Hi!
How could I delete HTC default links in windows start menu (footprints, music, etc...)
I've tried to delete them from (\windows\start menu\etc...), but when i reboot the phone they are still there !
Many thanks
no one has the same problem ?
thx
To be honest, they don't bother me in the slightest, but I was just able to delete the HTC messaging link, and it's still not reappeared after 2 resets.
I know that some files will be replaced if they're deleted, but these links don't appear to come under that heading, on my phone at least.
Maybe create a sub-folder in the programs folder and just try moving them to there. It may not recreate them unless they're actually deleted.

Like I said, I'm personally not bothered whether they're there or not, but I've just checked that registry entry, and it's set to 1 but I can delete the links and they don't come back.
Weird.
Edit: I take it back. The only that doesn't get recreated is the one I tried as a test - the messaging one. The other 4 (calendar, music, people & twitter) do come back. Never mind!

Hey there!
I wonder if there's anyway to manually remove an item in the list of installed application on WM6.1? I have a couple of annoying programs there that just won't go away. WM said that the uninstallation couldn't be fully performed in these cases, and asked if I wanted to remove the items from the list. But they are still there. I even made a search and removed all files related to those programs, and I also deleted all references to them in the registry. But they continue to appear on the list. Where the heck are they stored, I wonder? Is it text in a specific file? Suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks
Edit: Sorry if I posted this in the wrong forum, perhaps it should have been at Questions and answers instead...
Did you ever find an answer? Trying to remove Commontime with out resetting the phone. Darn thing locks the phone up when uninstalling.
uninstalling
Heres a solution I have found to get rid of useless programs (real player mainly) found it on the Microsoft social pages
"I have found the solution to the various posts listed on not being able to get rid of an uninstalled prog in the remove progs window. Using MemMaid 2.3 go jump to/databases/database usage, highlight SwMgmtMetadataStore and click browse, highlight offending entry and delete it. Then do and soft reset and you will find that the prog is no longer in the remove prog window. Hope this helps."
hope this works ,i have been search for the the last month to remove get scan life off program launch. i hate that i have to pay for this app, wish their were a free alternative ,wont go into this now, thank you will post my success or failure
Yes, I can confirm that it works!! Thank you VERY much for this post!! What you wrote is very helpful and seems the only way to solve this problem. I have tried searching all through the registry and removing all the keys I found and still - nothing!! It seems that in this, Windows Mobile is very different from its "big brother"
Now give me the retarted programmers who are writing programs, which can't be uninstalled !!! (boxing)
Just one small addition - the entries in the remove programs list disappeared immediately, no soft reset was needed.
THANK YOU ! ! !
Try going to hklm/software/apps and deleting the reg key for the app. I won't guarantee it will work, but that reg key records the install directory. Do a soft reset as well.
Thanks for the above tip, I have done the registry search trying to get rid of an app called point UI and a new theme which has been a stubord s%$& to remove, I got rid of the registry details and the folders and everything after I had done an uninstall (there were bits lefts) despite all this when I go to memaid and look at "installed apps" the folder including a list of empty folders for the theme (not the app itself) have not gone, I can't delete them and I can't find them in toal commander or file explorer, only in memaid and it is unable to shift them and when you click on "explore" it says the files are missing or deleted.
Problem is when I try to re-install everything from scratch it always says the previous version is still there and crashes the install.
I at a total loss on this, I've been waisting my time with it all day with no joy.
Is there anything else I can do to remove the empty folders ??
Many thanks to julioDave (post #3) - the tip was spot-on for solving my problem with a YouTube WVGA app "YouTube_Player_-_WVGA_-_800x480.rar" on my Vodafone TP2, which hadn't uninstalled properly and left an entry "MyLostBlog YouTube" in the Remove Programs list, no matter how many times I tried getting rid of it conventionally. MemMaid 2.3 (fully functioning trial software from DinarSoft), in Advanced Mode, does the job when following julioDave's instructions.
The original source for this solution is http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/windowsmobile/thread/7bad6dc7-d042-4bc2-8516-c9eeaeb5af58.
Removing that database entry can also be carried out using SKTools:
Category > Maintainance > Databases > Highlight "SwMgmtMetadataStore" > Action > View Content > highlight the offending entry > Action > Delete
Since I can't post in the q & a forum I am posting here but mods feel free to move it. So I have a wm6.1 device and a Mac computer and I regularly send files, like cab and music files with out an issue. However, today I noticed that I send a music file like usual and the file is no where to be found on the devices however space about the same size as the file is being taken up. So I send another two files(one music and one cab file) with out an issue at all. Then later on I send a cab file, but I don't see it on the device even though space is being take up. This may have happened prior to this, but I didn't realize it or something. So how can A) regain that space by deleting those files not showing up, or B) find the files that are not showing up and use them as I intended to. I am loosing space because of this. Option of last(and I mean last) resort is a hard rest which I don't like to do. Thank you....

get a good file browser and search for the missing files. You may want to use a wild card search (*.cab,*.mp3)
if you still can not find them look in the folders in /Windows and /Temp or or equivalent on the device
well i am using total commader so I dunno how good that is or not. Not to mention I have done what you suggested and even searched for files added with in the last 3 days and nothing on all fronts but yet the sapce is being taken up by something that I can't seem to find on my device. Memory maid was no help either(granted I only did a clean up). But thank you.
have you tried using the default file explorer?
When I sync a contact with my facebook account, it downloads a picture from facebook (if i choose that). This is a great functionality, however, it overlays a facebook icon in the bottom left of the contact picture. Is there any way to remove the facebook icon?
Since Windows\FBContacts has the picture without the icon, it must be sense that adds them. Also, SPB Mobile Shell doesn't have the icon.
I scoured the registry and found basically nothing:
HKLM\Software\HTC\HTCMsgEnhance\SupportFacebookIcon
and
HKLM\Software\HTC\HTCMsgEnhance\UseContactAgent
I thought disabling this would help, but it doesn't.
Also, sorry if this has been posted somewhere, i searched but hits for facebook were too many.
Thanks in advance.
I'm sad to say that this little icon is hidden somewhere within the Sense Code, not in the registry.
It may be possible to remove it, but I am no HTC Sense Developer, though there are plenty of them here.
I'd suggest PM'ing meltwater, in my personal opinion, and be sure to tell him that I directed you to him.
that's uncool. But thanks for the info.
I'll just pm him with a link too this thread.

Zach is right, it is the sense code which overlays the icon, you can see it happening quite often on the facebook tab.
By the way, the pictures are stored \windows\FBContacts, as it happens working with them at the moment. There's two keys which refer to this location, but interested if they would move the location for fb, not had chance to test.
Back to topic, the overlay will occur in many many places in the sense code, and no reg key is checked in the code (at least not in the sections I've seen) so removing would be a pain. HOWEVER...if you find the icon file used, you can replace it with a totally transparent one and that should do it.
Using the manila kitchen and the m9editor you can browse all the xxxxxxxx_manila files and see all the image files (QTC).
3c71439c_manila icon_facebook_indicator.qtc <-my best guess
66c2d17a_manila icon_facebook_indicator.qtc <-my best guess
5cdf5850_manila facebook_icon_small.qtc <-maybe
0c6d0e94_manila icon_holder.qtc appears to be transparent, might work if you replace the fb icon with that (just copy and rename).
It should work in theory. Have fun!
So, here's a simple solution:
1.) Start Menu
2.) File Explorer
3.) Windows
4.) FBContacts
5.) Copy ALL of the pictures
6.) Paste pictures in another location
7.) Manually set the Contact Pics with the recently moved images
The icon will no longer be visible.
[Yes this is a tedious method, and may take some time to set all of the Contact Pics manually, but hey, the Facebook Icon is gone! ]
Thanks to both of you.
However im not going to use method 2, as it takes way too long.
I'm also new to Cooking, since i got my hd2 a few weeks ago.
Is there a FAQ/Newbies thread i could refer to? Or if not do you think you could post up a 5 minute summary of how to do stuff? i can figure things out pretty quickly but i need some guidelines (is the kitchen a PC app? If so , and i export my ROM, i have to flash it, loosing all my contacts etc?)

Have a look through my tutorials may give you a clue.
But you should just be able to replace the files in your windows dir as mentioned (enable your file manager to see system/hidden files). The manila kitchen and the m9editor are the tools I use to look at the files and to find the icons you needed, so hopefully you won't need to do that now.
EDIT: I'm guessing that worked...
Another facebook icon files
I've found another png files in windows directory, which include facebook icons:
FB_Icon_Ph_L.png
FB_Icon_S.png
These files are marked as Read Only and ROM so I can't change or remove them... Using HD2, ROM Elegancia v9.0 WWE

I'm guessing those files are used by the Microsoft facebook application, sense doesn't often refer to png files directly.
The above files are the most likely ones, since surgency didn't ask for more help, I'm guessing they were the files required.
Does anyone have a list of KF apps that came with the device but you cannot easily remove unless rooted - the original link to Facebook for example? I removed some and can't remember what they were. Think I might have created problems for myself so looking to reinstall them and see if it helps.
Currently rooted. After reading all threads, can't get calendars to sync, programs that place picture frames on home screens not working.
Sounds like a wipe to factory defaults would be in order to get you back to square one. Then, start again. My advice would be that rather than removing these apps, rename .apk to .bak in the same directory, or make a folder on /sdcard and move them there. At least you'll know what you removed/renamed.

Thanks, may have to do that, important lesson learned. I think to get the list I may just break into my daughters Christmas present, fire it up and look for myself!
So in CM9's dev tools under media provider there is a button called insert 20 albums. I innocently hit it trying to see what it did. As expected it made 20 fake albums on my device. However I can't find a way to remove these. Others have said that when they reboot they're gone, but mine stick around. I can't find any files with these names on my device. I also tried adding 20 new ones and rebooting to see if it was just a glitch and they would go away after that, so now I have 40 fake albums on my device. Does anyone know how to get rid of them?
I don't know how that feature works, but have you already tried clearing music app data?
yeah sorry I should have mentioned that. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the player even.
I don't mean to be rude, but I'mbumping this in hopes that someone smarter than me can find it
After posting I decided to try my luck again. I found the media provider databases internal.db and external.db in /data/data/com.android.providers.media/databases
after poking around in them I found reference to the fake albums in the external.db they seem to reference some bogey url instead of a file, so I just deleted the external.db and rebooted. It appears to have repopulated with normal settings afterwards.
Here the case is old, but as still same case here with me. By the way, Thanks for helping!
