chose a Google branded device on my Canadian carrier...

I don't think there would be as much outrage if ICS hadn't been released for any version of the Nexus S yet.
It's not that people are upset that they don't have ICS; they're upset because some versions of the Nexus S have gotten updates while theirs have not.
Google promoted the Nexus line of phones as getting updates "as soon as they are available," because the updates are independent of the carriers, since they're supposed to come directly from Google. People were sold on the promise that there wouldn't be several months of delays between new Android versions and Nexus phone updates because it was a "pure Google" phone.
The news that apparently the carriers need to "approve" Nexus builds before Google pushes them out flies in the face of what Google told people they were getting.
The T-Mobile Nexus S now has 4.0.4, and my AT&T Nexus S doesn't even have 2.3.6 yet. So much for always having the latest available version.
That's why people are upset.

The delay is probably not just AT&T. Canadian carriers are known for taking longer to test updates than even AT&T. Who exactly Google is waiting on right now is not exactly clear.

The T-Mobile USA phone actually has T-Mobile's logo on the front, not HTC's. It also has a different case with a separate piece on the bottom of the phone. It's a different model than the global version. That's what I meant. I should have said there are only two models, the T-Mobile USA model, and the International/EU model.

It's a different model than the global version. That's what I meant. I should have said there are only two models, the T-Mobile USA model, and the International/EU model.

What is that seperate piece on the bottom for? The Canadian versions (Bell/Telus/Virgin/Fido) have it too. I prefer the cleaner look of the international version.
It looks slightly off colour compared to the rest of the phone. Stood out like a sore thumb to me.
The red circle around the camera lens is lame

Are you referring to the black version? because that would be fantastic.
If I get the black international version will it work with t-mobile hspa+?

No. It lacks the 1700/2100 AWS band that T-Mobile USA uses for it's 3G/HSPA+ network. You would only get EDGE data.
