[Q] i need your expert opinion - General Questions and Answers

can you tell me what is the best phone good call quality features fast so on im looking into dumping tmobile ive had it with the g2x thank you

Would help to post which carrier you are interested in switching to, since some phones are carrier specific.
I've heard a lot of great things about the Galaxy Nexus from numerous users. ****, another forum I frequent changed the "Android Users" thread to "Galaxy Nexus Owners" thread as a joke since so many switched to it.
But I'd recommend checking it out at the VZW store near you.

Motorola Photon 4G on Sprint. Won't regret it.
MoPhoACTV Initiative

thank you im not sure im so fed up i just want a phone that works as a phone yes i do want cool and features i was looking at att and sprint

if youre looking for a phone with the best phone radio(signals, calls, messages, data) i would recoment a motorola phone (photon in my case cause im on sprint) if you want a phone full of features and incredible specs go for a galaxy s2 (display, processor, lightness, slimness) but kinda regular signal (not so bad but not the best) or if you want a phone full with dev and roms and mods go for a galaxy nexus(no the best spec phone but still great)...hope it helps
here are my ¢2 cents

[Q] New to Android, sgs or desire?

Hey guys,
Sorry if this is in the wrong thread, it is my first post. I am new to android and came from the iphone, the whole lockdown and apples marketing really annoyed me not to mention it cost and you had to have a mac to make apps. Im new to android and im eager to learn and develop some apps to contribute to the android community. I live in australia so I ofc have a limited number of options. My employer has the Desire and he loves it and thinks its great and my father recently bought the sgs which he also loves. After lots of research ive come to the conclusion that the sgs has better specs that arnt exactly neccessery for the bulk of things unless playing 3d games which isnt exactly the purpose of a phone however smart it is. The desire also seems to have a far better community, its built by htc and its build quality is great + it has flash. It cant play divx etc out of the box (desire) unlike the sgs but to be honest im not overly worried about 30seconds to install an app.. Sgs is with optus ($59, 2gb data $500 calls, unlimited texts). Deisre is with telstra ($58, 3gb data, 400 calls, texts arae 25c ea but i only send about 30 texts per month I mostly use msn). I also tether my phones a fair bit when at college etc and I want a decent music player.
Please help me with feedback it would be very appreciated and I look forward to contributing.
Also, if i do buy the sgs then it is a must by far that I remove the samsung bloat and flash it, the desire id also want to update to 2.2 asap.
- Dameize
bump
- getting the phone tomorrow so I need as much feedback asap
I got the desire because of the bigger community backing it seems to have. Oh, and it doesn't look like an iPhone.
Desire: Community, Sense, HTC
I'd search around on xda-developers, this is a very popular topic.
I went for the Galaxy S myself for the larger SAMOLED screen and the faster CPU (a little)/GPU (a lot). Both are good phones with their pros and cons though.
I sold my Iphone 3GS for a Galaxy S, never going back...brilliant device this SGS

I searched a lot but din get many threads on this topic. Can u plz give us some links. This poll goes to the desire but the response is too meagre.
so far so good. id recommend SGS, but make sure you do not get a hardlocked one. I bought mine off Craigslist(CL) for really cheap, but since then i regret buying it 3rd party. I ended up recieving a hardware locked phone. Now i understand why it was sold so cheaply. Due to buyers remorse, PLEASE make sure u get a hardware unlocked phone!!!!
EVO anyone?

[Q] should i trade for i727/r

hi am a nexus s user i got an offer from my friend to trade my nexus s i9023 for AT&T/Rogers i727/r dont knw weather it is LTE or HSPA
i want to ask i am getting it exchange for ~30$ if i pay so is it good to go for i727 as i cant afford to have latest and High end phone and its a good phone by its hardware specs compare to my NS
i would also like to know that if i ge i727r so the customs roms for i727 will work on the LTE version as i see most are for i727
other than that the phone is currently unlocked so whats are the chances it will get locked if i refalsh the roms or if this recieve JB offical and i want to flash..
please reply ASAP
First think, don't ask for quick replies, frankly it annoying, people here help of their own free will.
No your phone will not be re-locked upon flashing custom roms.
All Samsung i727 phones are LTE, the "r" just indicates the Canadian version, the phones are EXACTLY the same.
Roms support is very good and we have good devs, we have stable 4.1.2 stock and aosp based and 4.2.2 is in the works
Its a good phone, for $30 and a trade in nexus s I'd do it
You'll be happy with the rocket.

Its honestly the best android I've ever had.
Sent from my mom's basement.
thanks for your advice bro
i am looking forward to make this deal up
anything which i should take care of b4r purchasing like any specific prob or hardware bug
Nexus S for the GSII seems almost too good to be true.
I assume based on you having 800 posts you can figure out what to look for in a used phone. Definitely search it for signs of liquid damage. (usually corrosion of the charging port will appear even if the water strips are not activated) If you see that, just stay away.
As mentioned, no difference between the 727 and the 727r, the R stands for Rogers, the 727 was sold by ATT. The one good thing about the R is no carrier branding on the front, only a rogers stamp on the battery door. Otherwise all ROMs should work just fine on it (gets rid of carrier bloatware).
Good luck, sounds like you got yourself a good deal.

Looking to upgrade, Any input??

He all, who better to ask than all here,
Verizon has has finally gave me 4G in my area and I am due for a new phone soon, My question for you y'all is & I understand it's mostly opinion but what is the best Verizon phone for rooting, mods and wireless tether? I have been researching around and don't want to get a dog or one with little support. Also I don't want a monster phone or "phablet" Any suggestions?
Thanks,

There's no 'best' phone, only the most suitable one.
I don't know whether Verizon has Nexus 4 or not but it's really a good choice which covers all the major features, such as NFC, wireless charging and, of course, plenty of ROM's, including Ubuntu Touch.
Or, why don't you wait for Galaxy S4?

Yeah, poor choice of the word "best", sounds like ya knew where I was going. I will look into your suggestions, I was thinking to just stick with flagship phones like the DNA or something because they seem to have more options for modding ect.. I don't really like the DNA but my main concern in wireless tethering, I average about 7gb a month and have used up to 13 in a month so maybe the correct question would have been is there any phones that it would not be possible to to get the free tethering to work on?
I am extremely happy with my DNA

[Q] Which device to choose on Verizon?

I looked at some of the similar threads but they are old and devices change so rapidly so I am starting a new one.
I am looking for some thoughts, opinions, etc on a new device. I have to buy my device on Craigslist, eBay or somewhere because I have an old Verizon plan with unlimited data and can't upgrade without losing my plan and paying their upgrade fee.
I have been using a Toro Nexus on Verizon for about a year. I have been running CM10 and making updates as they are released. Recently my phone took a header out of my truck and now the screen is cracked. So, it is probably time to get something more up to date.
A couple things I am looking at evaluating are:
ROMS and development love available for devices. Which ones get the most love?
If I get something unlocked as in straight from Google like the Maguro would I be able to get a radio which works on Verizon?
Cost is a consideraton as well. For example I like the price of the S3 right now compared to the S4 on CL.
Any thoughts, opinions, facts, guidance, etc would be awesome!

the Galaxy nexus is a great phone it saddens me to see that you would like another phone. but im not you so lets get start with phone shopping shall we?
Google
I can see that you like all the rom and development for devices i happy for that!, most of the time you would want one of googles flagship phones that is plain ol stock android (nexus s, galaxy nexus, nexus 4 etc..) googles is so great to us since its stock android its much easyer to flash roms and put other goodies on our phones! i have heard the nexus 4 is one of the best phones around right now (not to mention the new white nexus 4 thats coming out soon with Android 4.3!) so if its on your provider i would recomend that from google!
Samsung
So from what you said you want a phone around the price of a S3, from that right there i would recomend a S3! Samsung does a great job with their phones its not the same stock android like the galaxy nexus they have spiced android up to what they call touchwiz which is a very smooth version for their launchers. a S2 might sound old but even that would be a great phone (i dont know about the specs galaxy neuxs might be a little newer so S3 might be better to get). rooting should be very simple all i had to do for my S2 was to flash a pda file from odin so its again easy to be able to join in on all the development. i think i have heard that the S3 (and maby S2) is getting alot of Goodies from the S4.
LG
i have only had some LG phones and in the past they werent so good but their newest flagship the Optimus G Pro is sposed to be aso good as the HTC one and S4 i dont think LG has their own type of launcher such as samsungs touchwiz, htcs Sense, or motorolas motor blur. so that probably means stock android and pretty easy to root and flash stuff.
HTC
the HTC dream was the first android phone, all of their phones are amazing i have had many of their devices, sense is a very smooth, sense 4.0 and up is sposed to be great. the One and its new blinkfeed feature i have heard can get old within a month or two so im not sure. about rooting with htc phones can be a pain. its different between each phone my droid incredible i had to unlock the bootloader turn s-on off downgrade just to be able to get root and cwm and its all a big pain, htc just dosent want us to screw with it maby. for my htc inspire 4g i had to just only unlock the bootloader and could flash a root from there but still was a pain, so if you can deal with some of the fears of easily bricking your phone you can try these phones!
there are alot of (im just going to call them third party but they arent really) third party phones such as huawei, ZTE, kyocera that some are deff better phones from these people that are better than the galaxy nexus just ask if you would like me to explain them!

Thank you for all the info. Much appreciated. The Galaxy Nexus (Toro) is a wonderful phone. I believe it is the longest running in my pocket. It broke my heart when it took a swan dive out of my truck Sunday. I would absolutely go with another of these. The question on that topic is could a guy get the Maguro to work on Verizon's CDMA network? I don't know that much about the hardware but I'd LOVE to try Ubuntu Touch.
There is a local guy who has an S3 advertised on CL for $175. I'd have to evaluate that guy first though. Would I be as happy with the development on the S3 as I have been on the Toro?

i googled a way for it to work on verizon, dosent look like there is any way unless its unlocked. as for the s3 im sure you will be happy with all the development as much as the toro i have seen the s4 at some networks for $149 with a 2yr.

[Q] What Phone to get (T-Mobile)

I am at a standstill for getting a new phone on TMobile service. May sound stupid but I am.
here are my ideas Nexus 5, HTC ONE M8, LG G3
I hate and tired of Samsung! although I have had a few lol
I have owned the HTC EVO 4G, Desire, Samsung Gs2,3,4, Motorola Atrix 4G...
Here are my gripes lol
I am on the stage a lot, and in live music scene and I have never had a phone that records live music so awesome like the old Atrix. Wish I could get a new phone that would do the same or some app that would help. ok there's that gripe No Samsung or HTC has ever done this without it being a bunch of static. Atrix has some kind of compressor or something when recording.
I am sure I will have to go into the new phone world without having the live recording down
TMOBILE: Nexus 5, HTC ONE M8, LG G3
Can anyone sway me on which of these 3 phones to choose from? I just need more confirmation lol
I seriously need help haahaa... with that said I still want to be able to root/rom all that good stuff.
Wouldn't it be best to have removable battery and sd card be best?
I would like to be able to take decent pictures, and videos. You don't have to be able to see a mite on a ticks ass, but helps.
I want to have a good experience, with lots of support so I do not get bored with the phone, and so on. (I know LG G3 hasn't come out yet to really have much support)
I have always been a fan of HTC for some reason, but always ended up with Samsung cause HTC been lacking for a while. I have read lots of good reviews on the m8 and the new g3 coming out. Many mixed reviews for Nexus 5.
But that is why I came here!
The place I know I will not get a regular common answer/review. Thank you all in advance for your help swaying me
or any other phone
Also any other phone can be placed into the equation...or should I say no to that since i can't make up my mind already lol
Hello,
There are 3 threads devoted to discussions about devices, please repost your question in one of these three threads: The what should I buy thread or the The Device Suggestion Thread or the The Device Comparison Thread.
