I have noticed after cm7 service signal is not that great with the infuse, i saw the modem section in the THREAD WITH ALL THE THE ROMS AND KERNELS , and i saw a few people were having some luck with one of the modems. Is there a particular modem for service i saw a few new ones have been added. any you recommend? thanks.
A MODEM ON THE INFUSE IS THE SAME THING AS A RADIO..say for like an atrix RIGHT?
Yes the modem is the radio as for which is best everyone gets different results you just have to try them and see what works best in your area

Waiting for UCKD5 CWM
I second that. Thank you, sir.

The size of modem.bin in both the files (UCKE3 and UCKD5) is the same -- 15,728,640 bytes.
Am not sure if all modem files are the same size or not, so putting this across to confirm myself that these two are what they are though the size is the same.
Um why do we need this? Not being a **** just wanna know

Cos some hardware gets better performance on certain radios. And many, if not all, love to experiment with different modems to see what suits them best. I love one with more battery compared to one with more speed.

I didn't yet. I was waiting for these CWM flashable files. I'll slowly flash these over time n let u know. And remember, after flashing a radio, give atleast about a week's time before u try to guage battery life.

They're both AT&T modems, the Infuse has never been sold by any other carrier. (That is going to change Tuesday...)
As to them both being the same size, that's common for partition/PROM/firmware raw images. They ARE different - different md5sums.
so what is the difference between the two?

Has anyone checked if there are differences beyond version strings? Then again, I don't see why you'd bother to recompile a modem to release a new firmware unless the modem had changes as well..
Just wanted to say that I've been waiting for new modems to try as the UCKE3 I was using was pretty poor in 3G performance. Where my old Captivate was getting solid 3G signals most of the time, for some reason I wasn't getting the same with the KE3 modem on my Infuse in the same locations and I was somewhat often getting only edge or no signal at all.
Having tried UCKD5 for a little bit, it seems like download speed is better and signal is much more solid so far. Need to do more testing, but I like it alot so far.

+1 to this. Looks like the signal is more stable in KD5 radio. Gotta see how it goes. Will report back after a day or two.

Trying it now
Had some serious issues with car bluetooth today morning on UCKD5... to the extent where I deleted the device and added it back. Getting back to UCKE3.

Pretty much not possible without major decompiler/disassembler experience.
The radios might even be encrypted.
Most likely E3 has a bunch of bugfixes not present in D5 since it's newer.

That was my gut feeling too... E3 is an improvised version of D5.
Flashed UCKD5 modem
The building I work in is notorious for killing the signal. I flashed the UCKD5 modem yesterday and so far it seems that I have better signal than with UCKE3. Will run this modem for a few days more then will try the other. I sometimes wonder what I'd accomplish if I weren't a phone junkie
What's the difference in the modem versions for the SGS4G? I read somewhere that they can get you better reception, but I guess which one is the best/newest one?
Sent from my Transformer TF101
The newest is Kj6 as it is from the official gingerbread release. And the “best” is going to vary on a user to user basis as some provide better coverage for certain users than others. I have a complete list in my guide linked in my signature if you would like to check them out

You can get better reception depending on what modem you use.
The latest one is KJ6...
There are a couple of threads that have many different modems in them to flash. You basically have to find which one works best in your area by trying them out yourself. Maybe reading those threads will give you an answer for where you are.
Or you can post where you are located in this thread and hope that another member may live near you and has already found the best modem for your area.
I hate it when I mobile reply and someone beats me to the punch..
Sorry for being off topic.
Hey everyone, I just rooted my Skyrocket (first time rooting any mobile device) and am ironing out some of the kinks. I'm using Seanz SKY ICS-UCLF6, found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1763195&highlight=rom
I would like some advice on Radios and Kernels for my device. I understand (sort of) what the radio does, but how am I supposed to know which one is the best for me? Currently, I just chose the one at the top of the list (UCALC4) and it seems to be working. But can someone tell me if this is a smart choice, or should I change it to another radio? Some say one will offer better call quality than another, but is there a way to know without trying each and every one?
A similar thing with the kernels. What exactly is the purpose of the kernel, and which one SHOULD I be using? Again, I'm running an AT&T Galaxy SII Skyrocket with Seanz SKY ICS-UCLF6. I'd be happy to answer any questions if it helps me get the most out of my device. I appreciate any help you could offer.
Thanks.
The kernel included in Sean's ROM should be adequate as that if what I'm using. Do a search in the general section of XDA to learn what a kernel does.
Radio and modem is the same thing. I use the 6 radio which works great for me in the Miami area.
You would do well to try 2 or 3 different radios and see which performs best in your area. Use one for a couple of days then clear cache and Dalvik cache and flash a different radio. And try that for a couple of days.

What's the best working modem for cm10? I've heard a lot of complaints so I wanna know what the best results you have been getting.

I don't think there is a "best" modem for CM10. From what I understand, it depends on your actual device, your distance from towers and your usage patterns (e.g. how often you hop from 3G to 4G). I could tell you my limited experience with various modems and CM10, but it could prove to be unhelpful for your specific case. That said, the G7 modem worked better for me on both AOSP and JB/TW roms. I live in a cellular blackhole and my phone bounces between basic phone service coverage to 3G to 4G. When I was using the latest modem (K1 I think) and an AOSP rom, I don't think I ever saw my phone get a lock on 4G. And TW roms would always say "Network Extender" (instead of Verizon Wireless) on the lock screen.
In short, try 'em out for a day or two and see which one works best for you.
Every radio/modem is going to give every single user a different experience. There is no single "best" one because everybody gets various results. What's "best" for me may not be "best" for you. Only advice i can give you is to try out different ones and if you find that gives you really good results then stick with it, there's no reason to fix something that ain't broken
Okay. Thanks both of you! I live in a cellular black hole too and am very surprised I get to send texts at all because its just my phone,my bros iPhone, and Motorola phones that even get service in my house. I'll try swapping them around a bit starting with the factory one and ending with newest. Thanks!

I have unlocked my skyrocket and am using T-Mobile network....I'm trying radios from both this forum and the T-Mobile sgs2 forum but im wondering what carriers radio i should be using?
Edit: it seems ive found a winner...
The at&t radio. 1727 UCLL3 seems to be very fast.
search... there"s a thread down below about this
If you're in an area where T-Mobile has the 1900mhz frequency for data you should be good with a stock skyrocket radio, UCLL3 is a good radio..If T-Mobile is still using the AWS band for data around you, you should flash a T-Mobile S2 radio, no radio is the best, try for yourself and see what gives you the best performance...
Thanks I am still having issues...
I thought I had found a good radio, the one I mentioned above....but it went straight to edge after about 30 minutes lol.
This is killing me lol I feel like I'm flashing for a lost cause ...but I'm still flashing.

What's up short. Nice to see you around. Stopping in more to say hello. I'm on ATT so I'm not facing any of those issues. I guess this is where I get to say TMOB SUCKS. lol Try the stock Rogers radio UXUMA7. If you haven't found it there's links to all the radios in a sticky in the Dev section. Good luck bro.
Hey Hechoen!
Lol good to see a familiar here.
Yea i know att has better faster data lol but all carriers have their ups and downs lol.
Yea ive been in the stickies for 3days now in this forum and the T-Mobile forum studying both sides to this phone...truely like this skyrocket...just a pain in the a** trying to get fast data....its ok just not right....a bit slow on streaming and surfing.
I'm now using. I727UCLF6
and so far so good.
What ROM ?

What rom are you using? Are you getting faster then edge? I'm only getting edge using embryo 6.7 and ucll3 radio. My friends say call quality is excellent but my data speed is non existent.
Embryo 6.5
The best radio what i did test in my skyrocket are uxuma7, of coarse, that is with Stock leak Samsung rom (ej. embryo all version). I looking for a best radio in cm 10.0.0 because the stock radios like UXUMA7 or UCLL3 does not work with these roms. Can someone help me about that?? I need a link with a list of radios to choose for my Skyrocket ATT.
That would be located in the stickies

That would be in the T-Mobile galaxy s2 forum under the stickies tab in development.....
No different than in this forum.
