Huawei...I didn't even know how to spell the name a month ago and I thought that Huawei phones were all about being cheap and crappy. And then BANG!MWC happened and Huawei was there with a quad-core phone with specs that match the top offerings by brands well-positioned in the industry, like HTC and LG.And I was like "WTF?".
Does anyone else feel the same?Depending on the price,I might be getting an Ascend D Quad, just to see how it fares(I have some stuff to sell ).Maybe we are looking at a big surprise?Share your opinions!
Here in Memphis they're notorious for cheap phones, but people love them. Otter boxes stay sold out.

That's what I'm saying here.It could possibly be the best offering around for the foreseeable, but how can we know?I'd expect it from Samsung or HTC,maybe even Sony and LG,but Huawei? They took us all by surprise.

$150 for a phone with no contract. Build quality is the same as a old HTC Hero, same specs too. They have 1ghz models as well.
The launcher they use is pretty cool.
They run the same apps as me, so my friends aren't complaining.

Want to hear more details about the SoC that they built.
The part about it being related in some way to a 64 bit architecture interests me very much. Also wanna know the gpu used, Oh do I hope it's a sgx 544.

I do hope Huawei becomes the first guys to start driving the high-end price down. Everyone's pretty much been charging in a similar ballpark as iPhone, and Android can stand to gain much more traction offering comparable competition at $400, for example. I don't really doubt the Windows Phones would follow suit (though who knows about Apple; I can see them trying to continue and being turned into a dinosaur like in that same old story) and in the end, the consumers win.
After all, the truth is we probably have more features than we need anyway atm (though it pains me to say it, what with my rooting for waterproofing and Ubuntu for Android) and maybe it's time for a cost-cutting phase of the development cycle. Reduced increase of features combined with a greater reduction of price.
Course, whether or not this ends up happening is all Huawei's show. They've been getting a lot of publicity as the guy who's starting to make legit high-end phones, and it's all up to them to usher in this kind of paradigm. (The other manufacturers certainly won't.)

Yep,these are my thoughts.Samsung or HTC or any of the others don't see the need to reduce prices. Why would they after all?BUT,if someone put pressure on them, things might change. For the time being,500-600€ are too much for, say,a student.
I am really impressed with the Ascend D Quad. Depending on the price, it can really compete with top Android OEMs. Btw, does Huawei have their own UI on top of the android os?

How reliable is your source for this; this would be awesome! Not only are the UI's starting to be seen as bloatware, but they would be able to release updates probably much sooner than their competitors. Price and market it right, ride the free publicity they've been getting, and Huawei could very well become the next Android standard bearer.
More competition is always welcome. I only hope they'll manage to deliver good quality for a low price. Ascend P1 S looks promising too.

I've never been an Apple 'fan boy', and the only Apple hardware I ever owned was iPhone 4. I bought it in October 2010 because at that time it had the best display on the market (retina). I've always been a big Google fan and always preferred their products (Chrome, Maps, Drive, etc.). A month ago I ported my phone number to a new carrier (Wind Mobile, Canada) with inexpensive unlimited plans. Wind's frequencies (AWS) are not supported by iPhone yet, so I had to buy a new Android phone (Galaxy Nexus). I was really excited to get Android as my experience with Google was excellent so far. I was very happy with iPhone 4 and iOS, and expected Android to be as good if not better than iOS. I rooted my Android right away and installed 4.1.1. Now I'm gonna share my observations:
Hardware: Galaxy Nexus looks and feels really cheap (like kid's toy): plastic is probably the cheapest Samsung was able to find. Touch screen sensitivity is as bad as it gets - often you have to tap 2-3 times to make it work. Hardly any competition to iPhone 4.
Software: buggy and underdeveloped. I can't believe Google actually seriously markets Android which looks and feels like beta version which requires lots of testing before final release. Some bugs are so outrageous, that I doubt if Google bothered to hire QA team at all: for example when I try so send SMS and use my phone book to enter a recipient's phone number, SMS fails cause a phone number entered is missing area code somehow. What the hell? I think it's a bit over the top. Same apps on Android are not as functional, 'nice' and 'smooth' as on iOS. It looks like Android has lots of potential, but now is still in early stages of development. iOS is by far superior in any aspect at the moment: practically bug free and very user friendly.
Verdict: there are rumours that iPhone 5 will support AWS frequencies - if that's the case, I'm gonna dump Android without any regrets. What a shame, Google!
0/10 really bad failtroll. Try harder, make your story more believable and add in some buzzwords for good measure. This hurts to watch. Back in my day, trolling used to mean something.

Funny though you rooted it immediately and flashed a Rom onto your device which you said was 4.1.1 then you proceeded to ***** about the software which apparently wasn't stock Android we have no clue how you screwed up your own device in rooting your phone. Nice try though "Apple fan boy".

IMO,
Sony makes the best phones as build quality but they're not updating their phones at all, or really late, and they don't put the latest hardware in their phones. (yes other brands usually suck at build quality)
and there is nothing wrong with the Android software,
If Sony makes a Nexus device, that will be the best and the sexiest device out there.

Well you are running a custom Rom, of course it will be buggy... And unlike iOS that has been the exact same for how many years, android is a developing platform. It has been completely revamped in the last few years.
The custom rom is causing all of your troubles. I have had 3 android phones and I've never had a problem on stock firmware. My rooted Desire died when I clocked it to 2.5Ghz in freezer (motherboard failure), which was MY FAULT. My One V never failed on me and my G1 was live last time I looked at it.
As with build quality - you are blaming the OS? Samsung is plastic galore, why did you pick a galaxy nexus if you want a metal and glass machine? My phone is excellent build quality, cost me 280$ CAD with no contract, it is a middle of the range device - yet it is still an aluminum unibody, and I'm overclocking at 1.5Ghz.
Get a stock android device not made by Samsung and you've got your next iPhone.

If you look at Android then and now, you will see how much it has changed.
If you look at iOS then and now, you see that nothing has changed. They don't want to add more features which is why it seems so bug free.
Kinda like Olympic gymnastics, you have a higher potential score if you plan on doing more complex moves, but also a bigger chance of making a mistake. But if you choose simple, your potential score is low but you probably won't get many deductions. And guess what? Android is the more complex gymnast that will continue to learn more moves. When it makes a mistake, it trains via an update to fix it.

Quad-Core, large screen (+ high resolution), Add-on Micro SD-Card slot, looks like removable battery as well, so can upgrade to the 3000mAh one for longer life.
There has to be a catch somewhere ...

Hate to say it but this phone will not get a big following anywhere outside of china for many reasons. Some being that these types of china knock offs tend not to have the hardware that is advertised, no real warranty outside of china, and normally don't run official android builds, nor have access to the market due to Google and china issues.

Well china does have copyright laws. It's either just not enforced at all or it favors companies in the country.
Also as a reply to your previous post, this company is supported by Qualcomm directly (or at least so I read on Engadget). And since it is running MIUI, it also has full access to the Play Store and will get updates since it just updates whenever MIUI gets updated. Warranty probably won't work but I tend to try to not damage my products and keep them safe. If there are manufacturing issues, well that's my fault for not researching the product more before I bought it.
Sent from my Incredible S using Tapatalk 2
Just because it has MIUI (which is not something I would brag about lol) doesn't mean it will have the market. If it looks good to you then by all means give it a shot. Good luck just don't expect it to find a home here.

*sigh, you definitely haven't used MIUI, or any product by Xiaomi. They are TRUSTED. Go ask those who uses the Mi-One, they are the most satisfied bunch of all smartphone Enthusiasts. Why? They don't get updates not every six months, but every Friday! And trust me, they DID NOT make up the hardware specs. Its either that you're racists towards Chinese companies, or just a unlucky customer who bought a fake product.

First off I am not racist to anything at all. I give everyone a fair shake. As for MIUI your right I have never used it and never will. I don't support what they did.
As for the hardware specs I am not aging they made them up. Just stating what many have seen with buying knock off devices. If this device hardware is legit cool and I am sure people will be happy with it.

All the hardware of the Xiaomi MI-2 is surprising, especially for the 1999 Yuan chinese price...
For sure, the lack of a memory card slot is annoying, but it is the choice of Google too, inside all the Nexus models.
Now if people could write an authentic JB ROM in order to replace the miui "iOS like" ROM, and if the international price could be really low, I would be inclined to replace my Nexus

Never heard of them, quickly glanced at a couple and they seem to be 2-3 year old technology. Plus being they are trying to mimic popular phones I will also assume build quality is as cheap as the price hints at.
Granted I know nothing about these phones so take my opinion with a grain of salt... but I have almost always had less the good experiences with knock off brands from over seas

They're not cheap for what they are, cheap. If you buy one, you must have the mindset of a professional gambler, that the odds are in favour of the "House", and be prepared to lose everything.
They're not that cheap. You'd do better buying something off Craigslist.
But I did buy my son a Chinese knockoff of a Blackberry, dual SIM, any gsm radio standard in the civilized world, off ebay for $25. Seems pretty robust, nice display, music player, fm radio, works on any gsm mvno. Now that's good value.

Honestly, yes as everybody has mentioned, these seem to be knockoffs of other phones ( such as a the sgs3) and the hardware maybe a little bit behind, but they're cheap and you'll get what you paid for. I've read the reviews and almost all of them have a positive feedback, saying they love it, it's fast, fast shipping blahblahblah.
In the end, its all up to you, if you're looking for a cheap phone that will give you a bang for your buck.
Keep in mind that since it's not big time developers nor manufacturers, don't expect huge support.
As an added note to before, the few android knock off devices I've owned have been easy to root but you need to make your own changes to the kernel/ROM if you want too much more than is there already in android. But there are many auto scripts nowadays that allow you to much of this easy.
Don't expect too much quality hardware wise but for the most part android I'd android and if you're willing o chance it you maybe OK. Up until I got my nexus 7 I used one of a few of the knock off tablets I bought. One of them was real nice for the price, the other three I had to sell on eBay rather quickly as they were subpar

Nexus 7 by a billion gazillion miles. 1080p screen, serviceable dual cameras, immediate updates, quad core GPU, stereo speakers.
Or maybe the N10? The new one isn't here yet, so you should prolly wait a little.
Currently, nobody can beat Apple at tablets, though. Just my opinion. Seems there are more apps that are optimized for the large screen.

For $230, you can't expect something like that to be future-proofed. What you could do is sell your old device in an emerging market, where the demand is high and supply low, and use that extra cash to upgrade frequently. But the N7 def has more to it than just the hardware. It is as close as you can get to the stock experience, so there is very little lag. And there is longer support by Google. It gets a lot of dev attention. It is also very cheap.
Seriously, if you want a good deal, the N7 is the way to go.

however i was in china atm, so i probably could of chosen better, but in china that was an amazing deal.

Price at £500, get x sales
Price at £300, get 2x sales + recognition as a reasonably pricing company, with a quality product, and a lot more factors.
It's business. That's why.
Why post this question? This is another useless thread.
Honestly the nexus 5's quality is on par with some of the higher end smartphones available right now. Admittingly the speakers and camera are not the best, but other than that it's a good phone. There's really no reason for most companies to jack up the price of their phones to $500-600. Just because it costs that much doesn't mean it's quality. If you look at how much it costs to build a nexus phone, vs a leading high end smartphone, you'll see there's not a lot of difference.
They want to put this phone in as many hands as they can. What do you think they make all that money from?
What do you mean? Google is barely charging a mark up. That's why its cheap. Not because they're using. Cheap parts

its not useless, i just want to see what other people think. if you disagree, then tell me why you prefer just the cheap version.
Thanks.

I think you're the only one here who believes this phone is cheap. Again as stated before, Google does not mark up their devices very much, thus creating a more affordable price. Samsung, HTC, Apple, everyone else will mark theirs up a lot more, but they also do this to pay the middle man (warehouses, retail stores, etc). Google sells their own hardware on their own website, so they're cutting out a lot of the middle men, thus keeping prices down.

i guess my expectations where just very high, and all we got was a mediocre phone that competes with early this year devices, gs4 and htc one etc...
Seems like people are really stuck on stats and fluff.
So if the N5 had aluminum, would that make it "premium"?
Does it need a 42MP camera, with 3.5GHz 8 core CPU, 4GB RAM, 4K display and 128GB ROM?
Why not make a smart phone that is truly smart, doesn't need bleeding edge stats to run AND be affordable. Oh, that's right Google has already done that with the Moto X and now N5.

You have had 15 phones in the past 39 months (a phone change every 2.6 months). I don't see why this is a big deal for you. If they did make a 'better phone' there would be an even better one released a couple months later. They are building a brand...normal people are starting to understand what a Nexus device is (and most can afford one). To put a whole new chipset in a phone requires substantially more money and carries more chances of bugs. Google is starting to influence hardware chip designs with Android's features and I am sure they have a plan to release a feature complete phone that is better than everything else in due time.
Stop complaining and enjoy your new toy.
Then the OEMS have no reason to complete other than custom skins. Like Microsoft and windows 8 tablet and phones

Sell it and buy yourself an Iphone 5S, you haven't tried that yet. Maybe that will satisfy your high expectations. :fingers-crossed:

The Nexus `s are meant to serve as an example and showcase for other oem`s regarding how software should be like. That aside the Nexus 5 hardware is very very good compared to the price you pay
Can't wait till all the love or hate threads die down.
