Can some one tell me if I will have to go to AT&T after I get my HOX so they can activate my 4g lte?
Well it should be active automatically.. I don't have 4G [hardly even get 3G] where I live. When you startup the phone it should pre-configure your settings for you. However modded roms on my current phone [Sony x10] never had correct settings put on them. For me, I had to use the following in my apn settings to actually get a good download speed;
Name AT&T
APN: WAP.cingular
Proxy: wireless.cingular.com

However, For 4GLTE The settings may be different. I wouldn't think they would be though, seeing as I got that APN info from a Inspire 4G's APN settings lol.

the Rogers apn settings are pretty different from the hspa/3g apn settings (the first half of the settings anyways). I wouldnt doubt that at&t lte apn's are a bit different as well. The Inspire doesnt support lte, so dont fool yourself. heh.
To the Op: If there is a change, it will most likely be pushed to your device once your device exchanges a 'handshake' with the network.
I meant it more as; 4G>3G. So if 4G Settings work fine on my 3G phone, It shouldn't be a problem on the stock rom. So unless the dev's pump out some roms and whatnot, take note of your settings. Just to be safe :b

If you buy the phone from AT&T, they should have changed our account to enable LTE. A micro-SIM will be included, so you just need to insert (if not already) and call to activate the micro-SIM.
If you are getting the phone from somewhere else other than AT&T, you can either go to a AT&T store and get a micro-SIM, or you can cut your existing SIM to fit using tools/kits that are available online (or cut by hand, instructions have been posted on this forum). You will still need to call or visit an AT&T store to activate LTE on your account. Technically, I think AT&T is supposed to charge for new SIMs (if you don't buy a phone). But they will often just give you one for free at the stores.
FYI if you aren't already aware, LTE is not an extra fee, and not really a change of data plan, exactly. For instance, if you are still on an unlimited data plan, they will put you on an unlimited LTE plan.

Not only is it free of charge and we continue to hold our "unlimited status" our throttling threshold is moved from 3gb to 5gb, this being the main reason I am switching form my International Galaxy S2. Its a BIG Win for me, as I am a data hog according to AT&T

Regular SIM must be the newer one (serial number within certain range) in order to work with LTE. If you have a really old 3G SIM, go to AT&T store and get a new one.

I have an unlocked MYTOUCH phone.. When i put my ATT sim card with an IPHONE data plan in there, i cannot surf.
Will only tmobile data plans work?
Tmobile uses different frequencies for 3G (1700/2100Mhz) but you should be able to use the edge/gprs network since they use the same bands, you might also need to the add the right APN settings for the ATT network
You don't need to use an iPhone data plan, you are going to use medianet on your mytouch, so you need to use medianet settings. Please note those settings different from the iPhone settings and you will get huge charges with an iPhone plan. I have the $10 medianet unlimited package with my phone. Also this should be in the general section not android development.
It is true that you can't get to the 3g networks because ATT runs off a different frequency than tmobile but you can get the Edge networks. To do this however you have to change some settings. You have to go to settings and then wireless controls. Then there should be a Mobile Network Settings option then go down to Access Point Names. Then you click the menu button and click New APN. Then fill in this information.. for the MCC and MNC don't put stars look up your country code.

now you should be able to connect to the edge networks and be able to surf the web.
Okay, I already have an IPHONE data plan on my SIM card which is why i was trying that, but nothing worked... so I want unlimited internet, so which ATT plan will work for the MYTOUCH?
and s2pdpyro, thanks for that detailed info!!! Works on EDGE... so no way to use ATT 3g
Sell it and buy a Rogers Magic phone from Canada, which works on ATT 3G.
wow so thats my option...
Easiest method is to set the APN settings yourself.
You can also load a custom rom which is auto configured.
You will not get 3G but you can get Edge, otherwise go with a Rogers Magic...mine is working fine on AT&T 3G.
yeah definitely go for the Rogers its worth it, edge is unacceptable in 2009.

That is so true. Thats why I have the Rogers Magic. Tmobile had no 3G in my area for a while.
ok, so let me ask you this... i will exchange it for a rogers phone.. so now i can use it on my ATT account 3g.. However, which plan do I get and how much is it monthly?
anyone know?
I have worked for both of the companies of said phone/plan. They are different networks. I suggest using the medianet plan on the myt3g, OR see if you can trade your mt3g for a Rogers Magic.
Or, the option I am going to wait for (seeing how I have T-Mobile currently) is to buy the new NexusOne when it's available.
no, but what i mean is are there any data plans less than $30/mo unlimited for 3g on att?
Pick a voice plan (cheapest is 39.99/m), add unlimited data 15$/m. Thats the cheapest option on ATT.
Dont tell them you have a mytouch/rogers phone, just ask for a sim card on its own.
If you can get a family member on board, you can get unlimited data knocked down to 10$/month.
Merry Xmas.
Ok but will that unlimited data for $15/mo be 3G or EDGE?
Merry Christmas to you too!

Your MyTouch runs on 1700mhz spectrum while ATT runs 3g on 850mhz. So you'll be running on EDGE not 3G.
Then why am I being told to get a ROGERS/MYTOUCH so I can utilize 3G???
I am so confused.... Now you are saying i can only use EDGE..
Please someone clear this up.. phones cost over $400... i dont want to buy it and be stuck on EDGE..
anyone????

/sigh.... If you get a Rogers Version of the Mytouch (which is called Magic) you will be able to use 3g services. On top of that Rogers Magic has a different amount of Ram vs. MyTouch. You will be flashing 32A roms instead of 32B roms. If you feel you are confident enough to flash the Radio and SPL then you will be able to use 32B roms instead of 32A roms. Searching Google does help as well fyi.
When i started using my Skyrocket i noticed my data was very patchy(would work here and there and not let me open certain websites and speedtest.net app was not connecting at all). I looked into the APN settings and noticed it said "PTA". I looked into this and found out that it was for the new LTE network. I do not live near a LTE area nor do i think ill be getting it anytime soon(i live in south new jersey). So i googled at&t hspa+ settings and found this forum that gave the settings for hspa+ and mms and rebooted my Skyrocket. Boom! Ping times down to 80 and speedtest.net app connects asap. Every single thing i do that involves internet is instant. If you dont have LTE in your area i highly recommend doing this.

I live in Maine, we don't even have "4g", let alone lte. I have not messed with my APN settings and data has been flawless for me. I get 3.5-4mb consistently at my house (3g) where I used t get anywhere from 500kb-2.5mb, with a rare spike of 3mb. I also have yet to try anything data wise on my phone that was "blocked" or didn't work.
This temporary solve the problem. At&t is behind this. Take a look at your plan. From I'm seen the Unlimited plan I was grandfather in has restrictions impulse . The 2GB data plan said you could freely stream, search ect. Calling at&t wtf is this BS. Piss off

Data speeds vary so widely depending on 100's of factors. The "speedtest" apps themselves are barely reliable, you can run them 5 times in a row and get huge variations. You can't get true results based on one 5 second download. One time I get 10ms ping and 5 seconds later I get 9,500ms. One time I get .2Kbps and 5 seconds later I get 9MBps download.
Most of these speed test results and their fixes are just smoke and mirrors and the "results" are totally meaningless because they will vary from one SECOND to the next.

Yep, it's probably to get you off the unlimited plan.
Just call AT&T and tell them what kind of bull**** is this, ***** for a long time, threaten to cancel your service and go to Verizon for an LTE network that's faster (lies) and spread out more, and I'm sure they'll come to some agreement.
I am on an an unlimited plan i have had many phones that never had this issue and my data was consistant. I knew it had to do with the APN. FOR ME this worked. It seemed like my skyrocket was picky about websites and facebook did not want to refresh and the issue with the soeedtest.net app wasnt its accuracy it simply would not connect AT ALL. It just never found a connection. When i would use wifi everything worked perfect for me and still does. I did not delete the stock APN so when lte comes around ill just go back but for now im back to my normal CONSISTANT bandwidth. And im clocking faster speeds at my house than any other phone ive used

good so we can lay this to rest that
1) the new PTA APN is restricted, and it DOES NOT matter if you have an unlimited grandfather plan or a 2GB plan. it's JUST AT&T blocking certain website
2) there is NO secret/conspiracy with AT&T trying to get unlimited grandfather plan people to switch to the 2GB plan, because regardless which plan one has, if you are using the PTA APN... it's restricted.
I added the apn to my list and now I can access the Justin.TV site. Thanks for the input.

Under the hspa apn I made, the market its really slow on downloading. Anyone else? How do I get the browser to stop refreshing on xda?
I just purchased a brand new Galaxy S II Skyrocket (AT&T) online (not from AT&T directly), the phone is amazing. But I can not get a data connection on the phone. Wifi works fine, and I can make and receive calls and send and receive sms but no data connection at all.
My previous phone an HTC hero (was a version from canada I think for Rogers) works fine and has for years. I just took the sim from that phone popped it into the new skyrocket expecting all to be well, but no dice, no data connection on the new skyrocket.
My first guess was that I needed to change some settings on the phone, I seem to recall needing to do that on the Hero when I first got it years back. After searching around though there dont seem to be any settings to change that would make a differance. Maybe I only needed to change something beacuse the old phone wasnt actually AT&T but Rogers? I'm not sure.
My second thought was maybe the newer phones use a newer type of sim card. I think I've had my current sim card through at least 3 phones. It says 3G on it but I may have had it before my Hero, and the HTC Tilt before that, and even with my old motarola flip phone from way back.
I took it into Best Buy to ask them about the sim cards and the guy there told me the ones they use look just like the one I have (still say 3G on them).
I am trying to avoid going directly to AT&T with this as I have a very old plan that I was transfered into back when it was Cingular wireless, and I am hoping and praying that I dont need to get transfered into some other plan. I know my current plan has a data package it has been working on my old HTC tilt, followed by my HTC Hero fine for years and years now. Unless there is some distinction between my data plan and some new data plan required for new phones?
I am at my wits end and really hope I didnt waste 500 bucks on this amazing phone any suggestions any of you might have would be very very very appreciated.
You need to call att and tell them that you have a skyrocket now. You can keep your current plan, you just gotta let them know you have that phone. No biggie at all. A new sim card may be necessary as well. Which can be picked up at your local store. You'll be fine. And enjoy your new skyrocket.

I had the same problem when I went into Best Buy to get my Skyrocket. The mobile data would not work no matter what the idiot employees tried. They used my old SIM card even though I said I was pretty sure the Skyrocket needed a new one.
I finally got a little upset and took the phone to the AT&T store. The guy that helped me was pretty cool and gave me a new SIM card. Mobile data started working right away lol
Stopped by AT&T and ..well unfortunetly that couldn't have gone much worse...
I was told my current plan "has unlimited data, but you don't have a data plan so you can't use that phone"
So now I'm going to get stuck with another $70 a month on top of what I was already paying, to have less minutes and less data than I did before...
On top of that, there was something odd on my account or something and they couldn't just add a $30 data plan to it, they couldnt even cancel it and start new. So now I am waiting for someone from customer service to call me "maybe this week" so they can fix what ever it is so they can finish taking more of my money.... *sigh*

I'd definitely have to agree with the two above me. If you had the original unlimited data plan, it WILL grandfather over into the LTE plans. Sounds like they're trying to jank you into paying for a completely new, added line, but leaving the data plan you already had before on there. Therefore, technically paying for TWO lines. If the rep seriously couldn't get rid of something that was on your plan before, he seriously doesn't know what he's doing and just tried a manual workaround that would work. You'd be amazed how easy it is to change/add/remove things to your plan in their system.

Basically. That at&t rep is just trying to **** you over. You should be able to
use your current plan on this device. All that's needed is a new sim. Nothing more,
nothing less.
lyndone58's solution worked for me. I typed in his first suggested APN and now I have 4G. No trip to the at&t store necessary. I just took the mini sim card out of my iphone, cut up a credit card and stuck the mini sim in the middle of it and stuck it in my skyrocket. No new sim card necessary. All is well with this fix. Thanks.
1st. There is NO such thing as an LTE sim card. Its just APN settings done OTA by AT&T. I know of people with the old 64k Cingular cards in LTE phones.
But this sounds like an sim card issue. One of my 3 skyrockets on my family plan has had this issue and we finally changed his sim card and working.
Is anybody using this phone with Straight Talk? I'm curious if you can get LTE with ST or if it would be limited to HSPA+ ??? I'm assuming you need a special APN for the LTE. Any info would be appreciated, thanks!

LTE seems to cause less of a load on their network. I assume so because ATT has a higher limit on LTE, and cause verizon has been giving, grandfathered in, unlimited users, a free LTE phone. Well, those with very high data usage.
This makes me assume that they would want the same for the usage of MVNOs. That would cause them to have a ST LTE option.
These may have been a series of compounded assumptions (which is never a good idea), but i wish someone would look into it

I have heard that doing the right mix between Straight Talk and AT&T LTE settings it has worked in areas of course where there is LTE but i am not sure if it was using a AT&T sim and registering it to Straight Talk or if it was just use a reg Straight Talk sim. Any ways i have seen people doing it but no one sharing info so i will try and test things as you should and if anyone gets it working pls share as that the purpose of this comunity
Does anyone know what the correct settings are for APN to get data and MMS working for the G2x with Staight Talk and a CM7 stable build ROM?
I have tried literally everything, and nothing works. I briefly saw Edge network for about 3 minutes one morning, but that's it. No 4G and no MMS.
Please let me know ASAP. Thanks so much!!
Apparently I have to post ten times before entering "outside links" (even though they're APN settings). So here goes a bunch of annoying bumps...
And I have to wait five minutes between each post? This is ungodly annoying. Anyway, here's the APN settings, sort of:
Name: StraightTalk ATT
APN: att.mvno
Proxy: Not set
Port: Not set
Username: Not set
Password: Not set
Server: Not set
MMSC: http//)mmsc(.)cingular(.)com
MMSC proxy: 66(.)209(.)11(.)33
MMS port: 80
MCC: 310
MNC: 410
Authentication Type: Not set
APN type: default,supl,mms
APN protocol: IPv4
APN enable/disable: APN enabled (tick mark checked but grayed out anyways)
Bearer: Unspecified
Because of this boards overly aggressive anti spam security, I had to put some of the characters in the addresses above in parentheses. Just remove the start and end parenthesis to deduce the setting.
I still am utterly lost as to why they need email verification + captcha + no web links + wait five minutes between posts. The captcha itself would suffice.
If you're using an att straight talk sim, u won't get 4g on the g2x. Different radio frequencies..

Well that's good to know. But I thought I could pick between T-mobile and AT&T with the same SIM, yes? I just have to choose the right MVNO, which it seems you're saying is the T-mobile one, yes?
Any and all help is very much appreciated!
No. You need a T-Mobile straight talk sim to get 4g service. With att straight talk sim you will only get edge. They give different sims for each gsm provider.

Okay this is ridiculously good to know, as I'll be able to spend another 15 bucks and get the thing to work. Thanks so much I'll try this and see what happens...
... incidentally, when I purchased the phone, I just selected "GSM compatible phone" which apparently means AT&T and not T-mobile....

Call them and see if they will send another sim, its worth a shot..
And technically gsm compatible phone could be att or T-Mobile. I think they assume att though because att provides better coverage.

Well, I got the new SIM (they didn't offer to send me one, btw), and I put in this information:
Name: Straight Talk
APN: wap.tracfone
Port: 8080
MMSC: http://mms.tracfone.com
Left everything else default/blank and sure enough, still no data. I just transferred the service over to the new SIM, so I hope this is just some sort of delay that is normal (the website says it could take 24 hours, but this seems kind of bizarre to me). Can anyone confirm?
