i NEED TO BRICK or fix ipad 2 64gb wifi+3g - General Questions and Answers

i have an ipad 2 and when i plug it into my mac or pc it says not charging i used my friends iphone 4s charger my ipod touch charger and the actual ipad 2 usb charger so i took it to apple and it works with them im not sure if they use different usb's or something with their macs make them work but i have the rest of march until my warranty runs out and i dont want to end up with a bad ipad so i want to brick it so they can replace it. is there anyway to brick it?
it was on 5.0.1 the problem just started about march 6th for no reason then i factory reset it the problem stayed then i updated it to 5.1 and the problem is still there. any suggestions to fix it or brick it?

help please bump

Well, seeing as you WANT to brick the ipad I don't think it'd be too hard if you could just jailbreak it.. but you can't seeing as you want a warranty replacement.
The best option would just be walking into the apple store and asking nicely for a replacement as the pad you have isn't charging properly on your devices.
As a fix, you could always try another 3rd party cable at walmart, I have a few cables that only work on mac and it annoys me to no end.
Or you could just microwave your ipad and say it broke. (don't actually do this xD it voids the warranty and is dangerous)

ok thanks and gald you told me your joking cause i was considering it lol

Check your HDMI port

My HDMI port was a dud. Getting a replacement. Just FYI.
Mine is a dud also. Haven't requested a replacement as of yet because I'm assuming all the G2x have problems. I'm waiting for the "Fixed" batches to get here.

Oh really? Hmm. My first one G2X's hdmi worked and my friend's also works.
My HDMI port works great with a generic 6' cable.
I think mine is a dud too..i got a warranty replacement because my old one was overheating like crazy, then this one is doing the same thing... ?? .... but this one the HDMI doesn't work...the one before this the HDMI stopped working as well.....could it be clockworkmod? things did start going hinky on both phones after i installed that....hmmmm, maybe i will test it w/ stock recovery..just to see....i doubt it tho....

I have clockwork recovery with external SD and HDMI works fine
I thought my HDMI out was totally borked, but it works if you jam the plug in really, really hard.
Any movement of the phone/cord causes tearing on screen and then cuts out, making it useless in general. Tried 3 different cord. Grrrr....

I got one from Amazon that didn't work [thought it was the phone]. Picked one up at Best Buy yesterday {$30 ouch} and it works.
I bought one from Amazon. It works fine when my phone is displayed on the TV. But if I try to play a video it shows a few seconds then goes black and then repeats.
Weird.

What a load of crap!!! My HDMI port doesn't work either! Thats not the real issue though, I can't believe T-Mobile would charge me 9.99 to ship me a new device??? 39 Billion from AT&T and they still want to nickel and dime me. I tried to fight it, but the lady was extremely rude.
FYI, I have an April 26th batch of G2x with a HDMI cable I bought off Ebay and it works with no problems.
Mine works with the Casio 6 foot cable I purchased from Amazon. I did notice that you have to apply a bit more pressure than expected in order to assure that the cable is fully seated. It seems that the HDMI cover gets in the way a bit and the extra force is what's required to push past it.
Edit: Forgot to mention that my G2x was purchased from T-mobile on 4/20/11 with a manufacture date of 4/05/11.

usb port warranty return with broken screen

Hi,
So my usb port stopped charging and getting really hot so i called about the warranty and they said it is covered and that I may return the phone. However about 4 months about the phone was dropped and the screen cracked. now i am worried that if i send it in for a replacement phone they may charge me due to the cracked screen that never had anything to do with the usb charging port not working. anyone ever had an experience with this or advice?

You should call them and ask. I'd imagine they won't replace it and call it physical damage.

That would make sense. Well i guess I can see how much of a pia wireless charging is as the only charging method to use. Since that still works. Still though would suck if they call that physical damage since one had nothing to do with the other.

Well, give them a call and ask them. They would know better than anyone here.
The connectors on the n5 (usb and headphone) are fairly easy to change

I have heard that. However, now my phone keeps dropping calls when they are on LTE, never happened before. Could the usb cord have damaged this too? Since I tried to plug it in one more time to test it out and when i took the usb cord out i burned my thumb. So I had to out of need due to no other phone to use since no home phone get a moto g and wait to see if a new nexus comes out soon and if not just get another n5
I think they can wrap everything around the fact that there is physical damage on the phone.
You could always say that it was perfect when you sent it and maybe the postal carrier messed it up.

Haha I know they will do that. One of the facts I have learned this year from being an adult is any company will try to get your buck any way no matter what. Still trying to get $20 back another company stole from me.
Its called liability. No single employee feels they owe you anything. The "company" knows nothing about you or even cares. If you want your money back you need to attack the company and not an employee who just works there. Even the CEO of the company is just an employee. The company is just a machine. Stick a grenade in its gears and you'll get your money as well as your screen fixed.

Whoa I never attacked any employee. The employees are just there to help. Most of the time they are pretty helpful. I wasn't even talking about Google for the $20 or about my phone. Nor will I name the company since I don't want to start a flame war.

[WARNING] PMA Wireless Charging defective on LG G3

As many of you know, the AT&T LG G3 is not like the rest of the G3's when it comes to wireless charging. The AT&T unit uses the PMA standard and not the QI type chargers.
Unfortunately after spending a few hundred dollars on wireless chargers and 2 Quick circle cases, I have discovered that the charging unit on the phone is defective.
I purchased 3 Duracell Power-mat chargers along with 2 quick circle cases.
First LG G3 with Circle case charged fine for the first day then failed. I guessed it might have been the case so I purchased new case and tried the new case on a new Power-mat - The phone did not charge. No charging light, no charging animation
I exchanged my LG G3 at best buy and tested the wireless charging in store - and the existing cases and the new LG G3 charged just fine.
After 24 hours the phone stopped charging... I tested my iPhone 4 and the battery packs and on the Power-mat and both charged fine.
Once again I exchanged the phone and used the new Circle case to charge - this time the wireless charging worked for a couple days and again this morning it stopped working.
I went back to best buy and was able to confirm that the circle case and the power-mats are all working and its the actual phone that has stopped working for the third time. 3 phones out of 3 phones have failed after no more than 48 hours using wireless charging - I have also noticed that others in the non-branded LG forum are having the same issues with the PMA charging.
I contacted LG and the lady wants me to send in my phone and be left with out a phone for a couple weeks so that they can repair it and see if there is anything wrong with it.
Please chime in if you are having the same issue.
Equipment involved in testing:
3 x LG G3 (AT&T) - all three failed
2 x LG G3 Quick Circle Case for AT&T - both still functioning and work on new AT&T LG G3's
3 x Duracell Powermat - All three still work with iPhone 4 and Galaxy s3 with case
Contact information for LG

Thats something.
Your Canadian neighbors are using pma too.
Maybe lg finally realizes PMA IS JUNK.
I cant even find a pma case here in canada.
Always have to look at AT&T case.
I .... AT&T. Don't need there logo on my phone

Thanks for starting the thread!!!
I gave ya thanks also. I talked to Customer Service yesterday at AT&T and I have to now bring my phone to a repair shop to Tuesday due to the Holiday. I talked to the repair center and they said that basically that I will have to be sent a new phone, because although the person I talked to believed me she said she would have to call att to get me a new phone sent because they don't stock the LG G3 obviously. It sucks that I am gonna have to flash my phone back to stock and what not. Obviously there is a major problem with the phone and Powermat charging. I hope LG figures it out and its just a hardware fix. Maybe something is tripping software wise and blocking it from charging. I would almost bet its software because it seems like it wants to connect when you first place it on the mat it makes a sound then disconnects. AT&T put something in the software and the hardware of the phone to block QI charging so I guess they didn't do enough testing with the software to block the QI on the ATT phone. I think it's ridiculous to force someone to use Powermat and not give you the option to choose because ATT is part of the powermat alliance or whatever the crap the group is called. The only way powermat will take off is if the i-sheep include it as a feature in the Iphone 6. It is rumored that NFC may be on the Horizon for the new Iphone and you can bet your ass if they add wireless charging it will be that powermat crap. The only good thing is we will see accessories out the azz for powermat if iphone got wireless charging.
Anyways Great thread 5*
Leroy
I was on the phone with ATT for an hour to get a replacement. They said since the phone charges correctly with the cord it wasn't anything wrong with the phone. I had to speak to a supervisor as well as an LG rep to tell ATT it was a hardware issue and that it was covered under warranty just to get a refurbish phone sent to me. Looking at this I want to send back the referb and keep my original phone knowing its bound to happen again. Maan this sucks. I like my wireless charging.
I picked up the LG Quick view case and powermat charger from Att store 2 weeks ago. No issues at all except I noticed my battery life was cut in half. Not sure why but I quit using them both and battery is back what it was. Both are going on Ebay.
Well the day i click the link on to read this forum is the day my wireless charging stopped, this must be a software issue cause how can it just stop right out of the blue, I'm blaming this thread for stopping my wireless charging when i read it lol, seriously there must be a way to get it to work. Is it confirmed that it is the phone and not the case? I was wirelessly charging for about a month.

Neverends,
Where were those other generic threads you were talking about that people were starting to have the same problems? I am just trying to do more research but have yet to find any other threads discussing this same problem. On another note I guess 2moro I will get another phone ordered, heck maybe I should wait because I would hate to keep blowing thru phones if it ends up being a software issue.
can you try a factory reset? I have a feeling this issue is like so many other little quirks of the phone (things that just stop working all of a sudden) and it's a software issue (like the Aux cable issues)

I was gonna do that b4 calling ATT back. I have read that it didn't help in another thread. I am rooted so I have got to flash back to stock anyways. I bought a new router and tried flashing dd wrt on it so it's got My phone flashing behind today already. I will report back after I get it flashed back to factory settings though.

I had the same exact issue. Worked fine for a month and then all of a sudden one day stopped working for no apparent reason. I tried factory resetting and this did not work. Had to fight with AT&T to replace the phone as they just don't get it. Finally was replaced and works fine again. Let's see how long it lasts this time...

Apparently there is some competent people that work there. I actually got someone that knew about the issue. He remoted into my phone and looked for a reading and said yep I see there is an error with your wireless charging. I played stupid and am glad I flashed back to factory.
oh ya by the way going back to stock no root did not fix anything lol. Anyways the rep got me a new phone shipped out no hassle or problems at all.
He actually told me that they knew what was wrong and said that it isn't going to affect many people because a lot of people are not going to wireless charge if there is any truth to that, but that an update would not be pushed out for awhile for the fix. He said the new phone that they are sending me will not stop charging. Anyways we will see how that goes.

Wait a min so someone for at&t said this? And how did they remotely connect to it and check if the wireless charging works or if it shows and error cause that would actually help to pinpoint if its hardware or software, from the looks of it its faulty software that screws up the hardware cause if they send that ota and it doesn't work on phones that stopped wireless charging then it sucks. Hope that when that fix comes it restores phones that had the issue. That rep just answered one question but opened the door to a whole lot more.

That he did but from his choice of words which I could not by no means quote verbatim, he acted like it was software that messed up the hardware. He did get on my phone remotely because I had to give him access. It was pretty neat a little great play button overlay came up in the middle of my phone and stated an agent can see my screen. You know in the end your right...all he did was give me a reason to ask more questions but I had way much to do and still do than to talk to him. If my new phone bugs out then I am gonna have to make time to find out.
From my experience with multiple phones and multiple cases, I do not believe it is a software issue... I believe the actual hardware fails.... I do think see how restoring using LG flash tools would not resolve a software glitch

Fyi there is an att remote service installed on these phones by default so yes they can remote in. Ugh this blows as it just happened to me.

But no means do I actually know what's going on but anything is possible. It could be a situation where a software setting being set wrong could has caused a piece of hardware to short out. Ex: The software setting for allowed voltage was set to high and shorted a resistor for the hardware that controls wireless charging voltage and when the rep remotes into my phone he saw a reading of "null". So to sum up a software problem caused irreversible hardware damage.
One thing I can say indefinitely is the rep I dealt with said there was a memo on it and when he remotes into My phone he immediately within 30 seconds found what he was looking for and confirmed I needed a replacement phone. He then said it was a software problem that couldn't be corrected at the time.
I just hope the New phone I get is corrected, as he assured me it would. Who knows if it will. I hope whatever the cause LG and AT&T either finds the solution or have already.
Interesting, this insinuates a software change on the refurbished handset. Are you going to end up with a different build number? How long till it shows up in official builds? (These are just out loud musings.) Sorry to hear that there's yet another poor implementation on this phone. I think they were trying too hard to get out in front of Apple's announcement and the IFA.

When it gets here you bet I will go thru it with a tooth in a comb to see if there is any difference maybe they actually changed a piece a hardware in the New one to compensate for a software deficiency. If it stays fixed I am sure we will find out the truth way later or possibly never.
One thing the rep did say is that if there is a software update it would be a while because not a lot of people were utilizing the wireless charging.

Won't turn on, tried everything i know.

Recently my S2 skyrocket turned off for no reason. I just wanted to check the time and it was off. 5 mins before was doing good and I was using it as always. Battery was 80% charged and in good conditions. Tried turning it on, it didn't. Pulled out the battery couple of times, didn't help. So when I went home I plugged the charger and tried with and without battery, no reaction at all. Tried to boot into recovery and download mode, nothing. Went to a local phone repairer and told me it was a problem about an internal part, something like ' memory chip' (don't know if I'm saying it right in english) He said it happens a lot with galaxy s2 and s3 phones. It would cost about 40$ to repair. I don't know if it's worth since the phone is too old now and not sure how much it'll resist or maybe this problem occurs again in no time. So I would appreciate if somebody knows anything, even a little might help me. Thanks.
Note: Phone was sim unlocked, using it in europe. No root, stock jellybean. (Done rooting and flashings before but it was all stock at the time)
Some time it happens if your motherboard is affected by VIRUS!!! In this situation you have no option rather than replacing it..
Sounds like hardware failure. Is it worth $40 to fix it? Up to you, although I would like to point out that the most modern replacements for the SR: the M8, S5 and G3, are all at least $200 through AT&T right now. The Rocket may not be worth fixing from a "what's the phone worth" point of view, but if you're not willing or able to dish out that much cash, the cost of repairing vs. upgrading might make repairing the older phone worthwhile.

Well that's the problem. I don't feel like spending again for a new phone, the rocket was fairly good for my needs so I'm going with the repairing. It's a bit much for me but anyway I need the phone now. Kinda strange how a failure can happen like this and without a good reason, no signs of any problems at all.

Question about warranty

Hello everybody,
I have bought my Nexus 5 in January 2014, but I notice that my call volume is really low and this is something I had from the very beginning I bought this phone. Also my micro usb port is dying because I have to position the cable for it to charge (And yes I tried different cables).
My question is if I go back to the store where I bought my device and tell them about these issues, will these fall under warranty or not? I live in Europe so I have 2 years of warranty. But I just want to be sure this falls under it. And I'm even a little bit scared if they send it back to LG that I will have to pay something..
Thanks in advance
Your usb port should be covered by the warranty but they can ask you to prove that you didn't damage the device.
You can contact them through the Hardware Warranty Center.
