Why is gaming on Android still lacking of great companies? - LG Optimus 3D

I don’t understand why gaming companies such EA, Capcom, Square Enix, etc don’t offer the same amount of games that we can easily find on App Store?
I used to have on my iPhone games like, SF 4, NBA Jam, Dead Space, Metal Slug, Dragons Lair a many others that I cannot find on Android market.
Is there any explanation for it? Android as far as I know is the most popular OS so why those companies don’t develop games to Android?
And I know I can get ROMs for some games (like Neogeo – Metal Slug, King of Fighters etc) but it’s not the same, those ROMs are not really developed for Android, they are adapted so for me we cannot have the best of it.
Wouldn’t be cool to have a SF 3D for O3D? or Dead Space 3D?
Which games, in 3D, would you like to see it?
The only big company that I can see doing a great job is Gameloft, apart from them the rest is rest at the moment.
Shame that they are not treating Android with respect.

Several studies have shown that Android users are much less keen on buying apps than iOS users. Therefore, the large gaming companies you mentioned probably estimate the market for complex Android games is too small to be lucrative.

Perhaps they are not willing to buy because there are no "good games" at the moment?
I have bought 3 3D from Gameloft and will be buy more from them very soon.
In my opinion it is just a matter of what the marketing is offering if there is good games people would pay for it.

I think it may also be because android users are innate hackers. Kind of kills their bottom line.

If we really get "Onlive" on our Android devices like it was announced, gaming is going to take another direction. Try "onlive viewer" and check what gaming is all about.

I don't agree with that, it would be same idea for game consoles.
The gamers know that it is possible to get pirate games online and unlock their consoles, but I do believe that it's not everybody that does that and the same you can say about Android.
You have millions of people using the system and it's impossible to think that all these people would be hacking their phones.
Even iPhones can be unlocked (Jailbreak - Cydia) where you can get free stuff as well.
I really don't see much of logic if this is what these companies are thinking.

I've seen the thread and it looks promising, I hope they will offer that officially to Android and hopefully people outside USA will be able to use this service.
It's going to be very cool!

Have you ever tried to hack an Xbox? I'm a pretty tech savvy Guy and I can't do it. It all hangs on security, and mobile phones lack it for the most part. I personally would release to xbla instead of a mobile platform.

Its pretty easy to hack wii/xbox360/ps3 i have done that on all my consoles easy to hack iphone also android everything are hackable! So thats not a good excuse that the big companys dont make the good games to android its all about money and tactics from apples side. But as seen now it very soon will change alot more ppl having android phones today. Apple is at top now but they are close to fall in near future a company are at top for awhile but sooner or later its going to fall. Also its another reason that apple will fall steve jobs have quited. He is pretty good to talk so he had done alot for the company just becouse of hes way to talk about apple product! so hopefully in near future the game companys see its alot money to earn at android too just look at gameloft they earn pretty good for those android games becouse thats quality games its worth to pay for!

yes they suck in the traditional gamer sense but many are actually quite entertaining to just waste some time.

Uh... There are tons of games for windows mobile, including emulators. How could anyone get the impression that there's no games for windows mobile?
http://www.smartphonemag.com/cms/awards/2008/winners_ppc_games
There probably aren't many games which revolve around the sensor (yet), simply because not many devices have one.

what's up with games?

Ok to start off, no flaming, respect to game devs for android, but I am asking myself why don't we have decent games? Why? Now I love the games we have, but there's only a 100 or so out of 10000000 games on android market that are worth playing. If you go to 'just in' in the games section then all there is are puzzles and low quality sex games. WTF! Seriously this is getting worse. Android market is growing and growing with apps but they don't really have games that give us the full potential of our high tech devices, they look more like games for the HTC g1, I am very dissapointed with this and my next phone is going to be a iPhone despite the amazing feautures of android just because of the quality of apps. Or shall I say games more because one of the main reasons to get a android was to play some awsome games. Gameloft is doing a amazing job to give good games. Love angry birds, adequate other game dev's, but that's about it. The rest are just low quality rubbish. Not flaming just my point of view. Waiting for iPhone 5 if this doesn't improve. This started when I played COD : Zombies and cut the rope on my friends iPhone 4.
What's your thought please share

That said, [EPIC FAIL]
It is easier to develop on iPhone because there is a one -fixed- kind of device. I mean, no different resolutions, no different devices, no different hardware on devices like android. Of course it is easier to develop. Nevertheless, still there is better applications for Android. Or am I wrong? iPhone is more like a "showcase" which is useless in real world -in my opinion-. But I would buy iPhone if I want games.

So ur telling me android can't handle gaming?
And I agree about the resoloution, but now the new android devices are always 400x800 so why not have specific games just for those.

No, I'm not saying Android is not for games. I'm saying that iPhone is. Android has a different target in mind. Of course there are plenty of games, from sports to FPS, but if you're not ok with them, well, iPhone is the only way.
If you're just complaining why android doesn't have "cool" games, well, do a forum search, you'll find plenty of threads about this. No need to open one more.

I was just expressing my opinion, and gaming is one of the things you do on ur phone when u r just bored sometimes on the move. Im not complaining about android, in just thinking what's so hard about making a good game on android. I think android market should have some requirements on devs making games to sell to improve the standard rather than people just publishing basic puzzle games or sex wikis lol.

Mine is 480x320 and I love it. And I am not going to buy a "huge" device. And I think I am not the only one.
That would mean review over the market, and that may lead to an annual fee to post applications on the Market. I don't personally want to pay a fee for just posting my free apps, nor I'd like if I were selling low-price ones. Applications on the Market are indexed though by the community: if the majority of the population likes a sex game, then it will be in both the main screen and in "most popular" of their category. As of new games and apps, it's up to the developer to publicize it, just like I'm doing.

why does gameloft ignore android so badly!!!

why do gameloft games comes after 3 or 4 months after it came for iphone?? android phones have more powerful hardware than iphone..sometimes when i search for gameloft games for android..the iphone ones show up and there are so many amazing gameloft games for iphone which havent released in android like "sacred of odyssey" "shadow guardian" "nova 2" "dungeon hunter 2" "eternal legacy" "star battalion" "asphalt 6" "hero of sparta 2"....why so much hate towards android will we get those games any sooner? is there anything we can do to get them soon?
Lets face it, they have a huge fan boy following. Hell even the media it's biased towards apple, so of course they are going to cater. Their app market it's also bigger, giving them more competition, no matter how useless some of them are. That and from what I hear, doing know the truth of it because I don't know how to crack, android apps are easier to pirate. Kind of annoying, but then I sit and look how much freedom I have with my phone, and it makes me feel so much better. If phone were sociopolitical movements, iphones would be communism and android the free world

Yep. iPhony devs only have one primary OS to deal with, whereas Android is often customized by carrier, phone model, region and version meaning devs have to work way harder at developing on it.

[Q] Do you think Android is a lucrative platform for developing 3d games?

Hello All,
I'm new to your forum but I've been developing software and games for over 25 years. After recently retiring my Zii Egg to a PMD after ZiiLabs failed to release the dev community a bug free version of Android that actually purposefully was left with hardware support disabled. All the hardware features were there running off their crap OS but they left it out for the Android developers.
Basically I got fkd out of $500 or something..Big deal, I moved on with our PC game development and forgot about Android until last Christmas when I was traveling to see my Family in Texas and had a chance to play with my sister's Galaxy running 2.1. There were limitations but the potential amazed me so I went out and grabbed a Droid X and started digging into the device.
My question to anyone who may have insight is: IS it worth my time to develop for Android when so many are becoming unhappy by the device limitations set by the carriers. For instance if I was to develop a multiplayer realtime simulation or game the technologies that are employed by the carriers such as B.O.D. (Bandwidth on Demand) would create insane latency issues.
Any thoughts or feedback would be appreciated.
Ty and Peace!
Snowcrash
Right now I feel the market for android is... Well stupid. Most people that have android phones aren't especially tech savvy and really don't know what kind of potential there phone has right at this moment.
Unlike IOS which is one form of hardware that anyone can jump on and play a game, regardless of it's release date and the current technology in their slightly newer Ipod Touch or Ipad.
But, I think that's going to change. Tablets are coming out from all kinds of manufactures and a lot of people are looking to jump in on the excitement. Nvidia is making a quad core processor and gpu (Kal-El) that is really showing a lot of performance benchmarks.
So I do think the market is going to get bigger, better and more lucrative as the serious gamers starting switching to tablets for their gaming needs.
But again... Do remember that it's going to take awhile as tablets still aren't a replacement for a computer and they still don't trump little johnny and susie's want of the PS Vita or 3DS.
Thank you for your very comprehensive answer! Sounds like I'll stick to PC and console game dev a bit longer before dipping into the Android zone. I really love the potential of the device but I concur that the demand won't exceed other platform's that are already very lucrative.
Thank you again for your response
Peace
I think 3D cell phone gaming is a hugely untapped market that will see some hugely major growth in the next few years. I myself just purchased a Sony Xperia Play. I don't think the Play will be a massive hit, but I think it will set the stage to get people seriously thinking about 3D gaming on their phones. By the time the Play 2 comes around, I think we are going to start seeing a lot more interest in 3d gaming on people's cellular devices.

Republique: Extremely promising game needs Kickstarter funding for an Android version

Game developer Camoflaj, led by Metal Gear Solid 4 producer and Halo 4 creative director Ryan Payton, are making an awesome new game for mobile, and they are using Kickstarter to fund it. Take a look (check out the video!):
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/486250632/republique-by-camouflaj-logan
It looks to be the first truly promising "real game" for mobile.
Sadly, the game is currently announced for iOS only, but I backed it anyway. I noticed many backers in the comments asking for an Android version, so I emailed Ryan asking about it. Here's what he had to say:
"Thanks for the AWESOME email. I totally hear you regarding Android.
We definitely want the game on Android, it's just a matter of funding and resources for us. If funding goes well, it'll be a natural step for us to do an Android version. I sincerely want you to be able to play this game.
Thanks for writing in, my friend.
-rp"
So, if Android fans back this game and indicate that they want an Android version on day 1 in the project's comment section on Kickstarter, we will guarantee that this extremely promising game comes to Android.
This will also send a strong message that Android users are serious about games and are willing to pay good money for great games.

No offence m8 ...... i can tell that your all puppy pissing it's self excited about this revolutionary game.
But your talking garbage when you claim
"we will guarantee that this extremely promising game comes to Android."
The quote you posted from the developers DOES NOT say anything of the sort, all it makes is an extremely vague 'Aspiration' to bring the game to Android ........ to anyone with any real experience of corporate doublespeak all it actually says is 'if, maybe, could, we would like to'. Their concept blurb says NOTHING about Android at all
Also your title is completely misleading ....... the entire concept needs funding (which it won't get) just to bootstrap the iOS version, never mind Android. Pledging money at this stage gives not even the vaguest suggestion of supporting development of an Android version
I'd also like to point out that devs with a track record like these guys have really shouldn't need to use distributed participatory funding sources as they should be able to go direct to big games publishers and get all the funding they needed ....... if the idea is any good. Only reason i can logically put forth for using this type of fan based funding is to avoid being under the thumb of a publisher .. but these guys have enough industry weight to negotiate a hands off development funding deal anyway ...........
Further i can understand gamers getting all 'am involved in the dev industry' excited about this type of proposal, kids get excited about all kinds of crap. But the minimum bonus pledge is about twice the cost of a top price Mobile game, am not even going to comment on how much it costs to get awarded a hoody or a signed piece of junk from the devs.
What i would like to know (but really can't be arsed to research, as i really don't care enough) is what happens to the pledges when this proposal fails to achieve its minimum funding requirement .........
I'll state right here right now no way will they make $500,000 ...... if they do i will add a banner to my sig that says something like "République developers kicked my ass please support this project it is of galactic significance" for 6 months or something.
Being positive it does sound like an interesting game concept, somewhat like a hifi next gen version of the old early 3D Amiga game interphase, and i definitely like the "non-sexualized female lead" concept, can't help the sneaking suspicion that "non-sexualized female lead" is pretty naive though game kiddies love tits and ass ... fact.
If you want to support developers then choose to support genuine up and coming indies who genuinely need the support as they do not have a track record that can delivery serious industry funding.
