[Q] Goophone 4GS Unable to ROOT! - General Questions and Answers

G'Day All
Just recently I purchased a Goophone 4GS, simply a Chinese knock off of an Iphone, but I must say a very good one at that indeed. The phone is very nice and I like it a lot but came with all these Chinese apps installed that make it not only difficult but frustrating to use. The simplest solution is to root the the phone and install the apps I want and in English as well.
Before everyone starts pointing me to this thread and that post, I have spent every night for the past week searching and reading every bit of information on trying to root this phone to no avail whatsoever. Root Rec 3.2 does not work, permission denied, superoneclick either hangs or or comes back with the same.
Z4Root does nothing, Gingerbreak just hangs, Anyandroot says wrong version.
More searching even going to translating the Chinese forum made no difference to the outcome, following their procedure, and all the others nothing seems to work
I have downloaded a rom That I would like to use but I need the phone rooted first, I even tried to install the rom, using the initial setup (surprisingly) in English but keeps telling me new rom no E signature process aborted.
Now I'm new to this game but willing to learn, and have come a long way in a week, so If I ask stupid questions please remember I'm still a NOOB.
If anyone can suggest a procedure, or try this or that please help, Speak up and save my sanity, before end up rooting the phone in a different way.
Thanks

I believe the version is a heavily modded version of 2.2 Froyo OR 2.3 Gingerbread.

An Update I tried a few more packages tonight, CF-Root, and 234root.zip.
CF didn't do a thing, 234 I could not open, non signature error, So I even tried installing 3e refectory installer, but all failed.
Desperate for ideas now, even tried renaming the new rom as backup file to fool the system but no work.
Desperayte for answeres Please!
Thanks

Hi All
Just so I put an end to this thread for others with the same problems the solution is.
The phone is set with an IOS operating system and when you go to root the phone the programme cannot find the correct version. So solution is.
Go to rom.gooapple.com and download an earlier version of the rom . I used 12.02.13.zip and worked.
When you enter the site do not use translator, find the rom and press on it, will redirect you to another site 115 Chinese . Under the picture there are 4 buttons press the white one and download should start.
Once downloaded install it to your SD card go to setup and update from SD, the new rom will then be installed on the phone. Then use the Chinese Root-Rec and it should root. I even checked it with superoneclick and it worked.
So when you check your version on the phone if its running IOS XXXXX then you need to change it to android.
Good Luck.
Thanks to those who assisted me, and I hope I can assist someone else.

Got Viewsonic G need help with apps

Went to the built in app market and downloaded the kindle app, it WILL NOT WORK everytime I tell it to register its says "not connected to internet" when it most definitely is.
I only need Kindle ( or any eReader i guess ) and a comic reader that works, any advice?
The information is so scattered on how to rom, root, and what not so I am hesitant to try that ( plus dont have extra microsd right now ).
any help would be appreciated.

1) If still using stock firmware then download TnT-Lite Ver. 2.2.0 here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=842004
2) Fix market: - Google Marketplace has been added. It is crippled by default, but it's fixable with this hack: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=845175.
3) Add Flash: Flash works, but you need to sideload the correct apk. (Update for 12/2) You can get a new version here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...6&postcount=26. And yes, Angry Birds works.
All 3 steps are copy/paste from Roebeet's post in step#1.
Hope this help.

You actually don't need an external microsd card to root, install ROMs or anything. I haven't used one yet. You just need the USB cable that came with the tablet, and there's a built-in internal SD-card storage area in the G Tablet.
As Ricky's reply suggests, most people here are using TNTLite or ZPad. VEGAn ROM is also almost totally stable now (and I'm not sure how CyanogenMod is coming along). We almost all exclusively use these ROMs because they work much better than stock, and because we have access to the full Android market with them.
I highly recommend following one of the Howto threads that explain installing ClockworkMod, then TNTLite, then doing the Market Fix.
If you don't want to do that and you still want to stick with stock, there are several threads on rooting with Z4Root, then getting Android Market working on stock. Some people are more comfortable with that than installing one of the custom ROMs, but I think you're missing out on a lot of great possibilities that way.
Here's the thread I think Ricky was referring to, by the way: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=865245
I suspect this might be sacrilige for this forum but I got so frustrated after calling ViewSonic I decided to put a custom rom on ( before i seen your replies ) the first how to i found was droidpirates tnt no clockwork version and android market fix. If thats competing sites I want to apologize.
I want to thank everyone who develops and the community that helps support these devices. This Pad was absolutely worthless to my wife before flashing with custom rom. NO app that required an internet connection would function properly Viewsonic said its the app funny changed firmware and they worked instantly.
Im getting some forced close errors but honestly the pad is so responsive and have access to the full android market, we also got it on the Sears $350 deal and we are very happy so far. Its a shame they manufacturers rush out this hardware with close to unusable software.
What does the clockword mod do?

Clockwork Mod is a recovery system. It allows you to much more easily flash new ROMs, to switch between different ROMs, and to backup and restore your system in case anything goes wrong.
You get to it by pressing and holding the Vol + key while booting up your tablet (you need to install it first of course - see the HOWTO thread in the G Tablet Android Development forum for detailed instructions).
If you don't have Clockwork Mod installed and something goes wrong flashing a ROM, or your partitions get screwed up (which happened once to me), it's a lot more of a pain in the butt to restore your system back to a working state (you have to use a tool called NVFlash from your desktop).
As a result, mostly everybody on the forums here uses Clockwork Mod and recommends to new users that they install it too.
thanks for the info its most appreciated. I guess when viewsonic releases the update on the 19th there will be new roms based on it so i probably should get it installed and not push my luck. I didnt even us an SD card to flash this rom.

Hi folks. I need to change my sig. My Korean SGS was destroyed and ended up with a korean Motoroi xt720 for cheap. I am in Korea. I can read a few computer terms and for anything else have easy access to people who can read more.
Anyway, I made it through the upgrade process. However, it didn't give me a rom file, rather it actually flashed the phone from the web page. There's a chance I can find the rom file somewhere on my hard drive.
I had to do it twice. The first time it seemed like it was installing some upgrade manager tool (but I was clicking ok pretty fast). There was a yes or no question that I didn't bother to try to translate any further even if I could. Yes allowed the continue button to pup up.. but then the computer rebooted. I did it again though and the second time after hitting the big orange button.. it rebooted the phone and flashed it.
Let me know if I can help with something, and let me know if you know of any big things to watch out for if I'm taking advice from the U.S/EU threads. Obviously, not using those ROMS is the main one.
By the way, rooting by adb with rageagainst the cage worked fine for me as expected.
update: so I checked the ahrd drive. The file isn't there. With a somewhat similar samsung process I sometimes had to kill the program just before it flashed, then I could find the file. Unfortunately, it won't do it again, because it detects that I'm already upgraded. Of course I can just tar up my /system directory.

Can you post your kernel version and configuration strings (S/W version etc)?
model XT720 (but korean one of course)
S/W version STSKT_N_79.33.50R
android version 2.2.1
kernel version 2.6.29-omap1
Did I miss anything?
I am capable of extracting and probably unpacking a kernel image, assuming it doesn't go too differently than for the Samsung. I would want hints on what block device to get it from though.
Another possibility is flashing back to an older rom, and trying to upgrade again, but I'd need to find an older rom. I wrote down my original ROM version somewhere, so I can try to search for it.
I'd actually like to have this too, because it's nice if I mess something up or need A/S, to have a clean ROM to fall back to.

[Q] Tablet PC Duke root

Is there a way to root this tablet ?
http://www.ekoore.com/web/en/product/tablet-2/duke-2/overview-4.html
the same as
http://www.plaisio.gr/Laptop-and-Tablet/Notebook/Tablets-iPAD/Turbo-X-Tablet-Hive-DUKE.htm
Anyone ??!?!??!
You could just try some of the popular methods.
Yeap! I would like to know as well! I have the same tablet.
The OEM firmware name says DUKE_FW_07312
Which is the most common way to root an unknown android phone or tablet?
I know how to root my DHD or any other known mobile device (HTC Desire or Samsung Galaxy S).
But how about an unknown device?
Please some help?
Anyone please help! I don't know how to proceed...
Root method for Duke
NOTE please press the thanks button if you use this source as it is only fair to thank the people who put the effort into helping you. This is a new tablet and it took days not hours to collect and test this. Please press Thanks!
Hi I have had a Duke in Asia for about 6 months fully rooted running 3.2, so it is possible. I have attached all files and instructions in a word document to allow this to happen, but it is as always at your own risk.
Thanks to Krtonsrx8 who supplied the boot image from "Tablet PC Duke" from Europe I have updated the install files to make the installation simpler for the Europeans. I have also modded the boot file from Europe so now there are separate processes for the Asian "Prolink TA8 Tablet" (mine) and the Europe tablet mentioned in this discussion.

Than you very much for your help!
I have followed your instructions but I have stuck sfter step "1 Enable ADB.bat"...
I press reset but the tablet does not go into Honeycomb. It just remains black.
And if I run step "3 reset original boot – non ADB” nothing happens as well...
The Tablet does not return to normal nor boots normal...
How do I do a full restore if I need to?
Hi, Have you copued part-7.img across as mentioned in the document to the root directory. If not then please do this and then run 3 reset original boot – non ADB.
Please note you cannot run 3 - .... unless your tablet is in recovery mode. You can check this by going into the Device Manager and note the device with APX. If it is not there then you are not in recovery mode. Hold the recovery button and on button for 3 seconds. Alternatively hold both the reset and recovery for around 10 seconds and it should do the same. Once the APX driver is showing, run the 3 reset ...bat again.
Would you send me a copy of the pert-7.img and I can mod it in Ubuntu and send back to you. This is how the mod works it is a simple flag to allow ADB to run in 1 file.
I ROOTed it! YES!!!
First of all I want to thank you very much for your help!!!
I found out what was going wrong to the step "1 Enable ADB.bat"!!!!
I had to copy 3 files from MY backup folder! “Backup.bct”, “bootloader.img” and “part-7.img”
When I copied these file step 3 worked like a charm and my tablet booted back to normal!
So I thought! Hey! Why not to follow the 1st and 2nd steps again??? And I did!
So now with your help I am a happier owner of the above tablet!!!
Thank you very much again!
Congratulation
No Proplem, It took me about 2 weeks to sort out exactly what to do. If you need to use ADB, you can now do it with Root explorer and edit default.prop in the root directory to enable it.
Would you mind pushing the "Thanks Meter" as I am new to this forum
Also do you have the GSM version of the tablet, if so would you mind uploading the part 2 to part 11 for me. I have the wifi but plan to strip down and install the gsm card, but I need the software.
I had ADB already!
But of course I did not have root access!
And with the latest version of ADB for windows from the Android SDK I can see my device without any problem from windows!!! With the older versions I had "No device found"...
Thax again for your help!
No Problem, Would you please press the "Thanks button" and also do you have the GSM version?
Yes I have the GSM version.
Now that I have rooted do you know where I can find custom roms, kernels, recovery menus for my tablet?
Which tablets are compatible with mine?
Hi That I cannot answer as I only did it to get rid of the advertisements.
Now you are rooted and you have the backup you have the ability to open and manipulate the backups with tools like the attached. But it has to be done in Linux
I have helped you a load, the instructions and information drivers etc took a long time to compile, and I was really hoping that you would return the favour. I have asked several times your version, is it GSM as I am really after a GSM version I can use on my tablet. Can you help?
Of course I will return the favour!
I already have answered to your question about the GSM version.
I have the GSM version.
Unfortunaly the GSM part of the tablet is disabled...
My tablet has the SIM socket but the company that imports this tablet to Greece has the mobile part disabled!
Can I enable it???
To be honest I dont know. my tablet also has the gsm card reader and if it is disabled I would suspect that the unit does not have the gsm module card installed inside, it sounds like you have a wifi unit only like mine. To date in Asia there has not been a working GSM version released, lets see if one is actually released in Europe.
Sorry about not reading the text properly, will have my eyes checked. I am pleased the steps work on the Euro version as well as your firmware is a slightly different number.

[Q] Ployer Momo8 Tablet

hi all. i just purchased a Ployer Momo8 tablet and it came with Android 4.0 and ICS. i really like the tablet, especially for the extremely low price of $150. my question is, does anyone know of any custom ROMS for this tablet, because it needs serious optimization. especially considering that i have an rooted EVO running a Team Nocturnal ROM fully loaded, so my EVO runs circles around this tablet. i've searched google for custom ROMS for this tablet, but come up with nothing, especially for the 4.0.
Thanks all.
I have this tablet, really nice tablet. A lot of us have downgraded back to 2.3.4 everything seems to work on gingerbread.
I haven't seen any roms, I did put together a recovery for 2.3.4 version. Momo9 seems to have a lot going for it, that's an 7" version of this tablet.
Anyway good luck

how do i downgrade to 2.3? does anyone have the stuff necessary to perform the downgrade with some instruction? i've never downgraded before, only upgraded. i'm sick and tired of the force closes on 4.0.
Here is a custom rom, I made a few changes to it so it can be installed on momo8 via my recovery.
http://bit.ly/ykpLXn
Before you install make sure you back up your data and system via my recovery.
once they are backed up place this zip in the zip folder on your sdcard.
if you created directories you should find on your sdcard a folder called momo8, inside that folder are three more folders. backup, updates, zip
this goes in zip folder.
you need to go to advanced options select wipe system, then you can install zip you would need to press home to go back to main screen from there choice install zip follow onscreen instructions. as with backing up wait a bit after zip is installed before pressing home to go to main screen.
If you want to wipe your data, you can do that as well, you would need to wipe data first before wiping system or come back after you installed zip then wipe data.
the custom rom came from this thread.

issues with tablet
First off, I just bought this thing and it is PAINFULLY slow. After doing some research, I have decided I want to downgrade it to 2.3.4 however, I believe that a lot of folks posting tutorials do not use english as their first language. That said, I downloaded this phoenixprousb, which is definately not in english, and it requires an img and a key. I managed to find a fresh IMG, but no one seems to mention anything about a key.
Does anyone know anything about what they mean by .key and is there an easier better way to do this? The only tutorial I can find requires a .key which they dont include.

It's your tablet, brick it if you want, I wont bother trying to stop you anymore.

PVP?!
God I hate these tabs
SO i managed to flash the tab over to the 2.3.4 clean version listed here but now market doesnt work. Any solutions?

Try flashing a clean original 2.3.4. from Ployer site. Use google translator to find download section and type MOMO8A to find the right firmware. It works perfectly on my tab.
Hi guys, i haven't found any MOMO8 theards, so I have to ask here.
I have flashed firmware for LY-F1,but now I can't flash MOMO8 firmware back.
I have tried LiveSuit, all the Phoenix tools but no luck.

[HELP] Looking for Stock Rom for Alcatel OT-983

Hello, and hope this is the right place to post this.
So, without any knowledge about all this smatphone/android stuff, I finally got one by a really good price. An ot-983.
Some friends conviced me to root it. I found a way to do it and noticing all the bloatware from it's original carrier (this phone was carrier unlocked when bought) I decided to clean up a bit.
I ended up cleaning a lot of stuff that I simply didn't use from a \custapp\ folder in there.
Thing is, a day latter I got a notification of a firmware update and I just said yes.
The said update failed, complaining it seems about the lack of some of the deleted bloatware.
Now, here's when the lack of thinking shows.
Wondering about it, I decided to look around options and found the factory reset.
Being a new and mostly empty phone, I did it (wiped clean the sd too),
And there, it went all into hell!
After reboot, it can't get my wireless anymore (have to use a static ip workaround for it...)
Root Checker says it's not properly rooted (using the same rooting technique as the first time doesn't fix it)
superuser still seems to be working, altho it crashes now and then with some errors about permissions.
also, can't get BusyBox working because it says there's no su binary and I can't download an update for it.
In short, I guess I need to get this phone to it's basics, if possible unbranded.
I don't really know what I need for that, but here I am, reaching at you that might help
I guess I need a stock rom and a way to flash it.
I'd appreciate a lot any help on getting whatever it is needed.
*cheers

I simply downloaded the drivers from alcatel website
and then used the root package from here: <can't post outside links. it's a thread on error-soft dot net
Followed the instructions on the .txt included and it worked.
After that I think I had to install Superuser app (from live store)
be careful. My problems came from deleting some stock apps included and then doing a firmware update.
so, don't delete stuff around if you're thinking in doing the upgrade.

Where did you get the upgrade from ?
My story is like this: rooted, uninstalled some bloat from system and after a factory reset I'm stuck in the initial setup wizard (after completing almost all stages from setup it crashes at the end, after connecting at the google account - tryed to ignore that step but either way it crashes). Fastboot works but adb don't.
I do have another identical phone Alcatel One Touch OT-983 but with no root, with no modifications. Is there a way to backup the original/stock image and flash it over the malfunctioning one and restore it??
I tried with the proprietary upgrade tool from Alcatel but no succes as it close saying I don't need an upgrade because it's the last version of software installed in my phone. I thought even to broke intentionally the rom but I'm afraid that the upgrade utility from Alcatel will let me down, as I read that another users didn't managed to complete successfully the upgrading process. Is there a way to trick the system that has a previous version of Android?
Thank you for taking your time to read this and hope someone has an idea to solve our problem.
Have a nice day guys, you can contact me at puiocku at gmail dot com.
Have someone this stock rom (for Alcatel One Touch 983 (Valencia)) ???
Here is a Alcatel OT-983 rom, not sure which country it is from: https://www.dropbox.com/s/g2ljtrpqru3uihm/rom 983.zip?m
Here is my o2 uk backup rom: http://www.mirrorcreator.com/files/C4VEKHEI/OT-983_backup_uk.rar_links
this .zip file contains the boot.img, system.img and recovery.img
Someone needs to create a clockwork mod recovery for our phones now.
here is the sourcecode for this phone: http://www.mirrorcreator.com/files/85KDRTYP/OT_983_20130103.7z_links

I recently "semi bricked", if my Alcatel OT983, if that's possible. It would not boot fully and got stuck on the "jrdsetupwizard has stopped" screen.
Here's what I did. The issue with getting the Alcatel One Touch Upgrade software to work appears to be getting the correct USB Driver installed. There are a number of potential USB drivers. This phone needs the driver in the Alcatel One Touch Upgrade. The stock Windows one or the one used for rooting the phone using instructions from the errorsoft website from the oneofgod will not work with this upgrade procedure.
1. Download the Alcatel One Touch Upgrade software and install on your machine. Open up the folder where the software is installed.
Look inside the folder that is called USB Driver and look inside the appropriate folder for your type of Windows machine 64bit or 32bit (x86) and install that driver for USB - that is the correct one for the upgrade
2. Run the upgrade software whilst connected to the internet. Connect your phone when it is off. You should just get the Android icon i.e. not charging or anything else. The icon should just stay there all the time the process takes place.
3. The upgrade will download. It's when the process gets to about 70% that the phone the starts upgrading. It will take a few moments but when it starts progressing into the late 70s and 80s you should be well on the way. At least that's how it went for me and I got my phone back!
Hope this helps.
to Hajj_3 :
Tanks for share the ROM.. I need it to recover my friends phone..
I just got this phone, not looking to root it yet as theres no option for a custom rom yet.
didnt want to start a new thread as theres not really any section for this phone yet.
Everything was fine until i installed the firmware update. Now applications cannot access the mic. Some complain about it being in use by another app. others like video editor or sound recorder will record, but the video recorder there is no file, and sound recorder crashes when you hit stop.
Alcatels website is useless, wasnt working yesterday, today it is but cant find any contact details incase its a bug in there firmware. Everything works fine except for that. Which is annoying because i use RTA software and now it doesnt as it cant access the mic.
any ideas?
Hi guys,
I've rooted my phone with abd and udpate.zip a long time ago, and it was fine till some days ago it stopped from receiving calls and the home button does nothing when pressed, although in recovey mode it works.
I've done a hard reset, reflashed the recovery.img, system.img and boot.img I've found in this post with fasboot, but did not solve the problem.
I've tried a firmware update with Alcatel's own software but it just keeps saying my firmware is updated already. I've also tried to edit the proinfo file, but I don't know what to change in the file. You can see more about that method here: http://forum.gsmhosting.com/vbb/9772370-post8.html
My guess is that the files that are corrupted and preventing me from receiving calls are somewhere else than those img's I've flashed. Has anybody got a FULL backup of his rom (e.g. Rom Manager) so I can recover the phone completely?
Thanks!
