You will be able to backup via Zune when the time comes. The process will be the same for all devices.

Ok, so wait and see...

AFAIK Zune will only backup your DATA (hopefully including list of installed apps and configuration), but NOT your ROM.

What is your ROM when you've reflashed firmware and restored data and applications?
Unsupported reg changes and a few settings maybe? But its likely the settings will also be backed up.

It's what I'm thinking, so because I see programs to change ROM of your phone I think that a program to backup ROM must exists.

Has anyone gotten Titanium Backup to restore apps from 2.2?

None of the processing modes work for me, and I get "parse error" when using the interactive mode. Any ideas?
i was able to restore succesfully
Hmm. Maybe it's because I downloaded straight from my Dropbox. I'll try directly copying the files.
Edit: That did the trick.
Any ideas why I might be getting a problem where I select an App, it says 'What would you like to restore?' and there are no buttons underneath to select App or Data?
Hi all,
Yes it should work with 2.3, I've already got positive reports, including a couple from G themselves
Parse error means an apk backup is corrupted. I'll do some additional tests on the Dropbox download code, since it might be related.
Thanks!

This happens when you have a data-only backup, and you can't restore it because the app is not installed anymore. The typical case is system apps that are gone in your new Rom.
Okay, it looks like I backed them up wrong I guess. Will have another go, thanks.
I tried again, still not working...
Each app has 3 files in the folder. Some apps I can install from the market and then re-apply the data, but others wont (K-9 Mail for example)
Any ideas?
This is very strange, you should definitely be able to restore the data from any backup, as long as the corresponding app is installed...

Indeed, there was a serious problem with the Dropbox download code. That's the last time I'm taking Dropbox's sample code for granted. It's fixed in 3.6.5 (and the problem existed only for *downloading*, not for uploading).
Thanks !
I can restore app data if I manually install the app first. I used to be able to batch backup all my apps and then batch restore them all. Why can't I from 2.2 to 2.3?

Probably something wrong with your source, in this case, the apps and data. I've had no issue at all besides updating busybox when I first launched the app. I just transfered the TB folder from my computer to the phone and did a restore, everything worked fine.

Thanks for the awesome quick fix! Just another reason why Titanium Backup is one of my most loved apps!

I've tried two backups now both the same problem.
Market busybox is 1.17, so I installed it (and ran it), but in TB it still says 1.16?

Am having difficulties too. Restoring from a Desire (Leedroid 2.2f) to a nice new Desire HD (Leedroid 1.51). Have even tried to restore from the original SD card, but Titanium on the HD never sees / recognises the backup made on the desire. And yes, the backup folders in titanium are set to the same name and path (default). The Titanium app versions are different - The newest version is on the HD and I understand that it is meant to support backups from previous versions. I can see all the backup files in the backup folder too. Any ideas or advice would be appreciated.

Wouldn't that be 300 minutes at 1 per minute...?
I think it's 0.1 mins/app, or about 6 seconds each based on your time and apps.
i do suck at match
i'll die without a piece of Tech with me
i used to remember the whole multiplication table up to 12x12, and come up with the answer immediately
but now it takes me a while to even think the answer for 3x7 LOL

Should I try it via dropbox - Would it make any difference?
Am not using the same gmail address for the new phone - Does Titanium try and be very clever and link the backup to a user or a specific device?

the purchased apps are linked to specific gmail accounts

[Q] Backup Custom ROM?

I have an HTC Arrive recently HSPL'd and flashed a custom ROM, I wanted to know if there is a way to back up my phone with the Custom ROM on it completely? All the techniques I'm finding for full backup seem to have warnings about custom ROMS. If there isn't a full backup available is there one to backup all my apps/data at least?

I couldn't get this App to work since it only works with zune 4.7. Which does an entire backup including music and pictures and such, which just wastes extra space since those files are already backed up on my computer. The newer zune software only backs up information that isn't stored on the computer (Apps, settings etc..)

you have to change the ZuneWmdu.DLL in your Zune Folder on Computer.
Make a copy of your existing ZuneWmdu.DLL and change it with this one.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18069801&postcount=611
i had also zune 4.8, but with change of ZuneWmdu.DLL in programmfolder the backup will work.
I try to back up and I had success I get stuck on the home screen and tube to re-install the ROM ansar
and if i want load a rom (full) from my friend how i can do?
You can't ludede, backup is specific to a device.

[Q] Is it possible to backup settings and data before custom rom?

Good morning to everyone.
I have a stock One S, but now the S-off is possible, I would like to install a custom rom.
My question is: after rooting the phone and before installing the custom rom, is there a way to save\backup all the settings\achievements of the apps and system programs that I used in these 6 months?
Thanks in advance

Yes it is possible. I used an app called Carbon (free in Play Store) to backup my apps and their data. Carbon also has a feature to backup sms and call log but for me it messed up received times and dates of my messages. So use some other app to backup those... That might have been fixed in newer versions though. Be careful with system app backups especially if you plan to go to an AOSP based rom. They might cause problems in your new rom.

Titanium Backup as well. Not easy for newbies, but choose backup -> backup all systemdata, then uncheck all and check those with the titanium icon. A backup of data/app with all your apps and settings is a standard function of titanium.
You can see an example on the attached pic.
Keep in mind that unlocking bootloader erases all your apps and their data (mass storage stays untouched). So your data will be erased before you can root your phone. Carbon works on stock unrooted phones as well as it's basically the same as doing an adb backup from your pc. Titanium is way better when you get your phone rooted...

I don't know what an AOSP based rom is, but I wanted to try the ViperOnesS because I don't want to lose the Sense.
With my previous Nokia I was used to backup everything[/U ]with a simple click, using the Nokia Pc Suite.
With this Carbon app do you think I'll be able to do the same thing?
Thanks guys.
So I have to download Carbon and save all the system settings?
I have some applications on the phone memory, and others in the internal storage. Is it a problem?

Carbon let's you select the apps that you want to backup. And I believe it also has an option to select everything at once... When you have your custom rom up and running you can then either restore everything from the backup or restore only the apps that you want. Apps being in phone/internal memory shouldn't matter.

Yes. When you flash a new rom it is usually required to do a factory reset (meaning erase your personal apps and data). That's where backup apps come in handy. When in custom rom, install the backup app (Carbon or Titanium) and it will see backups of your apps and let's you restore them.

Yes, but its advised to not restore system data due differences in frameworks, etc.

You don't need one. Just connect your phone in MTP mode (or whatever your device calls it) and use the standard Windows Explorer. To backup an Android device you need a custom Recovery installed so you can take a Nandroid backup.

Search and read mate. You have a lot of learning to do if you don't know what that means, so you should start now.
I think his asking for something like Samsung Kies. I am also looking for a desktop application similar to KIES because once u flash a custom ROM you cannot use Kies anymore

Exactly I am asking for the application like kies. And the backup manager to backup my entire android system not just apps and settings without getting into rooting
Google "android commander." I think it needs root though.
Any other suggestion for the backup program that dont require root and create the system image of my android device??

Seeing as you haven't even bothered to mention at any time what device you have, it would be fairly pointless for anyone to try suggesting that. Any application like you are looking for will be hardware specific.
You can't backup apps and app data if your phone is not rooted. Take a look at My Backup Pro from Play store to view the list of items that can be backup with root and without root. I recommend Titanium Backup if your phone is rooted.

Incorrect. Samsung KIES does not require root access to carry out a backup. It's also possible to back up non-rooted with Helium, although I haven't used it so am not sure how simple it is.

Question Question-Help || Backup phone to pc for downgrade

Hello all!
Hope that's the right place to post that question
i want to downgrade my phone from android 12 to android 11 (Asus rog phone 5) because it's very unstable.
i read on the google site that the google auto-backup doesn't support downgrading, so i need a recommendation for software from someone who downgraded his/her phone to a lower version and managed to restore it later on.
Also is this process dangerous? I read the manuals on Asus official site which just talks about backup the phone, then downloading some file from the site restarting the phone and it should install it alone.
Thanks in advance for helping!

As a thumb rule, it is always risky to restore a backup of settings between versions, especially when downgrading.

If I were you, I would not backup anything and install everything manually and configure. Whatever you do, please do not back up Android 12's settings and restore them in Android 11.
Third party apps can be backed up using Titanium Backup or some similar backup tools. While restoring them, go by one app at a time so that you will know which app's backup caused issues and you can avoid restoring that app the next time.

Do a manual backup of all your personal stuff. Downgrade (A12 > A11 is really an 'upgrade' ). Then do a clean A11 setup and transfer your files over. Old school but the most solid way...

i guess i will make a combination to both
backup some apps with titanium backup (other will be downloaded normally after downgrade)
backup files from files manager through local backup connected to pc
will not backup any setting (maybe will screenshot to restore them manually)
will disconnect google from the phone
download the android 12 to android 11 from the asus site
and hope that anything that was ****ed will be normal again.
will let you know later how it went.
thanks guys.

Any recommendation for backup app for applications that doesn't require root?
If you mean that you are unrooted, then the options are limited. Certain backups require root. ADB backup & restore can also be used.
You can check up this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/need-recommendation-for-a-backup-restore-app-no-root.4401711/ and search in Google.

Please explain what is adb backup? Is that an app or a method?
Can't find a correct reference to said name

It is a method to backup and restore using adb commands. It is partially explained in the link that I provided. You can also google adb commands to learn further.
Hi!
I just noticed that there is an official way to do this. Look for the 'Version Android 12 to Android 11' on the official asus page:

I found it while looking for an update. But also I look around here at xda to see if there is something relevant on the ROG 5.
Hope it helps
