Hello! - HTC Sensation

Just wanted to say, I have a Nexus S, Samsung Vibrant, HTC HD2, T-Mobile My touch and last but not least, I now own a HTC Sensation! Today I took back my Samsung Galaxy S II for the Sensation, the GS2 sucked so bad, it has great specs but it is bottled necked with Touch Wiz. I hate Samsung so much. The HD2 had great specs but it was bottled necked with Windows Mobile 6.5. So, please guy's tell me what's the best Rom for the Sensation, a safe recovery option for the device just might a soft brick becomes a issue...thanks. Also, never buy a Samsung product ever! There phones never gets updated in the US and once you buy it you'll hate it! I love HTC or just good old Vanilla...trust me Samsung sucks!

My 2 cents on the recovery side of things: 4ext recovery. I had used CWM previously but can't see myself changing since getting 4ext. The touch interface is great and the customized themes are sweet
As for ROMS, I'm certainly not the most widely experienced but have used CM7 and InsertCoin, had some issues with both but having sorted a few things out since then I could probably go back to InsertCoin without any dramas. I'm currently running DarkForest and loving it, smooth and super stable. Great support from the hard working dev too

HTC Touch Diamond2, any good?

Hey, I've been looking on the Diamond2 on different sites where they sell used ones, it seems to be a cheaper version of HTC Hero but with WM 6.1/6.5, same processor, same RAM, camera and similar displays.
So I've been thinking of getting one and install XDAndroid (Which I had on my HTC Touch Diamond too) since its being updated and seem to be more and more stable, but I need your opinions first
XDAndroid on TD2 is not ready for general use at all in my opinion. Its quite slow and has to run off sd card, so you can't use it. For me it tends to freeze or just has horrible lag, not sure which. It also seems to mess up WM when I boot back up into it, but that might have just been a one off.
However, if you are at all into WM, you will find a very capable phone. But if all you want is android, I would say no deal. Not yet anyway. If you want android, go for an android phone.
ok because I saw the XDAndroid thread and they said they had fixed those problems with the latest rootfs and zimage, and I guess its as fast as XDAndroid on Touch Diamond?
I havent actually used XDAndroid on Touch Diamond so I can't compare speed. But the fact that the camera isn't working and it cant be installed to rom is really the only reason I haven't switched. Plus they say the battery life isn't the best but I can't confirm since I havn't really used it for any period of time.
If you are used to how it runs on TD you may not find it any different. But I will still stand by my previous statement in that if you want android, get an android phone.
i have used XDANDROID on my diamond 2 for a few weeks, its ok, still not stable enough and too many issues to be used daily,
if you want to use android on a daily basis and have full functionality then i have to agree with LordVarkson, as there are way too many issues with android on TD2
although WM on the diamond 2 is really stable and works very well and is more than capable of running HTC sense (in fact HTC released a stock rom with sense on it )
ok thanks for the answers
the problem is the price, a HTC Hero cost about $300 and the Diamond2 $180, that I have to pay more for a free os feels, well, what the f*ck, but true true, Android works way better on Hero than on Diamond2 but is it worth the price? Since WM feels old fashion but its cooler with a phone with Android that not many others have. I will look for a cheap Hero if I can find one though, but my economy isn't very good since I can't get a job (too young)
Yes, I understand you problem. Before I could work, I just scraped together money from whatever I could do, and bought second had of sites like ebay. If you are sure to get from a reputable seller, they aren't that bad.
I´ve owned a Diamond 2 and can say it´s a great device, never got any problem.
Of course after getting rid of the stock ROM and flashed with one from XDA

Today I decided to test my custom rom compared to a stock TD2 in the shops. I was devestated when the stock rom outperformed my high speed titanium rom. It was really fast, opening messaging in a second max, where my device took as long as 3 seconds to open

Lost my HTC HD2---what phone should I get?

I recently lost my HD2. I love this phone to death, I was among the 1st one tried out hyperdroib-v12, it was the best rom so far....Wondering what phone should I get this time. Here are some candidates:
Tmobile-G2x
HTC-HD7
Mytouch4G slide
or another HD2 ?
hoping for honest opinions here, pro and con? ...future stable tweak. I personally enjoy fast response, longer battery life, GPS, and user friendly..not so much of a theme, UI guys.
Thanks
i noticed you are a big HTC fan
so i'll suggest HTC Amaze, also called HTC Ruby
it's basically the old HTC Sensation upgraded
nice..thanks, looked it up ...HTC amaze is not being offered from Tmobile at the moment.
Based on what you're looking for, stability, fast response, battery life, GPS, and user experience it'd be wrong to suggest anything but WP7. You can't tweak it much but that's because it doesn't need to be tweaked to exceed android and even iOS in those categories.
wait for the nexus prime ;-)

Hi, I was in a similar situation to you a few weeks back...I replaced a broken HD2 with a new HD7 through Asurion (they were no longer offering the HD2 as a replacement :-( ), and after a few weeks of missing running Android, I bought another HD2 off of ebay for about $170. Now I have the HD2 as my primary phone running WP7 off NAND and Android off SD, and I have the HD7 to play with on the side while we wait for DFT to create an Android hack for that phone as well. The HD7 development is getting close, but it's not quite as far along as I'd like before I'll make the HD7 my primary phone--for me, the HD2 is still the king. I'd get another one of those, if I were you...
Id get the g2x

I have been using WP7 for a few months now and is one of the best phones i've ever had, i recommend you the HD7 you're not going to regret it!!
If you like installing Custom Roms ,Kernels etc. Than get the Nexus S
Or really wait for the Nexus Prime!
The Nexus S is a TOP Smartphone which is also very cheap!
I would wait for Nexus Prime.

[Q] New Phone advice

so I am getting a new phone, i have en evo 4g that i love but am thinking it is time to upgrade. my choices are moto. photon 4g, galaxy sii 4g, nexus s 4g, or another evo 4g. i do not want the evo 3d or design (dont like em). i am concerned about dev support, for rooting, & custom rom's. I like the hdmi port on my evo, but it's not a deal breaker.
i'd like some thoughts from the community on their experience with these phones and why they chose it over the others.
mods sorry if this is the wrong section, this is my first post.
thanks,
Jack
Out of all of them the GS II would be the best choice. Nexus S has more development because it's a Nexus, but its behind now in it's specs. I'm sure of how popular the GS line, it should have good development and its current in it's specs.
best chooise is sgs 2
GS2
please hit the thank you button
Most definitely the SGS2... both for the average user and the avid ROM flasher.
It is the best phone I have ever gotten right out of the box. I'm just stubborn lol
Nexus. Cause tw really isn't my thing.
-My life is a shooting range, people never change-
I bought the SGS II (Epic Touch) on release day and I've had a blast with this thing. the specs are top notch and we're getting more developers by the day. Got the CM team working on a port (or so I've heard) and people working on ICS and MIUI (if that's your thing).
Got no-touchwiz roms too for those who don't like it.
And since the EL12 update got leaked, no more Loss of Signal bug and no more Game Crash bug either.
I was considering switching from it to the Evo 3D or Photon for awhile, but now that the problems are fixed (much faster than we all expected over there), I've got no reason to.
SGS II FTW
Well I went with the SGSII: E4GT (that is one long #@$&'ing name). I am loving it. Got it rooted, first went with tnz Blend ROM, very nice smooth ROM. I didnt think it could get better, then I found Phantom Hacker's Blazer ROM. I'm on v4.0, odexed, with the stock EL29 kennel, running the FB15 modem and its great so smooth and fast. Going to flash the Gunslinger v1.4.1 kennel next.
Being new to this phone and flashing, I learned something that someone may find helpful as its not always talked about. I don't know if it is ROM specific, but when you do a full wipe, an easier way to restore your data is to go into CWM recovery, restore, advanced options, and restore your data from your nandroid back up. It works allot better for me than TB, at least with Blazer v4..0.
A always do your research before doing anything. This XDA community has been great!

Im so happy I want to cry

I've been using Android phones for about 2 years now, and my replacement G2 broke right before the 90 warranty. I got T-Mobile to give me a sensation for free luckily. Anyways, my experience with Android has always come down to this - fun to use, but never as responsive as other mobile OS's. Even rooted, my old Moto Cliq and G2 would lag. However, I just rooted and installed Android Revolution on my Sensation, and its ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT! No lag AT ALL. I know for a lot of you this is normal, but because I am discovering this just now, it's honestly a milestone for me. I was so sure I was going to switch to WP8 once it was released, but no longer. THANK YOU SO MUCH ANDROID DEV COMMUNITY!
Welcome aboard !
Next step - ditching Sense
I disagree :L with sense 4.0 it should be a much better experience but I understand why u might want to ditch sense 3.x XD
BTW. Not starting an argument just saying

i felt exactly the way you feel now when i got my sensation, and the experience was improved even further when i switched to ICS AOSP(-style) ROMs... i really think android can compete with iOS in terms of ui responsiveness now (though i have never used an iphone 4s).
Welcome to the cool Sensation! Happy Flashing! : )
Honestly sense 4.0 has been a great experience so far. There's absolutely no lag right now. I think I will try the AOSP roms once all of the kinks are worked out.
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA
thats how exactly how i felt bro
Stay where you're at or go to Sense 3.6 ICS. Sense 4.0 isn't ready yet and whatever you do, do not install Sense 3.5 - laggy as all get out.
Next step use an AOSP ROM like CM9
same here.... but i bought my g2 on ebay already kinda scuffed up almost a year ago. something happened suddenly with my g2 (semi-bricked) and showed it to tmobile and gave me a choice of a replacement phone, sensation 4g or mytouch q. are you serious??? i chose the sensation of course....
Be sure to go over to dev site and thank mike1986. He and others have done an awesome job on this ROM/firmware.

Yup. Just follow instructions here to a T, and you'll be amazed at how much better the Sensation gets from stock. Made the jump from Blackberry last August, and only did so because Android has come this far.
Good on ya!

Anybody Switch from a HD2?

The HD2 is still a beast, with its developers doing a good job with new ROMs etc. Just wondering what people who made a switch to the One S think about the change from their beloved HD2?
I'm working on my switch. Should have the One-S TMO version next week. I'll miss my HD2 as it has been a super nice first Android phone ;-) Just wanted to go to ICS and have a camera that works without all the problems the HD2 has for that release.
I just switched over last week. More for the fact that I had an upgrade with T-Mobile I might as well use, as the device being behind the times. Still worked with everything I threw at it, was the little phone that could, that's for sure.
I'm liking the upgrade though, everything is much snappier on the One S, but some video programs don't yet work with it like Hulu Plus and HBO Go. Aside from that, the smaller depth and nicer screen are wonderful. But I will always love my HD2.
I upgraded from the HD2 to the One S yesterday. So far I am lovin this phone!
The screen is sharper and looks so much nicer
Some people knock sense and I used to hate it until sense 4, now I love it.
It is so smooth and fast, no lag and is really nice to have faux 4g
I got tired of flashing my HD2 and with the android ICS roms not what I was wanting and it freezing all the time and having to do hard reboots.
It is slimmer, lighter and just a great phone. I am glad I switched and I say go for it.
Made the switch since Friday of last week, the one s is great but I really expected more from the battery. Believe it or not my HD2 was giving me about the same amount of juice plus I had a replaceable battery! Now this phone has to be charge by around 6hrs of use. That's what my old hd2 last on one battery running miui

Got my One S on day of release from T-Mobile and haven't looked back.
The HD2 is a great phone, but the One S is definitely an upgrade.
I will always have a soft spot for my HD2...it was my first smartphone.
I grew tired of flashing & rebooting to keep it going...since I was eligible for an upgrade, I waited for the release of the One S.
I've even considered getting the Amaze at one point, but held out for the One.
Once again in the near future, I will start to root the One S, but until then I'm enjoying the stock Sense 4!
Oh good ole Leo with clk and 4ext and so on so forth. It was a good phone. Still use it. I have have talk a tone, coupled with g voice. If I have internet I have a fully functioning HD2.
Present I have switched last week! Well actually the development on hd2 is still going but the last instaltments of the sense start running to slow on the hd2 because of kernel problems and hardware ( of course )
I wouldn't say i switched from my hd2 as I still mess around with it and it still remains in my pocket. Currently running the new hybrid paranoid android rom. I just use it for web browsing over wifi, games, and music. If it supported micro sims I would still pop it in every other day too! I have a few extra batts and a 32 gig card on it. Love that phone!!!

I switched for 2 weeks and I'm really enjoying it !! I loved my HD2 and I will miss it (the SD card slot...) but I think that this One S can be a good successor.
I switched from hd2 to the one s about two weeks ago. I mainly upgradeed for the camera and the awesome battery life. As much as I love the hd2 the one s is a nice upgrade. I do miss the larger storage space of the sd card, but I don't miss the random data drops and having to reboot one in a wile. But I'm still keeping it for back up. I'm happy with the upgread.
Sent from my HTC One S
I switched last week. I realised I needed a new phone when I had problems with corrupted blocks. I am a bit disappointed by the "iPhonisation" of HTC (no microSD card and the use of microSIM).
I missed my old HD2 for a while (doesn't it still work?), but my SIM card is disabled, so my HD2 is not longer a chance. Development was almost frozen for months, with minor improvements and no fix for video recordin lag.
I miss superuser, and custom ROMs with S-off, but having a real ICS stock ROM, I think I can be patient.
Developers did a great work, but my HD2 deserves a rest. My son will use it just to google and play. I think it won't admit one flashing more.
I switched because my mother get an new one S an can't handle it.
She was missing Hard buttons to answer a call an so on..
so i gave her my beloved HD2 with the incredible HyperDroid6.
i'm such a goooood son
