Hi folks. I need to change my sig. My Korean SGS was destroyed and ended up with a korean Motoroi xt720 for cheap. I am in Korea. I can read a few computer terms and for anything else have easy access to people who can read more.
Anyway, I made it through the upgrade process. However, it didn't give me a rom file, rather it actually flashed the phone from the web page. There's a chance I can find the rom file somewhere on my hard drive.
I had to do it twice. The first time it seemed like it was installing some upgrade manager tool (but I was clicking ok pretty fast). There was a yes or no question that I didn't bother to try to translate any further even if I could. Yes allowed the continue button to pup up.. but then the computer rebooted. I did it again though and the second time after hitting the big orange button.. it rebooted the phone and flashed it.
Let me know if I can help with something, and let me know if you know of any big things to watch out for if I'm taking advice from the U.S/EU threads. Obviously, not using those ROMS is the main one.
By the way, rooting by adb with rageagainst the cage worked fine for me as expected.
update: so I checked the ahrd drive. The file isn't there. With a somewhat similar samsung process I sometimes had to kill the program just before it flashed, then I could find the file. Unfortunately, it won't do it again, because it detects that I'm already upgraded. Of course I can just tar up my /system directory.

Can you post your kernel version and configuration strings (S/W version etc)?
model XT720 (but korean one of course)
S/W version STSKT_N_79.33.50R
android version 2.2.1
kernel version 2.6.29-omap1
Did I miss anything?
I am capable of extracting and probably unpacking a kernel image, assuming it doesn't go too differently than for the Samsung. I would want hints on what block device to get it from though.
Another possibility is flashing back to an older rom, and trying to upgrade again, but I'd need to find an older rom. I wrote down my original ROM version somewhere, so I can try to search for it.
I'd actually like to have this too, because it's nice if I mess something up or need A/S, to have a clean ROM to fall back to.

I think that's the same as what we have. You can download the sbf here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=881801 Thanks!
Ok thanks!
One thing you could try change your build prop to the motorio but this could be dangerous.

Disclaimer: I will not be held responsible for any damage to your phone, your PC or indeed your life from following this guide. The steps in this guide worked for me. If you have problems uninstall everything and start from Step 4 again. Doing this kind of thing could affect your warranty and all that so have a long hard think about it before you go ahead
US Owners - If you flash the UK firmware, you will lose 3g and wifi calling app etc... There are fixes for this problem that can be found on other Forums. A guide on how to restore this which has worked for others is HERE
##WARNING: be careful when flashing 2.51 firmware, firstly its patched so root isn't achievable by the usual methods, and isn't easy to downgrade back to other firmware - I suggest you search and read the various topics on it. My advice is to use 2.21 UK or 2.34 Deblur firmware##
This guide will show you how to debrand your Motorola Defy (Eg bought on T-Mobile UK and want generic UK firmware), or indeed restore the phone if you brick (Eg removing important apps that you shouldn’t have touched!!)
Props go to jutley (Modaco)for his debranding guide for the flipout, and dkspook (Modaco) for his information in other threads, and anyone else who thinks they may have contributed, oh yeah and my Mum.
##Disconnect phone from PC##
STEP 1 Download usb drivers here below
Motorola Drivers Here
STEP 2 Download the debranded Firmware here (To debrand to generic UK I used the one marked UK - choose the one for your country)
Choose Firmware Here
STEP 3 Download RSDLite - I used v4.9, I found earlier versions would not work. Get it here.
RSDLite 4.9 Here
STEP 4 Install the USB Drivers and the RSDLite program and reboot PC
STEP 5 Extract the firmware file you downloaded a while ago. Then copy the .sbf firmware file to c:\Program files\Motorola\RSDLite folder (installation directory for RDSLite). this should come out as JRDNEM_U3_2.21.0_SIGNED_UCAJRDNEMARAB1B80AA028.0R_USAJORDANRTGB_P026_A007_HWp3_S
rvice1FF.sbf for the UK one.
STEP 6 Start the RSDLite program now where it says filename press the select button and find the .sbf firmware file in c:\Program files\Motorola\RSDLite (it should default to this folder) and select the (sbf) file some details will appear on the right hand side.
STEP 7 We now need to boot the phone into the bootloader (as above make sure the phone is disconnected from USB – not sure if matters tho!). Hold the volume up and then power the phone on, after about 5 seconds release the buttons and the bootloader should display - it will show the version and a battery check. Now plug in the USB cable and it should install the drivers . Once the driver installation has finished you should see the phone appear at the bottom of the RSDLite program window under `port 1` - Once this is there you are ready to flash the firmware. NB: I had issues getting it to show a number of times. Uninstalling RSDLite/Drivers, rebooting PC, and then reinstalling these resolved this issue.
STEP 8 Press the start button on the RSDLite and just relax while your device gets flashed, debranded etc. you will see a progress status on the right hand side wait till it reaches 100% but please do not disconect it will reboot the phone automaticly and restart the phone. And just wait untill android comes up and fully running untill you disconnect it should read (PLEASE START PHONE MANUALY) on RSDLite when this shows it is safe to unplug.
Hopefully now you will have a debranded/unbricked phone.
One thing I noticed that was cool is that the data partition stayed intact for me when I debranded, meaning all my settings and installed app (providing you hadn’t moved stuff to /system) were still there after the process – cool! The only thing you will have to do is re-root the device.
Hope you find this useful and I look forward to a great community for the Defy!
Nice job! This worked perfectly. We now just need the tmo us FW. I'm kind of iffy about messing with my phone much more until I have a failsafe.

Whats the benefit of the T-Mobile US Firmware - some kind of extra functionality? If we could get it, we could flash by this method and flash back if we didn't like it anyways I suppose.
In theory this method is a failsafe tho because if you mess any thing up you can get back to a different firmware. I must say I personally would like to get my hands on the original T-Mobile UK .sbf, just in case I wanted to put it back to its original state for returns/repair, so if anyone has found it (I haven't yet) please let me know.
If a tmo us user flashes with the uk FW they lose 3g.
A tmo us or just generic us fw would give us the clean sweep option while keeping our 3g.
Can I use the Uk Firm for a Vodafone Spain Defy??

Now then DJD!
Na we need the .sbf file for it but it no biggy at the moment. Get it rooted mate - easiest way is to download z4root from the market - works a treat and roots in like 10 secs lol.
Stopped going on htcdevscene for a number of reasons, firstly i could never get on the site and secondly i felt the way it was run was very inconsistent.
Just sold my Hero - they are going for between 80-120 on ebay the top end is for brand new boxed. I have just sold mine to a mobile recycle place for £103. This phone is different gravy to the hero for sure.
Anyway mate look forward to seeing you around again
Thanks for this guide Higgsy, very easy to follow even for a noob like me.
I have now said goodbye to Vodafone's crap a mere 20 minutes after opening the box with my shiny new DEFY in that was delivered today.

No probs - Gone be the dirty network custom apps and splash screens!!
Done too. Thank you.
EDIT: Just reflashed and then calibrated the compass. Seems to be working now. Sorry for the unnecessary message.
Ok, having taken the phone out since I got rid of the Vodafone stuff, I've discovered that the GPS is no longer working. I've got GPS Test on it and it only sees one satellite where before it saw a load. I'm going to reload the firmware now, but does anyone have any ideas?
Higgsy what are the benefits of rooting and flashing the generic unbranded software apart from getting rid of the t-mobile rubbish?

DJD,
No real benefits apart from getting rid of any tmobile crap, there isn't much bloatware in the tmobile uk build anyways. I just like generic lol. And as for rooting - please tell me that question is joke surely as a seasoned veteran you know what that is geezer
I know rooting opens up a world of goodies but there arent any goodies for this phone yet in the way of ROMS, at least thats what i can gather so far lol. Can it be over clocked and JITenabled yet? after rooting it of course, sorry im being lazy n not google-ing lol.
Plus for my totally blonde moment if i flash the generic uk firmware would it still mean i could get the over the air 2.2 update when it is released by motorola before t-mobile release their bloatware version?

JIT can be enabled - its not stable imo - I tried it before, gonna have a better look at it.
i would expect you will be able to get the generic 2.2 update, to be fair, I think we will be flashing roms by that time anyways
Anyway stop being a ***** and get it rooted
OI lol,
Just downloaded z4root will put it on my memory card n get root tomorrow me thinks.
p.s z4root is no longer on the market, found the z4root.apk in a thread on here tho luckily lol.
Ok, now I do have a problem. I've flashed the non-branded rom and very happy with it, but my in-call speaker has failed this morning. This seems to be a common problem with the Defy and I suspect it needs replacing or repairing, but I need to put back the branded rom to have the phone in warranty, don't I? How do I even begin to go about that?

You can't unless you can find the vodafone .sbf sorry mate it was mentioned at the top of the post.
They probably wouldn't know anyway, just deny all knowledge if they say anything.
Hello,
I have a brand new TF101, but the version is not US nor WW nor anything that I could find on the Asus web site. It's an HMJ37.TB_epad rom. Probably related to the fact that I'm in Belgium, we never do things like other people
Now I want to root it, but there is no "stock" TB firmware that I could find to nvflash back if something goes wrong and/or I need to send it for repair. I did find a thread where a method to backup my own device with nvflash is described. But apparently noone tried to reflash a complete backup to see if it works, and it is also clearly said that some partitions are encrypted, so not reflashable as is. So it seems that I basically have no way back if I root. Am I misinterpreting something ? Is there some other source for stock roms with a TB variant ?
Also, I'd like to try Prime, but I read that it's for US or WW models only, so I don't know if it would work... remember that I currently have no way back if things go wrong, so I'd like to be sure
I would be very gratefull if anyone could help...
Thanks,
--
Rémi
You'll need a stock TB SKU ROM to unroot and send it back for any service. As for using Prime WW/US, both will work just fine. The hardware is all the same.
find stock TB firmware
thanks for your answer, at least I know I can try Prime
Any idea where I could find a stock TB firmware ?
Did you try asus website?
yes, even the Belgian website has all the localised roms (I guess they all come from the same source), but not TB.
I'll ask my distributor, but as they are just that (distributors) I guess they won't be able to help...
asus answers :-(
Hi,
just for the record in case someone has the same problem:
I contacted Asus support, which told me "the TB version is not yet availlable, please be patient until it is on our web site".
With a bit more poking (ETA? will it really happen?), they added "no ETA, we will tell you when we know".
So no ETA, even informal, and no confirmation that it is indeed planned or even in the making...
A bit disappointed after reading so many (justified) praises for a device which will always recover from whatever one flashes to it. For some unknown reason, we Belgian must stay out of it :-(
I'm in a similar situation; i have the Japanese version which comes with a Japanese keyboard. so using a different region will mess up the keyboard configuration. there is also a secondary program called fskaren which is like a helper for entering kanji characters (instead of a native IME like most other languages)
Like the Belgium model, there is no JP rom out yet (we're still on 3.0.1; but im not sure if Gingerbreak is patched on this version) So when I flashed prime on my transformer (1.5 with nvflash), it not only "broke" the kb (changed it to US format, so i couldnt enter japanese, the kana and font size buttons didnt work as well as some remaped keys like the @ key would show a "[") but it also ended up messing up the recovery partition.
CWM worked fine but when I tried to NVFlash it to a stock WW there was a problem: it deleted CWM fine but it couldnt fully flash the recovery partition (if i did the vol - then vol+ at boot it would give me the android with a ! symbol, I could only do a hard reset if i had the ww firmware loaded on an Sd card. i tried a bunch of combinations for stock ww for 3.0.1 and 3.1 and there was never a time where i could do a hard reset without having the renamed eee_update file on SD.
So a word of warning to people with different version hardware; be careful what you flash, especially if your hardware is noticably different from the "common" versions.
Luckily I was able to get an exchange (from the store) and now i:m waiting for the files to be released or an update so that I can root (i'm assuming that the "pure root" method will work (and I can forgo the CMW part and keep my original recovery partition since ill need FSkaren for japanese)
However, without CMW, i cant make system backups, are there any simple ways to build an NVFlash backup?
There was a link on Modaco for a gui version of nvflash but it didnt work for me (it showed no errors, the progress bar just goes to 100 but no files were created).
I read the thread with the script for doing a backup, would someone like to explain how that one works? (Im assuming through adb but there are some details about restoration that I cant understand)
Id really like to be able to make a recovery for the JP version as I have found that there are quite a few people here who had flashed prime and found that the keyboard functionality had been borked (id like to be able to help them and im sure that it would be useful for building a repository for all the international versions out there.
does anyone want to write a tutorial?
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk
hi, thanks for your answer.
Our situations are a bit different because the TB 3.1 rom does exist, my transformer is running it. My problem is just that I cant find it as a standalone flashable download, and I cant find a reliable way to backup my current rom as a whole.
Now Belgium has indeed its own keyboard layout, that must be the reason for the custom rom, and apparently I would loose it by flashing prime or any custom rom... crap... keyboard layout should just be a config file :-(
Anyway, I wont touch that beast until I have a reliable way to come back, and will keep this thread informed of my findings if any.
Thanks,
--
Rèmi
The Keyboard layout is partially a configuration file for the JP version. A few Japanese people have remapped the keyboard so it matches when running Prime, but since there is no Japanese IME (except voice) our versions need a soft keyboard which runs together with the dock (when you want to type in Japanese). So even with the keyboard settings files in the right place, we would still need the software to add work it.
As for backing up, take a look at this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1129308
I haven't had time to try it (I need to learn how to use it properly first, someone mentioned a possibility of bricking on restore) but it looks like it can be a solution.

yep that's the thread that I saw to make my own backup. The problem is that noone tried the restore part
Furthermore, they clearly say that some partitions are encrypted and should not be restored, but apparently they don't know which ones for sure... so although promising, not an option right now.
on the same HMJ37.TB boat
hello rhaaa,
I'm just posting to tell you we are on the same belgian boat
So I thank you for having created the topic, I hope you (and other belgian buyers) can keep us updated about this flash issue. Of course, I'll do the same if I have some fresh info.
By the way, did you do the recent OTA? I'm still on the 8.4.4.5.2-20110603 build.
regards from Brussels,
oliwek
i rooted yesterday BEFORE i read this thread. Have done only root + installed CWM
was going to install a custom rom but might hold off a bit more... Although the fact that i am now rooted will probably stop me from getting new OTA updates?
if I feel lucky, i might install a new rom anyway and hope an original one has surfaced by the time I will actually need it
BUT: does flashing to eg prime rom will make it so that my azerty dock will be in qwerty mode?
Belgium always does things differently in regard to Android, rumor is it's legally regulated somehow.
I will abstain from rooting until the original TB SKU comes out. Keep us posted, if anyone comes across a TB SKU! Cheers!

for people reading dutch, I suppose this is related : http://www.sigridschrijft.be/index.php/geen-youtube-app-in-belgie-door-rechtzaak-sabam/
(no youtube app on different android devices for the belgian market)
i used the topic : [ROM] Transformer 3.1 pure root and worked like a charm
don't remember the exact version but is the one before .11...
still debating on which rom i will try first might wait for prime 1.6 ...
thanks for the details
now that we have some belgians united: has anyone of you been able to install youtube ? i just can't figurer it out.. Not available in the market. Have gotten an apk from somewhere but that didn't install and have tried market access with different codes and that didn't work either...
any help is appreciated !
try with this file attached (works on 3.1 but not on 3.0, or so I have heard)
edit : sorry, you already probably did try with this file, but are you on android 3.1? what is the error message if this doesn't work?
you could try to use alogcat before retrying to install, to get a detailed log
edit : by the way, I wonder if you change your localisation in Android for Netherland or France, or if you use a public proxy to get an IP located abroad, you wouldn't then find youtube for tablet on the market.... You could find several google apps you couldn't find in Europe if you used an american IP through public proxy, so this could work...
see for example this : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1072655&page=9
Belgian will get youtube on their tablet when using it from their vacation spot in Torre Molinos
it worked with the apk you provided ! Thanks a million
I had a similar apk from tweakers.net that didn't work ...
you're a life-saver !
My father in law bought a new phone SGS on O2 and I offered to unlock it as I have unlocked my husbands last week (he's was on O2 as well but in 2.1 or 2.2.1 version I think-froyo?)
Before I continue may I say I know you guys out there know so much more than me and I really need your help. I really tried to help unlocking this phone and for hours I searched and read things like reboot, download mode, recovery mode, flashing, JKV and so many other words and letter that I could not understand. Very few I understood in the end but may have messed up badly (?).
Please, I need help and please treat me as if I were your mum or even grandma. Step by step in simple normal English please.
My father in law's version is 2.3.3
I tried unlocking it the way I unlocked my husband's but didn't work after looking for hours I thought that the best way to do it would be to downgrade from 2.3.3 (gingerbread (?)) to 2.2.1 (froyo (?)) and then unlock it.
I found this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1089989
and tried to follow it.
I downloaded EZRom and EZboot-Froyo-1.0.tar.md5 from the same post.
I followed:
•Download the right version from section above
•Reboot your phone into Download mode
•Connect your phone to computer
•Run EZOdin
•Select EZboot-Froyo-1.0.tar.md5 or EZboot-GingerBread-1.0.tar.md5as a PDA file in EZOdin
•Check the "Phone Bootloader Update" checkbox
•Click Start
I waited for the phone to turn off and feel the little vibration but didn't. Instead it just froze at the first screen when you turn on the phone. The black background with white letters: Samsung Galaxy...
I waited and waited and as nothing was happening I then I took the battery out. Put it back in and tried turning it on. I wouldn't it would just stop and that same screen, the black and white one.
I reread
•Wait until phone reboots and make it reboot into Recovery
SO then I remembered in the many threads I read about the recovery mode so 3 clicked vol up + button at them bottom and turn on bottom.
It gives me a few options. When I click on reboot all it does is show me the black and white screen again and nothing else. ah!!!
I took the battery off and put it back on may times, also selected the fatory reset option and tried different buttons but nothing. Please help me.
I'm happy to phone any of you guys to help me and guide me even if it's just to put the phone back to what it was before, turning on normally, etc. (I can't even turn it on!) I'm feeling really sad and a bit stressed as these days are supposed to be a nice time to spend with my little ones and family.
Anyway, please ask me anything.
Thank you so much in advance. I really hope I didn't do anything wrong and I'm just stuck because I'm ignorant in this matter. Thank you
Well, I have no skill in this area. But I wish you good luck, and this post is acting as a bump! Double goal!
After a little rethinking: (I don't have a SGS and never touched one) You can try re-stocking the phone. Not sure how you do that. I'll check.

1.WHAAAA! I think I bricked my phone. My flash was unsuccessful/My device boots to a black screen/similar scenarios. Can I still save my device?
Most likely: YES! In almost any case, you should still be able to turn off the device (if necessary by removing the battery) and start into download-mode (VolumeDown+Home+Power) or recovery-mode (VolumeUp+Home+Power). After (for example) an unsuccessful flash, you can retry the flash in download-mode (same steps as when flashing a functioning device). If a flash to a functioning f/w (without applying any update.zip) doesn't help or you cannot get your PC to flash at all, you can ask for help here.
If you see a symbol asking you to connect to the PC, depending on how you arrived at this point, it may be sufficient to connect to the PC and run Odin (i.e. press "start" when the phone is recognized) without adding any files. This may, however, leave some residual issues if (for example) had an incorrect/incomplete flash so you may want to do a normal flash after this!
If you do not have download mode and for some ludicrous reason felt the need to go ahead and modify your firmware regardless of this lacking, there is now a guide on creating a home-made JIG which will force your device into download mode without the actual button combo here.

If you need any extra help, I'll try.
Im somewhat of a rookie user too but I do know this, If you can still go into recovery/download mode (using the 3 button combo) then you havent bricked the phone and you can fix it! so dont stress too much .
EDIT: Im guessing you can download a stock ROM and flash it via odin.

Well, no problem, I guess. I don't think it needs to come to voice support, to be honest. I think text is enough for the issue in matter. I'll look a bit into this, I'll have to go soon from my computer. I'm sorry if I can't be of any greater help.

Your post helped me not to stress too much.
I'd like to download a stock rom and flash it but I don't know how to.
Here's where I am. I found a list of firmware. This is the last one on Samfirmware.com.
Europe Samsung I9000 Firmwares.
I9000XXJVS ##
512.PIT
2.3.5
2011 September 8
CSC = I9000OXAJVS
DOWNLOAD
Things I need: (I think)
-Download a firmware (should I use the lastest one?) or 2.2 or 2.3.3? . Is there one better than the other? or is it my choice? How can I choose the best one for me?
-Odin. I have OdinMultiDownloader v4.03 in my desktop. Is that the best thing to use or should I use Ezodin. I don't know what the difference is.
-(Do I need to download or do anything else?)
Things I should do:
-Put phone in download mode
-Plug it to the laptop
-Open Odin (or Exodin?)
-click PDA. Choose the fie I downloaded-firmware.
(-after this I don't know what else I should do or tick or untick)
Am I in the right track or completely off it?
Thank you again to anyone taking the time to read this.

In my thoughts, I believe that should be what you need. You can try, if that doesn't solve the issue, it's because you need something else as well.
And the think you should make the file a PDA file, I believe. Don't take my answer too direct. I'm almost unknown with Samsung devices on that matter, but I can say a couple of things, like, that, I'm pretty sure it is on PDA files.
And no problem, always pleasing to help someone in trouble. I was/am a rookie too Ignore the Senior Member thingie. Still a noob in pretty much everything. And don't panic, no need for that.
Thank you. I should try that tonight unless someone stops me before to tell me I'm about to make another mistake.

Haha. I doubt it. 99,99% of actions are reversible, really. And I have severe doubts that this is one of the remaining 0,01%.
Well, I wish you good luck. If you ever need any more help, you can post here. I'll look into here time to time.
BTW. Just wait a second. You know that link you give on the first post? There's also a Gingerbread file. You can *try* flashing that one, to see if it reverses the problem. Sounds legit to me.

ok, here goes. i saw a video on youtube
(i'm a new member, so i'm replacing this link. the video is "Root & Install Ice Cream Sandwich On The Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant No Computer Needed" by eddie1west)
it seemed so easy, right? i'm looking for the most stable Tmobile Vibrant ICS. Before i do that, now i have to un-junk my phone. i tried to follow that guy's instructions to put the new OS on my vibrant, but i messed something up along the way. Then i realized when he shows his phone's files, they have a different name and/or version than the links he provides. that may have had something to do with it, but it could also be that he started from stock in january, and i started from gingerbread in july....
well i put some update.zip file in the root (but was never shown when or if it needs removed), then finally got the phone rooted (but when i held all 3 buttons i never got the BLUE menu like he did. mine was RED until i applied his update.zip and then it was only GREEN until i rebooted. it always starts at RED), then installed his gingerbread over mine, then tried to load his link to ICSv13 (even though the one he used was v10), but all i got was a never ending boot. i thought maybe i needed to start from where he did, so i watched his other video (LINK REPLACED: "How To Go Back To Stock Eclair On Your Samsung Galaxy S With Odin 1.3" by eddie1west) and tried to start all over (but his download links didn't work and i had to find all the files singly). So, using odin v1.85 (but he used v1.3), i only ended up getting froyo (not eclair) and NO google apps icon....! Sigh
then it seemed like every link i clicked to try to fix my issues just brought me to this website. so i'm thinking you all must know your shhhhhhhtuff! i've read through so many forum pages like the "enable a lagfix"/"disable a lagfix" pages, the "flash with 2 files"/"flash with 3 and check a box" pages, sometimes Odin has PDA as the second button and sometimes it's third, some that say to flash without that update.zip file (so delete, flash, then put it there? then leave it?). and to top it all off, most answers take me to an older page (and program or file versions have changed or have updates since then....all newer stuff still compatible with each other?) AND a lot of the links i've clicked on are broken and i have to hope the file i find is the same as the instruction writer intended. (i guess if a file size was indicated, i could compare them kb for kb...)
about an hour ago, i was going to reflash some OS that kind of worked, then try to disable those 2 voodoo commands some page said to enable, then take the update.zip out, then try everything all over again when i got the message "CONVERT PARTITION, SYSTEM NOT AVAILABLE, CONVERT PARTITION, SYSTEM NOT AVAILABLE"!
THEN i thought.....HANG ON! JUST BECAUSE YOU HAVE A P3N1S DOESN'T MEAN THERE ARE LAWS AGAINST STOPPING AND ASKING FOR DIRECTIONS!!!! LOL!
So I stopped messing with the phone. From where i am right now, how do i get to a stable version of ICS? Will someone please give me a step-by-step list on what to do now? And can the list include file links that aren't broken (or a single zip file with everything in it would be like hitting the lottery!) and things i can look for to know i'm on the right track at the 1/3 mark and 2/3 mark possibly?
and could i please get a little forgiveness for being so long-winded when i get frustrated? and a tissue? and something to hit? (well..while i'm begging...can i get a large stuffed-crust meat-lover's and some diet dew too?) i may have found the reason that so many people use drugs! lol!
FYI, i'm on T-mobile using a T959V
FOLLOW UP-----
I moved this question here because I was just informed that the Vibrant is NOT the name of the Galaxy S 4G!
So what ur saying is the update.zip works on the t959v? And gives you root......I had a good feeling it would.
But anyhow you should go to the dev tab here in this forum and dl gremlin remover (one click)! and use that to get u back to stock.
We do not have a stable ics.
We are just now getting cm9 ics but you've got to understand its not perfect yet.....stick with gb for awhile and learn how this phone functions.
And don't worry...like the vibrant .....this phone is in my findings.....unbrickable

That is quite correct. They are different animals. If the gremlin remover doesn't help or get you where you need to go, I'd suggest using The T959V Heimdall One-Click Collection. Following the instructions there will get you back to a booting, stock Gingerbread ROM. From there you can go find ROM/ROMS of your liking (we have great developers) and give it/them a go.
Let us know if you need help.
well i meant the MOST stable Android 4 (aka cm9? ice cream)... or, for that matter, Android 3 (aka cm8? french silk pie? twinkie? zinger? lol! yum.....) would work too...
ok, i'll go find that program this afternoon/evening and fix the phone. (i just have to remember not to get that prog wet or feed it after midnight....)
now that i feel like an accidental guinea pig because i found you an answer you didn't know, then do you want me to test the compatibility of anything else out on it before i fix it? post your working links and i'll report back.
also, thanks for the gremlin help.
@stephen_w
is there an Odin one-click zip dealy thingy (and yes, that IS the technical term )
Lol I'm good I use to have the vibrant and just had a feeling this phone could have been rooted without hooking up to a comp.
Gremlin remover is an an Odin one click in itself.

Aokp and Cm9 are pretty stable just a couple bugs but not a big deal haven't tried miui v4 out yet. Good luck lol
Sent from my GT-P7510 using XDA
So how did it go?
I'm running cm9 btw....its very stable been running it now for 2days now and they got ringer working so really the only bug is front camera and I don't use it so for me I'm good
Back in February of 2014 I rooted my phone and I went through and started deleting some of the software that came preinstalled. No one likes the preinstalled bloatware anyways, but in the process I deleted some core files that were important to basic operation.
I figured no big deal I'll just get clockwork and find the ROM online and no big deal. Well... That didn't go so well because I had already accepted the secure boot over the air update.
Phone currently turns on and I'm able to get into the boot loader and a normal boot tells me to take it into Verizon (only for them to say there's nothing we can do).
I came here for answers and never bothered to make a post. All I found were people saying I'm screwed and two tutorials, one for a true bricked phone and the other that's image did not work for me in ODIN.
Now with a new job right around the corner and them requiring me to have a phone, I'm in a pickle. I'm coming back and while I can find some answers now most of the links have been removed.
Where can I find a copy of the stock rom so I can once again use my phone and which ODIN version should I be using (and where to get)? - if I can even remember how to use one since it's been so long.
I did find samsung-updates[dot]com/device/?id=SCH-I535 in a youtube video description from another post on XDA but 12 hours for a download doesn't seem practical especially if the file doesn't even work.
Also there was an ODIN post on XDA that had links for a download that Chrome will NOT let me download. When I say "will not", I actually mean I can only dismiss the notice that chrome says this file is malicious. There is no proceed anyways option and it comes with a "do not enter" icon. Other compressed versions of ODIN download fine but no clue what version I'm after.

Use a different browser to download your files, sometimes chrome won't download things properly.
Use this guide to fix your situation:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2586319
You can use that file of you're on 4.3, but if you were on 4.4 you need a stock 4.4.2 image. Everything you need is in the sticky in the development section. All downloads are available and guides for figuring out which version you're on.
Thank you!

Much appreciated,
... I'm really bad at hitting the submit button. I've already called my dad to tell him happy birthday. (It's 2 AM and he has to be at work at 7, totally worth it)!
