Hi guys, i have an HTC Mozart with custom rom and i love it, but i really want to know why the market doesn't have the games that the other market have, like fifa 12, dead space ecc, i really want to play those game on my wp7
And an other question: why the price are so high (angry bird, fruit ninja ecc.)?
Sorry for my bad english
Hi,
There are a couple of reasons why there are less games. First off the WP7 marketplace is the newest out of the three app marketplaces of iOS, Android, and Windows Phone. It just takes time to build up a lot of apps, and WP7 has had the least time so far.
Since it is the newest marketplace, it prevents a lot of devs from trying the platform. For indie developers, not that much. But for larger studios there needs to be at least a certain user base before they will develop apps. I have also heard some people mention that it requires additional work to port existing games over to WP7.
This is what leads to the higher prices for the well known games like Angry Birds and Fruit Ninja. Since less high profile games have been ported over, the well known games can charge more. There really isn't an incentive for them to lower prices since they are already known on other platforms and are past the "give away stuff to get your name out phase".
Additionally, Xbox Live games seem to come at a $3 minumum, although there are a couple of free ones that just give a few points (like, 50) of gamerscore. If you don't limit yourself to the big-name games, you'll see a lot of indie ones that are free or only a dollar, and some are very high quality. The trick is sorting through them to find the good ones.

Additionally if you want a game but don't like the price watch it for a while, it might go on sale or maybe even free for a limited time.

great list of HD2 games
I use the HD2 mainly as a business phone but I have to say, games suck for Windows Mobile. Especially because the likes of Experiment 13 and Crayon Physics (check them both out) show the potential. It's one of the reasons I may switch to a different OS next time round (if the other OSes get Exchange Support nailed).
So true, games for Windows Mobile SUCK ASS in comparison to all the other OSs. I mean, the iPhone doesn't have a 1Ghz processor, but it sure as hell supports games that would make you believe it does. Gotta hate WM market and development for it. Just the crappiest combo all around.
I wouldnt say that at all. i have at least 20 solid games with amazing graphics. on the other hand marketplace sucks in general due to the way Microsoft threw it together. useless search engine to get anything or even know what you're getting is any good for the money you spent!!
overall, there's hope for windows platform, just do research outside of the marketplace. im very happy with my programs. one of my most favorite is garmin mobile xt with 2011 maps. my games... zuma, bejeweled 2, Kiwi, archibald adventures, boneyboy, zeus quest, melt down, xtrakt 2, spinballs, electropia demo, super ko boxing, tower defense, sonic spinball, atomic cannon v3, experiment 13, 10 games for betting. I could go on all night, but again i've been a ton of research outside of Marketplace because i know its useless and over priced at that.
i find it wierd.. with the GREAT amt of pay the folks at MS earn, they might as well hire me because any idea from me will be WAYYYYYYY better than marketplace..
yes i am upset.. the other os will gain more and more users due to their robust apps scene ..

i have to ask you about Crayon Physics...how do you download and install that game.
I have the executable file on my computer but it's not the same as my usual cab files, etc.
can you help me get it onto my HD2?
thanks

(Sorry a little tired to be of more help but...) if you find the game's original website, they have a mobile version to purchase/download - it is not the same executable as you have on your PC (although similar levels I believe).
A bit of googling should be your answer

To be honest all those games are always repeated when this sort of discussion comes around. Some of those games (like Xtrakt) only work with the hacks that some people have given meaning they are not FULLY compatible (anything that needs a work around to work shouldn't be considered compatible). Same with Experiment 13 since the Gsensor should work for that too. The other games are alright, but nothing to cheer about. Some are simple puzzle games that are recycled into different graphics. Some have lame graphics, but are fun to play (atomic cannon is great and probably the best of all you posted). If you look at the iPhone/Android section of games SOMEHOW they are supporting 3D graphics with fluid motion. Newer and different versions of games come out for their platform too. WM is so rare to have someone develop something new for it. Especially recently with the OS going out the window.
Ok to start off, no flaming, respect to game devs for android, but I am asking myself why don't we have decent games? Why? Now I love the games we have, but there's only a 100 or so out of 10000000 games on android market that are worth playing. If you go to 'just in' in the games section then all there is are puzzles and low quality sex games. WTF! Seriously this is getting worse. Android market is growing and growing with apps but they don't really have games that give us the full potential of our high tech devices, they look more like games for the HTC g1, I am very dissapointed with this and my next phone is going to be a iPhone despite the amazing feautures of android just because of the quality of apps. Or shall I say games more because one of the main reasons to get a android was to play some awsome games. Gameloft is doing a amazing job to give good games. Love angry birds, adequate other game dev's, but that's about it. The rest are just low quality rubbish. Not flaming just my point of view. Waiting for iPhone 5 if this doesn't improve. This started when I played COD : Zombies and cut the rope on my friends iPhone 4.
What's your thought please share

That said, [EPIC FAIL]
It is easier to develop on iPhone because there is a one -fixed- kind of device. I mean, no different resolutions, no different devices, no different hardware on devices like android. Of course it is easier to develop. Nevertheless, still there is better applications for Android. Or am I wrong? iPhone is more like a "showcase" which is useless in real world -in my opinion-. But I would buy iPhone if I want games.

So ur telling me android can't handle gaming?
And I agree about the resoloution, but now the new android devices are always 400x800 so why not have specific games just for those.

No, I'm not saying Android is not for games. I'm saying that iPhone is. Android has a different target in mind. Of course there are plenty of games, from sports to FPS, but if you're not ok with them, well, iPhone is the only way.
If you're just complaining why android doesn't have "cool" games, well, do a forum search, you'll find plenty of threads about this. No need to open one more.

I was just expressing my opinion, and gaming is one of the things you do on ur phone when u r just bored sometimes on the move. Im not complaining about android, in just thinking what's so hard about making a good game on android. I think android market should have some requirements on devs making games to sell to improve the standard rather than people just publishing basic puzzle games or sex wikis lol.

Mine is 480x320 and I love it. And I am not going to buy a "huge" device. And I think I am not the only one.
That would mean review over the market, and that may lead to an annual fee to post applications on the Market. I don't personally want to pay a fee for just posting my free apps, nor I'd like if I were selling low-price ones. Applications on the Market are indexed though by the community: if the majority of the population likes a sex game, then it will be in both the main screen and in "most popular" of their category. As of new games and apps, it's up to the developer to publicize it, just like I'm doing.

I don’t understand why gaming companies such EA, Capcom, Square Enix, etc don’t offer the same amount of games that we can easily find on App Store?
I used to have on my iPhone games like, SF 4, NBA Jam, Dead Space, Metal Slug, Dragons Lair a many others that I cannot find on Android market.
Is there any explanation for it? Android as far as I know is the most popular OS so why those companies don’t develop games to Android?
And I know I can get ROMs for some games (like Neogeo – Metal Slug, King of Fighters etc) but it’s not the same, those ROMs are not really developed for Android, they are adapted so for me we cannot have the best of it.
Wouldn’t be cool to have a SF 3D for O3D? or Dead Space 3D?
Which games, in 3D, would you like to see it?
The only big company that I can see doing a great job is Gameloft, apart from them the rest is rest at the moment.
Shame that they are not treating Android with respect.
Several studies have shown that Android users are much less keen on buying apps than iOS users. Therefore, the large gaming companies you mentioned probably estimate the market for complex Android games is too small to be lucrative.

Perhaps they are not willing to buy because there are no "good games" at the moment?
I have bought 3 3D from Gameloft and will be buy more from them very soon.
In my opinion it is just a matter of what the marketing is offering if there is good games people would pay for it.
I think it may also be because android users are innate hackers. Kind of kills their bottom line.
If we really get "Onlive" on our Android devices like it was announced, gaming is going to take another direction. Try "onlive viewer" and check what gaming is all about.

I don't agree with that, it would be same idea for game consoles.
The gamers know that it is possible to get pirate games online and unlock their consoles, but I do believe that it's not everybody that does that and the same you can say about Android.
You have millions of people using the system and it's impossible to think that all these people would be hacking their phones.
Even iPhones can be unlocked (Jailbreak - Cydia) where you can get free stuff as well.
I really don't see much of logic if this is what these companies are thinking.

Have you ever tried to hack an Xbox? I'm a pretty tech savvy Guy and I can't do it. It all hangs on security, and mobile phones lack it for the most part. I personally would release to xbla instead of a mobile platform.

Its pretty easy to hack wii/xbox360/ps3 i have done that on all my consoles easy to hack iphone also android everything are hackable! So thats not a good excuse that the big companys dont make the good games to android its all about money and tactics from apples side. But as seen now it very soon will change alot more ppl having android phones today. Apple is at top now but they are close to fall in near future a company are at top for awhile but sooner or later its going to fall. Also its another reason that apple will fall steve jobs have quited. He is pretty good to talk so he had done alot for the company just becouse of hes way to talk about apple product! so hopefully in near future the game companys see its alot money to earn at android too just look at gameloft they earn pretty good for those android games becouse thats quality games its worth to pay for!
I have an idea, that I imagine is not at all original. An idea that I have harbored for a long time now, but seems ever more important as the release of android gaming consoles become a reality.
I think that android needs "achievements" or trophies or accomplishments if you wanna be original. I'd love to see Google "certify" certain game titles (because crappy short easy games would ruin the system) and have each title have a max of 100 accomplishment points and perhaps even have gamer ID's like Xbox live. What do you guys think? I just knew my brother rents a lot of games he wouldn't otherwise play to get achievements and it seems like it could be a great thing for developers.
Hello!
I've recently completed the first book of my text adventure game after a year of work, and I would be very grateful if you could give it a try and give me some feedback. In this game you play as an ordinary guy trying to win a mage tournament against the most powerful mages in the world, in the hopes of winning the grand prize, and using it to fulfill your lifelong dream of becoming a mage yourself.
As you progress, you will also get to know the inhabitants of the continent that the tournament takes place on, and you will learn that a person called the Creator established several utopias in this realm a few hundred years ago, where animals and humans could live in harmony, and where food was created through magic. What you will get to experience throughout the game, however, is the downfall of these utopias, and you can even choose to save them from destruction if you so desire.
Besides the traditional choice making, you also have stats you can level up, and there are different checks in the game to see if you have the necessary level to take a certain action. For example, if your ancient languages level is high enough, you can understand when the animals or monsters speak.
Here is the link to the game: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.magiumgames.magium
I hope you'll all enjoy playing this game as much as I enjoyed making it!
Cheers!
Congratulations
Dude, your game is just amazing, the best app I have ever downloaded in my phone, I just want to congratulate you and say that I cant wait to see what happens next! Keep up with the good work (and please tell me the first book's ending can be reversed ).
P.S.: why don't you put your game for ios as well? I have some friends that loved the idea but only have iPhones.
I just saw the XDA thread on r/androiddev and I remembered this forum. Just wanted to let everyone here know that since my initial post on this forum, the 2nd book has also been completed and the story is still in progress. Chapter 4 of book 3 was published a few days ago on android and iOS.
Cheers!
Hey there, thanks for sharing your game!

Unfortunately, it looks like Google Play purchases are unavailable in Montenegro, and this game relies exclusively on IAPs for income (the game doesn't have any ads). Aside from that, if I were to publish the game there without an option to pay to unlock the next books faster, I'd be sure to get negative reviews from people. I'll publish it there if Google ever makes purchases available in that region.

Makes sense. Maybe you could consider making an alternative version without IAPs, so that you could sell it from Play Store and XDA store with an upfront price? Or maybe there are other IAP providers that do not depend on Google's slow expansion? I have no idea how practical that would be, but at least you would be able to reach a few more people...

I can't really sell it with an upfront price because the game is still in development. The first two books and first four chapters of book 3 are available, which all amount to around 600k words on all paths, but the series will have 5 books or more, and I don't want to ask for the full price now, because it takes a long time to write these.
I had the game up on the amazon store for some time, but there were barely any downloads coming from there, so I pulled it out, because it wasn't worth the extra effort to port a new version for that store.
When the whole story is finished, I'm planning to put a full-priced version of the game on Steam, and maybe then I'll also consider some other stores, but that will be years from now.
Ok, good luck and sorry for noise.
Amazing story, enjoyable and fun. Must be crazy hard to keep up with writing it tho.
A song that kinda feels like it matches this is "Tabi no Tochuu (Spice and Wolf)" by AmaLee.
Barry (my one at least) is a crazy but smart guy focused on his aim, which I love.
Good luck with the rest of it, I'll defo be keeping up.
PS - You might wanna secure achievements by forcing over the cloud or something cause someone can get the books for free by editing the savefile as root.
This is interesting
