[Q] Root without usb? - Samsung Infuse 4G

Hello, i know there are other threads like his but are extremely old. Anyway, is there a way to root that anyone know without usb? My usb controller is broken and will not be trading in my phone for another for a while. On the captivate there was a root method that was done through the stock recovery. Thank you for any help. Btw im on froyo

Use z4root app..

Does not work....

it might be possible on froyo but not through recovery. you need to swap recovery for a modded one to flash anything not digitally signed by Samsung.
there is a loophole someone found that uses a file that is set to 777 permissions in init.RC to push a local.prop to allow root adb access but you still need USB to run adb. the meathod might allow automated rooting without adb but would been further refinement. most methods out there use adb. I don't know of any apps that work on the infuse to do it without a USB. but I'm not sure and I don't know anything about local.prop files.
it could be possible but I'm not sure of all the details.

Your phone is, unfortunately, likely broken with a hardware failure. Nothing to do with being rooted.
i know its not from being rooted, but i need to unroot it before i send it back to att
wireless
maybe connect to a pc via bluetooth or wireless.

Noone checks to see if rooted. Kill the battery and exchange
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using XDA App
Have you tried a different USB cable to see if that is the cause?
Get Root explorer from the market or any app that can delete systems app. With root explore go to system/apps/ and delete superuser. Or get SGS tools.

that was the first thing i tried, the superuser icon still appears.
Does it still charge & just doesnt connect to computer or nothing at all?

Is ur phone dead by now? You may be able to charge your battery out of the phone? Anyway I'd figure out a way to hide the super user icon, there has to be a way to do that. I doubt anyone would go beyond looking for superuser to determine rooted or not
I have returned at least 3 different rooted Android phones at the AT&T store and no one there cares. Just take it back and tell them it does not charge. The people at the retail store are not power users, they can barely tell you the difference between Android and IOS, do you think they know what Superuser means?

One click root ee4

Is there a one click root method for the newest ota its a brand new refurbished... Odin won't sync with my computer
Sent from my SCH-I510 using xda premium
You must use Odin. If you can't get your computer to recognize your phone, try reloading the drivers, different USB port, and a different cable. Even if a one click method worked, you will still need Odin to load a cwm recovery if you plan to use custom roms
OK thanks figured that was the case appreciate. The swift response....
Sent from my SCH-I510 using xda premium
if you know what ADB is and how to use it you can root without odin by pushing superuser manually
blazing through on my 4G Droid Charge
Still need to be able to sync with my pc so I. Guess ibhave to. Do. Some. Computer work. First. Off...

Pantech Burst Root Help

Has anyone figured out how to root the Pantech Burst without a PC? I am using a Mac, and after a lot of searching I got my phone to go into Fastboot using Androtility. Now Im trying to push prestoroot.img but I cant get any command to work in Terminal.
If anyone can give me some tips to get me to the next step it would be awesome. Or if someone knows of an alternative rooting method. One click apps havent worked unfortunately.

Anywhere you see "adb push" You can also just copy the file to the phone. I made install.zip files for the ICS update to root, install CWM,Install the old bootloader. Just copied them to the external SD card and fastbooted CWM. You can install those all in one swipe in CWM and then just reboot. I think we had the same problems only on different systems. That was my workaround.

3emodd recovery

Okay. I bought a old Samsung Infuse and I have to say I love it. But I would like to install clockworkmod recovery. I read that in order to do this however I need to get modded version of Samsung's recovery known as 3emodd. Now I can't find any tutorials on how to flash this recovery. Also there may be a problem with flashing it. My micro usb port on the phone broke. I cant connect it to a computer via a wired connection. But I can use adb via wifi. Any ideas on how to get clockworkmod??

if your usb port is broke, fix it if you want to flash anything.
broken port+bad flash=brick phone w/o recovery
read the q/a thread...
Okay. I got everything working thanks anyway for the reply. I know I should get it fixed but I broke part of the board off in the process so I don't think that's an option. But yeah thanks anyway.

If you flash, it is a certainty that something will go wrong. The only way to fix it is download mode with heimdall or odin. Without a working USB, you will have a paper weight.
It is possible to move files into microsd or by wireless etc...these methods do not replace the recovery method.

[Q] super cid issue/ adb issue

i was going to s-off the this morning and flash illusion 2.0 but instead i am beating my head off the keyboard. i have been reading all day. i have like 12 tabs open and my main problem is that adb isn't working. not sure what i'm doing wrong. i need to get to supercid. instructions seem easy enough. i go to command prompt, change my directory, everything good here just as usual. when i type "adb shell" i get "error: device offline" don't know what i'm doing wrong. thanks in advance.
I had the same problem. First make sure ADB debugging in advanced options is checked. Next try booting into fastboot. If your on stock try putting it into charge only mode. Try the multiple different ways

do you mean usb debugging? or is adb debugging different? because i don't see adb debugging anywhere.
Check these things right here in the picture. Have USB debugging enabled and select root access and choose apps and adb

It's usb debugging that you need to check. You mentioned that you are on a custom rom ... Is it sense based or aosp? I was still on the stock ics rom when I changed to super cid. Everything went just fine, although I didn't proceed to do Facepalm s-off immediately. I did flash cm10, and came back to finish s-off a couple of weeks later. Nearly drove myself crazy, until I realized it works best when done on a sense rom. Flashed a stock rooted rom, and it literally took about 10 minutes to finish s-off. Restored my cm10 backup, and all is well.
I really appreciate the info. I'm on bb8, which isn't sense. I have USB debugging on. Should I be on a stock rpm to get supercid or just for s-off? My problem is adb won't my phone.

ok so, back on task...i can not get adb to work. i'm trying to get supercid. i can't find anything on adb. i get "error: device offline"

what do you mean by tried putting it into fast boot? & by that i mean i thought it had to be in fastboot. also, i believe i have sdk set up but that's maybe where i'm going wrong. in cmd i actually got it to say "daemon started successfully" which it's suppose to, but then it said "error: device not found" not sure what i'm doing wrong.

Fast boot is when you boot into boot loader using power + volume down. Once you get to boot loader there's an option for fast boot use you power button to select it

i serched the android sdk guide and it looks like i have everything in order. i will dl the gn toolkit. also, i've heard that some things work better with a sense rom. i did switch to trickdroid, which has wifi issues and will not be a daily driver, but i can't remember if it was with scid or s-off or something else.
