[Q] CM9 Dev Tools Fake Albums media provider [SOLVED] - Optimus One, P500, V Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So in CM9's dev tools under media provider there is a button called insert 20 albums. I innocently hit it trying to see what it did. As expected it made 20 fake albums on my device. However I can't find a way to remove these. Others have said that when they reboot they're gone, but mine stick around. I can't find any files with these names on my device. I also tried adding 20 new ones and rebooting to see if it was just a glitch and they would go away after that, so now I have 40 fake albums on my device. Does anyone know how to get rid of them?

I don't know how that feature works, but have you already tried clearing music app data?

yeah sorry I should have mentioned that. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the player even.

I don't mean to be rude, but I'mbumping this in hopes that someone smarter than me can find it

After posting I decided to try my luck again. I found the media provider databases internal.db and external.db in /data/data/com.android.providers.media/databases
after poking around in them I found reference to the fake albums in the external.db they seem to reference some bogey url instead of a file, so I just deleted the external.db and rebooted. It appears to have repopulated with normal settings afterwards.

Here the case is old, but as still same case here with me. By the way, Thanks for helping!

Click to collapse
I know it can be deleted because I deleted it from mine. I don't remember how exactly I did it, though.
From what I can remember...
If you go to \HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\FavoritesEntries there are Keys for all of the IE Favorites.
Click on the one for MEdia Net and delete the ReadOnly entry.
Then you should be able to remove it from the IE favorites.
For that matter, you can probably just delete the MEdia Net key altogether and skip a step but I didn't try that.
Super. I deleted the entire folder and away it went. Thanks. That seemed so easy!

Delete HTC links in windows start menu

Hi!
How could I delete HTC default links in windows start menu (footprints, music, etc...)
I've tried to delete them from (\windows\start menu\etc...), but when i reboot the phone they are still there !
Many thanks
no one has the same problem ?
thx
To be honest, they don't bother me in the slightest, but I was just able to delete the HTC messaging link, and it's still not reappeared after 2 resets.
I know that some files will be replaced if they're deleted, but these links don't appear to come under that heading, on my phone at least.
Maybe create a sub-folder in the programs folder and just try moving them to there. It may not recreate them unless they're actually deleted.

Like I said, I'm personally not bothered whether they're there or not, but I've just checked that registry entry, and it's set to 1 but I can delete the links and they don't come back.
Weird.
Edit: I take it back. The only that doesn't get recreated is the one I tried as a test - the messaging one. The other 4 (calendar, music, people & twitter) do come back. Never mind!

[REQ] MP3 Tagger

I thought I had made a thread for this a while ago, but can not find it. Sorry if its a repost.
What I was wondering is whether or not someone who had an app, or the skilz to make an app, that can take a sample of an mp3/wma/ogg/flac/etc file, match it on say shazam or something then update the ID3 tag with the pulled info. With the option for it just to rename them automatically, or ask for your approval of changes. Much like how Album Art Grabber gets your artwork for you on mass, with little or no manual intervention. This would be great for a few reasons.
I have been finding myself using mp3 download apps on my phone a lot now, more so than my comp and these files are usually incomplete at best. a way to get these, then run this app to fix discrepancies would be awesome!
Its not that I'm lazy, I just have 10+ years of tunes on my external and a lot of them didn't get tags back in the day. Plus after that long, uploads, downloads, 4 computers, iTunes (ARGH!!! I HATE ITUNES!!!!!!) renaming and reorganizing have some in a mess. So when I transfer them, they usually all show up unknown, null, or DGOI.mp3. And renaming & tagging 1000s of songs one by one is not how I want to spend a week.
Hope this sparks an idea, or someone can point me in the direction of one that already exists. I'm sure one does for a PC, but I don't use mine for media other than movies. My phone is my music machine. If a PC solution is the only way so be it.
I don't know of an app that can do this but maybe someone could take the method that the app ,"MP3 Download", uses. First you search for a song and can preview then you can choose to download it. Once you have downloaded it you can goto edit tags and it has a download button... I don't know what database it uses or how it is configured but it will give you album art and is usually correct. I think it has to have the album name though.
Thanks! I'll try that on there, and my old iMusic Tao apk I still have.
Mixzing pro can do this

[Q] Photos keep deleting themselves?

my photos have been disappearing into thin air, and yes i've been checking to see if it is actually gone through connecting to the computer... is anyone else having this glitch?
is there anyway to fix?
Same problem. I haven't found answer yet...
If you use a file manager (Root explorer) can you see the files? Make sure you can see hidden files. If a dot is placed infront of the file name then it is hidden and cannot be seen in the gallery. If that is the case, delete the dot as that makes it a hidden file.
Or if a .nomedia file is placed somewhere in the folder, delete it.
Where does this photos came from?
Downloaded from web?
Have you deleted this photos from the download list without changing their name or location?
Try this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=14813409&postcount=9
this used to happen to me when I connected my phone to my PC via USB. my phone ringtones also used to reset. this no longer happens to me when i use gingerbread 2.3.4
i suggest you update if you havent already. also as an extra precaution now, i always backup my photos on Picasa.
I don't think they are deleting, they are just taking a long time to load. This has been discussed many times and the conclusion is that because the CPU is "busy" it takes a long time for the photos to load and if you wait long enough they will appear. I think there is a fix, but I am not sure.

[Q] Monopoly images showing up in gallery, how to remove?

Does anyone here play the Monopoly game by EA? In my device, all of the game assets show up in the gallery and there are a lot of them.
I have gone through putting '.nomedia' files in them, rebooting, cache clearing, force stopping the gallery but nothing works.
Any help will be very much appreciated.
PS Similar thread in the Galaxy Tab area yielded no luck.
You're .nomedia file has a "." at the front?
yup '.nomedia' copied it from the copilot folder whose files do not show up in the gallery so im sure it is the correct system file, zero bytes
clear "media manager" cache after putting .nomedia inside "games" folder, then reboot, it won't work otherwise (i think it's a bug in the media manager)
is Media Manager the same as Media Storage? I dont seem to have Media Manager in my application list
yes sorry i did it few days ago (i had gallery spammed from monopoly too) and didnt remember the name correctly
Thanks Christian Troy, everything seems to be in order now, although on the first reboot nothing but web albums were showing up, now it looks pretty fine, I'll just have to remember to clear the media storage if it happens on another installation. XDA OWNS!
yes because you have to wait till the end of the scan (which can take some time if you have a lot of folders of image / video / music)
that thing made me go crazy... i fixed it the first time clearing all the cache, but few days ago i tried that way and worked
