Skyrocket on tmobile...what radio? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

I have unlocked my skyrocket and am using T-Mobile network....I'm trying radios from both this forum and the T-Mobile sgs2 forum but im wondering what carriers radio i should be using?
Edit: it seems ive found a winner...
The at&t radio. 1727 UCLL3 seems to be very fast.

search... there"s a thread down below about this

If you're in an area where T-Mobile has the 1900mhz frequency for data you should be good with a stock skyrocket radio, UCLL3 is a good radio..If T-Mobile is still using the AWS band for data around you, you should flash a T-Mobile S2 radio, no radio is the best, try for yourself and see what gives you the best performance...

Thanks I am still having issues...
I thought I had found a good radio, the one I mentioned above....but it went straight to edge after about 30 minutes lol.
This is killing me lol I feel like I'm flashing for a lost cause ...but I'm still flashing.

What's up short. Nice to see you around. Stopping in more to say hello. I'm on ATT so I'm not facing any of those issues. I guess this is where I get to say TMOB SUCKS. lol Try the stock Rogers radio UXUMA7. If you haven't found it there's links to all the radios in a sticky in the Dev section. Good luck bro.

Hey Hechoen!
Lol good to see a familiar here.
Yea i know att has better faster data lol but all carriers have their ups and downs lol.
Yea ive been in the stickies for 3days now in this forum and the T-Mobile forum studying both sides to this phone...truely like this skyrocket...just a pain in the a** trying to get fast data....its ok just not right....a bit slow on streaming and surfing.

I'm now using. I727UCLF6
and so far so good.

What ROM ?

What rom are you using? Are you getting faster then edge? I'm only getting edge using embryo 6.7 and ucll3 radio. My friends say call quality is excellent but my data speed is non existent.

Embryo 6.5

The best radio what i did test in my skyrocket are uxuma7, of coarse, that is with Stock leak Samsung rom (ej. embryo all version). I looking for a best radio in cm 10.0.0 because the stock radios like UXUMA7 or UCLL3 does not work with these roms. Can someone help me about that?? I need a link with a list of radios to choose for my Skyrocket ATT.

That would be located in the stickies

data speed
I need a good tmobile modem 2 when I flashed embryo 6.7 and blaze theres no good data speed or signal blaze was working good on sky jellybean I dont lile stock radios cuz they switch bands to often drains battery blaze was a good stable modem sucks embryo doesnt support it

That would be in the T-Mobile galaxy s2 forum under the stickies tab in development.....
No different than in this forum.

Coming Back to the Tbolt

Okay so I was on a few different LTE devices for a while (Charge and Revo) , and I am about to be back on a Thunderbolt in a few days.
When I was originally on the Tbolt, it was April, we barely had a Gingerbread Leak and I believe MR2 had been leaking around.
My question to you guys is, what's the best root method currently (ADB, or Revolutionary?) and also....
What radio should I be on when I get the device to be able to enjoy most of the roms out there. I'm hoping to be able to enjoy some Gingerbread.
Sorry for the newbness as I have been a crack flasher with Odin and other Samsung stuff that I completely lost track of Tbolt development.

It's all in my thread linked in my sig. If you have any questions, post them there or PM me and I'll be happy to get you up to speed.
haha, what a coincidence, i just got done reading your entire thread.
So basically its the same as before.. all GB based roms are working on ANY MR2 radio.
Gotcha
What radio do you recommend? at the time when I left the Tbolt, MR2 was causing reboots on people.
Also, is the recovery that revolutionary comes with a decent one in terms of being able to perform backups, etc?

best radio is subjective.
some people for some reason still believe radios from 6 months ago are better than current ones.

The most recent CWM is good, but the early 5.x releases had some issues. Not sure what the newest one is. I'm still on 3.something... cuz it just works.
There's a lot of opinion in radios. Right now I'm using the RUU 1.70 CDMA radio with the RUU 2.11.605.3 LTE radio. Generally there's not a big difference. I'd say the 2.10 and newer radios, including the 1.70 radios, are probably the most popular at the moment.
I seem to get better download speeds with the 802 radio than the 906. Not sure about the lte one yet though. Is there a combined release of the 906 for cdma and lte

The radio could be anyone of the GB radios. Best bet is to take a few for a drive and see what works best for you. I use the 802 with good results. I used Revolutionary and everything was soooooo easy. The recovery in revolutionary is very easy too. The only big question is what ROM to use. I would suggest to try the one that lasts a long time (name omitted because of a spat between this forum and their Devs). I hope you can read beween the lines. And there's a host of AOSP ROM's too. Good luck and let us know what you choose.

[Q] Any good ICS solution for Rogers users as of April 2nd?

I've read through the threads on all the forums, and nothing definitive yet. Also things are changing so fast over the last few days, I figured this needed asking.
I'm hearing people say that some of the zip cooked ROMs can be installed on the 727R but only if you have the leak installed first with ODIN.
When I go through the leaked ROM thread, it says it doesn't work on Roger's Skyrockets.
So is there any way to take a stock, or non-stock GB ROM and get either the leaked ROM or a cooked ROM onto a 727R?
Thanks
This works on Rogers. I flashed this from stock rooted Rogers GB.

but to be honest my battery has been draining alot with this leak. also seems alot unstable atm. i know go ahead bash me but ive tried every rom to see if it would settle or be stable. but none so far and im just wondering if this leak is a problem for canadians or for "rogers" especially.
i didn't see anything about rogers incompatibility in this thread?

+1 today it's been unstable for me a lot and the battery leak is still happening
I think there may be slight differences between the Skyrocket & Rogers version, that only Samsung know about.
One only has to look at the Samsung Focus 1.3 & 1.4 revisions. Both are identical except for a minor difference, but it caused major headaches for MS when pushing updates. It wouldn't surprise me if Samsung does the same on the Android side.
So with this leak your running an unfinished ROM, & one that may not be intended for your revision of hardware
i think that could very well be true. because of this battery drain 2-3% every less than half hour is like does this rom really feel it should be like this. also reboot issues, rom hanging in here & there, its not about the "work-around" but actual work seems very unstable. their devs are even soo stupid that when i ripped dialer.apk they spelled dailer in 1 of the imgs rather then dialer..it made me laugh soo hard..

I'm a newb so I can't post over there to find out if anyone else saw the same issue... maybe I did something wrong but everything else seemed to be great?
Thank you everyone for responding. Gonna wait a few days and see how this plays out for Rogers uses. Hope other Rogers users post results here.
If you are on Rogers, flash the thing from the second post then flash any of the other ICS ROMs.
GB-->ICS works
I used ICSMOD5 from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1566820
What I did:SGH-i727R
My ROM was running Malice from T989, with Streamline Kernel.
1)Backup!
2)Factory Reset
3)Advanced - Wipe Dalvik
4)Manual reset: - Mounts and storage, Format system, data & cache
5)Flash UCLA4 ICS radio
6)Flash the ICSMOD5_wipe version
7)Boot
8)Wait...wait even more...don't panic...
9)Enjoy
Everything including data and gps, and time issues were okay.
On the apex launcher, the messenger icon is bonked, just remove the shortcut and put the messaging shortcut again.
Wifi Tether: Starts up via toggle mod, can set password and stuff, computer connects to it but no data goes thru.
Will report back on battery use and possible issues.
So far so good.

Flash this modem http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=24140728&postcount=5
Then type *#2263# into the Phone and Select "[4] LTE Band Preference" then "[7] LTE ALL". Once you get an LTE signal, then type *#2263# again and this time Choose "[1] Automatic" and it should work.
I've had to do this a few times, but I have gotten stable LTE on all the ICS builds so far.
i keep getting unknown id on my calls instead of it showing the number

I've been running Smooth Ice for almost 2 weeks with no issues. The first ROM I used to upgrade from GB was the one just called 'Working Rogers ICS ROM', or something like that. I used Superlite and then went to Smooth Ice and have no complaints.
well not to put my team's rom up. but if you use our rom after we're gonna update today you are not gonna wanna leave it =).. you think you had enough with other roms. haha you have seen nothing yet.

Did a search, still not 100% clear

Im rooted and I am about to flash a new kernel, Im not going to do any romming yet since the ICS update should be coming by the end of the month (should be). I was just wondering what is the best modem/radio for the skyrocket. I currently have UCLA3 and I live in Grand rapids, MI. I dont believe we get LTE here, but I am usually on 4G. I searched but couldnt really find anything solid. Thanks!
You already have latest GB radio UCLA3.
I like the ucle2 radio on all roms. My favorite combo is nexus mod gb 4.3 with that radio and the faux kernel.
But everyone has different results in different geographic locations, it seems. Ucla3 is known to be a very good radio in most areas.
I don't have lte in my area either...

Yeah.. I wouldn't count on it coming out anytime soon... AT&T being AT&T and all. That bloatware doesn't install itself.
That being said, I travel around the midwest a fair bit and have found UCLE2 to work quite well.
I would stick with UCLA3. It has awesome battery life. There are plenty of awesome roms built around this too. I liked Stock Mod 2. With the faux kernel of course.
Might as well try a ROM, it was the radio change that made my Kies say "this device is not supported" . After I flashed the original ROM and kernel, it wasn't until I flashed the radios back, then it said" this is the latest firmware"

If you're already rooted and flashing kernels why not just flash a rom? I highly doubt the ics update gonna come by the end of the month but even if it does you'll probably end up trying a few different iterations of it from the different devs here... It's kinda like a new phone everytime you flash...lol Especially since cm9, aokp and aosp are kinda close to being ready as well...
knowing me Ill end up flashing a ROM lol, thanks for all the info everyone!

What does radios and apn do?

What exactly do these things do? I'm on embryo 5.3 and the call quality is bad. It sounds like I'm under water. Will flashing a new radio or change apn help with this?
Sent from my S2 Skyrocket
Radio/Modem is basically how you get your signal or connection. Different versions may affect people differently depending on location, say if UCLF6 was better in Florida than in Texas or UCLF5 is better than UCLF6 in call quality (just an example), you just have to test which one you like the best when it comes down to customizing them.
APN can be included with radio/modem installations but its basically Access Point Names and its what the radio/modem uses to get their connection. If you have an APN for AT&T you use that, if you have an APN for Straight Talk you use that, some times there will be one specifically for LTE users and so forth.
Think of your Radio/Modem as your Cable Modem and think of APN as your provider.
Thank you so much man. One more question. I'm on stock uclf6 right now and when I flash...let's say embryo and it uses the same uclf6 but I get that under water sound, I can flash let's say uclf5? Would it be possible that would fix the problem? And it wouldn't affect me getting calls and texts?

Signal Strength

Why does the Signal suck so bad on the SIII. I am rooted and running the cleanrom with the latest radio and it still sucks.
I ended up retiring the SIII and went back the Mot RAZR MAXX and wow what a difference.
It doesn't suck for everyone. My call quality is better on this phone compared to my incredible. Dbm's are plus or minus 5 compared to the incredible as well.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
Well I tested it side by side in several different places here in Florida and this a good strong signal area and the SIII just can't keep up with the Razr MAXX.
You think I got a dud for a SIII and there is probably nothing I can do about it other than get another phone. I can sell it and buy something else.
It's works great is most areas it's just when you get in the areas where it may down to one or two bars. Hell I had two bars and 3G and it won't even send a text. It will fail sending. I use the MAXX in the same area no issues at all.
I feel the SIII has a weak antenna in it.
For me it's not work using. I want a phone that will work in the areas I am in. I never had an issue until going to the SIII

It's a problem for some. I haven't had it ever switch off 4g. Pretty decent coverage all over Indiana. Moto is famous for their radios, its nice you were able to switch to another phone.
Yea I always keep a couple of extra of phones just for that purpose. I tried turning off the 4g and going 3G only still the SIII sucks in certain areas and the other phones have rock solid service.
I think I am going to ditch the SIII soon and replace it with something else.

Yes I just flashed I535VRBMB1 Radio the other day and it did not help at all...
Please provide links to which radio worked for you.
I am running clean Rom 5.6 right now. Just noticed there is a 6 out now...
So What Radio are you all running that gets good signal?
Just flashed JB Build 12 and if this does not help. This phone will be gone...
Well wiping and flashing JB and the latest radio leak did not really help. The SIII still had issues with signal with the RAZR MAXX did not.
The SIII is nice but not usable to me. Not when you can do a side by side comparison to other device and the SIII can't even keep signal when the other device has three bars.
I don't think the new S4 will be any better.
I might find me a HTC DNA I heard the radio is great in them.
I miss my thunderbolt and good old skyraider... Those were the good old days.

I had the same issue since moving back to an AOSP ROM (Liquid Smooth). One of the leaked radios, VRMBA2, seems to work the best for me with good pings () and DL speeds ranging from 12Mbps - 34Mbps depending on sig. strength.
I did not try the RPM... I will do that now.
