Phone dropped, screen dead... Options? - Motorola Atrix 2

Hey guys, the GF left her phone up high and was knocked down and now the screen seems to be dead. Lights up for a moment when turning on then just goes dark. Pretty sure it's operating fine underneath (still need to plug in to computer to check for connectivity), but assuming just the screen needs to be replaced, what are my options?
Is that something I could possibly replace or perhaps send it off to somebody on this forum for repair? How much ($) are we looking to fix? Better to just sell on ebay?
Thanks!

I did a quick search on ebay concerning a new LCD for the Atrix 2 and they seem to cost around 80 bucks... I don't know if that would be a worthy investment since depending on your contract you can maybe get a new one for about that price...
What I can tell you from personal experience is that it is most likely to be a major pain in the ass to replace the screen on your own... I once changed the front frame of my HTC Desire and I basically had to disassemble EVERYTHING including unglue-ing the touchpanel from the frame taking out all sorts of boards and stuff, and I never got rid of the little dust that would get between digitizer and LCD..... (the memories )
But I'd say if you're confident in your technical skills and a new LCD would be worth your money then you might consider going for it...
I don't know but I'd estimate the cost of a professional repair around $150-$200...
One tip just in case: Make sure that no dust gets onto your screen/on the inside of your tuchpanel because once you start "cleaning" it off (with a towel) you'll never get it as clean as it was...

[Q] Fix Or Sell?

I got my wife a used LG Quantum off of eBay because she wants to switch from BlackBerry. I got a new OEM battery and battery cover so it looks pretty new. The problem is, the touch screen does not work. My question is, should I just re-sell it on ebay to get my money back (I bought it for $51), or should I spend the $35 on a new touch screen digitizer and fix it myself?
I guess it depends on your skill set. Personally for $51 for a Non-Contract phone, you can't beat the price even after spending an extra $35 to get a mint phone.
If you can handle the tiny screws and ribbon cables, it can be tricky with lots of tiny parts, then go for it.
I'm pretty handy when it comes to PCs and general tech stuff, I replaced a digitizer on a HTC Touch Pro for the hell of it. It took me about 2 and 1/2 hours. That was with laying everything out on a clean table, and taking digital pictures along the way, incase of any questions when putting it back together.
Good luck if you decide to take it on.

I'd say I'm pretty handy, I've just never worked with anything that delicate. I figured I have nothing to lose since she still has her BlackBerry so there's no pressure.
I looked up videos on it and it seems to not be that hard. If replacing the digitizer on the TP wasn't that hard, just time consuming, then the Quantum seems like it should be even easier.
Thanks for your input. I think I'll go for it.
please take picture EVERY part you dismantle so that you won't miss a step.
Just my 2 cents.

Excellent point. I do have a tendency to forget what I just did 2 seconds ago and what everything looked like before I started.
Just a quick update. I received a brand new OEM digitizer today and replaced it with the non-responsive one on the phone. It was extremely easy and took me around 20 to 25 minutes.
Thanks for your suggestions guys.

[Q] Anyone got a MT4GS (may be bricked) for sale?

Hi!
I was heartbroken when my MT4GS broke recently. I need a replacement screen assembly for it. I've been looking on ebay, but I only see phones with broken screens or individual service parts. I have a working motherboard but, I need the entire screen assembly replaced.
If anyone has a bricked (or fully working) MT4GS with an otherwise nice looking (and working) screen that's just lying around collecting dust that they would be willing to sell cheap, I would be very happy. I should mention I live in Europe. I'll cover any fees, obviously.
Alternatively, does anyone know of a worthy successor (GSM Android QWERTY slider)?
Thanks.
You should try ebay. there are all sorts of spare parts for this phone and you can get just the part you need without having to buy an entire phone. At least that way you will spend less and not end up with parts you do not need.
very true, this happens to be one of the more pain in the ass phones to fix but it still isnt all to bad. a new digitizer (and very likely will need a new lcd as near impossible to separate) will be in the range of 50$ if you need more than this other parts arent too expensive and not terrible to replace.
as a successor... there really isnt one, closet upgrade with a qwerty is the galaxy relay, others may disagree but between the vision and the doubleshot i am hard pressed to find a true high quality qwerty phone

I've never had any trouble getting my LCD out. Though my phone had been opened before, so the sticky wasn't as well stuck to the backside of the LCD. You can use a bit of hairdryer heat to loosen the adhesive.
Now digitizers... Those I seem to burn through.
Well, I suspected that the cable connecting the screen to the motherboard had become damaged, due to the touch function and screen dying when sliding the phone open. I did order a spare part on ebay but in trying to seperate it from the LCD, I ended up making it worse. I did use a hairdryer to warm up the adhesive, alas, it seems I wasn't careful enough. The end result is that I now have a "bottom" part (keyboard, motherboard, etc.) which is (presumably) still undamaged, but I need an entirely new screen assembly.

[Q] Black Screen after getting "hit/banged" by my youngest...

I've been a member for quite a while, but don't think I've ever posted so please take it easy on me . I bought my husband a MyTouch 4g Slide and liked it, so I bought myself one (both used from Ebay). With my husbands, we had the black screen occasionally. I did some research and with a quick fix of the cover blocking something and switching it around - :victory:**** all set.
Mine (still running original software was running fine. Well, my youngest of 5 kids was apparently playing a game and got frustrated because it kept freezing or something and hit or banged the screen from what he told me -----
Anyway, when he gave me the phone it was this kind of white/reddish fuzzy looking color. I turned it off and tried to reboot. (yes, I've pulled the battery) and aside from the tiny little red light (LED) or the small green one in the same corner OCCASIONALLY coming on and an occasional vibration at that time - NOTHING, NADA, ZILCH....
On the good side, I didn't totally lose it and start screeming at him .... on the bad side, I have a phone I just bought (and like) and can't use it. I know that it might be a just toss and rebuy, but before I do, is there something we can replace (digitalizer/screen/etc)??
You guys up here are amazing and it's the first place I think to come for any of the phones we've had (HTC, MyTouch, SideKick) and I'm so thankful for the site. I figured if I was going to get right to the point and get a straight up answer, without getting scammed, this is the place.... sooooo, anything is better than nothing! Thanks!
Hello. Sounds to me like the LCD screen blew out. They blow out easily from being banged around pretty hard, especially on this particular phone. If the light turns on, then the phone is still alive. If it vibrates as well, then it's definitely still good, as the system is obviously still running. You should try replacing the LCD screen. If you've never done this type of thing, then I'll tell you this... it won't be very easy at all. HTC put so much damn adhesive all over this phone, it's ridiculous. They even glued the LCD to the digitizer, & really tight too.
If you try to do it yourself, or have someone do it for you, be very careful. You can get screens for cheap on ebay, but it may be troublesome to get it done. It's also hard to put them together while preventing dust from getting in there as well. Lint-free micro fiber rags, & maybe a hand air pump, will be very helpful to have around. You can see disassembly videos & tutorials online, like from repairsuniverse.

Thanks so much!! My husband and son "TINKER" with things like this....mostly bigger stuff like cars and all ... LOL... but lately a little bit with our laptops/psp type stuff. However, if I could find someone who does this a lot and it wasn't too expensive, that would probably be easier, especially with all the kids around here . Any idea where I could search for a reputable person (ebay, etc???). Also, when you say LCD, that would be like the ones I've seen on ebay that say LCD with digitalizer....right?? I really appreciate the info. I was hoping it might be something like that, something at least "possible". You rock. I'll let you know how it turns out.
it is a pain! and yeah it does sound like the lcd needs to be changed out, careful now because there are multiple lcds that htc used and they arent compatible, i would suggest opening it up first and then seeing which one to order
HERE IS SOME INSIGHT if you look to the third page or so you can see my experience with this phone. if you have someone who likes to tinker give them the project, as much of a pain as it is... its not too bad still i will suggest having them do a little research first though
good luck!

To have someone do it, I think it'd probably be best to search locally for a repair shop. If you live anywhere near a big city, they probably have some cell phone repair shops around that would be able to do it for you. Even check craigslist.
As for the screen itself, there are 2 parts. There is the LCD screen, or the actual TV screen itself, & there is a sheet of glass placed on top of it. That sheet of glass is called the digitizer. It is what senses your touch. The manufacturers seems to love gluing them together nowadays. Not like the myTouch 3G Slide which was not glued together & was so easy to take apart & deal with. But yeah, the LCD is the actual TV screen. That's what you likely need to change.

Cracked Screen

Hey everyone,
It's been a while since I last posted on here, and in attempting to avoid a pessimistic undertone, the G7 Power is actually a really good phone: the battery really does last for ages (I charge it once every two days, and it has never been below 40%), and it is surprisingly loud (everywhere). I am a pretty casual user now, rarely playing games or other media, but I am impressed with the difference compared to upgrading from a Moto G4. Some apps which appear as though they were designed for more premium screens - logos, icons, widgets - definitely lose some fidelity around the edges and these can look a bit poor on the 720p screen, but I have become oblivious (or distracted from) a lot of the finer details already.
And now the question: where, and how, would I be able to repair a cracked screen?
It feels like a pretty silly question; but the screen has 'developed' a crack from the bottom-right corner of the new notch, to about 2cm underneath the power button.
I say develop, as the phone is always within eyesight or kept in a pocket. It has never been dropped onto a surface harder than a pillow, and the case/screen protectors are still yet to arrive. It has been in my possession for about 12 days, and it lasted for 6/7 of those. I still have no clue when or why the crack appeared.
The question is a combination of where/when/how, I have contacted Motorola Technical Support, and explained the situation leading up to the cracked screen. The response was (exactly): "we do not process repair of the screen, what we offer is replacement of the whole device", they also said that this service will cost a fee (shipping + device) depending on the IMEI information. A single crack on the screen resulting in the replacement of a whole device seems pretty excessive, and the support member did not acknowledge that it is a brand new phone, or that it is* under warranty.
This is the first cracked screen from all previous handsets, so I am not sure what to do: is there any way to avoid replacing the whole device? How does this effect any warranty? What if I/whomever repairs the device creates other issues? When would services and replacement parts become available? XDA always has a someone whom is knowledgeable in these areas, and it would be great to hear some helpful advice from the community on how to proceed,
Thanks all,
MrSpuddy
(Also - the phone was bought directly from the Lenovo website - and I was hopeful that the "one free screen replacement" still worked)

Please see the teardown video here: https://forums.androidcentral.com/m...-power-xt1955-disassembly-teardown-video.html
I repair a lot of phones as a hobby. And phone that are assembled front to back are hard as hell to fix. You have to remove pretty much everything to get to the screen. Contrast that with something like the Pixel phone where the screen is connected last. You just have to pry up the screen and unplug the cable. Fixing the screen on the Moto G7 may not be worth it.
My recommendation is to use your phone as long as you can and then buy a new one. Hopefully by then it will not be as expensive as it is now. I know, it is not much of a solution...

The solution provided by the company was just to buy a new phone; which was not very helpful at all. My collection of screen protectors arrived, and the one on the phone is a lot more robust than the original screen.
Thank you for providing the video.
These screens are very easy to replace... Multiple times...
I have the moto g7 and I have replaced the screen four times, and I'm getting another screen in the mail this weekend, because this *[email protected]_-HJN' SUCKS DONKEY WHATEVER. I like the phone, but for some reason, the screen doesn't like to stay in one piece. All you need is a hair dryer and a new screen. Amazon has them. But you have to watch out; there are counterfeits out there. Buy from two different vendors, and return the counterfeit. Here's how to tell: make sure the printing on the ribbon cable is the same as the one you're replacing. Make sure that the printing on the back plate is the same as the original. You won't know until you take the screen off, which replacement is legit. But it's just one connector and some glue. Way easy, or mail it to me and I'll fix it.

Screen and Frame Replacement Recommendations / OEM Repair Thoughts

So a few weeks ago I was an idiot and crushed my OnePlus 8 in my trunk. I realized while I was closing it what was happening, so I was able to keep it from closing all the way and, surprisingly, the phone still works. Parts of the screen sometimes work and I was able to get a remote screen pulled up using adb and scrcpy. The phone still runs fine, cameras work, speakers work, battery life seems fine, etc. The big problem is that not only is the screen broken, it seems that I bent the frame a little too.
I don't have money to buy a brand new phone and I don't have any warranty so I'm in a position of needing to repair what I have. Does anyone have any suggestions for where I can get a new screen? Ideally I'd also like to buy a new frame so I don't have to try and bend my existing frame flat; I think it might break or the screen may not sit right if I don't do it perfectly. I've looked at a couple of places like Witrigs who actually sells a frame and screen assembly together, but I've read some bad stuff about them online and am afraid to go through with a purchase.
Also, I've noticed that OnePlus reduced the pricing on their in-house repair options recently so now it looks like it would be $160 + a $30 service charge so this might actually be the best option. I'm afraid though that once they get it they might have to replace the frame too and might charge a ton more or even decide to replace other components that aren't necessary.
The frame if distorted is probably toast. It's easier to replace both if they come as a unit.
If the service center it using OEM parts... go for it.
If you do it yourself follow full ESD protocols. The separate assemblies are very susceptible to ESD damage once out of circuit.

It depends on where you live. If you are from the USA, I recommend iFixScreens. They Provide free diagnosis of your phone, give you estimate charges, and provide 180 days warranty.
