TPC v3 Extend Power Menu Problem (Reboots only) - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

I'm sure besides myself there are a more than a few people in this forum using tpc v3 but with a different kernel (i.e. faux). I wanted the additional cpu states this kernel provides for better scaling. The problem was that when I flashed this kernel onto the rom all the options in the power menu, including power off, download, and recovery all simply reset the device.
I narrowed the problem down to the init.qcom.post_boot file, located under /system/etc. It seems that after you flash a new kernel it comes with this file included, and a setting in there prevents the phone from using the menu properly. Once i extracted the original one from the one included in the rom and replaced it, it functioned properly.
Just thought i'd give my solution to anyone else wondering why there menu wasn't working anymore :-D

Thnks for the tip. People will appreciate this. But u should consider reading xda rules. Unless you cook something u shouldn't be posting it on dev forum.
Rocketing on Sky Ics¡

Maybe a small thank you and telling him nicely he should have post in another forum would have been enough

even though my account is a year old, I'm a new member who only recently started posting. I read the rules and assumed since this was a "fix to a known bug," it went here, but I didn't read further to note that this only applies to devs. If a mod could please move this to general it would be appreciated.

why can't ppl be like iceknight such as what was said and he understood and matter resolved i'd honestly love to see people like you here . you know why because you think logically also and help community too. thank you and really good job bud. but yah appdroid and ppl like myself just make 1 understand rather then getting infraction or getting banned its just rules and we don't break it either and we help our community like that. thats all and it goes to anyone please don't take each other for enemies cause we're not. one <3 . one world .

Hey thnx for making my point clear. And to OP ppl like myself and wali01x are here to help you guys!

Thanks for the suggestion icenight89
nevertheless, this is not android development, moving to the General Froums where it should be.
Thanks again.

so how would I go about pulling the original back out ? or would you be able to post the file ? let me know what you think, and thanks for the heads up I didn't get a change to try anything on the power menu, i just installed flux and was away from my phone for a bit, I came back and it had SOD, so I just went back to a older Da_G kernel I had been using since Nov 2011.

Mods have a life and are volunteers, and as such just can't police the forum constantly. I would recommend that you don't browse the forum on the weekend if you don't want to see so many noob posts. Seems like they come out in force on the weekends, and usually the mods are off trying to have a weekend. These things have been said 1000 times before. It is frustrating, i know that of course, but these posts really have little value. If you don't have anything to actually contribute through the posts then it's best if we just don't say anything.
@ OP
Questions like this should be posted in an preexisting thread, either the rom you are using, or wherever you got your themes from, there could even be a thread on the topic already...i have not looked, but doing so helps to reduce the clutter. Plus it's a forum rule.

[Req][Port]Doctorz Rom XXJVT

Hay guys it Dr.Ali here i know this is not a right place to post this thread but i need someone who can port the our Doctorz Rom to Captivate......we made this rom for Samsung Galaxy S and S2(coming soon) and we ported this also on Samsung Infuse 4G and now i need someone who can port this.
here is my original thread for Samsung Galaxy S GT-I9000

how do you expect someone who doesnt even own a captivate to know this? its good that captivate is still getting some love from devs. you could avoid scaring them away..
@OP what have you done in your rom to give it "long battery life"?
First of all sorry i also know thats annoying and for those i have no captivate phone so i didnt test it and i am also busy with 3 phones rom......so thanks and appreciate the efforts guys......thanks
also don't forget the buttons light up on screen touch fix. Optionally for the extra mile, remove traces to video calling. for kernel, pick a jvt kernel from this forum and it handles 180 and home key button mapping. that leaves you to apply haptic fix on home key and the above functions.
You get this rom worked out and i will try it. We need all the captivate roms we can get. Thanks

Ok, now I've seen it. Really? This guy wants to have someone port his ROM to the Captivate, he asks for development help in the development forum (I'm moving it to General, where it really belongs until actual development takes place) , and he gets bashed for it? All you would have had to do was report the thread as being in the wrong forum, I would have moved it. Really, there's no need for the flaming, namecalling and insults I see here. If your post is gone, think about it....there were a few defenders whose posts are also gone to remove the discussion. Now carry on on topic.
Thread moved and reopened.

Its not a huge under taking to port it to captivate...grab a reoriented kernel.
Remap the buttons so the home key works, fix a couple smali's (one in services.jar to make the capacitive buttons light when you touch the screen, and one in the Android.policy.jar to fix home haptic feedback)
Video call references are optional, not usable on captivate but won't hurt anything if left in. (unless you try to use it then it will FC of course)
Shouldn't take too long to do it yourself... I'll give it a go but i'm busy til Friday, so if you wanna try first go ahead

[q] help from me on xda or in pm/gtalk ?

I help A LOT of people here on xda all day everyday some donate some don't. its very hard to help people on xda cus when helping them other people jump in and start either telling the person im helping don't do that do this or they just plain old spam. i have helped a very large amount of people on g talk and they have told me they like to be helped MORE on g talk than on xda because we have 100% full privacy to do what we need to do. please choose how you like to be helped Either xda or PM or g talk. at the end of the week ill count all of them up and from the results i will help people based on the results on this thanks very much.
To put the poll into better context I believe that you should also read this thread Although I've quoted the relevant posts below:

Hello, Paul,
Firstly, thanks (again) for your input into the forum. I'm genuinely not intending to create conflict here or trying to play the role of a mod. Now, I know that you've had this sort of comment before, but, I agreed with it then and I'm afraid that I still do.
While at times the PM route can be useful to resolve issues, it shouldn't be the only or primary option. The whole principle of XDA is openness and sharing, so resolving an issue in thread permits that the next user(s) (and there is always another, who suffers from the exact same problem) from hopefully using the Search function and then following the resolution from the thread by themselves.
That way we're working towards creating a valuable resource rather than loosing useful input into hidden PMs.
PM's do have there place for 'user to user' communication, that would otherwise populate the forum unnecessarily but once a thread has been created I believe that it should be used to reolve the original issue.
If a new user needs that much hand holding then one wonders whether they should be risking their £200-£400 device in the first place! before reading up some more....

me helping people over PM is better because its faster and more safer for the person im helping. if im trying to guide him then other people jump in and comment he isnt going to know who to listen to and he will get very confused. this has happend before. by helping over PM or my gmail is better for them, and me. and i ALWAYS ask them after to write a guide as to how i helped them and what they did. i at NO point mean to upset anyone. but you have got to understand that this is the only way that i can help these people as you may well know here on xda people have got there opinions and they like to jump in whenever they want. if i tell him to do somthing some1 might jump in and say no or do this and do that. i have had EVERYONE i have helped say thanks to me and its better this way. i have helped MANY people achieve proper s-off. i will no open a poll. and it will ask the people of xda if they would prefer to be helped via PM or Gtalk or on here. if more people prefer xda then i will start helping via xda

As someone whom Paul has helped through gtalk, It was very beneficial to me as we were able to quickly and easily communicate, as any other method is rather slow and crude. I definitely do agree with your point on xda being a repository for information however, therefore communicating through gtalk or similar could withhold information from other users. However I have now written up a short guide of what I did to solve my problem on the original thread, and I believe that if people do this then everyone wins tbh, and it has the added advantage of the treads being shorter and more concise, therefore it is easier to find the relevant information.
As someone who has done all his stiff by reading through threads and others opinions, I will always advocate all discussions on XDA
Sent from a Desire S waiting for Kernel 3. WAKE UP HTC!!!!
On the 16th the poll will close and whatever the winning method is thats the way i will help people from now on. i do wish ALL people will take something out of the way i help them. as me getting them properly s-off uses alot of things like commands running adb , fastboot and so on. by helping them do these things it then in turn helps them. as if i didnt help them and they needed to to adb or fastboot commands and they never knew howto that could result in a not needed thread being opened **How to use adb or fastboot** this is a good way for me to help these people. i think people should help people the way they do and let other people carry on with the ways they do things. ( no offence meant ben your opinion means alot to me your a good person ) but if it states in the rules ( only help people on xda ) then i will stop if it dont then i will carry on as im not doing anything wrong. and even so if you guys think your losing out on infomation. i will open up a guide covering absolutly EVERYTHING on the desire s from fastboot adb changing roms, splash, radio, hboot and covering everything on what the desire s is capable of doing. what limits it has and other things. this in a sense will be the desire s XDA user guide let me know if u think thats a good isea ben. and as i go along anything i help people out with thats not in the new guide ill just update it ????????????

I do but there are already several threads like this, so one must be careful not to pollute the forum with too many similar guides which would just lead to further confusion.

[Q] S-ON/S-OFF root Help? & Key Function List HELP?? PLEASE??

1st Question:
Ok so I had my phone rooted by a friend with S-ON and now I can gain access to the root menu by using “superuser” and “root explorer.” I was able to remap a few buttons using “ButtonRemapper,” which is a great program but the only problem is that it doesn’t remamp all of the functions I want. If I try to edit the doubleshot-keypad.kl file through Root explorer I still cannot gain R/W access. I can only gain R/W access in the “/system” folder. Anything after that will still restrict the access to R/O (i.e. /system/usr/keylayout which is the file I want to edit). Is this because the phone was rooted with S-ON or am I doing something else wrong???
2nd Question:
I need help locating key functions for my T-mobile Mytouch 4g slide. I just need to know what are the code numbers for the long-press function of the 4 buttons on the front of the phone and not the keyboard. I want to change them and I’m not exactly sure how. Can anyone help?!?
I know the original function for the quick-press is like this:
# physical keys
key 102 HOME
key 139 MENU
key 158 BACK
key 188 FUNC_4
I’m trying to change the long-press function of those buttons. Also does anybody know what the button for the key number 107 goes?? It says that key 107 = ENDCALL but there is no physical button for that function anywhere 0_o

Now I'm sure I'm the only 1 that would like to remamp the long-press buttons on the front of the mytough 4g slide. the threads that WeekendsR2Short posted previously DO NOT cover those issues just the regular quick-press keyboard buttons. If anyone has any ideas on how to fix this you help would be greatly appreciated thanx!

Thank you xmc wildchild22 for replying to the issue. I just hope your "look down" response isn't referring to the:
[MOD] ( any ROM ) Hardware Key Mapping | Flashable zips & Requests ( GB & ICS )
and the:
[MOD] Re-Mapping Keys (Genius Button to Search - www/com button to TAB) and more..
threads which have already been recommend to me by WeekendsR2Short. their solutions do not address the particular issues I'm posting on this thread. I've been to both of those threads and posted questions and comments concerning similar issues but just not this one which is a bit different.
If your referring to the:
[GUIDE] How to root MT4GS with any HBOOT (updated 07/28/12) or the: "[How To] Flash ICS ROMs with S-ON Unlocked"
then yes I've seen those guides as well but my htc driver refuses to read my phone. Ive installed and reinstalled the latest driver but it still wont recognize the mytouch 4g slide so I cant get to far on those guides. If it's not a usb debugging problem, your usb timing might be off. I never got around to fixing it on my desktop (too lazy) so I just used my work laptop.
Timing would also cause ODIN (for samsung) and jailbreaking (for iPhone) problems.
Test on another computer.
If you will look here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1254518 under Doubleshot device drivers, Blue6IX will be able to explain some of the issues you're having much better than me.
I HAVE had some of the same driver issues as you have but if you could just be a little more specific.......
Is it telling you the device isn't found or just sitting there acting like it doesn't even hear you?
btw....you're going to have to look in the lower right corner of your Windows screen and make sure that HTC Sync isn't running.

I have searched the forum and did not find a solution to this specific problem, Please help out Kindly.and receive a Thank You Notification
I'm going to report this thread anyway. You asked this in the 'Noob Questions' thread, and then opened your own thread for the same question. That is against the rules of XDA.

@SimonTS, If you notice, I said no rude comment and also stade in Bold "be clear and precise", your reply is so pointless to my question. and It was Wise of me to create a new thread in regards to my issue. I initially posted under Noobs Thread thinking I would get a quick response But then I realised they are so many request on his thread and since mine was peculiar and more technical I found it wise to create a new thread for better result.
Moreover, I saw your reply to my Request Under Noobs Thread and you didn't even have a Precise solution for me neither could you help me, and not to even talk of it, You are the only one who did make an attempt to give a solution It seems no one else has knows How to resolve it. Please next time before making comments like this, always think twice and see reasons to ones idea.

I don't need to see the reasons behind your double-posting - it is against the rules of XDA. If that is too confusing then that's your problem, not mine.
I did reply to you on the 'Noob' thread with a few ideas, but you didn't bother coming back to say whether any of those things had worked or not - you can't expect assistance if you don't provide information. I didn't have a "Precise solution" (as you put it), because 99.9% of the 'problems' that people report on here are caused by them not reading, not understanding or simply diving in and then regretting it.
In one of the other threads you created (about rooting) you stated
I didnt try HTC Dev bcoz its process was a bit confusing and since They said Quick root does it all I thought.

If HTC Dev is too confusing and "They said quick root does it all I thought" then you need to do far more reading - HTC Dev is simple and straightforward.
Yes, it is possible that you have a really, really rare fault that only applies to you because you are special, but it is extremely unlikely. As for developing an attitude with the people who have put many, many hours into helping other users on here and also tried to help you - not a good idea.
You signed up to XDA, asked your questions about rooting and then went off-line for a month. You came back, asked these questions about your strange problem and then disappeared for three weeks. XDA is a COMMUNITY, not a help-desk. If you want to pay me (or one of the other guys who know far more than I do) for us to act as a helpdesk then it's not a problem - the standard industry rates are $120 per hour.
Oh, and as a PS - but I'm sure that you searched and found this - HTC Desire S > Desire S General > FAST BOOT have you tried disabling Fast Boot as a lot of apps really don't like it.
Anyone Here to Help?
Hello everyone,
PLease can someone help me here, Please help me resolve my initial Problem. Please see First Post abovehttp://1.2.3.11/bmi/forum.xda-developers.com/images/smilies/good.gif
Please do not mind SimonTS Post, I created a new thread so as to allow experience and expert developers view and help resolve this issue. I initailly posted in NOOBs Help and Troubleshooting Thread, Not until I realised that there were over 100 threads and request under that forum, which I then realised that my request might not be solved due to the technical difficulties involved and I was right No one except simon was able to reply to it (and yet not solved).
Please Can someone Help me Out Here? Its been 3 weeks without a solution. Thnaks
:fingers-crossed:
Be wise and Be careful
@SimonTS, You clearly are naive and lack some essential skills like Wisdom.
You fail to realise, that some people have got other important work aside from their Phones and their work takes most of their time rather than them toying with their phone. If I did know how to troubleshoot my phone properly, I wouldn't have bothered putting up a post on here. And Yeah, I did get answers from wise and expert people on here but not from you. I Never asked for you to be troubled by my post and is My post aches your eyes then take your eyes off my Post. I do not need you to comment on this post if you do not have anything positive to say in regards to my request and if you're Tired of helping people on this forum kindly remove yourself from it. No one forced you to Help out, you volunteered to willingly and if it upsets you in helping people resolve their query, Like you said
because 99.9% of the 'problems' that people report on here are caused by them not reading, not understanding or simply diving in and then regretting it.

then deactivate your account and stop helping. It is called "Customer Friendly and Volunteering". You do not need to act unwisely if someone ask for you help, If you can't help then don't help.

Hi
1. Hae you tried to reinstall the rom
2. Have you flashed boot.img from that rom ( fallout )
3. Have you tried another rom
4. Do you perform < full wipe > before flashing
5. Have you checked whether your device's battery sits firmly in its place
if there are any movements it is likely to cause reboots
5.may try to update your bootloader and radio to the latest( not directly related but...)
6. You may also try to start from skratch:
- lock bootloader
-flash ics ruu
-unlock bootloader
- flash recovery
-flash superuser.zip ( or a prerooted rom )
Check whether it happens on other drivers ( roms )
try a few...
By the time you'll finish to try all options you'll know whether this is software or hardware issue...
Neither I, nor anyone else, sits next to your phone so only you have a chance to fully test it

P. S rooting isn't for you
Sent from my supercharged :tank:
Hi
Let me start by offering you some friendly advice. You are the guy with the one weird problem nobody else seems to have. You are the new member, or 'noob' if you wish. Therefore you would do well to behave in a courteous and non-wise-ass-y manner towards your fellow XDA forum members. You have no rights to demand anything from us, you are asking for our advice and it's only in your best interest to try to get on our good side rather than our bad side.
Now, as for your problem. The most likely reason is that the kernel you're running is incompatible with the modules your ROM is shipping. I.e.: you made a #1 new-user mistake and did not (correctly) flash the boot.img of your new ROM.
A second possibility is that there's genuinely something wrong with either your ROM or your device itself.
To check for both issues at the same time, please do the following:
Reboot your phone
Create a dmesg ('adb shell dmesg') and a logcat ('adb logcat') log
Use your phone until the problem occurs
Immediately after, create a new dmesg and logcat
Post all four logs
Thank you for your co-operation

Thank you @asgardr , When I rooted my HTC Desire S, I followed this guide ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1525100) posted by @n0elite. It was simple and easy and I did flash the boot.img, I have checked the battery and even changed my battery it is certainly not the battery fault. Although, I haven't tried to reinstall the ROM because I didn't want to follow the same guide in case something was missing in it. I have also tried reading other threads on here but I am not sure of which Guide to follow because I came across some negative comments on it. I haven't tried another ROM yet and thats because I do not know of any Updated ROM and most people seem to say the "Fallout v5.0.0" is most recent.
However, I have tried to find an update on the fallout but haven't found one, I also have SuperSU installed but I don't know how to tweak it and therefore haven't tampered with it so as not to cause damage to my phone. I know some losers on here would say why didn't I try any of these or make any attempt to. Well my reasons are well best known to me, I lost some data on my last rooting even though I tried backing up all my data, some of my previous apps failed to work and I lost previous progress on some of my important work in which i was working on due to compatibility issues. Therefore, I am trying to thread carefully and make my research and findings before making any attempts on my phone or I could loose the all phone all together.
I do appreciate your solutions and clicked on the thanks button because only you have been sensible and helpful on this matter and precise without going of point and being rude and insultive.

@asgardr, Thanks for your humble attitude, Exactly what is expected from all users, Humble and friendly approach. Please can you recommend to me any Custom ROM and Recovery that is very at least 90% or more efficient and most up to date? as I shall try what all your suggestions again. Thanks.
After unlocking bootloader installing recovery, rooting,.....
flashing a custom rom is a matter of rebooting into recovery, flashing the rom.zip
and afterwards boot.img via fastboot- that's all you'd need to do...
Redownloding and reflashing the rom again
( after wiping clean all partitions-in recovery )
very often corrects some errors and bugs, happening within the system,
after the first flash...
This is the link to the kernel thread,
( sense4_boot.img , as well supports fallout rom)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1845039
which may also be an option on the way to resolve this
rather rare device's malfunction
Edit: 4ext recovery is said to be most efficient for our device.
I'am still using clockworkmod touch 5.8.1.5 though, and all is fine on my end....
Most of the time, my device's daily drivers including htc sense in it are:
-ViperSaga ( sense 4.1 full )
-DesireXS ( sense 4.1 lite )
-Endymion 3.5 ( almost perfect- my favorite for a very long time )
These roms are my personal choices...
but, to tell the truth, I did not try every single one from the whole array,
so, among others available, one still may find very nice surprise....
@Topzturvins07 I'm not sure if you are just insanely stubborn or not, but at the same time as I originally reported this as a duplicate thread, I posted a reply to you in the 'Noob Thread' as below;-
Verify the checksum of the ROM first. Carry out a full wipe and reflash, try running with no apps installed and see if the problem still happens.
Disable 'fast boot' from the settings.
Try a different ROM, although I have no problems with Fallout on my old DS.
Make sure you haven't installed any task-killers.
Describe better what actually happens and what you see on screen.
Just a few suggestions.

You never bothered to reply to my post and provide more information. The only real description you have given of the problem is (probably because you are not a techie person) very vague and unhelpful. I have worked in customer support and consultancy for 20 years now and the biggest problem when you can't actually see the problem for yourself is trying to get a user to describe exactly and precisely what is going on.
If you want to ask for help then you need to answer the questions that are asked of you by the very people whose help you desire. Communication requires two-way talk, and you will find that the people willing to help on here do not ask questions simply for the fun of it.

Very well, if I misread you I humbly apologize. Writing isn't the easiest medium to convey emotions
Now, if you could post those two dmesg and logcat logs I asked for? I am confident they will shed more light on where exactly your issues come from.

Well despite not knowing how to generate the Logcat and dmesg, I was able to get a guide from @blindndumb and I came up with loads of Junks I can't interpret. You'll find in attach three txt file,
one is the :
dmesg.txt
logcat1.txt (before sudden logoff)
logcat2.txt (after the first sudden logoff)
logcat3.txt (after the second sudden logoff)
Please help yourself, because I cannot interpret what is produced.
Well, this is peculiar. I was expecting to see loads of '<service> has died' errors in your logcat, because that is usually the cause of a spontaneous hot restart. Your logcat actually looks rather normal.
Was the dmesg log taken directly after a hot restart?
Also, could you please reboot your phone and take another dmesg immediately after the system has finished loading? I'm mostly interested in the log of the boot-up, which has unfortunately been completely overwritten by a slur of error messages (which are completely normal by the way, it's the result of a debugging option that's enabled in the stock kernel sources and the guy who compiled your kernel probably forgot to turn that off).

I have tried a couple of time to catch all the logcat report but there seem to be a million lines of logs immediately I start the phone and they all run within a blink of an eye, and my CMD cannot hold back so many. The ones you see is what I could retrieve but I could try changing the properties of my cmd and see if I can catch more of it.
