Well I just got my At&t Fuze like 3-4 days ago. For some reason it randomly loses connection to the network, so I can make call or use the internet. I'll have to go back to setting- communication to turn off my phone turn it back on then turn on the data connection. I'm really tiring of it happening over and over again. Does anyone else have this problem? And are there any ways to fix it? Thanks
No one has any idea??
Are you still running the stock ROM? If so, GET RID OF IT!!!!
In all seriousness: Have you installed any applications? Have you modified TouchFLO 3D? You can always try a hard reset and see if the problem persists.
It's possibly a problem with AT&T's network. I've noticed that my 3G speeds are incredibly slow lately and others on hofo have had this issue as well. I would advise you to wait it out.
forp me it says i get 3g,edge, or G and i will cant connect sometimes.
I also have this issue. Sometimes it happens after a soft reset or for no reason at all. It is easy to fix as i just turn data back on but I don't know why it is happening.
I actually tried a hard reset reset and it didn't work so then I brought it back to At&t and the guy there fixed it for me. He said it was because the data connection was off so then I thought maybe I accidentally turned it off, but the problem persist after.
Yes, I am still running under stock rom, I installed google map, beejive, and some other that I don't think will cause this problem. I am afraid to flash because I already have a lot of contact info set in and data and would have to re-do everything.
I was hoping maybe someone would have a solution for this. I don't think running on stock rom would cause this.....
Any help would be great. Thanks
I just flash it to NATF's rom and it's working really well right now. I hope the problem will not appear again. Again thanks for the rom NATF
I now get it often that there is a problem with the GPRS in your area. Also there are times that the phone is not even connected. It is getting to be a pain but will try calling AT&T and find out
Even after installing a new rom the problem still continue. I tried going into an At&t store and ask, but they have no clue. I don't have time to call 611 right now, but will update with what they say when I do. It starts to get really annoying....

It's probably a network issue.
Regarding flashing, I suggest you back up your contacts with outlook. Even if the problem has nothing to do with software, you're missing out quite a bit in terms of speed. Besides, you should back up your contacts regardless. Don't trust windows mobile too much
OK, sounds like I'm not the only one experiencing this problem. I think the only thing that's different for me is that when I lose the data connection, I also lose voice. The first time it happened, it said my SIM was unprovisioned. When I called customer service, they didn't know beyond checking for network outages in my area.
Fuze_tactic & Tribalmunky
I thing both of your problems -- intermittently dropping the data connection for Fuze_tactic, and intermittently dropping the voice and data connection for Tribalmunky -- could be caused by the Long Press End button setting. Go to Start/Settings/System/LongPressEndKey to see what I'm talking about. There is one setting for Airplane mode, which would kill voice and data, and another for killing just the data connection. Try changing the long end key press to Set Vibrate/Ringer and see if that cures your issue(s). If you are occasionally long pressing the end key, your should develop a problem with intermittently losing your ringer.

No, I've checked that. It happened once when it was just charging, no where near my hands or anything that could have pressed it. When it happens I can't make calls or reestablish data connections until I either go in the connections manager or soft reset.

Like tribalmunky said we were no where near the phone when it happens, but I follow your instruction and changed the long pressed key. I'll see if anything occurs. Thanks for the input tho.
Update:
I called At&t and from what tech support told is, their network is having problems, especially for users in Cali. They are in progress of fixing it, but no idea how long it is going to take. I guess the only thing we can do now is wait.

I've been having problems with this too (losing data and phone) and I'm in Seattle. Maybe if I call, AT&T will claim there are problems with the entire west coast.
I did the whole SPL and ROM flashing thing (ROMeOS) and the problem still persists. I chatted online with an AT&T guy and he said it was a known issue but no way to fix it yet.
If you're worried about your contacts, don't be. Use PPCPimBackup (I think I got it either here or at freewarepocketpc.net) and it can copy all of your contacts onto the storage card. It's free and I've used it prior to flashing a new ROM.
However, flashing ROMs do not work. The only fix is simply going to your communications settings, turning off Data, then turning it right back on. This will also be why some of your MMS pictures don't get sent out.
I still love this phone, just get annoyed with it at times. Even the available larger battery with cover only makes my phone last about two days opposed to one.

I am in NJ and have the same problem. It started about the time I loaded some screen lock software that requires a finger swipe to unlock the touch screen (navigation buttons always active) upon coming out of sleep mode. I just decided to live with it, I like the software. I merely click the data connection in settings, connections, data connection (it may indicate off or on, doesn't matter, it is actually off) and then click it on and everything works again. Mostly happens after charging overnight.
I have stock fuze and it keeps happening to me too. But whenever I reset my phone, I can connect to the internet. I don't think it's network related in my case. not sure though.
Verizon Users Getting Stuck in 1X --- PLEASE READ!
For those of you who have the plaguing problem of your data connection dropping to 1X, I'm trying to spearhead this issue with Verizon and need your help.
Everytime I open a ticket, it get's closed stating that it's a signal issue with a specific location. We all know that this is not the case. I finally have got ahold of a Tech supervisor who gave me all of his contact information so that we could ALL direct our issue to him. He would then get it elevated through the proper channels and then hopfully they can find a fix. It's my hope that we can all email or call him and explain our issue. He was very nice to work with on the phone and said he is dedicated to getting the problem resolved. I think he's looking at this from a global look rather than an isolated one like every other tech I've spoken to.
Here is his contact information:
Kevin Drakeford

Please email or call him with your information and make sure to inform him all of the steps that you've tried that have been unsuccessful (new phone, hard reset, etc etc).
I will try and follow up with him later in the week. Msg here if you contacted him. Hopefully we can get this fixed and be left with just an awesome working phone!
I emailed the guy, it happened once a week when I was on the VZN rom.
dezoris, what rom are you using now? does it not get stuck in 1x?
just curious...
I had this problem on stock VZN ROM and still have it on MightyMike ROM...
Sent Kevin a message
I sent him one!
I haven't had my phone 2 months & this is pissing me off!
I have also had a complete loss of data connection period! Grrrrr
After doing the *228 & option 2 to sync with tower. Got WORSE!

I haven't had any problems like that with my Verizon Touch Pro 2, that goes for the stock Verizon ROM and the MightyMike one I'm currently using.
This has happened to me a couple of times. It is VERY annoying. and i KNOW it's not a signal issue. What kind of "debugging" should i do before i email the vzw manager guy? I don't want to send an email without doing a little debugging work. That way i seem like i know what i'm talking about.
PS. i agree, this is probably not an isolated issue.
I work at a large international airport in a metro area. It goes without saying there is a ton of cell capacity in the area.
Yet I continually drop to 1X when on a data connection. I always thought this was just "one of those things" or something to be expected. You are saying it is not but a bug in the product/ software / rom, etc?
Happens to be about once every other day. And I just soft reset and it goes back to normal.... Sucks I know.
Just stumbled on this thread and thought I would comment -- my TP2 is actually on Sprint and not VZW, but I've seen this problem fairly frequently even going back to my old Mogul/Titan, so it seems to be a legacy CDMA issue. I think there are two kinds of problems, though, so I am curious to know more about what people are experiencing.
First, as you know, incoming calls or SMS must drop the phone from EVDO to 1X -- this isn't usually a problem because it should snap right back to EVDO after the 1X packets are done. However, I have seen many occasions where it "sticks" on 1X *as long as the phone is still trying to transfer data* -- such as Exchange push or streaming Internet radio. If the phone keeps trying to access the data connection, it will stay in 1X indefinitely most of the time. If the data connection goes dormant for more than about 20 seconds, it seems to finally revert back to EVDO.
The other circumstance is where it seems to just drop to 1X and stay there, and not even cycling the radio on/off seems to make a difference -- you have to soft reset.
I guess what I am wanting to drill into is how many instances are of the first time and how many are of the second. It did take me a while to realize, for example, that if I got an SMS while listening to streaming radio, the data connection was going to drop to 1X and stay there until I closed the streaming radio app. Similarly, I often get as many as 2-3 emails a minute during peak times of the day (I know, my company needs to take some valium), so the constant Exchange syncs never give the data connection a long enough "break" to get back up to EVDO. The main point is, the first type of problem is more or less a CDMA protocol issue that we're probably stuck with, while the second type seems to be a definite bug with either the radio or the OS.
I notice the issue too, but worse it will go into and endless loop of popups letting me know of the situation and the only way to make them go away is to soft reset. Dismissing the popup just makes it come back again over and over. Calling this a legacy CDMA issue is bull as none of my other phones or Blackberries, even my piece of junk Storm have ever done this. Windows mobile needs to give us a decent radio to fix this. The only Verizon EVDO capable Winmobile device I have had that did not have this problem was the XV6700 so this has to be something to do with more recent devices. It has happened on HTC and Samsung devices, so it can't be manufacturer specific. It is the primary reason I moved most of my lines over to Blackberry. I got my wife one of those new Android phones, 1st the HTC one and when she decided she wanted a keyboard, the Moto one and neither one does this.
1x stuck
Same issues as everyone else here to.
i have found when i go to start/settings/connections and launch the comm manager, do do anything just launch it it corrects the issue.
thats strange but it has worked everytime for me.
Everyone whose having this issue on Verizon. Please please please email Kevin on post #1. Having one person as the sole contact on this issue WILL help get it worked out through Verizon. Kevin was very helpful and is a Tech Support Supervisor. Thanks!
Ok verified work around that works for me I'm on day 4 and im still on a EVDO connection.
1. Com manager
2. Press 3G connection and set your network type to auto.
3. dont press ok.
4. Press the X in the top right corner.
5. Soft reset.
So far this method has "fixed" my issue as of 4 days ago. Previously I would go 1 or 2 days before seeing the issue again.

I can't seem to find "3g Connection" as an option or setting under the com mananger. Am I looking in the wrong place? Which OS/ROM are you running?
I am on stock Verizon WinMo 6.1. Thanks for any help.
Sorry your right. Im running the CDMA energy rom. Yours should be stated as Data connection.
You should really consider upgrading your rom. I held out for a long time and just gave in.
I'm actually on verizon with tp2, Verizon is well aware of this issue(as far as i;m concerned). When I put on a custom rom, it showed up, however I needed to put back the default rom from verizon it went away. I put the energy rom back on and it's back. If verizon knows how to ship phones with that annoyance turned off can't we get a fix for the popups?
That pop up is most annoying!

Posible fix for stuck in 1x!
I'm going to go out on a limb here.
I posted in a coupl eother places and got no response on this which was original phone settings before I flashed
Same normal Phone settings for #777
BUT, the other read as follows:
VZWEmbedded
Log on: emsgsm.vzw3g.com
Pass: vzw (I tried our regular password & it worked)
In networking don't select on setup ie just your #777, set it to auto.
Here's my point:
No longer receiving multiple popups for: your device is registering on a voice line
More bars Show up now
Stay in 3g longer and now the phone calls up 3g for when data needs processing and data connection goes live as it should at this point.
Was using engery rom's nov 9 stable, worked with this switch
Now using Energys 6.5.3 28002 rom & working even better.
Running the same radio that came with phone version 1.88.
While i will drop periodically to 1x it does recover on it's own and isn't staying stuck.
Don't want to even look at 1x, update weather lol it works. So I am not to sure it's a hardware issue per say (maybe both who knows) since I have gotten rid of my popups. I'm not a programmer but sounds like a programming issue since it needs the 2nd set of connection strings.
What won't fix the issue is if you are in a bad area with very poor reception. I'm in the middle of a oak grove forest at the bottom of a hill and this is working for me.
Make sure you keep the 3g push in setting on and set to auto
Give ity a try!
Any thoughts on this?
oK AFTER much confusion on ppcgeeks, I need to calrify a few things.
This is a 2nd connection that you need to add.
The GSM is data, normally phone operates in cdma but it is making use of the gsm when over seas for email. It also uses gsm locally for data.
Since adding the 2nd connection all popups are gone. data connections are better on new rom then on stock rom.
If you've made use of JMZ Provisioing you already have the 1st connection under My ISP. Just add the 2nd as noted above and under select network make sure it is set to auto. This allows verizon to switch as needed.
This has been happening to me for about the past 2 weeks. I just e-mailed Kevin. I plan to take it to our on campus Verizon store next week.
I am running a stock ROM with SPB Powershell 3.5 on top of it. EVDO comes can goes. Usually once I try to use an app that requires data (Pocketwit, Opera or even ActiveSync) it drops me to 1X and never connects. I have also gotten several PPP (error code 11) errors. Before this time, the phone had been rock solid with EVDO.
Now my ActiveSync wont even work when I am at home. It only works at work due to being plugged in via USB.
Hope Kevin can help us get to the bottom of it.
I was stuck in 1X for the last few days. My problem was resolved by dialing *228 and pressing '1' to program.
I have 2 Microcells, one at my home and one at my office. It seems on both of them that I have a problem connecting to data about 50% of the time. Once I connect, it seems to work fine for a bit. But getting that initial connection can take some time on occasion. I don't ever recall having an issue like this with my Tilt 2.
Is anyone else experiencing this issue?
I have this issue with my device in general. It will say its connected but applications can't use the data. I at times need to either toggle wifi or airplane mode to get it to work correctly. This is incredibly annoying.
I just bought a micro tower and noticed this issue with captivate... haven't had time to look in to the problem... sometimes I can't access websites without refreshing several times, and sending data, ie pictures to gmail...
Update
Today I stopped in an AT&T store to see about possibly trying to exchange my phone for a new one to see if this was the issue.
The store rep called tech support, and what they said they did was they pushed an over-the-air update to both my microcells and my Captivate. When I got home, I power cycled my phone and microcell. Once the microcell regained connection, I restarted the phone again to be safe. I have been browsing the Android Market for about 30 minutes now, and have not had to refresh for data one time. Before I was lucky to go 5 minutes before the data cut out and I had to try and refresh several times. This seems to have fixed the problem.
AT&T tech support is to follow up with me on Monday to see if the issue is fixed. Seems for now that it is.
I am sort of at a loss. My Surround is losing it's celluar data settings every time I turn it off and boot it back up. The signal bars do no E, or G, or H or anything else. If I am not connected to wifi there is no data at all. Speaking of wi-fi, it also does not maintain most of my saved networks. The only one is does is the one at work.
I first ran into this after Mango RTM upgraded to final. I was having other issues (e.g. music search not working) and blamed it on the upgrade. At the time I WAS able to use the HTC connection setup to configure the cellular data connection. I finally did a complete wipe on it a couple of weeks ago; I flashed back to the original ROM release and let it spend the next couple of hours updating back to Mango. Everything seemed fine but in the last couple of days I have found the problem has returned. To make matters worse, I can't even seem to download the HTC connection setup app anymore.
I have tried multiple soft resets, battery pulls, booting up without the SIM and then booting up with it, etc. Anyone have any ideas on what is causing this and how to fix it? The phone is pretty useless as a smartphone without a data connection.

Try that rom :] You need to do a RSPL / HSPL thing first;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1195647
I suggest downgrading to a lower firmware and then doing so :] Mine does it from time to time aswell, Usually gets fixed when I--
1; get a call
2; turn wifi on or off
3; airplane mode
But even if it doesnt show the network type, It always works

Thanks. 1, 2, and 3 definitely don't fix it. It might be worth going with the custom ROM just so that it's unlocked and saves me from having to pay for the official unlock down the road sometime. One other thing is that around the same time I started getting some screen wonkiness. I would be trying to type something and the keyboard kept minimizing back to the bottom every few characters. Mainly only affected text messages though.
I decided to call AT&T to see if they might be able to force a refresh of the data settings. Since I've called them before on the problem the guy thinks it best to replace the phone. Guess we'll see what happens. May still do the ROM you suggested once I get it though.
Bleeping bleep bleep phone! Someone in a different thread suggested HTC might be able to help with an issue like this. Only solution they gave was a hard reset so I finally did that on I think it was Thurs or Fri. Everything was dandy at first. Fast forward to today and I notice this evening that my phone had lost it's settings again and once more I can't get them back. I also notice that it ate my saved wifi networks again.
I have the refurb device AT&T sent and I suppose I will go ahead and try to use it. I just hate having to set everything up...again. It's really getting old. Could my SIM card be to blame?
Haha. Going to be attending the local WP Insider Circle thing next week. Maybe I'll get lucky and win a new phone.
So I've had my m8 since launch, about May of 2014. I've never once had a problem with my wifi, until last week. All of a sudden, I noticed all of my wifi connections (home, work, etc) are all extremely slow. Speed tests are barely getting 1mbps down or up, and the test itself is very erratic, bobbing up and down the whole time. All my other devices are fine, and nothing with any of my wifi connections has changed. I uninstalled about 3 apps that I had installed within the last month, with no change. Verizon sent me a replacement m8, and I got it yesterday, loaded up all my stuff, and low and behold, still slow wifi.
After talking with numerous Verizon techs, they can't solve it, even after multiple factory resets. However, this morning I saw a post while googling it, not an m8 but still android. They said that if Bluetooth is on, but not connected to a device, it could cause issues. So I turned my bluetooth off, and speeds were perfect, getting exactly what my internet connection is. Turned it back on, and back to 1mbps.
So one, why is this happening? I've read that the bluetooth and wifi antennas are the same, and that could cause interference, but it should not be this bad. Second, why did this just now all of a sudden start? I didn't usually leave bluetooth on, but I got a new car about 3 months ago, and decided to leave it on to automatically connect when I'm driving. But it was fine until last week, why the change?
Have you discovered anything new? I've had my Verizon m8 since April 2014 and have always left bluetooth on for my fitbit to sync. I only recently started having problems and can't identify any recent update that happened this month that would cause it. When bluetooth is on and a device is connected my wifi performance is very slow - 100+ ms ping, 1-2Mbps up/down doing a speedtest. Turn bluetooth off and speed test again then wifi performance jumps to 20Mbps up/down with 12ms ping times to the same speedtest server.
I have factory reset my phone 3 times, changed wifi channels, tried 2 different routers and 1 access point. None of the wifi changes affected speeds until bluetooth was turned off. It seems to be a little quicker 3-5 Mbps with bluetooth on and no devices paired but still that's not acceptable.

I too have had bluetooth on for months to be able to connect to my car, never had a problem until about a month or so ago. I did two factory resets, and everything seemed to work fine, but after a day or so, when all my apps were back on the phone, it would start up again. I have a hard time believing a specific app is doing this, unless it was one of the HTC Home updates or something.
Verizon sent me a replacement M8, I got all my apps on it, and the same thing, after a day or so it's super slow with Bluetooth on, horrible ping and less than 2mbps down and up.
So then I contacted HTC directly, did all their troubleshooting, factory reset, and it's still there. They sent me a replacement as well. I turned it on, but did not put my sim into it. I spent 2 days with it, and only downloaded the Speedtest app, nothing else. Speeds are fine with bluetooth on. I then downloaded the rest of my apps (I actually do have quite a few apps, so if it's one of them it will be a pain to figure out which one). It's been two days now and speeds are still good with bluetooth on. Later today I'm going to offically move over to this phone and put my sim in it.
It's just really frustrating to keep turning bluetooth off and on again, and there should be no reason for this to be happening out of the blue all of a sudden.

Strange issue, but from how you described it, it must be a 3rd party application. What I would do in this situation, is do the factory reset, and download 5 apps at a time. Until you narrow it down to the 5 apps that are causing the issue, then you can narrow it down much easier out of the 5 applications. A pain, yes. but once you figure out the app that's causing the issue, you may decide you don't need it, or you only use it once in awhile and can remove it, until you need it, or possibly download an app ops application from the Playstore and remove the Bluetooth permissions and see if that fixes it.
Best of luck.
Seems to help...
I just tried the solution offered in another forum (xda won't let me post the link so I'll copy and paste the information here:
Open page with the available "Wi-Fi" networks (Settings, WI-FI)
Tap on the "3 dots" in the upper right corner
"Wi-Fi Direct"
Tap on the "3 dots" in the upper right corner
"Rename device"
Replace "Android_ed2c" with "HTC One" (or whatever you want) and hit "OK"
Before doing this I had a 300ms ping when Bluetooth is on, and very low bandwidth. Now with Bluetooth on the wifi ping is around 50ms (normal for my home internet) and the bandwidth is back to normal. Time will tell if it sticks, but so far so good!
So I had been running all my apps on my replacement phone for about a week now, and have had no problems. The other day I officially swapped my sim card into this new phone, and for two days now, it's been fine. Bluetooth and wifi are on constantly, and I see no issues with bandwidth. So who knows why the last two devices had a problem, but for now it seems to be fixed.
Having the same issue, originally posted on reddit and then found this thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/techsupport/comments/3kv6z6/wifi_issues_with_multiple_phones/
Turned off bluetooth and it's fine... Will be experimenting with my gf's m8 this weekend.

Same HTC M8 issue - very slow WiFi when Bluetooth is running
Same problem on an HTC M8... speedof_dot_me speed test shows 96 ms latency with D/L at 0.07 mbps (really!) on an 11 mbps router. Turned off Bluetooth, and voilla! Latency dropped by 85% and WiFi speeds increased by a factor of 60! I suspect an HTC issue since an August or September update... since this wasn't occurring prior to August.
Verizon sent me a replacement M8 that was on 4.x.x android. I updated via on-air update (not rooted) to Lollipop and installed all my apps. Everything was fine. That night, it did a security update and, since then, my wifi+bluetooth were horked when turned on together.
Do, I did a factory reset (which doesn't undo the updates), but since doing the factory reset and installing just the basic Play-store updates 24 hours ago, the problem is not back.
I'm going to slowly add back my normal apps this time.
Solved on one plus one
Hello, i had since two weeks the similar issue. when bluetooth is switchef on (unconnected), wifi is very slow. in the past this different, so no issue with hardware and frequencies. Finally, I found out that it was linked to an App that accesses Bluetooth.
In my case it was the App Accu-Chek, I read in a big forum that it was linked to a Garmin app.
Uninstalling the App solved the issue.
My wife has a similar issue on Stock Galaxy S4 mini with that App.
This is definitely app-related. I tried force closing out of a bunch of apps that weren't related to the video I was playing and it seemed to fix the bandwidth issue with bluetooth enabled. Guess I'll need to experiment with closing certain apps until I find the culprit.
I was having this same problem. It looks like the RetailMeNot App was the culprit for me.

You sir deserve a cookie. Thanks for pointing out the worst app of 2015.
Solved on my Phone!
I used to have the same problem. I am having a Sony Xperia Z1 Compact and a Smartband Talk. At the beginning everything was fine but after sometime (strongly caused by a software related issue) I begin to face the same problem. While bluetooth is on WiFi bandwith dropped to a very little amount (around 0,02- 0,01 Mbits/s). Then I read somewhere, about how to verify whether it is a software or hardware issue via checking it in the Safe Mode. So I unpaired by smartband talk and uninstalled the smartband talk software (smartband talk requires a bluetooth connection for functioning). Then restarted my phone in to safe mode by tapping and holding the power off on the shutdown menu. I downloaded the smartband talk software and turned on my bluetooth and paired my smartband talk again. Then restarted my phone in to normal mode. And voila, problem solved.
It is not a guaranteed method but worth to try.
Wish you good luck.
