I like the Sensation because of its price, battery life, and its ICS ETA
But not sure if today it's the smartest choice when I can afford better CPU and RAM.
Few stuff concerns me...
1. How noticeable is the difference between 768mb/1.2ghz and 1gb/1.5ghz (Amaze/Galaxy S2 T-Mobile) ?
2. Whats about the difference between Sensation's "4G" card and Amaze/G2S's newer cards (42mbps) ?
3. Are there any known issues/bugs with the Sensation 4G right now?
Many thanks!
you have waited this long, might as well wait out a couple of more months and get the new htc one s.
Actually I'm looking for a new phone because mine bricked today, so I don't have time to wait.
i think at this time it would be better off to buy at craiglist unless u want to start a new contract. As info about htc sensation, I think it's a pretty decent phone, but like all android phone you need root to unlock the full potential.
Thanks for the fast replies !
I'm not concern about my contract or future phones on different carriers, my phone died and I really like to get a decent one on T-Mobile today (Monday).
I couldn't find any nice phone on craigslist, or in a reasonable price (usually not less than 80% of tmobile full price).
My dilemma is Sensation 4G (1.2ghz\768mb\14mbps) vs. Amaze\GS2 (1.5ghz\1gb\42mbps)
I'm not sure if those specs are just nicer on the chart or I can really feel the difference in daily use.
And the bottom line is the price tag, if it doesn't worth that, I don't want to pay more for that...
Sensation has a great community n dose the s2 the amaze is only in us also depends if ur rooting as at default the sensation is ment to run at 1.5ghz HTC underclocked it we have nice kernal to give the extra power
xxx best things come to those who wait xxx
thanks,
on stock configurations, are the amaze\sg2 noticeably faster ?
Get it right now. What are youwaitingfor lol

Bear in mind that the 42 vs 14.4 are Max possible speeds, not necessarily what u will actually get. That's influenced more by the towers capabilities and network load around you. I'd get the amaze, its newer, has the better radio in case ur area has the high speed towers, and it has nfc which seems to be coming around now. I'm currently trolling Craigslist for an amaze, but people around here want a lot of cash for them.

!!senseless sensation!!
Get a new HTC One series device!!!!!!!!!!!
For instance the One S. S4-Krait. It'll outperform every other device with a dual-core and sometimes Tegra 3 devices.
With that device, you are safe for about ~2 years.
Honestly I have to say Sensation, just because of the hardcore dev support... We already got a One X ROM (Virtuous S4X) and a tonload more awesome ICS ROMs, so why not? The Amaze is slightly more powerful but you won't see the same great dev support as the Amaze. More dev support stops me from getting jealous when a new phone is out (hence why I got the Sensation, the MT4G dev community is really slowing down). As for the GSII.. Eh. Not too sure about it. I honestly dislike the T-Mobile variant of the GSII because of the hardware differences and the screwed up screen. The T-Mobile Sensation is the exact same as the international, aside from the radios and T-Mobile logo.
I just left the gs2 to come back to the sensation. The gs2 is great in terms of battery and reception. Only reason I went back is because of the dev support for this phone. All the roms for the gs2 T-Mobile are the same all stock based touchwiz roms

If T-Mobile is good around your area, go Sensation. If not, go Thunderbolt. Like someone else said, the only pro over the Sensation the Thunderbolt has is Verizon's reliable network and LTE.

No such thing as future proof...Just saying.
It's probably going to be down to what network you want more than anything. I don't have a choice. I'm on VZW no matter what really.
I thought the sensation was europe only. Its going ton be sold in US?
Well in my area the choice comes down to network. Maybe the specs on the sensation are better, but the reliable 3g and LTE on Verizon would make it a no trainer. However if I was in a better T-Mobile area and I wanted to wait then maybe the sensation.

Where I live, T-mobile is the only mobile provider that still runs only on Edge... And the cell reception once you leave the city I'm in is spotty just about everywhere... Although the Sensation will be a smoking device... There's a reason why all the truck drivers in these parts don't have T-mobile phones... Keep that in mind...

Here's my take...
I needed a phone now... Thunderbolt was the best Verizon had at the time...
When my upgrade is ready there will be a device better than both, and possibly more support in Android for the "newer" technology.
If I traveled away from Hawaii I would more than likely never pick up T-Mobile. Verizon gives the best overall coverage, and honestly the price isn't as drastic people make it out to be. The difference for me is $10 (Verizon gives me nearly 15% more on my discount).
So I will take what fits your wants when you need to get a new device. For me it was the thunderbolt, but chances are in a few months all the current Android devices would be considered "outdated" even though they really are not.
1. There will always be something that comes out that is BETTER. You can only get what you can when you can get it. You can't always wait for the next best thing b/c you won't ever get a phone with that mentality.
2. HTC Sensation has one of the best specs right now.
3. HTC probably sucks at locking the bootloader so HOPEFULLY you can root it.
4. Dual-core is a great concept and will help with battery life, but Android isn't optimized to take advantage of dual-core just yet so its not that big of a deal [yet].
5. Anecdote: I once chose a phone over a network. Never again. Plus things will get ported over anyways.
Last generation phones are sometime better, as well. I for one am a flash junkie, and looking at all of the mods roms and themes for older devices like the EVO I feel a bit jealous. However , by the time the Sensation is released, the Thunderbolt will have a ton of mods and roms for it. By the time the development gains momentum for the Sensation, there will be another better and newer phone coming out. You have to make the choice which you like better. All in all, I wanted an EVO with the guts of a MT4G and the network that only Verizon offers here in the US... the Thunderbolt is the phone I've been looking for

I have the G2x and the Sensation and while they both have tremendous potential they both have multiple issues. I would wait for Hercules as I am going to sell one of the two or both and purchase the Hercules.
buy or wait?
There will always be a newer/better phone that will be out within 3 days, 3 weeks, 3 months of buying your next phone. You have to ask yourself a different question, which phone will have the features I need and will really use? If you are simply holding out for the best phone right now you will be disappointed and frustrated and not fully happy with your next purchase. I love the Sensation. I waited for months to get it and I am happy with my purchase. I have always rooted my android phones to use unavailable features on stock phones like; the wifi tethering with my laptop and tab. This is already built in and available the moment you buy it. ATT and Sprint and Verizon charge for this feature. BOOOOO! Good for T-Mo while it lasts. The phone is responsive, comes loaded with useful apps and widgets, it's sexy and fun to play with I have Netflix working on it (so do many others, I did not invent the wheel), hbo-go, and other streaming apps that work great on the sensation. The camera is decent enough for me not to carry a dedicated camera for photos and videos. For me, I use multimedia daily, and this phone meets my needs. I was buying every new phone that came out and was never satisfied. The sensation is a good buy, the hercules will be out in the next 2-3 months and by then there will be another phone with even better specs that will leave you drooling. I am sure it will be a great phone too.
I was really excited about the announcement of the Hercules and besides the GPS problem, I loved my Vibrant(wife has it now). But IMO, as nice as Sammys designs are(I don't like the design of the Sensation) they make the bezel too big.
My sensation is just as big as my Vibrant even though it has a 4.3 inch screen. I've always hated the added real estate which is why I chose the Sensation over the gx2. If the infuse is any idication of how big the Hercs going to be, I might pass on it and see what comes out next year. Besides, I love the weight of my HTC. I hated how light my Vibrant was even though that thing was literally indestructable.
First off ask yourself the question cause only you can decide ,if you like bland vanilla and super amolded screens then go with Samsung, if you like widgets and eye candy then sensation is the one ....all phones with this much horsepower have issues and I mean all ,once bootloader is unlocked on sensation you'll have the speed to go with the looks ,and if you're not interested in flashing then you still got a great device , but like mentioned earlier after the Hercules there will be something better 3 months later ,it will never end
simply put:
4.3" qHD >>>> 4.5" WVGA
So far all of the information leaked about the Hercules shows that its not using the exynos soc. Just some food for though. The waiting game does suck though because something better will come out after the Hercules. That's just the way it is.

Yep, it's rumored to be using the APQ8060, which is the same as the MSM8260 without the integrated HSPA radio. This is probably because the Hercules will have 42 Mbps HSPA+ connectivity and it will need a separate radio for this and that the Exynos SoC is already in limited quantity (some SGS II variants will have the Tegra 2).

Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA App
The killer feature on the Hercules is that 42mbps speed. The usb radios that are out are getting speeds that rival Verizon's LTE.
On the down side (for me) is that with a 4.5 inch screen and that Samsung bezel it is going to be a huge phone - nudging into small tablet territory. Battery life will also be tricky.
At the moment I'm not willing to trade a great svelte HTC design for a faster Sammy slab. But we'll see when it comes out.
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA Premium App
Given some of the deals we've seen for the Sensation... I'd definitely lean in that direction. 4.5" is pushing it for me, and the qHD is nicer than I originally thought it would be.
I hope there will be good support from the community with custom Roms.. How are the chances for that to happen?
The Sensation is like the Desire... huge Dev support
It is a great Phone and there will be as much People like in the Desire section ... so much support from the DevĀ“s
The Sensation is just great! I would never take a samsung instead of an HTC.... Sense is too great and the bigger Resolution is so nice! You feel it very much and movies are just wow on this phone! And the Sound! Great!
Just a Multimedia Talent..... I would not wait if i am able to use this phone! I will never miss something like this phone!
Just great! There are little mistakes but Touch Wiz ist just crap!

Although it will technically be capable of those speeds, I doubt it will come anywhere near those speeds. The sensation should be able to hit 11Mbs theoretically but the fastest i've had it download was 7.9Mbs. I'm sure the Hercules will be closer to 11Mbs speeds in real world.

They just updated half their Android line up to 2.3.4 in the past two months. They've updated the SGS2 four times and a fifth update to 2.3.4 is due out by the end of the month. There's a difference between getting updates directly from Samsung and having to be dependent on your U.S. carrier to get them out. The global Sensation's are being updated now. Let's see how long it takes T-Mobile to push the U.S. update.

It should get 20 mbps with ease if you're in an area that supports that connectivity. T-Mobile demonstrated those type of speeds using a data stick.
soon there will be a samsung amoled hd screen soon and thats my new phone.
I'm with tmobile with a rooted, unlocked, running CM7 nexus one.
I love it and have no issues with it, other then me needed to reboot it because of screen issues one a week/month.
Recently tmobile blocked off tzones on the n1. I see this as a chance to upgrade. Somewhat stuck to AWS bands and non tmobile branded phones. 2 strong competitors i found. Price difference and specs.
I'm looking at S710e (incredible S) and the Z710e (Sensation 4g). Z710e cost about $80-100 more then the S710e.
While i was 100% happy with my nexus one. Did what i wanted to do and average battery life, 3g speeds. I like the idea of a possible faster phone, and 4g speeds. Z710e is a dual core so it might be better battery life.
What would be a better upgrade for me? While i dont mind the price difference, i just wanted to know is one phone superior over the other.
Back in the day my mytouch3g was junk compared to the nexus one upgrade. So i'm thinking maybe the s710 is junk VS the Z710e, but not sure if $100 worth it.
Z710e is newer, should be more popular. Both are on CM's list of hackable phones. Let me know what you guy thinks and reason why you want to get one VS the other.
From personal experience, having owned both:
The Senation is newer, has a higher-resolution screen, more memory and a slightly better camera. It also has beefier internals and a slightly larger battery. I found the software experience a bit lacking, although there is loads of development for it now with some exceptional ROMs available.
The Incredible S is slightly smaller, with a less pixel-dense (but brighter and better in sunlight) screen and slower internals. I preferred the soft-touch painted finish of the Incredible S to that of the Sensation. While there isn't a lot of development for it, I found the 'stock' software experience much more pleasant on the Inc S. The camera is also ever-so-slightly superior to that on the Senny.
Don't base your decision solely on my judgement, I own quite a few phones though and good ones stick in my mind. The Incredible S is among my favourite HTC devices. There are many people who, conversely, swear by their Sensation.
Try them both out in the flesh if you can, although you may struggle to find an Inc S on display. Also ensure the Z710E supports AWS, I know it does 900/2100 but not sure about 1700.
If on-paper specs are your thing, the Sensation is obviously the better choice.
Best of luck with the decision

I'm still using my N1 and wouldn't part with it, even for a free GN. I recently changed from CM7 to MIUI.us and it's given the old chap a new lease of life. It feels like a new device. It's prettier, faster and i haven't had one Touchscreen wonk with it yet. Why not try it yourself?

I think I will vote for S710e (incredible S), because I now have one, and I like him very much, CM7'S rom, or others that are working well and stable
Z710e (Sensation 4g) with dual-core, but I'm not sure that a very large difference, because S710e also smooth running and lower the price to have him.
Of course, if you do not mind the price difference, I think you can choose Z710e to enjoy the larger screen.
i overlooked the most common sense upgrade, galaxy nexus.
prices i can get the phones for are
s710e = 350-$375
z710e = $450-480
Galaxy= $560-590
I'm not looking to go with other roms on my N1. Remember if it wasn't for my carrier blocking my internet, i would never even consider an upgrade. I was 90% happy with my n1. Screen issues that was resolved with me rebooting was about the only issue. I love my trackball. I used the nexus S at launch and gave that back.
The cheapest upgrade would be that incredible, gets me 4g speeds. I like that. I do want a galaxy but maybe at a $400 price point.
Hi Sensation users...
I've done a search and haven't found an answer to this question.
Would it be worth it to "upgrade" from a Sensation to the One S? I know the one s is faster with the new chip but how much better overall could it be?
Also with the screen being Pentile? I've read some people say its ok but others not so. Also i haven't been able to find a comparison of the One S to the Sensation screen?
Any thoughts?
Cheers
The OneS is a decent phone, it features Sense4.
IMO its market similar to the NexusS was, in that its the flagship carrier of something new. NexusS has ICS 4.0.3. Its got basically everything that trumps all other phones. 1080pHD Video, Beats (which some might consider bad but its louder than most AOSP), quad core i beleive?
It certainly is a "all rounder" phone. As my contract with Optus is expiring too (aus) im probably going to go for it. My android enthusiast friend enjoys it very much so.
I am definitely NOT going to upgrade to the one S. In my mind it's only an incremental upgrade from the sensation in most ways, and in some it's a step backward. It's a great phone if you want something like an Iphone, but I just can't see getting a phone with only 16 gb's of storage and no removable battery. PLUS the screen isn't any different, same size AND resolution.
Don't get me wrong, the OneS is a good phone but if you've already got a sensation IMO it's not worth the upgrade. And to answer d2 above, it's only a dual core, not quad.

Haaaa, my OneS friend is a Liar! We have benchmark competitions with our androids for no reason, and he claimed that his "cpu cores" made the difference.
I agree with the notion that its an incremental upgrade. If you are buying JUST for sense4, you can have a ported rom version which works (almost) just as good on your sensation.
thanks for replies... what about the screen? do you think the pentile is that much worse than the S-LCD?
I'm not too concerned about the storage as i currently have 8gb which i don't even use up. But not being able to remove the battery is a little bit of a concern as i want to root etc... and concerned if something goes wrong how do i force a shutdown like taking out the battery?
Id wait it out another year the sensation still rocks especially with CM9 or ASAP, just think of what the next batch of phones will have instore, also heard battery life sucks on the ONE as well :-/
The CPU-Upgrade is quite noticeable. It may "just" be a dual core, but it is almost on par with the quad core of the one x. Due to the lower resolution faster in those testing with the native resolution of the device.
Screenwise... Can't say. Looked not much different than the one in the sensation. But they closed the gap between screen and digitizer, so the viewing angles are better.
Overall great phone. But I would not upgrade, since my sensation fulfills the demands I have for a smartphone.

personally my size limit is 4.3" that's why i wouldn't go to the One X. From the leaks i believe the SG3 will be 4.6 or 4.7? like the galaxy nexus? so it automatically rules it out for me.
my biggest concern in the battery life and screen on the one s. but all the reviews have said its super fast...
hmmm
Plus when you go to a "PENTILE" display from Sensation display you will see pixels. its ugly. Once you see it you cant unsee it. Its like the Droid Razr screen. Awful. origianl super amoleds suck really bad. You either need to go with super lcd 2 or Super Amoled Plus HD(hopefully galaxy III)
If I were you I would not, camera and speed is already decent on the sensation. SAMOLED is better but not enough to justify an upgrade. It does have sense 4 and ICS but you may as well wait until the next HTC flagship device to come out.
That being said I am getting the HTC One S because I'm coming over from iPhone and Sense 4 + ICS is a great way for me to get started.
I just got the T-mobile US Sensation but the One S will be out within my 30-day exchange window. I got the Sensation for free on contract. If the One S is ~$100-125 on sale anywhere, I might trade up. I can't really justify an additional $200+ for it...
Yeah I just got a sensation at a pretty good price outright new so pretty happy about that.
My contract has expired so I was thinking about getting the One S on a new contract. I could sell either one if i wasn't happy with the One S.
Thats the only reason I haven't put OrDroid on it yet although i have been using CM7 and CM9 and am very happy with them too!
I've found in stock the sensation is a little slow and i've been getting FC more times than i would like so far and its all stock.

did you guys get the sensation for free through t-mobile loyalty? I'm about to upgrade in a a few months. I'm thinking of getting the Sensation or the One S depending on the price. If they offer the Sensation for free and the One S for $150, I'll probably go for the Sensation. The main advantages of the Sensation that appeal to me are the removable battery, expansion, wifi hotspot, and potentially price. I don't see why people would upgrade to a One S if they just got the Sensation since they wouldn't be fully eligible to upgrade anyway so it wouldn't be worth it...unless they are buying it unlocked.

I got it free from Costco. Both T-mobile and Costco have the HTC Amaze for free now too. Kind of like an upgraded Sensation, but a bit bulkier. Development for it is picking up, but at the price of free it is also a great alternative to the One S.

Nah mate i'm in australia and someone got one as a gift and posted it up for cheap so i snapped it up
Haven' done anything to it yet but scouring around the dev forums to see which one i like. I am wanting to go with One S software like the OrDroid as it seems to be getting more stable. only a few niggling issues left and the fact that you can run the Sensation at 1.5Ghz is a bonus oh and the removable battery etc...
Definitely not
Can't replace the battery, no SD card extension and soon we will have a fully working sense 4.0 for the sensation which is already OC to 1.5 and up.
I'd upgrade to the One X at least it has a serious hardware upgrade.
I'll probably "upgrade" to a One S. I am really liking how thin it is and I do miss having an AMOLED display. But I'll actually decide once I get to feel and use one in my hands.
I was taking a close look at the One S specs today. It really doesn't look like much an upgrade over the Sensation at all. Same chipset family - 28nm manufacturing instead of 45nm, so it will allow a slightly higher clock speed. Benchmarks don't put it any faster out of the box the what we are getting already.
The only real difference is the dedicated imaging chip. Other than that, it is pretty much just a Sensation that ships with ICS & Sense 4.0. - one that you can't even upgrade storage or battery. Those 2 things are huge to me and the primary reason I stay away from Apple products.
It's marginal upgrade at best. Really quite disappointing.
Ok, so I have had a spot on the screen of my Sensation 4G for a while where the pixles just aren't right, the coloring is off, etc. I also haven't been overly excited with the low volume from the phone (during calls, ringing, etc). I have played with S-Off, root, custom ROMs, Kernels, etc and I'm thinking I might want to just try something else all together, but I'm not sure.
I decided to see about getting a warranty exchange, and my carrier has said they don't have any Sensation 4Gs, but they can give me a Galaxy S (the original I'm sure) or a MyTouch 4g (I don't want this one) as a replacement for my Sensation. I'm not completely sold on either one. I asked about getting another device and paying the difference between the replacement value and retail and was told I can not do that. Since I don't really want either of those phones, I called HTC directly. Although they are able to warranty repair my phone, I would have to do without a phone completely for the time they have it since I have no spare phone (I donate my old phones).
I'm thinking about just buying a used device in the classifieds since I'm not eligible for an upgrade, then doing the warranty on mine and selling it. So, if you had to get a new phone in the market now, which one would you be looking at? The specs of the Amaze have me intrigued, but honestly, I stopped following the new phones after I decided on the Sensation 4G so I can't say what the Galaxy line is like, the new One S, etc. Or, would you just find a loaner phone, warranty the Sensation, and stick with it for the next year or so until the upgrade eligibility rolls around again?
Any input would be great, thanks in advance!
I would just get a cheap phone to use while your Sensation having the warranty work done on it. I had to send my Sensation into HTC because of dust under the screen. And my Sensation was only gone like 4 days, so I doubt you will be without your Sensation very long at all. Plus to be honest with you unless you upgrade to a device with a quad core processor, NFC capabilities, and a bigger screen with higher resolution screen you are not gaining anything by changing devices. That is just my opinion.
Well, the Amaze has a better front facing camera and NFC, it's native as a dual core 1.5 GHz (mine is clocked to that anyway), but I think the screens are about the same. That's mainly why it caught my eye actually
There's no phones that are really an even trade for the Sensation. The MyTouch4G would be a downgrade. The next level up would be an Amaze or SGSII.
The closest would be the MyTouch4G Slide, but that has a smaller screen.
Why not Galaxy S 3? It's one of the few phones which matched the pre-release hype. Also the samsung note is a cool phone if you are ok with it's size.
Sorry HTC, I won't touch your phones after my sensation experience.

I probably won't be going with HTC after this either, but tmous SGS3 leaves a bit to be desired if what I've read is true. For one, it won't be compatible tmous' upcoming LTE because of the spectrum tmous is planning to use. Another thing is that it will be significantly more expensive than the other carriers' SGS3, which is lame. The last and most disappointing thing for me is that it still uses the dualcore S4 Snapdragon processor instead of the quadcore Exynos that the Euro SGS3 gets. Boooo!
Sorry to get off topic there. Sensation is a decent phone for what it is, so personally I'm going to just wait out my contract. I can't see anything out right nite in the US market that would make me pull out the wallet.
Trade for whatever, sell it bnib, and then get a galaxy nexus for $350 from google play store.... Done.
