[Q] pta data usage? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

Hey all - wasn't sure what was up with this... but didn't see any good definitave answers online (besides endless - my husband is cheating on me threads ) - any idea what "pta internet/media net" usage is about? I don't have an unlimited plan, but these are sent rates and trying to keep my data usage down.

I did run speed test a time or two - but not sure if it would use that much data or not since the time wasn't an exact match. Thanks.

just dial *3282# to get a text with your data use.
I'ts been so long since I've looked at my bill in that much detail, but if I remember correctly its you using the phone's internet, yes speed tests would count.

Yes - but the data usage doesn't show you what the pta is besides / medianet. And it's sent. My wife's iphone 4s had a 62meg sent charge that was listed as phone instead of pta - I think because she's on 3g. I have no idea what could have been sent as 62meg - neither did the att people when I called. I love how they can ding you if you go over but can't tell you why / how / what the data is.

pta is any data over the LTE APN. Phone is usually the HSPA+ only APN.

[Q] AT&T prepaid unlimited?

You get unlimited talk / text / data for $50, unless you have a smartphone, then you have to pay $5-$25 more for limited data. If I have a fully unlocked / rooted / MIUI rommed Samsung Captivate, how do they know if it's a smartphone or not?
I ask because I'm using it on t-mobile's network at the moment, but I'd like my 3G speeds back. Also, when i log into my account on t-mobile.com, it knows what phone my GF has (unrooted stock), but mine shows as unknown.

[Q] AT&T MicroSim for HOX

Can some one tell me if I will have to go to AT&T after I get my HOX so they can activate my 4g lte?
Well it should be active automatically.. I don't have 4G [hardly even get 3G] where I live. When you startup the phone it should pre-configure your settings for you. However modded roms on my current phone [Sony x10] never had correct settings put on them. For me, I had to use the following in my apn settings to actually get a good download speed;
Name AT&T
APN: WAP.cingular
Proxy: wireless.cingular.com
Port: 80
Username: [email protected]
Password: CINGULAR1
Server: leave blank
MMSC: http://mmsc.cingular.com
MMS Proxy: wireless.cingular.com
MMS port: 80
MMS protocol: WAP 2.0
MICC 310
MNC 410
Auth type blank
APN type blank

However, For 4GLTE The settings may be different. I wouldn't think they would be though, seeing as I got that APN info from a Inspire 4G's APN settings lol.

the Rogers apn settings are pretty different from the hspa/3g apn settings (the first half of the settings anyways). I wouldnt doubt that at&t lte apn's are a bit different as well. The Inspire doesnt support lte, so dont fool yourself. heh.
To the Op: If there is a change, it will most likely be pushed to your device once your device exchanges a 'handshake' with the network.
I meant it more as; 4G>3G. So if 4G Settings work fine on my 3G phone, It shouldn't be a problem on the stock rom. So unless the dev's pump out some roms and whatnot, take note of your settings. Just to be safe :b

AT&T uses a different APN for LTE.

If you buy the phone from AT&T, they should have changed our account to enable LTE. A micro-SIM will be included, so you just need to insert (if not already) and call to activate the micro-SIM.
If you are getting the phone from somewhere else other than AT&T, you can either go to a AT&T store and get a micro-SIM, or you can cut your existing SIM to fit using tools/kits that are available online (or cut by hand, instructions have been posted on this forum). You will still need to call or visit an AT&T store to activate LTE on your account. Technically, I think AT&T is supposed to charge for new SIMs (if you don't buy a phone). But they will often just give you one for free at the stores.
FYI if you aren't already aware, LTE is not an extra fee, and not really a change of data plan, exactly. For instance, if you are still on an unlimited data plan, they will put you on an unlimited LTE plan.

Not only is it free of charge and we continue to hold our "unlimited status" our throttling threshold is moved from 3gb to 5gb, this being the main reason I am switching form my International Galaxy S2. Its a BIG Win for me, as I am a data hog according to AT&T
Does the HOX using a micro sim card or a regular size one?

Microsim. They do have LTE microsims since the release of the iPad 3, which also uses it.

You can convert regular old uicc sim's and it'll still work with lte (the settings will get pushed to the phone)

Regular SIM must be the newer one (serial number within certain range) in order to work with LTE. If you have a really old 3G SIM, go to AT&T store and get a new one.

AT&T HTC One X on H2O wireless

Hello everyone! First off I apologize if this has been covered or if this is not in the correct location. Feel free to move Mods.
I have a att Htc OneX on 4.0.4 HTC sense . Phone is Unlocked.
I am having issues with the 4g speeds. I can not find solid APN settings that will make the 4g actually feel as if it were 4g. Service is very very slow. Since H2O is basically AT&T I don't see why I am having these issues. Any help would be great!
I have attached 2 Screenshots of the settings I was about to find that has been working for MMS and Internet but speeds draaaaaggggg!!!
Thanks!
Being "basically" att, and actually being att are two very different things. Are you absolutely sure h2o get the same days speeds as att? They are a MVNO after all, and offering unlimited data at pricing that's even better than att. There's gotta be a sacrifice somewhere there.

Yes they do. Not LTE but fast enough for second hand service.
Have you contacted the carrier?

By the way I've just been reading up on h2o and I see nothing but terrible reviews. Might be time to switch.

That's pathetic. Time to change carriers. Or at least call them and find out why it's like that.

AT&T Possible?

I'm going to the USA for a month next month. Would like to use this phone over there so I don't have to carry a dumb phone for calling and this phone for wifi. Has anyone had any success using this phone on AT&T? Even if it's just voice and text, that would suffice. If it doesn't work there, is there another carrier that it will work on without flashing a new IMEI onto it?

You can order a SIM for it from Straight Talk. $15 for the card. $45 a month, no contract.
Straight Talk is CDMA, this phone will not work with CDMA outside of Korea.

Oh 760, bummer.
---------- Post added at 07:50 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:41 PM ----------
Actually P925 is GSM; I use them.
---------- Post added at 07:56 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:50 PM ----------
But no idea if they carry a card for that phone....
BTW lately for some reason XDA app won't let me edit a post....
I might look into it then. A sk seller guarantees that the 760 works in America but may only do 2G. That doesn't bother me as much. If straighttalk is cheaper, I'll do that.
Actually looks like all frequencies work on the 760 for American gsm. Now need to figure out which carrier will work best for me.

Thanks again, drastic.
I just got into America, got my phone working on StraightTalk, no sweat.
Took a little bit of finagling to get the APN set up, but I think it was user input error on my part.

[Q] US prepaid data plans, 1+ GB

Hi everybody.
As last threads are dated 2010, I would ask you again...
How much is (approximately) for a 1GB/2GB prepaid data plan in the US? I am not searching for the fastest 4G network. A good 3G signal is enough actually.
Thank you
It varies by carrier. To get the best speeds you would want to get Verizon, Att or T-mobile(if in major city). For the it's about $60 for 1-2.5gb.
Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
$60GB.. That's "big money"
Thank you so much!
There is also a $30 t-mobile prepaid plan at Walmart you could get. It comes with 100 minutes, unlimited text and 5gb of data.
