As per title really...has anyone else experienced dust getting underneath the touchscreen?
on one of the rare days of sunshine last week I noticed a small amount of dust under the screen. It's going back to vodafone for "repair"
Not a good sign on a two week old device!

Are you saying that originally your Sensation had no dust under the screen and dust developed there over time?
Someone was showing how the case design causes link to get in other areas, but I wonder if this also is the cause of dust getting under the screen???
And there's another thread about this same issue.
This is very depressing.
I've really hit a point where I'm wondering if this is the right device for me .
Edit October 25, 2011: I've had a Sensation for 3 months now and have not had any issues. The vast majority of Sensation owners don't have this issue.

This is how it goes in the beginning, unfortunately. Remember, this is a small percentage of actual Sensation phones we're hearing about here. Then again, I'm coming from the G2X...talk about issues.
I bought the Nexus One at launch, and had many issues. However, it turned out being the best phone I ever owned.
Sorry for creating another post.... Been on this board every day for weeks looking for root info and clearly missed it. :-(
Yes by the way... I mean no dust when I got it and now dust!
I still love it though... Just annoying that going to be without it for a week. Back to my leedroid gb desire... I'm glad I hadn't ebay ed it yet!

Could anyone who is using Sensation longer than two weeks confirm that not all these devices are affected by this? I've seen a lot of posts about it, and I am concerned if only some of them are affected or just few unlucky pieces...
I was looking forward to get this phone since they did not announce it on Barcelona, I knew HTC has something they didnt want us to see, few weeks later my wish came true, now its finaly here, and I am struggling if I should buy it or not... the WIFI problem doesnt look that serious to me, and seems like I could live with it(I am barelly using BT, and WIFI only at home, where the signal is better than good)...
Please, is here someone who doesnt have this problem after few weeks of usage? Still, if all the phones are affected, what would be the matter of getting it exchanged/fixed after two weeks, if I'll get the same phone again with the same issue, and two weeks later I will have to get that fixed again...
I too would like to hear from people who have *not* had dust issues and happen to keep their phone in their pocket or someplace where dust can get in. I'm looking at getting this phone today, and this is the first I've heard about dust. Had dust in my HTC Hero back when I had that phone, drove me nuts. Actually used to take it apart about once a month to do a thorough cleaning, and I kinda thought that after that phone, I wouldn't have to deal with that kind of issue anymore.
I havent had any dust underneith my screen but I do have a gel cover on that sort of seals any areas where dust can get in.

Using mine since 27/05. It spends half of the time in the pocket, the back cover was taken off a few times as well. There's dust all around the screen where it meets the cover but none underneath the actual touchscreen.
Quite bad idea for a back cover IMHO but no dust issues so far. Standard issue Vodafone IRL Sensation

Long as it's not getting under the touchscreen it's not "too" big of a deal... The screen should be fused tightly enough that none every should get under there, theoretically speaking...

My HD2 was fine before I even loaded a custom ROM on it. I was stock the first 30 days with no complaints.
But XDA can mostly address software, not hardware issues. No custom ROM can kick dust from under the screen .

Crap... Keep us updated plx, if you get replacement, or fixed the one you have and if this happens again... I cant believe that HTC did that crucial mistake again and all phones would be affected...

So I go to the Tmobile store and asked how they work with Dust under the screen. He said if its a widespread problem that a ton of people are having theyll replace them. But he said if no one reports it then they might not replace them.
I got two specs under my screen now. All the walmarts are sold out, and I only have 14 days to return. Im stumped on what to do.

Regarding the T-Mobile store. What the heck does the rest of the Sensation owning public have to do with YOUR Sensation having a defect? Even if 1 is defective it should be replaced. It should not require a fixed percentage.
Personally, I'd return for full refund before the return period runs out, but that's just me...
If it ALREADY has 2 specs under the screen. What do you think it will have 30 days from now, 1 year from now? That's a rhetorical question.

Yea what I meant was I want another one but they are all sold out lol. I wouldn't mind if tmobiles gonna replace it anyways keep it until the dust is unbearable.
But ur right I might just return at walmart and wait for another shipment.
reminds me of what was going on when i got my nexus one.. i was able to escape that issue then and i hope to escape it now
Okay so i bought a Sensation from T-mobile the other day, took it home saw a lot of contacts in it, went back to explain to the guy that i had gotten a used or defunct-ed phone. He claimed it wasn't and they were false example numbers HA! Anyway i bit my tongue cause the phone was pristine and tried it for 48 hours. Over the course of 2 days of trying to calibrate the battery and use the phone i noticed i wasn't even getting 6 hours out of it with MINIMAL use. So i went back to T-mobile returned it and got the G2X. I kinda really like the phone but have noticed 2 flaws that are eating at me for a full priced new phone. 1. there is screen tearing on the screen causing slight bleeding. and 2 there is a gash UNDER the glass and i can see it very clearly on the phone. I am taking this phone back tomorrow.
My question is someone please tell me why i should own the Sensation how is the battery did i get a defunct-ed phone that someone returned? My concern is NOT benchmarks its the battery. Thanks guys!
The lg g2x I'd known for having a bad screen as for the sensation, yes I do think you got a used one. Otherwise why would there be someone else's contacts on there. There's always the new mytouch 4g slide that is amazing.

oh i agree about it being used, i just wasn't sure if the battery was the reason it was returned. The T-mobile guy claims the battery is crappy cause its a dual core phone HAHA. I swear these guys have no type of knowledge with these things. Reason im doing this thread is cause i am torn between the g2x and sensation i've had both and liked both but because of Sense 3.0 i feel like the G2X is so much quicker, and the battery last me all day!
Quick and straight to the point, buy the anker 1900mah battery for $10 bucks and have two fold in battery performance.. Yes the oem battery is poo but these things make it amazing, i could go into every detail to why the sensation is worth keeping but since its just the battery then just go for the anker and be happy forrrrrrrrrrrrrr everrrrrr.
worst come to worst the ppl mayb clear up all the contacts and sell back to other ppl..haha..sensation is good plus already can s-off, root and install custom ROM..so what u waiting for? i prefer a high end performance phone rather than good looking phone..htc phone designs are all the same/almost the same
If you get the sensation again do a factory reset right off the bat. My first one had HORRIBLE battery life and a factory reset make it last at least 2x longer, no joke.

First of, don't go back to that store. Stay clear of the g2x. Since you are within the grace period I WILL hurry up and exchange the phone for the sensation and this time don't leave the store without checking the new phone thoroughly. Take it from me. I owned the g2x from day one. It's a nice phone but I think the so called update the g2x will get from LG will be it's last. Just take a look at all their so called high end phones all still running froyo.
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA Premium App
Yeah i am going to go for the Sensation, I've been reading pros and cons for both phones and a lot of people say the g2x has long term effects as where the Sensation has touch screen issues and sometimes comes with a crappy screen, these are things i could notice right off the bat and get a new one rather than have to warranty my phone every couple weeks etc.
Thanks again guys!
I initially got the Sensation as an upgrade to my Desire HD, but sent it back and got the Galaxy S 2 instead.
Getting 1.5 days on the Gs2 with moderate use.

I really want the galaxy s 2, but they don't have it stateside yet i hope it comes out soon!
This used phone was sealed in a box? Did you see it being taken out? Thats bonkers...
I have both the g2x and sensation. I had to swap mulitple times to get a g2x with a decent enough screen. They're both very good phones. You'll probably get pro-sensation answers if u ask here.

Got it!
Got the Sensation today!! i made sure it was made after may because of the touchscreen issues. Has great viewing angles now lets hope it doesn't start showing weird signs of craziness. already rooted s-off etc thanks guys!
Hi guys, like many others, my Sensation has the problem with the dust underneath the screen. I called HTC today and set up an RMA. I'm all set to ship it out, but I wanted to know if when they fix the problem, do they replace the entire screen assembly (glass, digitizer, lcd) or just clean the dust off the existing screen and put it back together with the same parts?
Bump.
Also, would I be able to get T-Mobile to replace it (even though I have AT&T) or if I gave it to a friend with T-Mo, could he get T-Mo to replace it even though neither of us are the original owners?
Why didn't you just ask them those questions while you were on the phone with them?

That's actually a good point. I guess I didn't think of it then . Well I called them up and the guy said that they would attempt a repair first and only replace it if necessary, but that seemed like it was a typical response read off a script or something. In any case, I sent it for service and will hope for the best.

First post so please be nice. I just got a new Atrix 2. It doesnt have any Motorola names on it except the back cover where the M is. Also it doesnt have any AT&T names on it. I bought it used from someone on ebay. It looks new. No scratches or anything like that. The home and back keys dont seem to be working right. Sometimes they do and sometimes they dont. Is this normal? He said he only used it for a week. Looks like it. It also came with an Otterbox Commuter case! Anyway should I be worried because there are no markings on the phone? I did check it has the new update. 2.3.6 Anything else I should check? My first Android phone!! Thanks for any info!!
If you are not sure about it, go into a att store and look at theirs to compare. You back button seems messed up though.

It seems like he may have replaced the screen. Some screens come with no markings on it...and sometimes the buttons may act funny after changing the screen. Ask the guy if he changed the screen.

So I am a current HTC Sensation 4G user. I previously had the Samsung Vibrant and before that I had an HTC HD2. Ive been using smart phone for a long time and have rooted just about everyone of them that I could.
Last week my sensation started having issues. The whole left 1/4" or so of the phone was unresponsive which means I couldnt use the QWEASD, up and ZX keys on the keypad or any apps that happened to be in the section of the screen. We called TMO about getting a replacement. Well they didnt have any. They said they had a Samsung Galaxy S 4G or Mytouch 4G that were comparable. So I had them send the Galaxy S which is basically an upgraded version of the Vibrant I had.
My GF called them the next day and they said they did actually have the Sensation and could send me that instead but had to send the Galaxy S back unopened.
So my question is keep the Galaxy S or return it in hopes that they have a Sensation to send me (leery of that though). Are they really that comparable? Only concern is I think I would have to root the Galaxy S in order to get ICS but the Sensation has an OTA for ICS and Galaxy S doesnt have a flash.
Thanks for your opinions/thoughts!
Jason
Send back the galaxy. The sensation is a better phone. Nothing wrong with the galaxy, but its outdated. It has two successors now. The sensation has plenty of dev happening, its relatively easy to root an upgrade to ICS. DO NOT use the OTA update, cause that'll just make your rooting a whole lot harder. You'll get better stuff by not doin it anyway.

I decided to send back the Galaxy. However they said they did NOT have any more Sensations. A couple of days later they supposedly have some. Should be getting that this week. While cruising the interwebs, I saw the Google Galaxy Nexus and decided to buy that. When the Sensation gets here, Ill just sell it. Thanks.
