[Q] Backup Custom ROM? - Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have an HTC Arrive recently HSPL'd and flashed a custom ROM, I wanted to know if there is a way to back up my phone with the Custom ROM on it completely? All the techniques I'm finding for full backup seem to have warnings about custom ROMS. If there isn't a full backup available is there one to backup all my apps/data at least?

The same thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1513391

maybe is this a solution for you.

I couldn't get this App to work since it only works with zune 4.7. Which does an entire backup including music and pictures and such, which just wastes extra space since those files are already backed up on my computer. The newer zune software only backs up information that isn't stored on the computer (Apps, settings etc..)

you have to change the ZuneWmdu.DLL in your Zune Folder on Computer.
Make a copy of your existing ZuneWmdu.DLL and change it with this one.

You will be able to backup via Zune when the time comes. The process will be the same for all devices.
Ok, so wait and see...

AFAIK Zune will only backup your DATA (hopefully including list of installed apps and configuration), but NOT your ROM.

What is your ROM when you've reflashed firmware and restored data and applications?
Unsupported reg changes and a few settings maybe? But its likely the settings will also be backed up.

It's what I'm thinking, so because I see programs to change ROM of your phone I think that a program to backup ROM must exists.

[HELP] Did I lose my backup?

When I created my backup I moved it to a different location. Today I wanted to restore that. So I opened the %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\Windows Phone Update% location and nothing was there, folder was empty. So I moved the folder [cryptic file name] containing the backup to that location. I opened zune and checked the folder and my backup was gone. Now there is a new cryptic folder there that is around 300 kb. What happened to my 8GB backup that i put there?
You should copy the backup file (that is copy, not move it) into the "windows phone update" folder AFTER you connect the phone and Zune syncs, then check for update to get to the backup restore option in Zune.
1. Connect phone, let Zune launch and sync
2. Copy files into the "windows phone update" folder
3. Go through the check for updates to get to the backup restore option in Zune.

I lost my premango backup... that info does not pretain to my problem lol. Did I lose that backup?
Well, if you moved the backed-up backup and don't copy it and then Zune ate it when it tried to sync the phone, yes you lost it. That's how my response did pertain to your problem.. you should have copied the backup files, not move them. If you copied them over, you'd still have it in the alternate backup location and you wouldn't be asking if your backup is lost. If you'd have copied the files after Zune synced with your phone, it wouldn't have eaten your backup files when it started up.

Are you shure you check in the correct folder ???
the correct one is C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Phone Update
Yah I am in the right place. I had that folder open when I launched Zune and literally watched it disappear.
What is my next move? Are there any roms that Zune will recognize as official and give me updates trough Zune?
Well, you've never stated what your phone is, but if you check the device specific forum, you will likely be able to find a stock ROM and instructions for how to flash.

I am using an hd7 from tmobile. I know I can find a ROM but is Zune going to recognize it as official and allow me to update through Zune?
If it's a truly stock ROM, yes, hacked ROM, idk as I don't do hacked ROMs

This is the link with the rom's for my mobile hd7.
Is this a stock rom? Or is this a hacked rom?

Did you check your Recycle Bin by chance just in case a version is there? Just a thought

[Q] I have a Stock ROM backup. What should I do with it?

I thought when I first flashed a custom ROM that it might useful to keep a backup of stock.
But right now this backup bogging down my sd card. Will it still work if I copy the folder with the backup in my computer and use it afterwards? Or should I delete it and use the method described in these threads to bring it back to stock if I need to?
As long as you do not change the name of the backup folder you should be ok copying it over and moving it back if you need it.
Recommend using a cable to copy it instead of wifi. Any slight change or corruption will change the md5 sum and the backup will fall to restore.

Yes you won't have any problems, just store it on your PC.
In fact I leave all my backups just in case something goes wrong.

I agree with the others, you can keep the Backup on the PC.
However, I do not find the need of it even after Reverting back to Stock (with the methods in the threads). Since, on using the RUU , the phone is just like a factory fresh phone ! U need to set everything up again (& since u r Unrooted & S-ON , u can't Restore the stock Backup as well).
{Contacts / Calendar can be synced via Google Contacts / Calendar &
SMS's can be backed up / Restored via the Inbuilt Backup & Restore of many 3rd Party Messaging Apps (e.g. Go SMS Pro) }
Well, I'd like to thank you all for your answers, I will store the backup on my pc because my opinion is that I might need it(you never know)

[Q] Backup and Restore??

Is there an app out there that will let you backup all data, including apps, from one phone, then restore them, at a later time, to a new phone?

Best app of this kind is Titanium Backup. But that will work best, if the android versions are the same. All apps must be fully compatible with the new android version. Android Settings can't be transfered to another phone in that way. Personal data e.g. photos and so on must be copied manually.

[Completed] Helium backup app will be the end of me (and plenty others from the sounds of it)

Hello all on xda forums. I am new here and need some help restoring my phone. I was rooted on 4.2 Kitkat and decided to upgrade to 5.0 lolipop on my Galaxy S4 Active (GT-I9295). I made the mistake of using helium to backup my apps and now can not restore my apps. When I look in the app folders on my PC there are no files in the folders which makes it impossible to use the server client. I backed up the full app on helium so I would assume that there would be some files there. I've heard some people say that you have to re-install all of your apps and then restore the data. I have really slow internet and would like to avoid this method if possible. Let me know if you need more information. (Cant upload images since I'm new here sorry about that)

Something just happened and I can see my app files........I'm never using helium again. Apparently you need to download an app in order for all the data to show up? (If you cant tell, I have no clue what is going on)

I GOT IT! So apparently you need to download an app that you used to have and back up the fresh download in order for your old app data to show up. I had my old carbon folder stored on my SD card (Make sure you also back it up to your PC) when I downloaded the app onto my phone. So glad it works!
